Things were quiet. Too quiet on such a beautiful morning as this. Something had to be up. "Ono?" Kion called out to the bird. "You don't see anything do you? It's quiet and that usually means trouble..." Unless the cub just got lucky and things actually were okay that'd be a nice change of pace. (from @captenikion)
"Affirmative, Kion!" something tells Ono that the two of them shared the same thought. While most animals could relax during quiet moments the same could not be said for the Guard. If they weren't out fighting Outlanders then they're preparing to fight Outlanders, like it or not it was routine by this point.
With a salute from his wing he's off and up in the air, giving him an egret eye's view of the land he call home. A home they all had a duty to defend!
He's scanning the horizon for any sign of Janja, Kiburi, Reirei or even Mzingo & his parliament. Odd. It really was quiet.
"Hmm... I'm not seeing anything of note— wait a tick." he focuses his sight on a flicker of flame. Oh no! His instinct is to return his gaze skyward for vultures dropping fire sticks. Nothing. The sky was devoid of clouds for them to hide in.
While he was happy there wasn't an Outlander attack, it still meant there was something to done about this burgeoning flame.
"Hapana!" Ono swoops down to Kion's level, "We've got a problem at Acacia Grove! I think the dry season heat has gotten to the grass because it's on fire! It's pretty small but if we don't get there and put it out now it could envelope the whole grove, the giraffes would lose their food source!" then he whimpers as a realisation hit, "Oh, but... the rest of the Guard isn't here. What should we do, Kion?"
#; common knowledge really (ono)#captenikion#; asks#feels good to write Ono again! Love this guy so much

“ Stuff just hasn’t been going all that well lately. “
Stuff just hasn’t been going all that well lately? That’s a bit strange to hear, especially now that there was peace among the Pridelands. Was something wrong with her friend, personally?
“Kion, if something is bothering you…. you can always count on me to be there for you. But it would be a lot easier to help you, if I knew what the problem was.“

Nuka puffed at a stray hair that crossed his eyes. “Whatever, termite.” he scoffed. “Can’t a lion just walk around here?”

"Kiara? Are you holding up okay? All the herds seem to be on edge with Scar returning and the Dry Season and I just wanted to see how you were doing..."
“Oh… you know. No-one ever said being royalty was easy.”
Kion might well ask; the princess certainly looked… careworn, more than anything else. Between everything, there were more than enough royal duties to go around… and, while Mom and Dad seemed to hold up okay under that kind of pressure, Kiara found it demanding.
Some days, she couldn’t help but wish she could go back to being that young cub of so long ago, who hadn’t wanted to be queen. After days of moving back and forth across the Pride Lands, trying to help all different kinds of animals to prepare to deal with Scar’s threats, it was easy to long for those carefree days.
But the Pride Landers needed her. She saw it in many of her interactions; animals were touched that their princess was making the time to help them as individuals, not just leaving them to fend for themselves. Not everyone showed it, of course; but those who did?
They were enough to make the effort worthwhile.
“It’s tiring, sure. Every animal seems to need a piece of my time personally, and they all have the same questions about Scar, and what he’s up to, and how to respond to the threat he poses…”
She didn’t resent it, not at all. But it kept her on her feet for most of the day… by this point, Kiara even dreamed about answering those questions, she’d done it so many times.
She shook her head, though. Managed a smile.
“But I’m doing alright. Between us, I’ve probably still got the easier job.”

"Daaaaaad, Kiara's bugging me again. Can't you make her stop?"
Approaching his cubs, Simba let out a soft sigh as he shook his head but yet, a tiny smile showed up on his muzzle.
“That’s enough, you two. Kiara? What did I tell you about bugging your brother?”

“Kion?”
Makuu looked up when he saw the cub approaching his watering hole. Usually, that meant that a short but fierce battle was to follow, ending with the crocodiles being roared into oblivion, but things were different now. They weren’t exactly friends, but they had no reason to oppose each other any more. This was...awkward.
“What are you doing here?

@captenikion I continued from x
Zazu scanned the horizon for anything Kion could use to save himself. The cape buffalo were spread out in a wide line, so if he ran to the side he wouldn’t make it in time. Already he was flashing back to the fateful stampede that had taken Simba and Mufasa from him. He had failed them then, but he would not fail them now.
“There!” Zazu called, swooping down beside Kion to catch his attention. He pointed his body towards a small rise in the ground with a tree on top of it.
“They won’t go up a hill! Quickly!” he ordered, and flew back up into the air to keep watch.
“Oh no...” he gasped, his eyes focusing in on two brown shapes out in the grasslands. The aardvarks were caught directly in the path of the stampede, but he had to make sure Kion was safe first.

"What else matters? You’re alive."
“Urgh, thank you all.” Malkia grunted, pushing herself to her feet with the help of Beshte and Bunga.
“I suppose I just…lost my footing somewhere.” She muttered with embarrassment, glancing up at the slope of Pride Rock she had just gracelessly slipped down. She would brush it off and say she was fine, but it made her think more about her aging body.

@captenikion | continued from (x)
“Alright!”
It didn’t occur to the youngster to do anything but take her brother at his word. Sure, he was tiny, and she didn't really know her own strength when pit against someone so much smaller than her; but if he said he was alright, then he was alright. Right?
She was dropping into her own crouch as Kion prepared to make his own move - though it more resembled a play posture than anything serious. Kiara fancied herself good at sparring, it was true; but she rarely took it seriously.
Which was probably a good thing, when her opponent was also her baby brother.
Her tail wiggled in the air behind her.
“Go for it!”

“You must be a fool to think I will simply give up and leave,” the spirit snapped, flames sparking around him. “In case you don’t realise, you may be a waste of time, but I have infinite amounts of it. You, however, are limited in that regard. One misstep can lead to a rather fatal disadvantage.”

Nuka’s ears flattened when he heard Kion’s voice, but he wouldn’t allow it to stop him from what he was doing. “Do we always have to meet like this, Kion?” he yelled up at him.

“ Please, I need you. “
“Yes, Kion?” a deep, majestic voice answered as the Great King’s visage materialized in the sky above the Pridelands. Despite his earlier advice to his grandson, Mufasa couldn’t deny that the destruction of Muzimu Grove was a devastating loss. Defeating Scar would cost the kingdom dearly, but unfortunately, there was little he could do but encourage Kion not to lose hope.

"Rafiki? I was wondering if I could ask you something." Kion called out as he sat at the bottom of her baobab tree. "When did you first learn that you could talk to the Lions of the Past? Makini mentioned that you could do it too when we first met."
Rafiki clambered down from her tree and landed in the grass beside Kion. “Makini told you, eh?” she chuckled. “I’ve known for years. Since I was a young mandrill, traveling distant lands. My teacher taught me how to listen for the voices of the Great Kings of the Past and other spirits before I left my first home. Before I came to the Pridelands.”
