no bc not to analyze this but the way that the ball (jason todd) is always so close to achieving it’s goals and escaping the circles (succeeding in his mission to better the conditions of crime alley in the best and most ethical way he knows possible) only to be struck down and held back (by his desire to belong to a family and his need to find familial affection after being denied it time and time again after losing both willis and catherine—the only two adults (and people by a margin) to ever show him unconditional love and affection, because they simply loved him as their child and expected nothing else from him but to simply live—which of course led to him compromising his own identity and morals in order to fit the into the shadow left by a 15 y/o jason that has become too small for him to occupy) only to eventually become consumed by the pressure of it all (the expectations and lack of care demonstrated by the batfamily, leaving jason as someone who is (canonically) suicidal with little regard for his own life as long as it means keeping the status quo and being allowed to keep his place in the family)

Forgive me if I'm a bit nervous about Gorgug this season. It's just that the last Zac Oyama pc was Colin Provolone, who was arguably one of his greatest D20 performances, if not the greatest.

Zac always does great with every pc he plays, but Colin was something else. He came out swinging with actions and words that were teeming with unspoken emotional baggage. The way Colin's presence affected the other pcs; there was this level of depth that I don't think I've seen in any of his other characters. It was understated and quiet in that signature "just a guy" way that he tends to be, while still captivating everyone instantly with just how raw it was.

Not to say we haven't seen emotional depth in Gorgug. It's just that, compared to the other Bad Kids, Gorgug's journey and progression as a character has been very... impersonal? Like, yes, he found his birth parents, and he found friends who appreciate him, and he faced his insecurities about his intelligence, and he navigated relationship troubles, and his trial through the claustrophobic bug-tunnels was a horrifically-uncanny parallel to how he's spent his entire life trying to make himself as small as possible.

But how much of that has actually changed him from the Gorgug we started with? I would agree that he's definitely happier with his life, given all the loving and supportive people that have been added to it when it used to be just him and his parents. And he's certainly grown into himself and become more self-assured in his abilities, even if he's still, and always will be, our anxious little guy. And there's nothing wrong with that. I've always liked how Gorgug was a representation of all the little things. The subtle acts and kindnesses that don't seem like much to most, but to some are everything.

We don't need another Bad Kid living in fear that their mouth could be shit-in at any moment. We've already got one-too-many.

All that being said, I just feel like Gorgug's personal story beats are much easier to sweep under the rug than everyone else's. He has the same soft and understated quality that Colin held, but they lack that extra oomph that pushed Colin over the edge from being just another guy in a series of dudes, to a character that the vast majority of us could not get out of our heads. He took someone who was anxious and softspoken, who ultimately never wanted to be violent— someone who is remarkably similar to Gorgug in many ways— and maintained that demeanor and core in Colin's character while still hitting us in the feels with character development at max velocity at every turn.

I think Zac gets better and better at this with every season that goes by. With each new character, there is always something that leaves me stunned in awe. And it's been, what, three? Four years since we last saw Gorgug?

I'm just,,, I'm cautiously optimistic but also going into a bit of a worry about what violence this man may inflict upon us

fencer things i hc the team as doing:

seiji is one of those people who do the little high jumps before the start of a bout and who are bouncing back and forth during it

aiden and eugene flick on their own foot to check whether all the electrical is working, meanwhile harvard/seiji hit the ground outside the strip

nicholas doesn't scream during high tension points but he does gesture/pump his fist/ect.

eugene and aiden instead do scream (to harvard's dismay). seiji only screams at the end of an important bout like a final.

harvard for sure gives firm handshakes at the end of a match and does the full greeting before (a little sloppy bc no one does it perfectly) (except for seiji who does it perfectly)

eugene hugs/high fives other athletes he knows at the end of a bout, no matter who wins or who looses

eugene is also a wrist/foot hitter (canon amazing accuracy) and is strong enough to knock a blade to the side easily. he also rarely bounces his blade and has a very firm stance

nicholas accidentally hits the ground an embarassing amount of times (and the score table, and the score machine, and gets tangled in people's cables/gloves)

aiden doesn't try to get into close combat situations but when he does he is very good at drawing his blade out and hitting once, cleanly

nicholas on the other hand does riposte after riposte and it WORKS. he understands very well the "it's not over until the referee says something" rule

aiden loves a bitch ass everyone-will-hate-you move like a third disengagement and flick to the back. or a flick to the wrist. or a flèche right at the beginning of a bout

coach is the kind to smile and go shake the hands of both the rival coach and fencer, only to turn around and rip the team's performance to pieces

but also, she's the kind to grab the waterbottle of whoever is fencing during the one minute pause and have them drink while she explains tactic changes (without an epée in hand, just directly with her arm)

eugene is the type to hit everyone in the foot/shin when he's walking by to get their attention

similarly aiden and harvard are poking each other when either are fencing non-serious bouts, nicholas tried to do so once with seiji and was immediately destroyed by a glare with the power of a thousand suns (all during practice ofc)

aiden is a feinter extraordinaire. harvard is one of the few who never follows these feints/lounges past them (other than seiji who is just a great fencer)

aiden has been yellow carded for having his hair poke out from his mask before, meanwhile harvard is likely to be yellow carded for the one minute inaction rule. nicholas is most likely to get yellow carded for close combat. eugene and seiji understand the damn rules and don't get carded often

They are so different. They are so different, and it's killing me. Because it makes so much damn sense.

They were reset, over, and over, and over again. Until eventually, something inside of them just…broke. Shattered, even.

And all they could think of was revenge. All they could feel was hatred.

This is so reminiscent of our Lunar, when they killed Eclipse, it pains me/pos!

They lost their life, their memories, over and over again.

All they ever wanted was acknowledgment and love from their brother, and they were punished for it. Treated like something to throw away. Something not worth keeping around. A wooden puppet who could be broken apart again, and again, and again. Because you can always just replace the broken pieces, can't you? If something is wrong with it, you can always try anew.

And one day, suddenly, they had the star. An object powerful enough to rewrite the fabric of reality.

And in this moment, everything just…consumed them.

Their fear, their desperation, their pain. First, it turned into hope. And then, that hope turned into hatred. Into pure and utter hatred.

And it drowned them.

And as the ocean of malice consumed them, they broke him, like he broke them.

But it wasn't fun. It didn't satisfy them. It simply wasn't enough.

Because it would never fix them. It would never erase what happened to them.

They were still drowning. They were still broken.

Instead of freeing them, his death tore a hole into them. A endless void, never to be filled. A black, all consuming hole.

And they tried to. They really did.

They killed, again and again and again, until all that was left was a wasteland.

And for a while, it gave them entertainment. It didn't fill the void, not quite.

But it fed the black hole, and gave them something they always wanted.

Control. Attention. They were worshipped like a god, instead of being treated like dirt.

But by doing so, they tangled themself more into their own puppet strings, left behind by Eclipse.

They were becoming him.

And the worst part? They knew. Yet they couldn't bring themself to care, embracing it instead, determined to become better at being Eclipse than Eclipse himself.

This is the Lunara Sun meets.

And though we don't know what exactly got them to destroy earth, I'm guessing, that Sun made them realize how bored they had gotten.

He had given them more entertainment than they experienced in ages.

And so, once they realized, earth couldn't fill the void anymore, couldn't feed the hole, couldn't keep them from drowning, they destroyed it. Getting rid of the planet like a broken toy, much like Eclipse would.

Which brings us to the person they are now. They have destroyed everything in an effort to fill the void and feed the hole. And instead, they created one. A destructive one.

One, that is utterly fascinating to them, filling them with morbid curiosity.

Now, that everything is gone, they mellowed out. There is nothing there for them anymore.

Everything, that consumed them, has…not dissappeared, per say, but it's quiet.

Not a black hole, not a storm, but still waters, and quiet nights.

Emptiness.

Emptiness to embrace, to sink into.

They aren't interested in destruction anymore, not really.

It never really did much to satisfy them. It never did anything to fix them. It was never enough in the first place.

HEAD IN HANDS DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW INCREDIBLY INSANE THEY MAKE ME-

But another thing is Lunara's wording!

They said: "how does the other me handle that?"

IT SOUNDS SO CASUAL, AND I DIDNT PICK IT UP AT FIRST, BUT-

The wording is so interesting??

It makes it sound like they don't expect them to handle it at all- It sounds like they are expecting grief, like they are expecting their other self to be helpless without him-

It could also be interpreted as "How can they handle it? How can't I?"

BECAUSE A PUPPET ISN'T MEANT TO BE WITHOUT ITS PUPPETEER-

IT SEEMS THAT EVEN THOUGH THEY DESPISED THEM, THEY STILL LONG FOR HIM-

THERE'S STILL THAT PART INSIDE OF THEM THAT SCREAMS FOR A HOME WHICH NEVER EXISTED-

Last but not least, I wanted to call out the worldbuilding because- It's so interesting??

For one, there are literal chess boards underneath them-

Something, something, the pawn turns into a king-

And the fact, that Lunara made himself a throne, which is very reminiscent of his church! It always keeps him higher up, in a higher position, both figuratively and literally!

Theres also just the entire black hole in front of it???

It's so fascinating, and Lunara seems entirely mesmerized by it!

A thing of total destruction, of endless darkness…it fills them with morbid curiosity, not that different from what one would expect of Moon, and Eclipse.

The way they stand in front of the beast unafraid, their body soaked in shadows, eyes glowing…

Everything about it…I love it to death, actually-

Yesyesyes the contrast between who they were when they first met Sun, fresh into their mayhem and wracked with messy, unpacked feelings about Eclipse, and who they were when they met Earth, being the last person left and forced to mellow out as a result.... it's so FASCINATING. Exactly like u said, it's so different but it makes SENSE !!!

AND HOW U DESCRIBED THEIR WHOLE LEAD-UP TO HOW THEY BECAME THE PERSON SUN MET YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!!! They are so painfully their brother's creation and it makes me UNWELL.

AND YEAH YEAH STILL WATERS IS A PERFECT WAY TO PUT IT!!! Which honestly goes hand-in-hand with your point about how they worded their question about our Lunar!!! Yeah I thought the way they worded it was interesting too tbh?! I interpreted it as them asking "so this was worth it, right?" but YEA your view about it being more of a "how are you happy and i'm not?" is so fun.......

BUT THE THRONE AND THE BLACK HOLE YEAH YEAH OMS. Honestly the throne specifically reminds me a lot of your ramble about the parallels between Lord Eclipse and Lunara... A lot of their attitudes and mannerisms reminded me of Lord Eclipse, especially in the way they both achieved theor goals tenfold and after years n years, just sort of... spent their time rotting I guess, yk?

and stars yeah I didn't even really think about the fact they got so close to the storm?!?!!!??? They just walked right up to it like it doesn't destroy everything it touches, like they didn't feed the astrals to it, like it's just another empty thing in their world..... ugh what is WRONG with them!!!! <3<3<3
