I woke up and it felt like i was having a heart attack my whole chest was tight and i was in some pain. Days went by however and i got better and better. Now my life is saved. I’m always going to be great to my family and friends who lived it with me.
To truly understand stomach surgery you have to appreciate what was done to me. Not having sugar because it causes dumping syndrome in me. Dumping makes you feel dizzy, weak, faint, sweating, heart racing, and down low energy. So i avoid that at all costs. At first i was dehydrated and before i knew that my blood pressure had become normal i was getting dizzy because my blood pressure medications were making me dizzy because my blood pressure was crazy low. So it was an adventure but absolutely well worth it. I’m still struggling to make it to 200lbs but I’m going to continue the battle until i get there. For now I’m like Thanos after he snapped his fingers battle worn but smiling over a grateful universe and inner self because i did what had to be but and succeeded.

I'm gonna dump some info on this bc theres some frankly alarming comments in the notes. Both spreading misinformation or people talking about taking dangerous amounts or combinations of medications. Over the counter medications are NOT benign. They carry their own risks. Heres a medical breakdown (and yes I'm an actual medical doctor!)
Tylenol - aka acetaminophen or paracetamol. By and large the safest OTC pain relief (lowest immediate and long term side effect/risk profile). Can also be used for fevers alongside pain relief. Antidote available in overdose. Can be combined with NSAIDS for additional pain relief. Risk of liver damage primarily in overdose, but small risk as well with long term use.
Ibuprofen (NSAID) - Good for inflammatory conditions, or occasional pain relief if preferred. Can be used for fevers alongside pain relief. Ensure adequate hydration if using to limit risk of acute kidney damage. Should not be taken regularly without medical advice. Taken regularly can cause significant stomach irritation and ulceration, as well as kidney damage (both chronic and acute, through different mechanisms), and high blood pressure. Ensure adequate hydration if using to limit risk of acute kidney damage. Should not be combined with other NSAIDS. No specific antidote in overdose.
Aleve (NSAID) - aka naproxen. Very similar to Ibuprofen in that it's good for inflammatory conditions, and in it's risk/side effect profile. No specific antidote in overdose. Should not be combined with other NSAIDs.
Aspirin (NSAID) - While an NSAID has some other uses due to it's anti platelet action (clopidogrel is similar, but not OTC). Can be used long term at low dose (75mg) for primary or secondary prevention of heart disease. Similar to other NSAIDs though, should not be taken regularly unless under medical advice. Additionally, should NOT be given to children under 12 as risk of Reye's syndrome (can cause permanent brain or liver injury, or death). Should not be combined with other NSAIDs.
Anyways, apologies for info dumping on what was clearly meant to be a fun post, but there was some very dangerous medical misinformation being put on here. Remember, just because something is over the counter, or 'all natural' (i'm looking at you herbal remedies) does NOT mean its benign or doesn't come without risks. More importantly, if you are taking something long term you need to talk to a medical professional about it.

How to maintain a strong Lymphatic System
Ignoring the health of your lymphatic system means your immunity will suffer, and you’re more likely to deal with common illnesses and long-term health problems.
1. Reduce Inflammation and Improve Circulation
Eating a healthy diet, exercising, not smoking, getting enough sleep, and reducing stress are all critical for lowering oxidative stress and supporting the body’s natural detoxification processes. The circulatory system and lymphatic system rely on one another. While blood circulates around the body via vessels, some fluid naturally leaks out and makes its way into tissue. This is a normal process that brings nutrients, water, and proteins to cells. The fluid also gathers cells’ waste, like bacteria or even dead or damaged cells like cancer cells.
Tissues around the body can become inflamed and painful when circulation slows and inflammation builds. A healthy lymphatic system nourishes muscle, joint and other tissue because lymph vessels have tiny openings that let gases, water and nutrients pass through to surrounding cells (interstitial fluid). The fluid drains back into the lymph vessels, then goes to the lymph glands to be filtered and finally to a larger lymphatic vessel located at the base of the neck called the thoracic duct.
The thoracic duct dumps cleaned lymph fluid back into the blood, and on and on the cycle goes — which is why circulation is important for keeping the system running smoothly, otherwise tissue can become swollen with excess waste. To keep circulation pumping and the lymphatic system functioning optimally, it’s important to load up on vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, and antioxidants.
2. Follow an Anti-Inflammatory Diet
The more nutrient-dense your diet, and the less chemicals enter your body, the better your lymphatic system can work. Foods that put stress on the digestive, circulatory and immune systems include common allergens (like dairy, gluten, soy, shellfish or nightshades), low-quality animal products, refined vegetable oils and processed foods that contain chemicals. Anti-inflammatory foods supply much-needed nutrients and antioxidants while also lowering free radical damage (aka oxidation stress) that ages the body and lowers immunity. Some of the key high-antioxidant foods to focus on include:
— green leafy vegetables
— cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, etc.)
— berries
— omega-3 foods like salmon and wild seafood
— nuts and seeds (chia, flax, hemp, pumpkin, etc.)
— unrefined oils like extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil
— herbs and spices (ginger, turmeric, garlic, for example)
3. Exercise
The lymphatic system works best when you move your body, which helps keep fluids circulating and nutrients reaching your cells. There’s a reason why being stagnant causes you to feel more achy, stiff and prone to becoming sick. Any type of regular exercise and movement (such as simply walking more) is good for keeping lymph fluid flowing, but some exercise seems to be particularly beneficial, including yoga (which twists the body and helps fluid drain), high-intensity interval training (which is great for improving circulation) or “rebounding.“
Rebounding is growing in popularity and involves jumping a small trampoline that you can keep inside your house. It only takes up a few feet, and just five to 10 minutes of jumping daily can really get your heart rate up and help keep your lymphatic system running smoothly.
4. Massage Therapy and Foam Rolling
Foam rolling and massage therapy are both usual for preventing swelling, pain and fluid buildup with tissue. Foam rolling, also called self-myofascial release, is a type of self-massage that many people do before or after exercising. Its purpose is to help tissue repair more easily and break up muscle and tissue adhesions that can cause tightness and injuries. Foam rolling also increases blood flow to your muscles and is used to help with quicker recovery and better performance.
“Lymphatic drainage massage” is a type of specialized massage therapy that helps cells release toxins and breaks up lymph congestion. Studies have found it’s beneficial for lowering pain intensity, pain pressure and pain threshold. Massages can activate the lymphatic system and help flush excess fluid from within tissues. Some massage therapists are specially trained in manual lymphatic drainage, but any type of deep tissue massage is also beneficial. You can even massage yourself to help reduce pain in swollen lymph nodes, muscles or joints.
5. Infrared Sauna Treatment
Never heard of infrared saunas? This simple treatment is one of the best ways to naturally detox the body and support an overall healthy immune system. Infrared sauna therapy works by increasing sweat production so more toxins are removed from tissue. It can also improve blood flood and help with tissue healing, which is critical for lymphatic health. Dumping Syndrome Post Gastric Bypass Surgery in India
Dumping syndrome is a common side effect after gastric bypass surgery (Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery or Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery) About 85% of gastric bypass patient will experience dumping syndrome at some point after surgery. The symptom can range from mild to severe.
Post mini gastric bypass surgery, dumping usually occurs due to poor food choices. It is related to the ingestion of refined sugars(including high fructose corn syrup) or high glycemic carbohydrates. It can also occur with dairy products, some fats, and fried foods. These foods rapidly empty from the gastric pouch into the small intestine which triggers a cascade of physiologic events.
According to Dr. Amit Garg, Bariatric & Metabolic Surgeon, the effect of dumping is twofold. It is both good and bad. The benefit is that dumping occurs after eating these foods then patient is less likely to eat the food again. It is a built in mechanism that says, "I shouldn’t have eaten it the first time, and I definitely won’t eat again.” This is called negative reinforcement. The fact is these foods will interfere with long term weight loss and should not be consumed anyway.
The bad news is that dumping makes the patient feel awful; it can be confused with other problem; it is scary and sometimes difficult to manage.
There are two types of dumping:
1. Early dumping which occur 30–60 minute after eating and can last up to 60 minutes. Symptom includes sweating, flushing, lightheadedness, tachycardia, palpitation, desire to lie down, upper abdominal fullness, nausea, diarrhea, cramping, and active audible bowels sound. The cause appears to be early and rapid transit, of high osmole food into the proximal jejunum, resulting in drawing in of water and dilatation.
Early dumping also occurs as a result of rapid emptying of sugars or carbohydrates from the gastric pouch into the small intestine which cause the release of hormones (gut peptides) that effect blood pressure, heart rate, skin flushing, and intestinal transit, leading to a light- headed, rapid heart rate and flushing sensation often accompanied by diarrhea.
2. Late dumping which occur 1–3 hours after eating. Symptom are related to reactive hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) which include sweating, shakiness, loss of concentration, hunger, and fainting or passing out. Late dumping symptoms are related to increase insulin after oral glucose (sugar) with subsequent hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
The diagnosis of dumping syndrome post mini gastric bypass surgery is primarily made by obtaining a history of presence of classic symptoms related to food intake. Management of early dumping can be relatively straightforward. First, the symptom should be discussed with the bariatric surgeon. Dietary compliance with avoidance of refined sugars, high glycemic carbohydrates, or other foods that may be associated with the syndrome would be the primary treatment.
Management of late dumping that persists in persist in spite of the above dietary measures may be treated with a small amount of sugar (such as one-half glass of orange juice) about 1 hour after meal, which may prevent the attack. Medications may be helpful if still symptomatic despite dietary changes. In summary, although bothersome and sometimes worrisome, dumping syndrome is not a life-threatening problem in majority. Post weight loss surgery, repetitive patient education about what to eat and what not to eat can manage early and late dumping syndrome. Also, patient need to learn about and real basic nutrition labels. The benefit is that it teaches patient quickly that certain foods and additives cannot be tolerated. Post weight loss surgery, patient compliance and commitment to long- term follow-up are mandatory.

Someone probably has already said so but: arrows pierce through clothing and armour. That’s means dirt/blood/grime covered fabric is now inside your body. INFECTION INFECTION. Two ways to reduce the risk are:
1. Break the arrow shaft, push the arrowhead until it sticks out the other side pull it out, irrigate, disinfect and stitch the wound.
2. If you can’t push the arrow through you widen the entry wound enough to wiggle the arrowhead free (as they said, don’t yank it out you animals, you’ll tear muscle) and then root around the wound until you’ve cleared all the debris, irrigate, disinfect, stitch.
If your character is fighting a monster or animal and gets bitten:
Mouths are dirty dirty DIRTY places there’s a high risk of infection especially if the punctures are deep. We don’t usually stitch up clean bites bc that way there’s less risk of bacteria getting trapped inside and creating an abscess (or lord forbid, sepsis). However we will put stictches in if there’s tearing to hold the flaps of tissue together.
Internal bleeding is a thing. If someone catches you on the torso with a war hammer, if a horse kicks you, if you get yeeted into a wall by something chances are something inside has gotten damaged. And that stuff is fatal if left untreated.
You can walk on a broken toe, just tape it to the next one/two toes and go about your day. You can’t walk on a broken foot.
The reason fractures are reduced ASAP is because if the bone fragment shifts it can compress the blood supply to that part of the body cause ischemia and then that part dies and you have to amputate. Someone walking around on a broken leg is heroic and shit, but just because the bone is not poking out of the skin doesn’t mean they’ll still have a leg by the end of the chapter.
TOURNIQUETS: they only work for limbs and only if applying pressure to the wound doesn’t work. You tie it above the joint. If you’re not using something that can be tightened by a mechanism (like a belt or a strap) ADD A WINDLASS FOR FUCKS SAKE. It’ll help tighten the tourniquet further and above that, it’ll be easier to unravel once you need to, tight knots are a bad idea. Two hours is the maximum you can keep it on and even then you risk nerve and muscle damage (and limb ischemia). Repeat after me: last resource.
Compartment syndrome: this is not an injury, but it’s s very dangerous complication. The extremity muscles are covered by a sheath, called fascia which is fibrous and not very elastic. If the muscles inside the fascia swell (due to a broken bone or a crush injury) the fascia will not expand to accommodate the new size and it’ll start crushing the structures inside it. That means the nerves can get permanently damaged, the blood flow to the limb can be compromised to the point of ischemia and you can lose that limb. It is very painful and the treatment is to take a scalpel and cut vertical lines into the limb, that breaks the fascia and gives the muscles room to expand, its even more painful.
Burns: with extensive burns there can be severe loss of fluid and risk of hypovolemic shock. Quick classification:
First degree: red skin, painful to the touch heals quickly and doesn’t scar.
Second degree: this one blisters and has secretions, is painful and might or might not scar depending on the depth of it.
Third degree: this one is the last one that only burns skin, they look blanched, waxy and leathery and they don’t hurt because the nerve endings get fried.
Fourth degree: this one goes deep into the muscle or even to the bones, it looks blackened and again doesn’t hurt bc there’s no nerves left.
(Btw, don’t dump water on a person who’s on fire, you’ll steam them)
Helpful things for action writers to remember
Sticking a landing will royally fuck up your joints and possibly shatter your ankles, depending on how high you’re jumping/falling from. There’s a very good reason free-runners dive and roll.
Hand-to-hand fights usually only last a matter of seconds, sometimes a few minutes. It’s exhausting work and unless you have a lot of training and history with hand-to-hand combat, you’re going to tire out really fast.
Arrows are very effective and you can’t just yank them out without doing a lot of damage. Most of the time the head of the arrow will break off inside the body if you try pulling it out, and arrows are built to pierce deep. An arrow wound demands medical attention.
Throwing your opponent across the room is really not all that smart. You’re giving them the chance to get up and run away. Unless you’re trying to put distance between you so you can shoot them or something, don’t throw them.
Everyone has something called a “flinch response” when they fight. This is pretty much the brain’s way of telling you “get the fuck out of here or we’re gonna die.” Experienced fighters have trained to suppress this. Think about how long your character has been fighting. A character in a fist fight for the first time is going to take a few hits before their survival instinct kicks in and they start hitting back. A character in a fist fight for the eighth time that week is going to respond a little differently.
ADRENALINE WORKS AGAINST YOU WHEN YOU FIGHT. THIS IS IMPORTANT. A lot of times people think that adrenaline will kick in and give you some badass fighting skills, but it’s actually the opposite. Adrenaline is what tires you out in a battle and it also affects the fighter’s efficacy - meaning it makes them shaky and inaccurate, and overall they lose about 60% of their fighting skill because their brain is focusing on not dying. Adrenaline keeps you alive, it doesn’t give you the skill to pull off a perfect roundhouse kick to the opponent’s face.
Swords WILL bend or break if you hit something hard enough. They also dull easily and take a lot of maintenance. In reality, someone who fights with a sword would have to have to repair or replace it constantly.
Fights get messy. There’s blood and sweat everywhere, and that will make it hard to hold your weapon or get a good grip on someone.
A serious battle also smells horrible. There’s lots of sweat, but also the smell of urine and feces. After someone dies, their bowels and bladder empty. There might also be some questionable things on the ground which can be very psychologically traumatizing. Remember to think about all of the character’s senses when they’re in a fight. Everything WILL affect them in some way.
If your sword is sharpened down to a fine edge, the rest of the blade can’t go through the cut you make. You’ll just end up putting a tiny, shallow scratch in the surface of whatever you strike, and you could probably break your sword.
ARCHERS ARE STRONG TOO. Have you ever drawn a bow? It takes a lot of strength, especially when you’re shooting a bow with a higher draw weight. Draw weight basically means “the amount of force you have to use to pull this sucker back enough to fire it.” To give you an idea of how that works, here’s a helpful link to tell you about finding bow sizes and draw weights for your characters. If an archer has to use a bow they’re not used to, it will probably throw them off a little until they’ve done a few practice shots with it and figured out its draw weight and stability.
People bleed. If they get punched in the face, they’ll probably get a bloody nose. If they get stabbed or cut somehow, they’ll bleed accordingly. And if they’ve been fighting for a while, they’ve got a LOT of blood rushing around to provide them with oxygen. They’re going to bleed a lot.

My First Month On Keto
Ok, so, I have officially finished my first month. Let me tell you, this wasn’t an easy month. I was just getting over the flu and a slew of illnesses that plagued me because my immune system was crap after the flu. After the first week, my husbands grandfather died. He was a good christian man and lived to be 98. He was ready to go be with the love of his life who had died 14 years (I think) prior. So, we had to travel almost 1,700 miles by car for the funeral. That meant truck stop foods and snacks. After starving the first day with what I could do keto, I decided I was taking the travel time off and get back to it when we got home. The night we got home was my daughter’s 15th birthday, so we finished it off with pizza and a rainbow cake (all from the store because it was 10 PM!). I got back on track the next morning. That being said, here is how month 1 (with a week off that I am not counting) went. Month 1: Week 1. Ok, so the eating wasn’t too bad. It took me a few days to really figure things out, and realize not everything was keto friendly, even if it seemed it was. I saw a post on FB the other day where someone said carbs are the cockroaches of Keto, they come out of no where and seem to be everywhere. WOW! Isn’t that the truth! My bologna that I love is full of them, so sad! Carbs are in cheese, cream, veggies... it’s nuts! I had started using My Fitness Pal as my food calculator since I had used it before, and quickly learned, it doesn’t track net carbs. In keto, you must count net carbs or you would eat nothing, you’d always be over carbs. Thanks to some great FB posts, I found Carb Manager. Ok, I love this app! And I make nothing for saying that, it’s just genuine truth. Once I got the food down, I ordered a ketone supplement. Now, I have high blood pressure, so, I was shocked when I checked out the nutrition information on them and found out sodium was in the thousands on most of them, like I literally could have died. Glad I checked! I did find a product called keto magic. This has been a God send for someone like me with high blood pressure. It’s just 180 mgs of sodium per serving, that is totally doable, and has electrolytes. The only down sides to it are 1. It only comes in fruit punch flavor... I am not a fan. It’s not horrible, but for me, it’s not a preferred flavor. It’s very sweet (even though it has no cane sugar). The other is the smell. I’m not going to lie, I am all about honesty, this stuff stinks in powder form. But I promise, once it’s mixed in the water (which is does so easily), the stink is gone. And of course, that means eating a high fat diet makes sense, right? HAHAHA. The good news is, it only lasted 3 days, it’s been ok since then, even without the gallbladder. Eating veggies is key! If you do keto... EAT VEGGIES, seriously, you will thank me when you aren’t backed up 3 weeks from Tuesday, or praying the molten lava will end, or wishing death to come, whichever happens first, lol. So, I didn’t have a HUGE loss like so many people do when starting keto. I am attributing that to the fact that I was already on a lower carb eating plan, and I didn’t have a lot of water to lose, which is what those big losses are, mostly water your body has been harboring. I lost 4 lbs the first week. not to bad, especially for me. As I said, I took a week off on week 2... so I started week 2 after that, so bloated that I looked very over due to have a baby, it was nuts, but I had only gained a lb. Goes to show wheat affects me more than I realized. So, week 2 went better. Just a little keto flu the first day or two, nothing like the first week, and I think it’s only because I took the travel week off. But what that taught me was that cheating on the WOE (way of eating) makes me feel miserable. I lost about 2 lbs in week 2 (not including the one I gained back from traveling). and I discovered pinterest keto recipes. Trust me, you will be grateful for them later if you go that route. Week 3, I got stuck on weight, but my pants were getting more loose. Not much happened weight wise in week 3. The keto flu was gone, weight didn’t change, I just went about my normal life. The only big thing was, Jim (hubby) started seeing the changes and jumped on board with me, though he is doing dirty keto, I am strict keto. The best thing I started to see at this point was an improvement in my blood pressure. It went from being high all the time (even with my supplements), to being... NORMAL. I haven’t seen normal in like 5 years with my blood pressure, so this was great for me. I had run 150′s/90′s for a LONG time. Suddenly I am running 120′s/70′s! WooHoo! Week 4, Still stuck most of this week in weight. BUT, I dropped from my 3rd belt loop to my 4th belt loop. Like, I have not ever, EVER used the 4th loop in the 6-7 years I have owned this type of belt. So, that was exciting, something is happening there. And my blood pressure continues to normalize. I haven’t taken any supplements this week to see who it goes, so far so good (though today is Easter, and I attempted ham, we will see how that goes. If anything throws my BP out of whack, it’s ham!) And on my last day of week 4, I finally had another little drop in weight. I am down 7.5 lbs since starting a month ago, and 1.6 lbs from my first big scale goal! No pictures as of yet to compare, but as soon as I can get my daughter to take some, I will get those posted up to compare.

The divorce rate in the WLS community is over 50% and possibly higher than that now. The significant other will get jealous of the attention that their partner is getting, get insanely jealous and start fights that will ultimately lead to the demise of a once-loving relationship. Crystal Chanel made a video several years ago about this very same thing, which will be included at the end of this article. Also consider the permanent lifestyle change when contemplating WLS: You will never be able to eat normal portions again. Dumping syndrome, food intolerances, acid reflux, hair loss, nutrient absorption issues are a real possibility. I’m not trying to scare you, I’m just stating the reality that us bariatric surgery patients face.
Your health is another factor that you should consider when trying to see if the weight loss procedure is right for you. Bariatric surgery can often be a lifesaver for those that are severely morbidly obese. The severely obese place their health at risk and may be at extreme risk for death. Unfortunately, my grandmother was one of those people that passed due to obesity-related complications 17 years ago. At the time of death, she was 5'1" and 268 lbs, morbidly obese for someone of her small stature. Her morbid obesity is what led to her death, causing her blood pressure to go up so high that it ultimately shut all her organs down (multiple organ failure due to obesity-related complications was the official cause).
You can decide whether or not you are interested in weight loss surgery. As a reminder, it’s very important to realize that you have some time to consider (and reconsider) your choice. Not all individuals are candidates for weight loss surgery and I’ve known several people that have had their paperwork denied through pure lack of effort. My former dietician said that a client of hers was denied simply because she showed a lack of effort, and didn’t lose the 5% of her body weight necessary for approval. In order for one to be considered, one must get a referral from their PCP (or GP) and go through several months of nutritionist visits, tests and a psych evaluation which is extremely important.
If you have active addictions, you will not be considered until you get your issues under control. Weight loss surgery is very serious. You’re going to be altering a part of your body that can never be put back together if you have what we call “buyers remorse”. VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy), BPD-DS (Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch) and the Gastric Bypass are irreversible so consider your choice VERY carefully before opting for surgery.

Adrenal Fatigue
Adrenal fatigue are huge buzz words these days. The other day I was browsing the supplement section at our local health food store and the area designated to fatigue, anxiety and depression was SOLD OUT! Why? This is because most people are dealing with the pressure to become successful along with too many daily stressors such as bills, relationships, unhealthy work environments, traffic, over consuming caffeine, social media over use. Our “to do" lists are way too long. Half the time we are over thinking and over reacting and we just cannot keep up with our racing minds!!
What are the adrenals?
The adrenal glands are two tiny glands that sit on top of the kidneys. When a person experiences stress, a part of the brain called the hypothalamus releases corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH). CRH then causes the pituitary gland to release ACTH, which travels through the bloodstream and attaches to the adrenal glands. It is this ACTH which causes the adrenal glands to release various stress hormones including cortisol and epinephrine. These hormones stimulate cells throughout throughout the body to dump their stored sugar into the bloodstream to be used for energy during the crisis. Due to the amount of chronic body-mind stress being experienced today, and chronic activation of the ‘flight or fight” mechanism, it is estimated that 80% of adults suffer from adrenal fatigue.
