Day 1, (Cairo/Amman/Paris), 25-9-2019
Written by Ahmed Hassan, edited and corrected by Aya Ashraf
Well, this is finally it. The moment I've always procrastinated to do. I'm finally documenting my biggest trip to Europe to date!
The trip started from September, 2019 from France passing by Italy, Vatican, Austria, Prague and ending in Germany. The trip raised my travel achievements from 5 cities, 4 countries to 15 cities, 8 countries in a total of 13 months, with a total number of 33 traveling days.
When I'm documenting my trip, I'm documenting personal experience, personal observations and opinions. it also might reflect my passion for Architecture, Art and beauty of how I see things, and how it reflects from my perspective. And to be honest, I've thought a lot about ideas of how I can show my trip well, and blogging somehow was a winner. Blogging sounds like a classic idea of how things should be documented, and I'm someone who's always nostalgic and feels classic about the present and the future.
Well, Where do I start. it's 9:00 PM on a Tuesday, On 24th of September 2019. i just had a haircut and heading home after one of the strangest days of my life. it's the day i had an emotional roller coaster; I'm getting ready to travel a the biggest planned trip ever, just a few hours after knowing I've took a hit in my career. Or at least that’s what i thought at the time. but after a few hours of Anxiety, I've decided to let all of such thoughts stop, I'm going to travel! I'm literally a few hours away from doing my most favorite thing in the whole world! I started double checking my belongings; Passport and tickets, Cash money, devices and luggage.
My plane takes off at 6:45 AM. I made sure i had arrived earlier for documentation. I finished everything around 3 hours before the flight and I'm sitting there at the airport bored and bored waiting for the time to pass, still having glimpses of anxiety from time to time.
Tumblr media
The moment has come, I hear the call for my flight. Unlike the past year, that wasn't a direct gate to the plane, but it's a shuttle bus taking us directly to the plane near the runway. It’s my first time on Royal Jordanian airlines, I gotta say the plane looks decently vintage from outside, I liked the color pattern of the fleet because you don’t see darker planes every day. as below, the plane appeared mostly black with mixed colors of blood red and gold yellow.
Tumblr media
i picked royal Jordanian because of two factors; their cheap economy tickets (Cairo/Amman/Paris and Berlin/Amman/Cairo for 6900 L.E), their luggage policy  (two 23 Kg pieces + the carry on). But I gotta say, you get what you pay for. As someone who’s been on Air France's Joon last year, all I could do is compare the seats’ quality, friendliness level of the staff and the quality of food. The three weren’t that bad at all on the RJ planes, but yeah, that was something to mention.
So the plane is prepared to take off, flight attendants are giving us instructions about safety and emergency, then we’re taxiing the runway. When people usually describe their point of life when they feel absolutely free of any restrictions, I always think about the moment when the plane is on the runway accelerating, leaving anything behind -even if temporary- and rising above the clouds, above anything that previously caused any kind of insecurity. It’s me feeling superior and feeling good about myself.
That was my first time passing over Sinai by plane, I’ve seen a lot of beautiful scenery, like the gulf of Suez and the Suez canal and its ships lining up one after the other.
Tumblr media
Also scenes of Sinai mountains, that looks small but great from above as well
Tumblr media
I’m now entering the airspace of Jordan. And I got to see the river of Jordan and glimpses of the dead sea.
Tumblr media
Just a few minutes after capturing the above picture, we were approaching Queen Aliaa International Airport in Amman for my transit. The plane was landing, and that was my first time to set foot in another Arab country. My transit was almost two hours long so it wasn’t that big of a deal, the airport was extremely clean with very fast free WiFi service, I didn’t feel bothered at all by the waiting time cause I kept exploring the airport. I wanted to buy a snack or a small meal but it was weird because of my zero understanding about the Jordanian currency in terms of what's reasonable and what's expensive. Minutes passed fast and I boarded the plane for a longer flight to Paris.
Passing over the occupied lands of Palestine gave me a special scene I won't forget, a glimpse of the dome rock mosque and the Aqsa mosque. It’s that glowing gold item in the middle of the below picture.
Tumblr media
The flight to Paris lasted about 6 hours, passing over the Mediterranean, central Europe and then finally entering the French air field. It was a matter of time before hearing the announcement that we’re reaching Charles de Gaulle Airport, I’m landing again in my favorite city in the world, one year after saying goodbye back in 2018. Took my luggage and stayed in the airport for a few hours till Islem, the Algerian friend I’m staying with, finishes his work at 6 PM, so that left me in the airport for about 4 full hours.
Tumblr media
First things first, I had to top up my French mobile line package so that I can communicate during my trip, then had a McDonalds sandwich at the airport. Also had time for a drink till I received a call from Islem to move to Aulnay-sous-Bois. Meeting Islem became one of Paris’s landmarks for me now, he’s a very nice Algerian, 2 years younger and shows a great hospitality each time I request to stay over. After my arrival at the platform, I found him right there. He guided me to the house, which was like 1 minute walking distance from the station which is a GREAT plus for a tourist. The neighborhood was actually built around the 1940s, and it's all about classic villas and buildings. My building is a great example of how the neighborhood looked.
Tumblr media
I was actually staying on the fifth - and last - floor. Anyway it was almost 7.30 and I put my stuff at Islem’s, we're going to have an outing together. Islem suggested I should have like a metro pass to all the 5 Paris districts, which came in really handy for my whole stay, and it included Versailles and Disney which were planned items.
We decided to go over the downtown and launched that plan from Châtelet, stepped out of the station to Rue de Rivoli, passed by Tour Saint Jaques.
Tumblr media
Then we passed by Paris's official city center, Hôtel de Ville. The place looked amazing as that was my first time to see it at night all lit
Tumblr media
Also had my first look at the seine by crossing Pomt d'Arcole and its beautiful scenery over the river.
Tumblr media
I also wanted to check on Notre Dame, as I was really devastated when the fire took place in April 2019, but it looked better than expected. But still it's a great loss to France and Europe.
Tumblr media
For those who don't know, Notre Dame was my favorite place to visit in Paris, and it was the place that I've seen first in Paris during my first visit in 2018. I will never forget that feeling of seeing this building in person. Now it is in a really bad condition, only hoping for it to restore its previous glory soon.
Tumblr media
I made sure to check the building as much as possible, passed by it from almost all sides. A very important funny part though: it was raining before my arrival and I didn’t notice a small water puddle behind Notre Dame, which resulted my socks and shoes all soaked with water, making me walk like i’m walking on hot rocks for a while till it started to dry out. We later reached Saint Michelle Fountain.
Tumblr media
Had the opportunity to see one of the best seine river scenes in Paris, with Notre Dame looking so fine like it was untouched.
Tumblr media
We Also passed by Pont Neuf, Paris’s oldest bridge with a construction date back to 1578. The term “Pont Neuf” means the new bridge, because of all the modernity that it embodied in the Middle Ages back then. The building, which spans the Seine at Ile de la Cité, was built during the reign of Henry III but was inaugurated in the early 17th century.  At that time, it was the very first stone bridge in Paris and also the first in the capital to have sidewalks to protect pedestrians from the mud projected by horses and carts.
Tumblr media
After crossing Pont Neuf to the other bank of the seine, we’re right in front of the back side of the Louvre museum. Islem thankfully made me enter the Louvre from the back entrance, allowing me to see the famous modern pyramid centering the 18th century old Château from a new angle.
Tumblr media
And now with the main stream angle, which I really love by the way because there’s no enough of how beautiful this place looks! I was actually surprised to see that much of people still hanging out there, later i realized the place is open till 9:45 PM on Wednesdays, and it was just 9:15 PM the moment I took the picture.
Tumblr media
We were really starving afterwards, and we couldn’t pick a place to have our dinner. So we decided to eat in the first affordable thing we see in our way. We walked down Avenue de l'Opéra heading to the Palais Garnier (Paris’s grand opera house). and as much as it always looked fantastic with its golden statues, it never looked as beautiful as I saw it that night.
Tumblr media
We were right in front of the opera when Islem suggested we go for pizza hut since it’s just around the corner, there was no space for me to say no as the last meal I had was almost 8-9 hours earlier. We went inside and we picked a chicken pizza that we shared with a drink and appetizers. and I gotta say there was no much of a difference comparing to the pizza hut we have in Egypt, only cleaner place and more expensive lol.
Tumblr media
We were finally full and we decided that I should welcome Paris in the best cliché way possible: watching the Eiffel tower at night. We moved via metro from  Opéra to Trocadéro. For those of you who don’t know, Trocadéro is the best place in Paris where you can actually view the landmark and remain absolutely speechless till you realize you spent a lot of time there and should leave.
It was the most crowded place I visited that night. Needless to say how worthy it was, I’ll just let the below pictures speak for themselves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After spending some time there, we decided to go home and rest, as Islem is working the next day, and I have to visit Chateau Versailles which I’m really excited about. Using both Metro and RER, we reached home and I was getting ready to sleep before it started raining outside.
Tumblr media
I was sleeping right under a roof window which allowed me to see the sky and the rain hitting that window and I instantly started thinking about how lucky I am that:
- It started raining right after I’m back home and right before I arrived, I really felt welcomed :)
- I’m visiting the city I love the most twice in one year! Spending so much time there while having a very good trip planned ahead.
To the next day tomorrow, I’m visiting Chateau Versailles ,La Defance and Arc de Triumph. can’t wait to start going into details about that.
Bonne nuit!

The Flight To Egypt
It wasn't that easy. Amigo decided that the cheapest way was to get a flight from Odessa to Istanbul point to point, and then get a plane to Cairo several hours later on Middle East Airlines (a Lebanese company). The catch was that we changed planes in Beirut with an 8 hour overnight stay in the airport.
The journey to Istanbul was ok, although the passport control queue was like giant constipated anaconda. We spent the afternoon in the arrivals lounge: Amigo sleeping soundly, me wandering around like an unquiet spirit. We joined another long queue to check in on our flight to Cairo. But the Man from the Middle East Airlines check-in desk, he said No! He produced a tome which said that South Koreans could only get a visa on arrival if he had a diplomatic passport. Amigo and diplomacy have never been properly introduced, so he didn't have one of those. Amigo threw a wobbly and insisted the man go away and check, which he spent a (deliberately?) unconscionable time doing. While he was doing that, Amigo and I agreed that if he couldn't go to Egypt, we would go to Beirut, from where (we assumed) we could also easily visit Israel and Jordan and eat delicious Lebanese food. But the man phoned through and said Amigo could go to Egypt after all. No apology given or requested.
We spent the night, as planned, at Beirut airport. Amigo sleeping, me occasionally dozing but mainly people watching and window shopping. They barely glanced at our passport in Cairo as they dished out 'visas on arrival' for $25 apiece.
Amigo and I share a horror of taxis so we dodged the touts and got the free shuttle from the airport to a main bus station. We finally got a bus to Tehrir Square where we did the 15 minute walk to our hostel in about 2 hours, schlepping ’our’ (80% Amigo's) excessive baggage all the way. Amigo had the idea that it was near the Al-Halal Hospital but he and the people who gave us directions there were telling porkies. When we eventually got there (schlepping along dual carriageways en route), the hostel was nowhere to be seen. Yet again we were sent from pillar to post by the various people who gave directions to get rid of Amigo as soon as possible. Eventually, one of those people turned out to work in the hostel's reception. Otherwise, we would still be wandering Cairo's streets in the dark.
The final indignity was that the hostel was on the fifth floor of a characterful but lift-less building. Apart from that, and the fact that we had to manoeuvre around Muslims at prayer, the hostel is pretty comfortable and, it would seem, very central. We'll find out how central tomorrow.

Dahab & Dahab Town
Dahab: An enchanting town surrounded by golden toned mountains, turquoise blue waters and white sands that appeal to the minds of tourists and locals; it is here where one can explore the oriental and local aspects of Egypt and it is where the inviting clear air permits one to further enjoy the tranquility whilst the morning breeze caresses your face. Regardless of its compact size, Dahab offers a variety of affordable excursions (starting from LE50 or less) that one could partake in including diving; snorkeling; (glass) boat trips; The blue hole (an attraction for snorkeling); camel rides; wind surfing and more before or after visiting Dahab Town where restaurants; antique stores; alcohol licensed bars; clothing and accessory stores await you. In comparison to Cairo, Dahab has a minimum amount of white Taxi’s although pick-up trucks; jeeps and (hotel) shuttles are available to transport you to Town where the Bus station, convenience stores; hotels; bicycle rental stores and Hospital/Clinic are also located.
With its safe environment and exquisite scenery, many tourists and foreigners who reside in Dahab travel by foot or on a rental bike throughout the day due to the inviting rays of the Dahab sunshine. It is also quite common to sight street dogs and cats here, and although not violent or provoking, these animals may be motivated to approach you once your sandwich or grilled seafood has caught their attention.  Other factors of nature in Dahab also include: sparrows; dragonflies; exotic fish; dolphins; turtles; crickets; frogs; palm trees and many green bushes that emphasize Dahab’s beauty and cultural environment.
Although Dahab is known to be a resort for hostels and luxury hotels with private beaches, it also consists of many villa’s for rent; cabins and apartments (where locals and tourists reside); public beaches and isolated grounds where prospect construction is anticipated. Whether you opt for a night trip in Dahab with a view of the moon and its reflection on the sea; a day trip cycling around town or a memorable excursion in the Red Sea, Dahab offers activities and a landscape that permits you to grasp its beauty and charm.
Dahab is yet to possess an airport; one can either travel by bus to Dahab Town or by airplane to Sharm El-Sheikh where a taxi or bus can transport you to Dahab. An alternative to this is a ‘tour package’ that is offered by various agencies that organize your journey to Dahab. One of these agencies (although based in the UK and is in possession of the 2017 Traveler’s Choice Gold award granted by Tour Radar.com),  is ‘Timeless Tours.’ This agency offers great tour packages that include luxury or standard accommodation and travel; one of their package is a 15 day  trip to Dahab, Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and a 5 star Nile (boat cruise)—at an extraordinary price. Their itinerary caters to individuals and families (including children) who are interested in exploring Egypt in an unprecedented way; Timeless Tours offers professional and bilingual tour leaders as well as tours that permit you to understand Egypt and the lifestyle of the locals living in it. For more information on this package or for booking, please browse the Timeless Tours profile on Tour Radar: http://www.tourradar.com/timeless-tours or the Timeless Tours website: http://www.gotimelesstours.co.uk/

Travel_01
June.11-12.2017 Hello hello-- Today has been one of the longest days of my life, and not just because I am crossing a time zone! The morning started at 3am. I still hadn't booked a hostel for Mumbai yet, as I was asking around for suggestions, so I woke up early to do some research. I actually also downloaded air bnb, but couldn't verify my old account as my 703 number is currently inactive, so I had to make a new account. There weren't many listings on air bnb, or the ones that were listed were quite expensive. I decided to just look at hostel world and search there. I think I found a good hostel, and really just wanted somewhere to land. If I don't like it, I can always leave, I guess. I got ready, which involved brushing teeth, packing, and leaving my key. When I got downstairs there was a cab waiting for me. I got into the cab, got to the airport, and checked in. It was about 4:15a by the time I got to the gate, with the plane taking off at 5:30a. I bought a muffin and a water for breakfast. The muffin wasn't great, but I wasn't really in a place to be picky. At the gate, I actually sat next to a man I saw yesterday at the valley of the kings. He is a teacher from St. Louis and was doing a tour around Egypt for two weeks. We chatted a bit, which was nice, and swapped stories about our time in Egypt. In the middle of our conversation, it was announced our flight was delayed an hour. No big deal, since my flight to Kuwait didn't leave until 1:30p. 6:30 came and we were all boarded and ready to go. Behind me sat two children, one who wouldn't stop screaming and one who was shouting to talk. There was also a French woman who kept talking the entire flight. I don't know where all these people got their energy from. I kind of fell asleep, but was awake enough to get a mango juice for later. After an hour of screaming and kind of sleeping, we landed in Cairo. This is where I thought it would be easy, as connecting flights within airports are usually seamless, even if they're from domestic to international, however, this was not my case. A man directed me upstairs to go through customs. Normal. I go through customs but don't have a customs report. I leave and do it. I go back through customs. I am told I'm in the wrong terminal. The email says terminal 1. I am at terminal 3. Luckily, there's a shuttle bus. I would rather walk three miles at this point than get into another Egyptian cab. I wait for 20 minutes, constantly telling cabbies that I'm not in need of a ride and that I'm not Chinese, and then finally get into a crammed shuttle bus. It has many stops and I get off at the wrong one. Luckily I can squeeze back in. I get off at terminal one. Go through entrance security and then try to get into the ticketing area. I send all of my belongings through, only to be told that I am supposed to be in terminal 2. I get my things and I head outside. I ask the tourist police where the shuttle is. A taxi man tries to grab my arm and I rip it away from him. There's s tram that I can take, which I do. I take it to terminal 2. I go through entry security. I send all my things through again to get to ticketing, and I am told that I need to wait 20 minutes because I'm too early for my flight. I almost lose it. They also say I need a paper ticket, which I cannot get without visiting a counter, or printing out an email. I finally get let in, grab my things, and search for the ticket counter. It's no where to be seen. I try to use a kiosks, they are all not working. At this point I'm told that the Kuwait airlines counter isn't open because it's too early. It's only 3 hours before the flight. An international flight. There's nothing to do but wait, so I wait. I finally get in line to get my boarding passes. It's surprisingly complicated. I have to show my visa, and prove that I'm flying out of India before the 60 days of my visa are up. I am so thankful I got data because the wifi is just not reliable in airports and I would have been in big trouble without this information. I pick up my passes and head up to my gate. To complete tradition, I have a beer, to say I've had a beer in every country I've visited. It was really early... before 11 am, so I was super tired after it. I had a croissant and took my malaria pill. Let's hope I don't forget to take these everyday! I found my way to the gate and took a nap. I woke up to my alarm that I had set for boarding, got onto the plane, and fell back asleep. I was/am so tired! The flight was only 3 hours I think, but they gave me lunch. It was a sandwich, a really good cookie kind of thing, and some potatoes. Overall really good. It also came with milk which I was kind of exited about until I realized that it was butter milk, so a bit sour! I ate my lunch and fell back asleep until a member of the flight crew woke me up to put my tray up. Unlike my flight from Cairo, no one sat next to me (middle seat was open) and I was in the aisle, so I got some good sleep. I got to Kuwait, found some food (raising canes! Really good chicken tenders), ate, found the transition waiting area, and waited for my layover to be... well, over! The wifi wasn't working, and the shows I had downloaded onto my phone for travel through Netflix aren't available to be watched in Kuwait, so I read, napped, and played games on my phone. Not really soon, but soon enough it was time for me to try to get into the gate. The way they have their airport set up is very interesting - the gate has its own security, which only opens when it's time for a flight. It's not like Dulles where you go through security and then all the gates are just open for you. I've never gone through so much security in my life before. By the time we actually boarded, it was almost time to go. I was very far back, in the window seat, but as luck would have it, I was sitting alone! A whole three seats to sleep on. I fell asleep before we took off, like always, and was woke up about an hour later to eat dinner. I wasn't hungry, but I didn't know when I would eat next, so I made myself eat. The food was butter chicken and rice, with a pudding. It was delicious! I had a really yummy pineapple juice to go with it all. After I put my tray up, and the food was taken, I promptly fell back asleep. I didn't realize how stressful and tiring it was to be traveling so much. When I woke up, it was time to get off the plane. Since I knew I was so far back, I took my time getting ready, as there was no real point not rushing up and trying to leave. I made sure I didn't leave anything behind, gathered my things, and got off the plane. Immediately I was struck with how humid it was. It was cold in the plane and in the airports, so I was wearing my raincoat. There was no need. It trapped all my heat and made me so sticky! Once inside, I walked for what seemed like a mile until I got to the visa stop. I had my e-visa so it was pretty simple. I got a stamp, a signature, and went on my way. The worst part was finding an ATM. It seemed like all the ATMs didn't have cash. I went to five different ones until I was told to go to departures, as they would have the money. I did just that, and called an Uber. I figured it would be easier than trying to get a taxi. Even at 5am, there were a ton of taxis out. I was sweaty, tired, and exhausted. In Mumbai, the Uber's are all at one central parking deck. I called one and was expecting it to come to me, but the help desk explained I needed to go to it. I got there and my driver found me, and we were on our way. When we left the garage, he handed me a slip of paper. It was the parking fee of 100 rupees. I was confused as to whether or not I was supposed to pay it. The smallest bill I had was 500 so I panicked a bit. I googled what was going on, and read an article from Uber saying that the price reflected the 100 rupee parking price, and that I didn't need to pay anything. It didn't make it any less awkward, but gave me some peace of mind. When the Uber driver pulled up to the hostel sign, I was so unsure. It was literally like an alley, with mud and tents. I couldn't even see the hostel. I made up my mind that if the hostel was bad I would find another or air bnb or something. I was so unsure. I walked into the hostel and the hostel workers were sleeping on the porches. One of them woke up and helped me. I wasn't very polite and asked to see the room/cube. The way it's set up is one long room with bunk bed type things, that are each their own private little cubbies. It was actually like the photos and I decided to stay. I had to pay an extra 300 rupees for an early check, which I gladly did. I paid, did the paperwork, got wifi, used the bathroom, put my things away, and laid in my bed chatting. I actually fell asleep before I could finish this, so I'll fill in the gap as to what I did after I woke up later. Until tomorrow (a few hours)--

Qatar Airways recently retrofitted their Airbus A340-600s from a 3 cabin to a 2 cabin aircraft. These birds used to fly to London and Paris and offered a First Class product. Those routes have now been replaced by QR’s A380, A350, 787, and 777s depending on the day and schedule.
Qatar Airways A340-600
All 4 A340-600s have been retrofitted with only 24 flat bed business class seats, and a whopping 348 economy seats. These planes are now deployed to lower yield routes, and like Colombo, Kuala Lumpur, Cairo, and Algiers just to name a few, as well as short haul “shuttle” flights within the region.
Qatar Airways’ A340-600 routes
We started off at Hamad International Airport where we spent most of our time at the Al Mourjan Business Lounge. We walked around for a bit, had a sandwich at their casual “deli” restaurant on the main level.
Chicken Sandwich from the Al Mourjan Lounge
Then, we went to their shower area for a hot shower, but there was quite a line. We waited for about an hour, and eventually 2 rooms opened up. The attendant walked us to our respective shower rooms and asked if he could get us any amenities. I asked for a toothbrush, which he quickly brought. The shower room was a good size with a toilet, sink, and various toiletries.
Shower Room at the Al Mourjan Lounge
After a refreshing shower, we headed upstairs to the main restaurant. We sat down and ordered some champagne and water. The restaurant used to offer made to order entrées in addition to the buffet spread but sadly those days are gone. We took a few hot items from the buffet to tie us over before our next on-board meal.
The view from the Dining Area at the Al Mourjan Lounge
After our meal, we made our way to the gate area. Upon arrival, we waited about 10 minutes before boarding started. Passengers with disabilities and young children boarded first, followed by business class passengers.
View upon boarding
Upon arrival at the plane door, we were greeted by Puneet, the in-flight service manager. He asked one of the flight attendants to walk us over to our seats. We were seated in 2J and 2K on the starboard side of the airplane.
The Business Class Cabin of Qatar Airways A340-600
As I mentioned above, there are 24 business class seats in a 2-2-2 configuration on this aircraft. The seats are ideal if you are traveling with a companion, but not for solo travelers since not everyone gets direct aisle access. I have to note that because of the curvature of the plane, the overhead bins above our seats were not large enough to fit our carry ons. We had a hard time stowing our luggage, and had to move back to row 4/5 to stow our luggage.

After settling in, a flight attendant offered us a pre-departure beverage and hot or cold towel. We ordered some champagne and cold towels to cool us down.
Pre-departure beverage service
We were also offered the wine list and a printed sheet of paper which was the menu for today’s flight. The flight attendant was apologetic, and explained that they had issues printing the in-flight dining menu for the flight.
Menu and Wine List
We were also offered mini-amenity kits.
Qatar Airways Mini Amenity Kit
Soon boarding was complete and the Captain made his pre-departure announcement, and mentioned that our flight time to Colombo would be 4 hours and 20 minutes. We soon pushed back from the gate as the Safety Video played.
QR’s Soccer themed Safety Video
During taxi, Puneet, came by to formally welcome us to the flight, followed by another flight attendant who took our beverage and meal orders.
Pushback
It was a quick taxi to the end of the runway, after which the engines revved up and we were off to Colombo. As this was an A340, the takeoff roll was slightly longer, and the ascent was gradual.
Taxiing past a Philippine Airlines A330-300.
It was a rather choppy start of the flight as we made our way up, and it got quite bumpy at certain times during the flight.  It was a good 20 minutes, before the captain turned off the seatbelt sign, after which the flight attendants started their on-board service.
I ordered a strawberry and fig smoothie to start.
Strawberry and fig Smoothie
Then my table was set complete with a bread basket, butter, and jam
Table is set
Next up, I ordered the seasonal fresh fruits.
Seasonal Fresh Fruits
For the main entrée, I ordered the omelet with chicken and potato rosti. It was very filling and delicious!
Soon after we were done with our meal, our table was cleared and we were offered hot towels.
After the meal service, I visited the lavatory to freshen up a bit. The lavatory was a good size and it even had a window! As usual, it was well stocked with QR’s amenities and toiletries.
After going back to my seat, I felt a bit tired so I just made my bed and took a quick nap.
I slept for about an hour and decided to flip through the IFE content. Ultimately, I just decided to watch the moving map.
About 45 minutes after, the captain announced our initial descent into Colombo. The view was nice on the way down, though it got bumpy at times.
Puneet came by again and thanked us for flying Qatar Airways, as the crew started their landing preparations.
Landing was gradual and uneventful. We taxied for a few minutes before parking on a remote stand next to a SriLankan A330. We soon bid farewell to the crew, took the stairs down and got on the bus to the terminal. The bus ride was quick, and before we knew it we were at the Terminal transit counters to get our boarding passes for our next flight.
Overall, I thought this was a nice flight. The service was from the crew was attentive and the food was excellent. I thought the seat was comfortable enough, but this may not be the case if I was traveling alone and had to climb over someone when I need to access the aisle. Also, if you’re the claustrophobic type, you may want to choose an aisle seat as the window seats may feel a little cramped. The overhead bin was probably the biggest issue for me since, for the life of me couldn’t fit my luggage above my seat. The missing dining menu was a little tacky, but understandable. I would give this flight a good 7 out of 10.
