presumptuous ( she believes, anyway ) of him, to insinuate her defeat. it is true her current party lacks in numbers, but her remaining forces are standing by at the stark encampment, awaiting command. the noble looks too mild mannered to live up to his houses' reputation. to some, bolton is synonymous with BRUTAL, but the skagosi are as unmoving as mountains.
" your banner suggests otherwise. " emerald eyes fall from the symbols held high above down to the noble before her. she can appreciate the bluntness of sigil. this house is not pretending to be anything it is not. oh, how the southerners amuse her.

AU: Elia Martell and Rhaella Targaryen, the sun and the dragon (1 /?)
At the end of the War of the Usurper, Elia with the help of Jaime Lannister managed to make peace with Robert Baratheon despite the fact that he killed her husband, Rhaegar Targaryen. Robert and Eddard Stark demanded the release of Lyanna Stark, Eddard's sister and Robert's fiancée, something that Elia accepted. In order to win the favor of the Starks, she agreed to return the remains of Rickard Stark and Brandon Stark, Ned's father and brother, in addition to paying funerals out of respect.
Elia returned Lyanna to her family, but what everyone did not expect was that the young woman had become pregnant with Rhaegar and this provoked the wrath of Robert Baratheon, but the princess of Dorne offered her that the little one live in Winterfell and that his mother could visiting him, something that Robert did not like, but in the end he agreed that his friend Ned raised him and that his beloved Lyanna visit his son, if he wanted to have her.
In the year 284 a. C., little Aegon was crowned Aegon VI Targaryen and Elia Martell was named as his regent, despite the gossip about the princess. That same year, Rhaella Targaryen widow of Aerys II returned from dragonstone with her children, Viserys and Daenerys, this was a great joy for Elia and her children, since mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were very appreciated and Rhaella loved her. grandchildren of her.
Elia Martell: Elia was regent for her son Aegon VI for 14 years, at that time his regency was described as peaceful and surrounded himself with advisers who were mostly Dornish, his main adviser was his brother Doran who gave him ideas about new reforms such as accepting that a young widow remarried and allowing an illegitimate child to have the right to inheritance in the event that his legitimate siblings do not have children.
In the year 298 a. C., his son Aegon was declared of legal age, Elia moved away from political life, focused on charitable acts helping various orphanages and instilling some Dornish customs in the court, being compared to the former queen, Mariah Martell. In 309 a. C., she ordered to rebuild the castle of Summer Refuge and placed in a room the portraits of the victims of the fire as a sign of respect. Elia lived for a time in the castle receiving the visit of her children, grandchildren and her brothers, leading a quiet and full life.
Elia passed away in 313 a. C. her, she at 56 years old she was the victim of her poor health and she was cremated, her ashes were buried next to those of Queen Rhaella Targaryen.
Rhaella Targaryen: Rhaella was sheltered in Dragonstone with her young son, Viserys, and her baby in her womb. She became a widowed queen when her brother-husband, Aerys II died at the hands of Jaime Lannister, but her eldest son, Rhaegar also passed away and this news broke the queen who was in her last months of gestation, but she tried to reassure herself by the good of your baby. In the year 284 a. C., Rhaella went into labor and gave birth to a girl, Daenerys, and was warned that another delivery of her could kill her. That same year, Rhaella's grandson was crowned Aegon VI Targaryen and the widow set off for King's Landing with her children to meet her beloved daughter-in-law, Elia, and her beloved grandchildren.
Rhaella remained by her family's side leading a quiet life and she spent her days taking care of her children, riding horses and having lively talks with a small social circle that she began to create. She mourned her husband for a whole year, but she was reunited with her old love, Bonifer Hasty and she obtained Elia's permission to marry hers, despite the fact that this marriage was morganatic. The queen and her new husband settled in rooms in the red fortress, and it is known that the marriage was solid and harmonious with Bonifer being a good stepfather for Viserys and Daenerys.
Rhaella Targaryen passed away in 305 a. C., at 60 years of age due to cardiac complications being a great pain for her entire family. She was cremated and her ashes rest alongside those of Rhaegar and Elia Martell.
Aegon VI Targaryen: He was king of the Seven Kingdoms and the sixth of his name, he was crowned with two years of age and his regent was his mother, Elia Martell. Aegon grew up alongside his sister, Rhaenys, and his paternal uncles, Viserys and Daenerys, receiving classes from Rhaella and Elia.
At first Aegon would marry his older sister, Rhaenys, but his grandmother convinced Elia that it was not a good idea, since Rhaella thought that so much incest practiced by several Targaryen generations could cause infertility or stillborn babies to the king, which is why he sought several maidens to be the next queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Many lords of different houses offered their daughters as wives, but it was not until 298 a. C., when Aegon came of age and organized a dance to meet the candidates to be his wife.
All the maidens of the Seven Kingdoms were introduced and Aegon danced with some of them, but he chose Shireen Baratheon, daughter of Stannis Baratheon and niece of Robert Baratheon. Although the Lord of Storm's End had two daughters, Aegon decided on Shireen, appearing to him to be a very beautiful and sweet girl, this was well liked by Elia and Rhaella in a way to appease the tensions between the Baratheon and the Targaryens.
The wedding took place on the first day of the year 299 a. C., Aegon was 17 years old and Shireen 10 years old, the marriage was not consummated until the year 304 a. C.. The marriage was happy and Shireen bore him five sons and two daughters, ensuring the descendants of the Targaryen-Baratheon.
Aegon's reign was peaceful highlighting the alliances between different houses with which the Targaryens were at odds. He married several of his sons and daughters to different members of royal houses, notably the Martells, the Lannisters, the Tyrells and the Arryns. Aegon reigned for 51 years, considered one of the kings that reigned the most in the Seven Kingdoms, being the second after Jaehaerys I Targaryen. Aegon was called "The Little King" and later "The Peacemaker", being remembered as a good king who brought peace to the kingdom after the reign of terror of his grandfather, Aerys II.
Aegon passed away in 335 a. C., at 53 years of age, victim of puerperal fever due to a hunting accident where he cut his hand and the wound was not well treated.
Rhaenys Targaryen: she was the sister of King Aegon VI and at first her fiancée, but her grandmother Rhaella convinced her mother, Elia Martell, not to do more incestuous practices because she had many difficulties to have healthy children. So Rhaenys became a highly sought-after girl because if her brother died without issue she could be the new queen along with her husband.
The princess had many suitors, but her mother decided that she would marry the heir of Winterfell, Robb Stark as a way to appease the tensions between the Starks, Baratheon and the Targaryens after Robert's Rebellion. This marriage was well seen by Eddard Stark and Catelyn Tully who accepted the engagement and in receiving the princess. In 297 a. C., Rhaenys said goodbye to her family and left for the North, where her fiancée, her political family and the Stark entourage were waiting for her. That same year the case couple, the princess was 17 years old and her fiancé 14 years old, but they liked each other at first sight.
Life in the north was somewhat tumultuous for Rhaenys, as she loved to ride, dance and practice with the sword, being frowned upon by her mother-in-law, Catelyn Stark, and her sister-in-law Sansa, but she soon gained the sympathy of her father-in-law, Ned. and his brothers-in-law Arya, Bran and Rickon Stark. It is unknown how her relationship was with her half-brother Jon Stark hers when they met, but it is believed that they both had a good relationship and could even be friends.
In the year 299 a. C., Rhaenys became pregnant for the first time and this was a great joy for everyone, but the princess was pressured by her mother-in-law who criticized her for anything she did in her condition and especially when she attended her brother's wedding, Aegon with Shireen Baratheon. This burdened Rhaenys so much that she gave birth to her first child, Eddard prematurely. The next five years Rhaenys had three more children, Elia, Rhaena and Alaric Stark with them she traveled to King's Landing to visit her brother and her mother.
Rhaenys was influential in the northern court doing various tournaments and dances, in addition to organizing banquets for the vassals and their children in a way to thank her for her great effort. The princess was called "The Winter Sun" and was loved by all, but she was also the envy of some women, especially Sansa Stark and her friend, Jeyne Poole, who criticized her in her social circle for her Dornish appearance and her style of typical life of a gentleman.
In the year 304 a. C., Eddard Stark passed away due to heart problems and Rhaenys along with Robb became lords of Winterfell, being acclaimed by all. Rhaenys focused on charity, court, hunting, and her children whom she adored. As Mistress of Winterfell she was good and much loved by all, Domeric Bolton admitted that she was just as beautiful as Catelyn Tully, but Rhaenys shone like the sun.
The years passed and it is known that the couple was very happy, Robb was always faithful to his wife and he was never known for any conquest despite being highly sought after by some ladies. In the year 335 a. C., King Aegon VI died and the death of her brother was a great pain for Rhaenys since she was very close to him, losing the two people she loved the most, her mother and her brother. A year later Rhaenys became seriously ill after falling into a pool of frozen water in the cold and was in bed for several months until the first day of 337 a. C., Princess Rhaenys passed away at 57 years of age and was buried in the crypts of Invernalia where she later would be accompanied by her husband, Robb Stark.

yoooo do you think roose started being leeched after domeric died? B/c in ADWD he says something about the leeches getting rid of rage/pain, then immediately brings up domeric and how Ramsay killed him....
I personally don’t think he started leeching this late - Domeric died in 297 AC, which means at most a year before the northern plot in aGoT starts. But the way Barbrey talks about Roose, it seems to be a consistent character trait that she is used to seeing in him:
“Roose has no feelings, you see. Those leeches that he loves so well sucked all the passions out of him years ago.” - aDwD
While 297 AC is technically “years ago” from when she says this (300 AC), Roose has been in war for around 2 of these years where she didnt see him much, and before that they also didn’t live together, so he has probably been acting like that for longer than just 297 AC.
Catelyn also never comments on his paleness as though it is a new thing (though granted, we also don’t have a canon confirmation that the leeches caused it, but i think it’s likely). There’s also the line “This is a cold man, Catelyn realized, not for the first time“, which seems related to Barbrey’s assessment of him having no feelings, and also hints at him being like that for years. Not that leeches literally/biologically suck emotions of course, but Barbrey seems to connect his lack of emotions to his leeching habit as though both have been coexisting for a long time.
"My squire could take a lesson from you, it would seem. Frequent leechings are the secret of a long life.” - aCoK
"I know." Lord Bolton sighed. "His blood is bad. He needs to be leeched. The leeches suck away the bad blood, all the rage and pain. No man can think so full of anger.” - aDwD
Roose’ leeching habit is interesting because it seems to have an intersecting purpose of not only keeping his physical health, but also being a psychological crutch to keep his emotions mellow. The leeching habit itself likely started as a general caution; Roose seems to be a somewhat anxious person, with a lot of his actions centered around evading risks (stuff like sending out a decoy that wears his armor in aDwD, these grrm quotes [1] [2], his habit of hiding emotions which seems to have the purpose that people cant use them against him, his health-related food choices like drinking hippocras, being paranoid not to be poisoned in aDwD...). Events like his wife Bethany dying from a fever and his son Domeric dying from a sickness of the bowels probably made his health habits more intense (because they are events that happened to people close to him it might have increased his fear for himself), even resulting in what are probably adverse health effects in case of the leeching (which seems to make him pale due to how excessive it is, and likely makes him lack energy which could cause his quiet voice and probably even has an influence on his mellowed behaviour).
Since I generally hc that his leech habit got worse in the years after Robert’s Rebellion (not directly caused by RR, just generally getting worse with age), in pictures where he’s younger i usually give him a healthier skin tone 🤔
[Speculation, cw rape mention] I perceive it as likely that he went through somewhat of a character change, either in the years following Robert’s Rebellion or starting earlier. In the story of the miller’s wife (taking place before RR), despite current Roose trying to spin it as a rational act in his retelling, i believe we have an instance of past him acting very emotionally-driven (his retaliation to being “cheated” reads similar to ramsay being sent into a “black rage” when personally insulted). Barbrey’s statement i quoted earlier also has a tinge of bitterness to it, and it also seems Roose must have a reason to believe the leeches suck out “anger and pain”. Since Theon and Catelyn never comment on him having changed, it seems likely that he started a character change a little before Robert’s Rebellion - Though since Cat never was close to him, she’d also probably percieve changes in him more as her just adjusting the initial impression she had of him rather than an outright character development.
But i also don’t think he went through anything, like, Aeron-level drastic - he likely just took care to cultivate a very strong public persona (calm, quiet, emotionless) to avoid any risk of people reading his thoughts or him doing anything rash or embarassing. It’s also likely that age mellowed and matured him like it does most people, and the leeching may or may not have an actual physical effect that further influences his personality. While i don’t think that he was ever as bad as Ramsay (though Roose also undoubtedly did his fair share of horrifying acts), the way he gives him advice seems to show he’s under the impression that Ramsay could simply “clean up his act” (to the public eye at least), implying Roose might have done a comparable development. However, there also seems to be a frustration/disdain in Roose (considering he seems to avoid Ramsay somewhat - residing at Barrow Hall earlier in aDwD which Ramsay is banned from, indirectly sending him messages later in aDwD, and holding political meetings without him in A Ghost in Winterfell), hinting that he might realize by now that Ramsay is a lost cause.
Though again, since Roose is not a PoV and we don’t have any PoV that is close to him/likes him/talks about his past, this is all speculation which can be proved or disproved both by different readings of his lines and new developments in TWoW.

Lady Bethany Ryswell was the eldest daughter of Lord Rodrik Ryswell and the second wife of Lord Roose Bolton.
Lady Bethany was the second wife of Lord Roose Bolton. According to Roose, Bethany made no sound while they were in bed. She had a son, Domeric, who died in A.D. 297, probably killed by her husband's bastard son.
Once Hediondo, a servant from Fort Terror, was caught stealing perfume from Lady Bethany's rooms, for which he was punished. However, a year later she did it again, but drinking the perfume.
Lady Bethany died of a fever in AD 298. C.
I think she and Roose were not attracted, even sexually. Roose talked about Walda screaming and making noises in bed, which she liked, while Bethany (and the first wife is supposed to) didn't make noises.

To Marry a Bastard
Ramsay Bolton x Reader
ao3
summary:  Before there were the Bastard’s Bitches, the Black Sheep, the Wicked Ones, and the Red King’s to worry about there was only the Bastard’s Boys. Before there was a bun in the oven there was a possessive, obsessive love. There was raw emotion. There was a rowdy group of men who frequented a small, hole in wall, bar…. There was something evil behind that smirk. But there was also something needing and wanting behind those cold blue eyes.

Chapter 3: ‘Cuz This is THRILLER
×××Ramsay×××
”You’re late.” Roose said in his usual cool tone.
Ramsay frowned, but placed his jacket over the back of the chair and sat, rolling up his sleeves a little. For the end of October the days were still unseasonably warm. He pulled at his tie a bit and relaxed into the handsome leather chair before speaking. “Apologies, father. Traffic was a disaster. There was a wreck apparently.”
”Never mind that now. We have business to discuss.” Roose said curtly, setting his pen down and pushing the papers he was signing away from him.
”Yes, yes. Numbers. Everything is in working order. Why can’t I work here? Do you have any idea how much I hate the bank?” Ramsay said, words tumbling slightly.
”I have told you. I don’t trust anyone with our money but us. I need you at the bank to make sure everything is taken care of.”
Ramsay sighed, feeling ruffled. He could still do the same work by working here in the family company. Domeric did. “Yes but—“
”There are no buts Ramsay.” Roose cut across him. His voice never raised, but there was a finality in his tone to not be challenged.
Ramsay tutted, turning his eyes to the window to avoid looking at his father. Always being reprimanded like some child. It stung. Never as good as perfect little Domeric. Fucking prick. “Well, all accounts are accounted for. However, it has come to my attention that account c-one ten has made no change in two months.”
Roose considered his son in a few moments silence before nodding. “Take care of it.”
Ramsay turned his eyes back to his father and raised a brow. “How?”
”Any way you see fit.”
Ramsay cracked a wide, maliciously insane smile. “And the losses?”
”Will be picked up and added elsewhere.”
Ramsay nodded, still wearing his manic grin. “If that is all then... It’s Halloween. I have a fun night planned.”
”Then you will call your brother from the city jail and not me.” Roose said dismissively, picking up his pen again and turning back to the papers before him.

"Your skirt could be just a bit shorter." Olyvar said, bumping you out of the way of the mirror with his bony hip, to finish his zombie make up.
"Probably. But, I'd rather not be molested by ghosts and ghouls tonight." You chuckled, placing your fox ears on.
"Fair." Olyvar nodded. "You know, I was thinking... Maybe throwing you a big party. Kinda like a twenty first birthday, friendiversary kind of thing. I mean, you've been here three years now, and I couldn't imagine a more fun coworker than you."
You turned to Olyvar and beamed, "You don't have to do that. It's not a big deal. Just hanging out with you is enough of a party."
"Well, yes, but..." Olyvar shrugged. "Are we ready to have a monster mash?"
"Only if it's a graveyard smash." You winked with a giggle and leaving the bathroom of your apartment.
There was something about this little bar that you loved. Maybe it was the sense of freedom it brought you after your abrupt leave from home and never looking back. It was a fresh start, and at 18 when you had taken the job, you couldn't have been anymore grateful. You also loved the people who came in. Regardless of status or occupation, they were all here to have a good time, and you would make sure to deliver. You and Olyvar were a seamless team, and the Old Man, as you called your boss, well, he made sure to pay you both well for the fantastic job you both did in keeping the place well beyond the 'up to scratch' mark.
The costumes filling up the bar were grand. Some well thought out, others made you giggle. You stood behind the bar, filling orders, exchanging cash, and reminding people to enter the costume contest. The music upbeat, and Halloween classics in between dances. It was probably your favorite holiday at the bar. Sure, Christmas was fun, but all in all, watching people get hammered in naughty nurse and Pyramid Head costumes was the highlight of the year.

"Oh cheer up. She was a whore, and you knew that in high school." Ramsay tutted, adjusting one of his cufflinks and smoothing out his tie.
Alyn looked over the top of his glass and frowned at Ramsay, "Okay, yeah sure. But Skinner?"
Ramsay shrugged, "He has class. And he's a lawyer, and he lives in the land of always sunny and warm. Get over yourself. Just fuck half the bitches that show up on your Tinder and call it even. Now come on, we have fun shit to do."
"Like?"
"Well, we have a insufficient funds account to dispose of, and then we are going to get hammered. Ben and Damon should have the account moved by now." Ramsay said, placing his fedora jauntily atop his head and giving a haughty sniff.
Alyn sighed and gave Ramsay a look over, "Capone?"
"Mhm." Ramsay hummed, lighting a cigarette, nudging Alyn's foot with a wingtipped shoe and making his way to the door. "I've been dying for an excuse to use a Tommy, and what better way to do it than on Halloween, masquerading as Al Capone?"
"Fair." Alyn said, finally standing from the couch and following Ramsay out the door.
It was a quick drive across town. The sun had just started to set and children were beginning to emerge in their Batman and Elsa costumes. Something about Halloween made Ramsay giddy and animated. Maybe it was the mix of candies and alcohol. The fact that he could wear blood on him in public, and no one would think twice about it. Or just simply for the fact that mentally, as smart as he was, Ramsay was often childlike in his actions.
He and Alyn got out of the car behind an old warehouse the Boltons kept for tax purposes. They no longer stored manufactured goods here, but it still brought a tax break. And it was a secure place that Roose had allotted for Ramsay to 'take out the trash' when it involved family business means. Though, Ramsay was left on his own when he was to play his games for his own leisure purposes. Business only. And tonight it was business before party.
They entered the building to find Damon and Ben already set up. More or less. Damon and Ben sat at a small table in the corner, playing cards, waiting on Ramsay to show up and take care of the man they had gagged and bound to a chair. Alyn wandered over to take a seat with Damon and Ben, who didn't even bother to give a look at who had entered. All of this was like walking through motions. They Boys knew what to expect, and so they just let their boss get on with it.
Ramsay crossed to the man in the chair, kneeling down before his victim and cracked a wide, manic grin. He took in the beads of sweat forming in the man's hairline and popping eyes. He already smelt like piss and regret. Perhaps this wouldn't be as fun as he had anticipated, maybe he should just gut the fucker and go drown in a bottle of whiskey. "I suppose you know why you're here?" He said sweetly to the man.
At once the man tried to shift in his seat and speak out. The gag obscured his words however, and that seemed to send him into a heavier panic. Tugging harder at the cuffs on his hands and feet. Squirming this way and that at the rope around his chest. Eyes now bulging with fear when Ramsay pulled a knife from his pocket and flipped the blade open. He could hear the panicked breathing as he placed the knife to the man's cheek.
"You haven't paid anything in two months. That's not how it works. Not a fucking charity here. And judging by your shoes, you aren't a charity fucking case. Two hundred dollars a week for six months really wasn't a bad idea. And now a little girl is going to be without a father. Her mother already a drunk. And no daddy there to stand between the two. Sad time's we're living in, pal. But you did do it to yourself." Ramsay sneered, pressing the blade into the man's cheek. The man made more aggressive movements and more muffled pleading, but Ramsay had already grown bored.
"Dame, come hold his head. I wasn't a clear throat here." Ramsay snapped, glancing over at the Boys.
Damon jumped up from his seat and crossed the room quickly, taking the man's sweaty hair in his fingers and forcing his head up. It was a quick slice, spattering Ramsay in blood. He gave a satisfied smirk before wiping the blade off on his sleeve. He closed the blade and returned it to his pocket as he shook back the sleeve of his suit jacket and checked the time. "We have...?"
"A wood chipper out back." Ben said, tossing cards down and turning to look at Ramsay.
"Oh goodie." Ramsay chuckled, looking down at the bleeding out mess before him. "Well first, one of you get the Tommy. I've been itching to shoot it. And then we will dump him in the chipper, and drinks are on me all night."
"Where we going?" Damon asked, wiping his hands off on his pants.
"That one place." Ramsay said, waving a careless hand.
"Ah. Gonna make eyes at the chick behind the counter, but still not talk to her, huh?" Damon chuckled, giving Ramsay a wink.
Ramsay snorted, "Yeah, something like that." He nodded. How the girl had been plaguing his mind for days on end now, and he wasn't sure why. He usually didn't obsess over people. He was materialistic. He didn't form attachment. Not to anyone other than Damon, who had been his friend for the last twenty years. But something about the woman, (Y/N) Damon had said, had caught his attention and refused to let go. Like some kind of invisible bond that neither were aware of. But he was going to change that.
---
"Oh my goodness, go turn the AC up or something. I'm fucking melting over here." You said when Olyvar passed you.
It was only 10 pm and you were so ready to go home. Slinging drinks was turning into a sloppy mess, thanks to those who were overly intoxicated. Your eyes continuously falling on a group of men in the back corner who were laughing and carrying on. Chicks here and there stopping to pay them attention, and occasionally flash their tits that were already falling out of their tops. You noticed that two of them were guys from a few nights ago that had caught your attention then too. Olyvar commented on this many times.
"Just go talk to them, bring them refills or something." He coaxed many times.
However, you had declined each time. Your face flushing every time you even caught the profile of the shortest one of the group. His dark hair, hauntingly blue eyes, and that wicked smirk. His costume was your favorite by far. Because it was more realistic than most you had seen throughout the night. You shook your head, remembering what you were supposed to be doing and pulling your eyes away from the loud group. One idiot, lively and animated, climbing up on the table and telling some wild story that only bits and pieces you could make out over the other patrons talk and laughter, and loud music from all around.
You had kept yourself busy by filling more drinks, cutting people off, and calling cabs for those that were too drunk to make the call themselves.
Turning when you felt the presence of a customer behind you, you felt your cheeks redden and air leave your lungs. He was even cuter up close, and he knew it. His bold grin told you so.
"Shot of Jack." He said, looking past you.
"Sure thing." You said almost breathlessly, grabbing a shot glass and the bottle behind you.
As you slid the glass across the counter he brushed your hand with his. He glanced up and looked at you.
And is was as if the world had fallen away. You could have sworn he drew a sharp breath as your heart skipped many beats. Your face warmed and you looked away quickly, pulling your hand back awkwardly.
He threw back the shot, set the glass down gently, and slid a crisp $100 across the counter.
"Keep the change, doll." He hummed, standing from the stool and sliding an old receipt toward you as well.
You opened your mouth to speak but he had already walked away, and was heading out of the bar with the group of men he had come in with.
You took the money and the receipt. It had a number written on it. As if in a hurry.
You fell into the seat of your car and pulled your phone out.
[You: you gave me your number but didn't leave a name.]
You stared down at your phone, wondering if he would...
[unknown: let me take you out on a date Wednesday night and I'll give you a name. Goodnight, doll.]
[You: deal. Goodnight, mysterious nobody.]

LOCATION: The Vale, Las Vegas, NV. TIME: 5:30PM
“The plan is simple,” Dom began. “My father is currently taking care of the spies that reside with Cersei. I suspect she may notice a few of her servants gone, but it’s not like she cared about them anyways. What we need to worry about is the spies in the Vale.”
Domeric and you arrived in an Uber together. You held each other’s hands and laughed with your driver. You both gave him the impression that you were on a honeymoon. Your driver smiled and wished you both a wonderful time. You left the car and watched it leave you behind.
“As far as we know, Brad has rallied up most of the spies inside the Vale. He’s met up with Petyr in a private meeting. They must be working together. He could be providing the spies with some kind of protection, or maybe it’s the way other way around. Either way, we’re going into heavily guarded territory.”
Before you both head inside, Domeric presses a device against his ear. It beeps twice. He nods to you. You repeat the same motion. You heard two pitched beeps in your ear. You let down your hair to cover the secret device.
“Charlotte and Yellow will be our eyes and ears in the Vale. All IT will follow their orders and give direction to everyone else.”
Charlotte saw your markers on a pawn’s screen.
“They’re live and inside. I repeat TrueBorn and PrettyBird are inside,” Charlotte spoke into her microphone. Yellow Dick nodded. He’s surrounded by screens displaying all of the cameras in the Vale. One flickered to just outside the entrance showing Domeric and you together.
“It’s time people!” Yellow announced. The rest of the IT pawns stared at their screens, furiously hacking and typing away, making sure everything and everyone is in place. Pawns muttered into their mics telling where the rest of the Red Kings to go.
“Most IT will tell where and when the Red Kings to go. We need to take out as many Lannister spies as we can, but we have to be smart about this. Since the purple wedding, Lysa has hired extra security to keep her guests, famous or not, safe. No matter what we cannot get caught.”
“Hemp, there’s one of them on Level Five going into the men’s bathroom. You have a chance in there,” said one of the pawns. Hemp nodded and followed the blonde-haired spy into the men’s bathroom. No one else was inside. Hemp took a silencer and connected it to his gun.
Seconds later, the blonde-haired spy lay on the floor bleeding from the back of his head. Life slowly fading from his eyes before he could unzip his pants.
“Confirmed kill,” Hemp’s deep voice came over the radio.
“Of course, Brad is part our top kills tonight. We need to locate him and capture him. That’s it. No one is to touch him. That’s my brother’s personal target.”
A motorcycle engine stopped. A pair of boots walked towards a building close proximity to the Vale. He was armed with guns, knives, and his bare hands. Other pairs of boots followed him. Each had their nicknames on their jackets. “Bones”, “Grunt”, and “Sour Mouth”.
The first pair of boots reached the entrance of the building. His hands loaded his first pistol. His breath was heavy. His nostrils flared and his eyes were focused. His jacket read “Bastard King”.
He was there. He was ready.
“However, our main targets are Petyr Baelish and Lysa Arryn. Y/N and I will head into the Vale in disguise. Since Y/N knows where she’s going, I suspect she will know where Petyr is. If we find Petyr, we find Lysa.”
Domeric and you entered the casino and resort. It was crawling with tourists, employees, and security. Before you could enter like the other guests, you entered into a queue where everyone needed to have their belongings and their person checked for weapons. You started to sweat.
“I will be escorting Y/N into the building, and three other high ranking Red Kings will follow us. We need to make sure Y/N gets to Petyr and Lysa because she will be carrying mercury. I suspect they will have security checking every person who enters. She and I will act as a newly married couple. Security won’t take us seriously, so we’ll pass. Once we pass, so does the mercury.”
Dom and you reach the front of the queue. You kiss him on the lips and giggle, hiding your nervousness of carrying a lethal poison. The security guard winks at Dom and lightly checks your bags and your person. He didn’t check your bra where the poison was hiding.
You and Dom pass by security and you lead the way to Petyr’s office where he would no doubt be up to something.
“We will be using mercury to take them both out. When Y/N reaches Petyr and Lysa, we will have them inhale the mercury, thus killing them. Once we kill them both, we leave. No bullshitting around.”
Charlotte stares at the screen watching your every move. Her eyes go from screen to screen keeping an eye out for anything.
“You jealous?” Yellow asked.
“No, why would I be jealous?” her eyes never straying from both of you.
“She kissed him. Y/N kissed him right on the mouth, and it looked like he enjoyed it,” Yellow smugly smiled.
“Good. It convinced the lazy security guard,” Charlotte pressed a button and it switched to a Red King deposing a body. “I’m not jealous of Y/N.”
“She’s pretty,” Yellow teased.
“She is, but she doesn’t love Domeric,” Charlotte switched back to you and Domeric rushing to an elevator. You pressed one of the higher floors. “She’s in love with someone else.”
The elevator smelled of alcohol as per usual. You looked to Domeric, feeling the exact same as you when Ramsay took you along for his first hit.
“You’re doing great,” Domeric smiled. “Are you sure he’s in his office?”
“That’s where he does his scheming. He can watch over everyone from there. And if your spies are correct, he will most likely signing endless amounts of paperwork tying him to this property and any of Lysa’s assets.”
The doors opened, and you immediately felt a hand hit your head and cover your mouth. Your head rung in pain, sending you back. You felt tape go over your mouth fast. Your e/c eyes looked over to see Domeric struggling against two stronger men.
“You’re coming with me,” your attacker grunted. Before he blindfolded you, Domeric was punched and knocked out. His attackers dragged him away before any of you could do anything about it. The cloth went over your eyes, and you felt being dragged away.
You were getting used to this feeling. Damn Boltons.
The attacker took you a room. That you were sure of. The room was temperature controlled and no one else was there. He sat you in a chair where he tied your hands together in front of you. Your ankles were tied to the chair as well, and that same rope was wrapped around your torso and the back of the chair.
You tried listening around for any other clue to where you were. You only heard echoes. Nothing else was in the room. Just you, your attacker, and the chair. This was planned out. Either Petyr knew you were coming or Petyr had been watching you this entire time. You couldn’t decide what was scarier.
The attacker left the room without any word of goodbye. The door slammed behind him leaving you alone in the room.
But you had hope. Ramsay was coming for you. He was bringing all of his men with him. He coming to save you. He told you that. He promised you that.
Then you thought of what happened. How Brad mocked and laughed at you when you looked to the door. Ramsay didn’t come then. What if he didn’t come now?
The bad thoughts started to flood in.
What if Ramsay wasn’t coming for you? What if his word meant nothing? Where had he been this entire time? Why didn’t he try to call you? Why didn’t he try at all? Where had he been? Did he even care about you? Did he care at all? Where was he?
Where was he?
You listened to the door hoping for something or someone. You couldn’t scream. You couldn’t move much. The only thing you saw was the darkness of the blindfold. Not much to work with, but you did have your hands in front of you.
You started to feel around the knots and rope. You tugged and the rope connected to your ankles tightened. This was one long rope. You nodded your head, commending your attacker making efficient use of one long rope. You had to find one end of the rope. Once you did, you could untangle yourself from this.
You felt your phone vibrate in your jeans. Your phone. Your fingers tried to reach your pocket as your phone still vibrated. The tension and restricted movement prevented you from reaching anything more than an inch away from you.
You tried again. You’re not going to let this stop you. You had gotten this far. Your hand reached as far as it could.
You heard the door creak slowly open. A pair of feet walked across the room to you in silence. You sat straight up, but you felt chills run up your spine as if Death himself had walked into your presence.
“Well, well, well,” you could hear Brad’s disgusting smile in your ear. “Who do we have here?”

Why was Ned never betrothed to anyone in his youth? + Who would have been a potential match for him, had Rickard and Brandon lived as they expected to?
Well, Ned was only about 18 as of the Tourney at Harrenhal, and men in Westeros often marry much later than girls. (Who may marry after flowering, but far more typically near adulthood at 16.) With Brandon and Lyanna betrothed south, Rickard was probably holding out for something else with Ned… possibly another southern match, if the Southron Ambitions theory is correct. Or possibly Rickard was considering a northern match for Ned, to mollify his bannermen who would have been expecting a Stark for one of their children. (Such as Lord Rodrick Ryswell, who pretty much threw his daughter Barbrey at Brandon, and tried for Ned too.) A second son isn’t as prestigious as the next lord or only daughter, but any Stark is nothing to turn up your nose at. Either way, most likely Rickard was judging all the options, waiting for feedback from his bannermen after Brandon and Lyanna’s weddings, waiting to see how things were going with Mad King Aerys, before deciding to do anything definite with Ned.
So, of southern ladies, there’s lots of possibilities. To match the Stark connections to the Riverlands and Stormlands, a Vale lady could be an option, maybe a Royce or a distant cousin via Jocelyn Stark (Waynwood, Corbray, or Templeton), though Ned’s fostering with Jon Arryn was probably alliance enough. For Dorne, @goodqueenaly has a great post about the pros/cons re a marriage to Ashara Dayne re Southron Ambitions, which would apply to other Dornish bannermen too. The Westerlands were being handled by the Tullys at the time, and Tywin would have said hell no for Cersei anyway, and any other house there wouldn’t have been much use. And if SA was trying to reach out to the Reach too, there’s Janna or Mina Tyrell, or maybe a Hightower girl (though not Alerie, she was already married).
But if Rickard was planning on keeping Ned in the North, for balance and bannermen-sweetening (which Barbrey thinks unlikely, but y’know she is slightly paranoid), there’s quite a few northern ladies to list. Though first I should note that Rickard might have considered Barbrey Ryswell damaged goods because of Brandon, and if so it’s possible there weren’t any other sufficiently highborn northern ladies who’d flowered yet, which could also be why there hadn’t been any betrothals made. For example, Sybelle Locke (now Glover) has rather young children now, so it’s probable she would have been way too young at the time. Berena Hornwood’s eldest child was born c.285, so she’s probably a little closer to the right age, but perhaps was still too young for marriage or betrothal back then. Donella Manderly would certainly have been old enough (if not too old), but was probably already married or betrothed to Halys Hornwood. Jonelle Cerwyn would actually have been just the right age (14, in 281) for betrothal at least, though she’s “plump and homely so maybe Rickard thought she wasn’t good enough. And Bethany Ryswell was also married already (Domeric Bolton was born c.281 or before that), as was the unnamed Glover girl (married to Jorah Mormont). After them… um… Leona Woolfield (now Manderly)? Nope, the Woolfields are likely sworn to the Manderlys, and therefore not a house high enough for Ned, or for Rickard’s plans rather. Jyana Reed (whatever her maiden name might be) would also likely be not quite highborn enough as she’s a crannogwoman from a house sworn to the Reeds. And, well, that’s it for named Northern ladies – there would have been others, I’m sure, in the mountain clans and in the rest of the North, but I don’t know their names so I can’t judge their matchability.
Anyway, there’s a nice list of possibilities for Ned for you. Hope that helps!
