Green Lantern May Not Debut Until Justice League 2, Plus More DCEU Teases
Tumblr media
WARNING: Potential spoilers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
It wasn’t that long ago that Warner Bros. planted a flag in the future and said they were ready to put the entire DC Universe on the big screen, and they continue to make strides toward that dream. One hiccup fans noticed, however, was the first concept art for Justice League which featured most of the heroes but had one notable absence – Green Lantern. Now it seems that the character won’t appear in the 2017 film at all and may not appear until its 2019 sequel, if not later.
“Every beat of the movie is not yet worked out,” producer Charles Roven tells EW. “So there’s the possibility that he may or may not be in Justice League 2. For now, we felt that we were introducing enough characters that the best possible place we could put Green Lantern is some introduction in Justice League 2, or barring that, a movie after.”
Greg Silverman, the president of creative development and worldwide production at Warner Bros. added that fans should be patient and that the wait will be worth it.
“[Green Lantern] is an incredible character. He’s actually multiple incredible characters. There’s real opportunity there. We didn’t do a great job on that first Green Lantern movie. This is a character who deserves to be treated in the same way that Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman are being treated now, which is with great reverence. I guess I can say to the Green Lantern fans: if they can be patient with us, I think they’ll be really happy.”
EW goes on to offer some more details for the DCEU including confirming that the upcoming Suicide Squad takes place after the events of Batman v Superman, contrary to previous rumors; and that 2017’s Wonder Woman will feature “present day” scenes at the start and end of the film.
Some new details on the “Dawn of Justice” were revealed (again, spoiler warning) including that Jena Malone’s “secret character” in the film was cut out of the theatrical version, but will be present for the extended R-Rated cut.
In addition, the outlet confirms that dream sequences for both Batman and Superman will be laced throughout the movie which many have previously suspected with the film’s Darkseid teases. The potentially spoilery thing, however, is that the outlet teases the tyrant of Apokolips may be making an appearance in the film.
Another dream sequence they report will be in the film sees Ezra Miller’s version of The Flash delivering a message to Batman, but it will be ambiguous as to if the scene is in fact a dream or if Barry Allen has traveled back in time to bring a warning. Zack Snyder calls the scene “a giant Easter egg” for fans, saying:
“We had such a straightforward narrative, on one hand, I wanted this other layer of the movie to be complicated and bizarre.”

Ben Affleck Starring in and Directing Solo ‘Batman’ Film, Geoff Johns Writing
The Warner Bros. panel doesn’t begin at Comic Con until Saturday morning, but big news has already hit. Ben Affleck will star in a solo Batman film to follow the Justice League movies, and he’ll also direct the movie. The film will follow Affleck’s Live By Night adaptation, which was just formally set by Warner Bros. this week.
Deadline reports, and Affleck’s involvement seems to be even deeper than starring and directing. He’ll also co-write withGeoff Johns.
