Went down an internet rabbit hole while doing homework and now I'm reading about how Confucius inspired Chinese scientists to cure leukemia.

"The translation of the essence of Confucius' philosophy into cancer therapy could be, if cancer cells are considered elements with 'bad' social behavior in our body, 'educating' rather than killing these elements might represent a much better solution."

Don't kill cancer cells. Teach them not to be cancer (by giving them a drug that restores their normal progression)! I love it. And they figured it out and turned a disease that kills people within 1 month into a disease that's easily curable with 1 month of oral meds.

#I'm not crying about the paragraph of the 5 year old who was on death's door and was the first person to try this drug #and then went on to be a healthy 26 year old at time of publication in 2008 you're crying #every single cancer type is its own complicated disease and most of the time we do need to kill the cancer cells #but what a cool puzzle these scientists put together #makes you think about all the crazy and seemingly simple but random cures for things that are out there that we haven't connected the dots #for yet #but we will!#I have hope in a star trek-like future #this cure by the way is just...tretinoin #you know the acne stuff #amazing #cancer research
