The pets head lolls back against it's owners chest, it's heart beating ten to the dozen, almost bursting through their ribcage. Whumper lets out a low hum, nuzzling the tip of their nose into the dip of the pets collarbone, arms hooked tight around it's belly.

A theme I don't think gets discussed a lot when The LEGO Movie comes up is how Emmett's character growth is directly tied to his reliance on the instructions. At the beginning of the movie, he's basically a nobody who carries his instructions around like a 6-year-old carries a favorite stuffed tiger. Nobody Else Carries Them Like That.™

Then we see him make what is possibly the first decision against what the instructions say to do (not that he could see them on the floor saying Do Not Touch Strange Pieces), and suddenly he's thrust into the world of the Master Builders and the machinations of Lord Business. He tries to do what others tell him to do - surely that's the same as instructions? - and absolutely flounders at it, only coming up with Ideas That Are So Bad And Dumb That No One Could Possibly Think They Are Useful. He fails to notice that he has a tracking device on his foot, leading to all the Master Builders but the core cast (and a few others) getting captured.

But just when things look like they're at Rock Bottom - the sub destroyed, the crew approaching Octan Tower, and not a plan to speak of - that's when the spark begins to ignite and Emmett Makes His Own Instructions. (We don't ask where he got the Octan Spaceship instructions.) He comes up with a plan that, were it not for a computer undermining the commands issued to it, Came Closer Than Any Of Us To Saving The Universe, and inspired Wildstyle Lucy to realize that maybe, just maybe, the average person Has The Potential To Be A Groundbreaker... Literally.

And then we cut to the Real World. Things are looking bleak as This Rebellion Ends Right Now. And when all seems lost, Emmett gets sent through the Magic Portal and Sees Everything. No need for instructions - he is a Master Builder.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

Here’s my take on the whole audio books vs. reading:

Oral tradition of storytelling predates written ones by millennias, and honestly, which one you like is just a personal preference.

The actual difference is

when listening, you have no idea how to write characters’ names

when reading, you have no idea how to pronounce characters’ names
