specifically just thinking about the implications of tsaritsa's ideals originally being about love + the abandonment of those ideals to complete her goal of, presumably, destroying Celestia or whatever she's cooking up. to the point even her people don't love her and I probably don't even remember a time her ideals were of love. now it's all just ice and snow and cold.

which makes romantic fics w her even funnier because she's purposely removed this part of herself and suddenly reader walks into teyvat like they own the place (they do) and I can only imagine her reaction. angry, probably. because why you? what are you doing to her that's caused her hundreds of years of strict adherence to rejecting "love" both from others and to others to just. collapse. absolute shattering of her world and you probably don't even know it bc if nothing else she's good at hiding it. a lot of denial. tries to pick you apart and see what's makes you so different.

and oh she just hates it. she loathes it.

One worldbuilding detail Soul Eater really had going for it was the way they explained everyone having weird, unique and horror-movie inspired names such as Soul Eater, Black*Star, Franken Stein.

The school all these kids attend allows them to sign up with any name they want and to change their names once every six months.

You better believe if I were a thirteen year old with the ability to turn into a scythe and eat monster souls I'd call myself Soul Eater too. "But isn't his original name 'Soul Evans'? That's already a weird first name." He's from a family of musicians. He probably has a cousin called R'n'B.

It also made for the very nice touches in charaterisation where you'd see a character calling himself "Ox Ford" and knew immediately which brand of arrogant, insufferable child-prodigy this guy represented and you'd be absolutely right. Why is there a girl who can turn into a lantern who's name is "Jackie O'Lantern"? Because she's the funniest teenager on the squad.

Shoutout to Maka Albarn for taking her education so seriously she decided to not get herself a fun name, and to Justin Law, who let's say, subverted expectations.

It also just makes total sense for their wacky and non-conforming headmaster to not give a shit about names, or birth names, or gender norms. Death said trans rights, yo.

See this is the other thing that undoes the Cardcaptor Sakura dance - I don’t think CLAMP would write that Cardcaptor Sakura was murdered. It’s just a bit dark for what the series is.

OH, poor Watanuki. 

He doesn’t properly remember but on some level he blamed his own existence for the death of his parents, and felt that he didn’t deserve to live after that. That explains a lot about the version of Watanuki that Doumeki saw in the past - he wasn’t just alone, he was alone and genuinely thought he didn’t want to be alive anymore, because of what his existence has caused. 

It’s so heartbreaking I don’t even know what to say about that. 

Except that the difference lies in the detail of him being so attractive to spirits because of all the dark hurt inside him. When we first meet Watanuki he is hounded by spirits, even without his memory, because his body remembers and his heart is still broken he becomes self-sacrificing as a result. 

UNTIL things start to change. We heard in the previous chapters that Watanuki doesn’t see spirits like that as much anymore. He has begun to heal. He isn't alone anymore. He doesn't think he would be better off never existing, and knows that there are people who are happier now that he exists.

Watanuki has decided to keep living, and so the pain the spirits found so delicious is nowhere near as strong as it was before.  It’s so interesting to me that his character arc matches the supernatural arc around his existence. ‘He wasn’t supposed to exist and was meant to disappear��� becomes ‘he has a place he is loved and that sustains him’ - and ‘he wanted to die from guilt’ becomes ‘he wants to live for the people he loves now’. It’s a wonderful parallel arc that you can’t even spot happening until afterwards, because even Watanuki himself doesn’t know it's happening.

This is because King is derived from Queen, due to their similar positions in a colony, and Queen-Alate is derived from Drone, as both are forms of alate.

Queen is an alteration of feminine grammar that functionally just adds a handful of extra syllables to it, and King is an offsprout of Queen that uses the same grammar with different pronouns. Queen-Alate, despite the name, is derived from Drone, as they are both for referring to different types of alate ant.

Most Roach dialects are intelligible to speakers of Snakemouth Den Cordyceps Roach, but Snakemouth Den Cordyceps Roach is not entirely intelligable to speakers of Roach dialects due to a mix of the excessively specialized vocabulary caused by the specific needs of its speakers, the fact that its speakers do not necessarily have Roach mouthparts and thus may not pronounce syllables in a similar way, and due to the fact that Inanimate Object is a full grammatical gender that does not exist in any other dialect of roach and replaces a decent chunk of terminology for things that previously had Other Words For Them.
