Elven tattoo headcanons

I think tattoos will never be fully permanent for elves, they fade every hundred years, maybe they'll last a few hundred if your ink is of the highest quality & your tattoo artist is exceptional. It's not a flaw with the tattoos that they're never permanent permanent, elven biology just doesn't allow for it.

Miriel, being brilliant with a needle as ever & Finwe, who was a patron of the arts, invented tattoos in Cuiviénen.

Most of the Minyar weren't so fond of them but they were appreciated by several of the Tatyar & Nelyar.

It started out as Finwe just… painting on himself & his GF because why not? He started out using henna commonly used by his friend Elwe & the Teleri but he liked color so then he & Miriel decided to be ✨experimental✨ & *boom* tattoos! He developed the ink & she learned how to work a needle in skin.

Finwe has one on his back that Miriel did right before she got pregnant with Feanor that he never let anyone touch it up after she died even though it was fading, until Feanor got older and asked for his dad’s permission to do it himself.

Miriel used to have a tattoo on her back as well like Finwe’s but she didn’t get it redone after getting reembodied. She also used to have a few on her arms and legs and was overall quite bohemian before what happened, happened. She doesn’t regret co-creating tattoos but they don’t fit her anymore.

Feanor has 1 segmented tattoo along his collarbone. He has 2 stars about an inch tall/wide closest to his heart representing his parents, a slightly smaller but almost as big one near them representing himself, and seven even smaller ones trailing his left collarbone representing his sons.

Nerdanel doesn’t have tattoos, she’s chill if her kids want them but they’re personally not for her.

Fingolfin doesn’t have any for several reasons, they don’t fit him, he’s half Vanya & they’re not really into tattoos, & they were partially invented by Feanor’s mother so it’s weird. Findis doesn’t have any for the same reasons.

Finarfin despite also being half Vanya & closer to that side of his family than Fingolfin, is actually open to them despite not having any yet. He just does not gaf about what other people think.

Earwen has a ton of aesthetically pleasing sea themed motifs on her body.

Fingon has an eagle tattoo.

Maedhros has the star of Feanor tattooed on him but that’s it.

Maglor has a bunch of well put together gorgeous tattoos including both music motifs and symbols honoring his family like the Feanorian star and something for Elrond & Elros as well. They fade after he starts wandering the shores but he gets most of them redone in Valinor.

Celegorm used to have tattoos symbolizing Orome’s hunt but he lets all of them fade away in middle earth. If he ever joined the hunt again after getting reembodied, I imagine he only ever got 1 more tattoo symbolizing Orome. He’s accepted a part of his old life again but it’s not going to be the same.

Aredhel has a bow & arrow tattoo.

Curufin also has the star the Feanor & that’s it.

Caranthir used to have some in the equivalent of his teenage years but cringes looking back at them. They didn’t actually look bad at all and were quite nice but he just gives off the impression of someone who’d be unimpressed with his old self. He has none now.

Amrod & Amras get whatever they’re feeling whenever they’re feeling and change up their tattoos every couple centuries.

Galadriel has none because she thinks Feanor would feel smug if she did get them & she can’t let him be satisfied. (She loves henna though!)

Finrod has a bunch of different motifs representing all 3 of the clans that make up his heritage.

I used to be way more of a doormat and appeasing because I was raised to be polite, but after enough people taking advantage of that, by college I was like “I’m really done wasting my time enabling horrible behavior. Look, bud, you now get the same level of thoughtfulness/tact/politeness as you give—ima mirror whatever approach you come at me with, because I don’t have the energy to put 110% into a relationship while you give 40 anymore” and it’s so funny that like without fail the kind of people you’ll show your favorite movie to super excited who will then go “Eh I didn’t really like it it was kinda boring” or be even worse instead of like, saying nothing, or finding a polite thing to say, are sooo shocked when you just honestly tell them what you think of stuff they share back.

Like it’s almost uproariously funny. One dude was like “I’m gonna make fun of you & your taste & fave game for reccing it to me since you liked it so much yourself, bc while I haven’t even touched this video game personally, I watched a game sins video on it one time, so I have a PHD in knowing it has no redeeming qualities,” and then was just offended out of his head at how hurtful I was for when he wanted me to watch a show he liked and I was like “Thanks for thinking of me, but I know the MC from the show this is a spinoff of, and find her impossibly obnoxious, and I just don’t think the story would be worth it to me,” like just couldn’t believe I’d be so tactless. I really think someone whose very bubbly and hyper would make him a little flustered because he doesn’t want to bore her by doing the things he likes, and he wouldn’t know how to keep up with her energy. soobin likes to read books, watch tv shows and eat. he likes to eat bread and ice cream all day. he doesn’t like moving. so someone whose moving and doing a whole lot of shit constantly is going to tire him out LMAO. I also think since soobin is a little messy he needs a motherly type of girl that can help him with his habits. with soobin you’ll basically be a mom, leading the relationship and cleaning after him occasionally. I also think soobin would love someone who is romantic and is sensitive when it comes to him. he loves feeling loved and cared about and knowing that there’s someone who got his back through anything and everything. he’s very affectionate and light hearted so he needs someone who isn’t mean lmao!! he doesn’t like a whole lot of roast sessions and things like that and even if he does don’t go overboard with him because he’ll get sensitive asf. 

--- as far as body type goes i feel like soobin doesn’t care. honestly. he’s really big so no matter what you’ll always be smaller than him even if you’re a little thick lmao. if you guys would like to know whether or not soob is an ass or boobs type of guy though i think he’s both. some boobs with a little ass would fluster him. all the way. he doesn’t expect much but if you’re well endowed in either, he’s going to be really touchy (with permission of course) and he’ll always make you feel comfortable in your own body. 

yeonjun; -- oh god, this boy. nah jk. i honestly think yeonjun needs someone who creative and can introduce him to new things. since he really loves music and stuff I think he would love someone who can introduce him to different types of music. he’d love stuff like his s/o making playlists for him and sending him new songs randomly. i also think since yeonjun is a big foodie he would loooveee a girl with an appetite lmao! he would love her even more if she can cook the food he likes, or cook good food in general. he would really love someone who can introduce him to new kinds of of food and feed him when he’s hungry. whether it’s spoon fed or just dropping by some food to the studio for him when it’s lunch time. despite his stage presence i think he’d love someone who is sweet and easy going. outgoing as well! since he’s very shy and timid around new people he would LOVE if his s/o approaches him first. although he’s more of the lead in the relationship, i think he would love if his s/o knows how to lead as well especially when he’s feeling needy and needs affection. he doesn’t want a girl that let’s him lead ALL the time and let’s him put in 80% while they put in 20%. he wants it to be 50/50 at least.  since he’s the oldest in the group it’s likely that he’s always taking care of the members so he needs someone who is willing to take care of him. he would also LOVE a funny girl omg. if you can make him laugh you automatically have his heart. he would love having a girl that’s also his best friend, one whom he can make inside jokes with. he would also love a stylish girl! i think if you dress well it would be easier for him to notice you since he’s very fashionable himself. he’d also never take his eyes off of you and remind you about how good you look everyday.  with that being said he would love a girl he can go shopping with! that can buy him cute shirts and clothes that matches his style. he would love it even more if you introduce him to a new kind of style. he would love dressing up and going on random dates and taking lots of pics! 

- as far as body type goes i think yeonjun would be attracted to curvier girls. he just gives me that vibe. of course he’d be attracted to any type of body type,  but i think curvy is more his thing. if you’re wondering whether he is an ass or boob type of guy i think yeonjun is an ass and thigh type. so if you’re thicker around that area expect yeonjun to be all over you. LMAO (with permission of course). 

beomgyu;  -- gyuuuuu! okay so in my opinion gyu doesn’t really have an ideal type. he’s the type of guy where it’s like, if he likes you he likes you and if he doesn’t he doesn’t. as long as you know how to treat him and like having fun with him he’d love you! in all honesty i think beomgyu is a free spirit. he likes all types of girls in every size, shape or color. he doesn’t have a preference.  just be yourself and don’t try to act too show-offy in front of him. i lowkey think beomgyu would like a motherly type of girl though and someone who is just as hyper as he is. since beomgyu is a mama’s boy he needs a girl that treats him like he’s her son LMAO but also let him be an adult too. like don’t baby him all the way but take care of him and check up on him often. he’d also love a clingy s/o. one who texts him and calls just to tell him how much they miss him. affection is key with gyu! if he can lay on your chest or cuddle with you all the time he will fall in love with you. i repeat HE WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH YOU. hold his hand, kiss his cheeks and play wrestle with him. also, build a relationship with his mother! i think gyu would love someone whose close to his mom. of course don’t be a creep but make sure you aren’t a stranger to her. since gyu is family oriented when it comes to his parents i think he would really appreciate if you took the extra mile and got to know his family. he’d love taking you to daegu to spend the holidays with his family and have fun eating and making jokes with them.

taehyun;  -- (my MANNNN- i mean ahem) okay so, tyun is tricky af but I pay special attention to him because of this reason. in all honesty i think tyun LOVES the game of hard to get. he likes feeling like he got it in the bag with you, but he doesn’t at the same time. he would love a girl who is very confident, smart,  and can adhere to his mind games.  reverse psychology would have him SHOOK lmao! initially i think if tyun saw a girl he likes he would make it known he likes her just by doing little stuff like being nice to her or smiling at her and stuff. he would like it if she does it back too, but not becoming too engaged. i think his whole relationship would be him and his s/o playing hard to get. the both of them know they love one another and are very affectionate but they’re also a little mean to each other as well. cracking jokes every now and again and play wrestling. don’t take it too far though! he wouldn’t like if you gave him so much cold shoulder to the point where he thinks you no longer like him. tease him a bit though, he likes feeling like he’s still trying to win your heart.  he would love a girl who is funny too and who is intelligent enough to have educational conversations if it ever came up. he’d love if his s/o does crazy shit just to make him laugh. i think he would also like someone with a slick mouth! lmaoooooo. i’m sorry but he does. tyun has a smart mouth himself so someone who can match his energy would definitely win him over. take care of him though! even though tyun claims he doesn’t love affection but he loves if his s/o kisses him all the time and cuddles him. tyun is lowkey very clingy so he’d hate to be by himself when on tours and things like that. he would love feeling like he’s needed and cared about! he would also like someone whose very thoughtful, like buying him things that reminds you of him.

heuning kai; --- kaiiiii<33 in my opinion i don’t think kai has a type either. he goes with the flow really, but if you happen to joke and play with him alot he’d fall in love with you. i think kai is very quick so it doesn’t take much for him to fall in love with someone. he is the type to be a little hesitant about his feelings though. i think kai would love a girl who is just like him. who is hyper at times but knows when to be chill. Also “I search for AA and see only Snow”, how is that not a red flag? Didn’t you think that it could be about Ramsay hiding Theon? See, I feel like jen comes from a family that spoils her where her parents did everything and took care of everything for her. She had the privilege and didn’t have to work too hard to get things she wanted so that made her a little bit different than a few of her friends, hell—even her bf

Didn’t have to work until she reached her twenties

She also didn’t have too many friends because her parents felt like her cousins and/or her sibs were really only allowed to hold that title

However her parents had some sort of a soft spot for her when they allowed her to date her bf at 14 since he came from a nice background...

And to have at least 1-2 best friends...

I can’t decide if I see her having 3 other sibs with her being the second eldest, or her being the eldest with a younger sister? I can also see her being a only child too? Idk y’all can decide

Because her family is a tight knit one, she values everything they say and do...which is canon/evident

She got her thigh tattoo in Paris and even thought about asking her parents permission but her bf talked her out of it

she later showed them that night while he was in the shower. Her mother openly disapproved saying it was, “unladylike or unclean” while her father was more lenient towards it 

Her mother even scheduled her for laser appointments but this was one of the things jen was sure of, she loved her tattoo and she didn’t want to erase it from her body which led to her mother not speaking to her for about a month—even tho they live in the same household

Got into fashion due to her maternal grandmother who seemed to live a extravagant life as a old time actress, she always had and owned the finest of things

Jen loved having sleepovers there, it felt like she had her own personal Liz Taylor inside of her nan...but better!

she had no clue what she wanted to do in life (she never had to think too hard about it until now, it’s true what they say about your twenties) and she made the choice not to continue thru with uni & I’m not going to make her out to be the stereotypical “dumb blonde” I think she did well in school—so she kinda just chilled after it was all over

Her first job at 20 was probably working in retail where she learned all about the bs you put up with but she loved clothes! That never changed

So she decided 6 months into her job that she was going to make a fashion blog

she made one separate from her tumblr but kept it under construction since she needed to brain storm what exactly this blog would entail

It didn’t take too long to her to figure it out by how she wanted the blog to look then discussing pieces from celebs/models then slowly discussing her own wardrobe + advice

She didn’t immediately gain success for it —altho she did have a good 1k people follow her thru her tumblr where she also provided the link to her separate blog... but she worked/works hard at it, hoping one day it’ll get her somewhere and that maybe she can get paid for it too?

Retail fucking sucks and people are horrible twats so when she was approaching 21 she deff quit with her parents still hammering...more so her dad on what she needs to do with her life but she found happiness in her blog and no one was going to take that away from her —not even her parents

I got so hyped for parts of TFA and towards the end really enjoyed it immensely but I still feel really cheated that the beginning was so rushed. It would’ve been so easy for them to just take five extra seconds to really sink the hook into me for each of the characters from the start, but it feels like if anything was originally there it got chopped out in favor of faster, faster editing or maybe they completely forgot to put it in there to start with.

Like, what makes me a little mad is that the stuff I wanted, actually was in the film, but way later, like I expected. Like, the fact that Finn was abducted, trained all his life as a trooper, and that was the first battle he’d ever seen. If they’d taken literally a second to drop that info right at the start. And I really think that Poe should’ve actually questioned Finn and his intentions for 2 freaking seconds when they first met, bc the convo they did have... doesn’t cut it for me. Poe is the best pilot for the Resistance, he’s just been tortured for info, and he doesn’t even think that a storm trooper conveniently trying to help him out isn’t a little suspicious? It could’ve easily been a trick?? Hell, even if they had Finn, while in the tie fighter, go, ‘why do you trust me?’ and have Poe spout some sympathetic understanding for storm troopers, that would’ve helped a lot. As much as I super love Poe and Finn becoming such fast friends, their limited interaction lacked the appropriate depth, and not necessarily for lack of time together but lack of just, realistic or proper communication. Literally five, ten seconds and some extra questions and answers, like what I suspected and Phasma later said, Finn was going to be reconditioned, which is probably an awful experience, so fuck yeah he wanted to get out of there right then. I was so on board and SHOOK by Finn’s first scenes, seeing a trooper die in front of him, the blood smeared across his helm, the way he hesitated, the way he tried to follow the motions but couldn’t shoot the innocent villagers, I was. so. there. but then they just rushed everything so fast and didn’t give proper dialogue to bring it home. Like yes we can infer what’s going on, yes we can find out about it in retrospect but in this circumstance it’s not the same? Especially since it makes no sense for Poe to trust him, knowing how awful the New Order is, and not getting any like.. convincing... thing out of Finn. No, ‘I need to leave, they’ll recondition me’ just hey buddy let’s run off together! Sure I suddenly trust you there’s no way this could stab me in the back or put the entire Resistance in jeopardy!

Like. I wanna have fun so badly but just take the extra five seconds to let me??? Especially since later on when they reuinite like... I so want that to be a 150% awesome moment and believe in their deep friendship BUT THEY HAD NOTHING TO BOND OVER? LIKE? POE 100% TRUSTED HIM FROM THE START (BUT FOR NO REASON) AND LUCKILY FIN WAS ACTUALLY A NICE GUY? THE FUCK? Don’t cheat me, JJ Abrams.

The other thing that bugged me was, when Rey and BB8 first crossed paths, I was so confused by the entire interaction. She saved him from tha alienn guy, but that whole interaction made it seem like she knew BB8, hence going straight to his rescue, and knew what the alien was doing, bc it’s something that has happened more than once already. Like, as if BB8 had been with Rey for a while, and she had to keep trying to get that little guy from scraping him. Which I was 100% cool with and then realized, uh, no, she has no idea who BB8 is. Only later it’s made clear that droids are basically treated like people .. or at least Rey and others treats droids like they are free and sentient people, I suppose sleezy scrappers might not. But it’s just... very bizarre, I don’t know. If they’d somehow made that sentiment clear, hat Rey considered BB8 their own person, then maybe that would’ve cleared some things up. Because honestly once I was like, “ok so they DON’T know each other” I was like “so why is that little alien taking shit from her? That droid could be sold for a lot of money.” It’d make more sense for her to be like, this is my turf, my droid! That or, ‘droids are not property, leave it alone.’

Like.. idk, stop leaving me confused for so long before making it clear later on in the film. It’s not effective storytelling, it’s not an ~intriguing mystery~, especially when there’s SO MUCH MORE PLOT to get to in the movie, it’s just making it harder for me to get on board with the fun because nothing makes sense and these ‘mysteries’ are THINGS THAT WOULD HELP ME CONNECT TO THE CHARACTERS I’M SUPPOSED TO BE CARING ABOUT. I WANT TO. I FUCKING WANT TO CARE ABOUT THEM AND CRY EVERY DAY AND YOU ARE STANDING IN MY WAY, JJ ABRAMS.

Also, I’ve got a lot of ppl on my dash heavily invested into this fandom, especially Hux/Kylo shippers, which is part of why I was so disappointed bc I thought it’d be so much more enjoyable from the start? Like yes it was enjoyable but the beginning had such poor storytelling... anyway, my Kylux shipping friends and fandom at large led me to believe that Kylo Ren was this emo baby who has temper tantrums and cries all the time and is always emotionally unstable and Hux is like his chill 2 cool for school 2nd hand man who has to like, hold Kylo together and take his shit and get the job done while Kylo is like borderline incompetent bc he is so sad and emo and tortured.

Except, the movie is none of that. In fact I had kind of the opposite impression. It’s probably 90% bc Kylo’s face is hidden most of the time, but Hux even from his first lines is acted with this extremely tense, constipated, agitatio like he’s ready to either explore or burst into angry tears at any time. Like, am I the only one who got that from this face? 

it’s like Kylo has his balls in a Force vice grip at all times, I’m serious, I had to just mentally accept that in order to tolerate all of his lines, like, this poor guy, he has to worry about his balls being crushed, I get it now.

Plus there’s this 

Like, you could take that Nazi fervor back a notch, you’re frothing at the mouth ,bud. It doesn’t feel like he’s seriously into it, it seems more like there’s some very painful threat against him if he fails .. like his balls being crushed... off screen (bc I did not catch any threats to him on screen? but even so, like, he should’ve been slightly more chill, then that threat should’ve been made, then he’s like, fuck bro my balls, and the constipated nazi thing would’ve been understandable? idk)

also this all made me remember that I’ve never understood the politics involved in the entire Star Wars series and ... yeah I’m really fucking lost at this point, for sure. and don’t really gaf about the franchise to go watch them all and see if it’ll click for me. More likely I’ll be madder about more dumb shit I never noticed when I first saw these films when I was like, 10. lmao. Altho... my wife Padme... >.>

But yeah like... Kylo gets mad and trashes shit with his lightsaber but that’s cool and also like, I get where his anger and connflict is coming from (tahbnks to FAN META AND NOT THE FUCKING MOVIE) but I don’t get where Hux’s also very visible emotional agitation comes from.

Also, Snokes. I only know Kylo’s backstory so much bc of meta, and they do state the stuff in the film, but it would’ve been nice to bring it together, maybe when Han was trying to talk to him? like, according to fan meta, and Leia, Snokes basically groomed Kylo into the dark side when he was young... Han, come on, there could’ve been a little more said. There’s supposed to be so much weight behind that story but it feels empty when nobody really touches on it as much as they should. Like, I don’t need lengthy exposition, I just need a smidge  more than the bare fucking crumbs you’re giving me. Tho the ‘I’m being torn apart’ thing was nice tbh but without understanding why within the story it still risks just sounding dramatic for no reason. But, we know Kylo was tempted away to the dark side by Snokes, killed a bunch of kiddos, and ..? Basically I guess. He says he feels tempted by the light, his family, but aside from a few shreds that’s kind of all we get. 

Like, idk. There’s so. much. in this film that should be touched on more and given more weight but, instead it’s like nothing ends up feeling impactful. Poe gets tortured, Finn has faced his first battle and was clearly traumatized by it (the acting was greattt even before he took off that helmet wow that’s why I got so disappointed) but there’s no moment to transition, just, HEY PAL, LET’S RUN AWAY TOGETHER, YEE HAW. We can have weighty drama and lighthearted fun for the kids. We can. We really can.

Also, Rey’s abandonment on the planet, only the bit where Kylo is getting into her head cements the fact that she is so lonely and was left behind (also Maz, I love Maz). Also, Han’s death, also the destruction of an entire solar system. It all just felt so rushed, not much was allowed to hold any weight, even stuff I knew was supposed to be important?

Maybe it’s just me though, maybe I’m just really fucking dumb and like things to be clearly spelled out and stated and cemented together but, .. like I said,  I don’t expect exposition, I just expect like, a little moment where maybe Poe is suspicious of Finn, maybe Poe is clearly not okay (post torture and all) but then pulls himself together and is lie, yeah let’s do this, like... let me cry.

The only time I did cry was seeing Carrie fisher appear on screen the first time. AAEAAAUUGGGHHH!!!!!!!! ;;;;;;;;;;;;

Also, what’s up with R2D2 being a convenient asshole who slept for ages apparently and then conveniently wakes back up with the rest of the map they needed after all the fighting is done like... u dickhole.
