hot take but 'rotting' is a fucking horrible way to refer to people who spend a detrimental amount of time physically inactive due to mental illness, and it's even worse with the near-universal connotation of 'this is your fault and you need to scrape your shit together. :/'
i'd say would you imagine calling a person who's bedbound due to chronic pain, fatigue, or mobility issues 'rotting,' except that guess fucking what a lot of us ARE confined to bed beyond that baseline because IT'S A STATE OF AFFAIRS THAT WILL WORSEN YOUR DEPRESSION HORRIBLY.
not to mention there are a lot of people who spend all their time physically inactive because they live in an abusive environment and their room is the only (relatively) safe place they have.
(spoiler alert! this post written by someone who is all three. and who has a high chance of fucking dying because of it, because my body is physically deteriorating as a result of being in this situation. it definitely helps my mental state about this to have people call me 'rotting' and imply it's only happening because i'm not putting in the effort to get better, often while saying it in a mocking tone. 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃)
and like. there are people who very fucking literally rot in bed, as a result of being in bed, usually as a result of lack of resources or neglect from caretakers or both. this is a thing that happens to people and it is a fucking HORRIFIC way to go, it is absolutely gutwrenching to read about and it's not fucking funny and it's not a fucking silly little selfcare meme.
if you come onto this post with 'omg sorry for not making every single post impossible to misinterpret with your personal experiences in mind ' i will fucking bite you. i will BITE you. STOP IT.
#moogletalks#ableism cw#death cw#venting cw#fun hot tip if you talk exactly like my abusive stepdad about my illnesses you can shut the fuck up#forever! never speak again!

🏠 What is the Lair like?
💉 Do any characters get mutated during the main story?
🦹 Who is the main villain?
🐱 Do any of your characters have pets?
hi
Hi omg, Thankyou so much 🥹
1.the lair is pretty elaborate. It’s a huge space that’s cut off from the rest of the sewers via a secret passage.
Takes bits and pieces from the 2012 and 2003 lair.
Their friend April has bought them a ton of furniture and little trinkets for the boys to spruce up the place.
The lair is decorated with fairy lights.
Two levels, level one includes, the kitchen, splinters dojo, Donnie’s lab and a pool. Level two has the boys rooms.
Leo’s room is the tallest, featuring pieces of wood leading all the way up to the ceiling where heat lamps shine down. He likes to lay on the wood and sunbathe. He has a comic book cupboard and a hammock. Little trinkets from various places.
Mikey has the biggest room since he’s a big boy. His bed is flat on the ground with a weighted blanket. His ceiling has heat lamps as well. He has an old tv that sits in the corner, a comic book cupboard and glow in the dark stars that glow at night when the heat lamps are off.
Donnie’s room is cluttered. Filled with random inventions and tons of informational books. He has a random assortment of technology lying around that he takes apart and puts back together in different ways. His bed his plain, but under it is filled with stuffed animals that April used to bring. A reminder that he was once a kid, and didn’t have the burden of leadership.
Raph keeps his room clean, except for his walls, which are covered in chipping paint and holes, from taking out his anger on them instead of his brothers. His bed is small and in the corner. He had a cupboard, with old picture and chapter books, video game cases and a few extra weapons just in case of an emergency. He has a lava lamp sitting on top of the cupboard, watching the lava helps him to calm down.
The dojo is simple and splint into 3 parts. That’s where the weapons are stored along with the turtles gear. Splinter sleeps in a separate part of the dojo and meditates in another part, filled with scented candles, light incense and low light.
2. The kraang have been secretly dumping mutagen into the water system to creat shredders army. His army includes mutant teenagers, same age as the turtles and older.
Including mondo gecko, tiger claw, fishface, rhazar, Venus and jennika.
Shredder uses the mutagen on himself and mutates into a demon like monster, he combines different animal DNA and mutagen and creates a new kind of mutation to himself.
3. Shredder is the main villain, along with the kraang. Shredder was splinters brother (not blood) growing up, he was abused mentally and physically, he was bullied and manipulated by the Hamato clan. Later he fell in love with the same woman as his brother, she loved his brother, and hated him. At this point, everything he experienced during his childhood was bubbling up, into a horrible anger. He found out the truth and killed his master. He killed his brothers lover and fled to America, not that Yoshi knew of his whereabouts.he went to college to study biology and chemistry. He started work as a scientist. He met the kraang in a mentally ill state, and joined forces with them. They created an army of mutants for him (who all started out as children) and provided him with as much mutagen as he needed. He was the face of this mysterious mutagen, and became very rich and famous for it. He transformed himself into a monster, losing his mind in the process. Only having the goal to wipe out the Hamato clan, including his brother.
4. as of right now no, unless you count Leo’s bonsai tree. But if the boys were to come across a stray, they’d definitely pick it up and take it home. But they’ve got a lot on their plate right now, with shredder trying to wipe out their existence and all 🙃
#thanks for the ask!#i really appreciate it#tmnt: Mississippi iteration#tmnt leonardo#tmnt michelangelo#tmnt rapheal#tmnt donnatello#tmnt iteration#alpha answers#Tmnt mutant madhouse

Doctor's orders to pull back from social media as I keep having back to back panic attacks and wanting to kms.
I'm sure there's some folks on my public tumblr accounts that follow me only to get intel on me and not because they actually like me- and would love nothing more than for me to leap off a building. Yeah I'm a flawed person. I hurt a lot of people. I own up to that. I'm trying to be someone that at least tolerates my own existence in this realm. 🙃 but having folks on the Homestuck discord team telling me to "SHUT THE FUCK UP" and "DIE" for expressing a vague, nonconsequential fandom opinion (that wasn't even HS related) they don't like does not paint a good picture of how they'll handle knowing I've tried to kill myself over 8 times now. Bitch I'm like Deadpool the metanarrative will not let me end it. I'd love nothing more than to have never existed. You hate me so much, then fucking ban me from the discord and start your hate campaign like you did to my other trans system friends. Makin, you're pathetic. Just admit you have no compassion for folks with persistent mental health issues rather than acting like it's okay for you to harass people because you're the server administrator. You have enough simps laughing at your cruelty you think you're justified in these harassment campaigns. I don't think I've had a single positive interaction with you, and you can blame me being a 'snowflake' but at least I'm not inciting mentally ill people to kill themselves on your streams. I hope you lose the admin privileges and people realize what an actual asshole you are. I can't help that I have introjects of your friends. Do you think I woke up one day and decided to have amnesiac episodes where some brain ghosts take over my body and humiliate me publicly? That's like, a bit to you? I do have Andrew Hussie listed as an alter in my disability paperwork because they stepped up to stop me from ending things. Our (now) Hussie Royle is the reason we kept fighting to improve and become better people. You can think I'm cringe all you want, but it kept me alive. I can't know what source Hussie thinks of me as I've already attempted to reach out and apologize for crossing boundaries into parasocial delusional stuff. They didn't respond and they don't owe me one. I am, however, knowledgeable about what goes down in Homestuck VRC communities and have been helpful there as an informant and mod. You can dislike me and think I'm annoying and tight wound all you want but I'm not stepping back from my beliefs that people should be given compassion and time to be heard. I'm a socialist and I feel very strongly that we have a duty to protecting our communities and having transparency. Idk what weird shadow elder thing you've got going on within the HICU that I once wanted to be a part of, but I'm now realizing y'all are such a dysfunctional work family from an (outside but close neighbor) perspective.
I've been in enough grassroots organizing since 2014 that I can see the rot in the company.
I'm also a cult survivor, having been forced into the LDS (Mormon) church from 2001-2016 by my former legal guardians. I know what cult tactics are and I know how deep the abuse goes. Watch yourself before you have another well-documented video of abusive behavior. I don't play around with that shit. I held up my end of accountability, now it's your turn.

Yk, I think it makes perfect sense that the older heroes don't want to even think about making things easier for the next generation. This society seems pretty right leaning - especially in its approach of policing (because no progressive would be okay with this level of copaganda heroganda(?) and policehero state. And if there's something the right loves, it's making things worse for the next generation - or at the very least, ignoring growing problems, scapegoating minorities (mutation quirkhavers) and doubling down on policies that have been proven not to work (like, have you seen the way Endeavor bodies even a petty purse snatcher? And yet, ppl still purse snatch???? When Endeavor is roaming the streets??????)
Honestly you're so right! The way that this hero society is set up and the laws against quirk use inevitably mean there will be ppl falling through the cracks. They see inequality, abuse, mental illness, etc and instead of dealing with that, they push for more policing - literally fastforwarding kids through the system... as though IRL police that only take weeks training (vs those that take years) aren't remarkably worse at their job and more dangerous for the communities they police.
I will maintain that there really is something to a world where everyone is getting increasingly OPd but the mangaka doesn't have the chops to write that story🙃
I really don't mind having a dystopia in a work, but it really feels like the mangaka has no idea how to worldbuild one, or how it affects the characters. I just watched the latest episode with Lady Nagant's (or whatever her name is) back story and I am not impressed. In fact, that's the saddest 🙄 excuse for a villain arc. I don't know if the mangaka is simply unaware of how intelligence and law enforcement agencies work, but that felt like it was a child's understanding of what makes a dystopia and what could turn someone "evil". Literally worse shit happens IRL, just do your research 🙄. It in no way convinced me that these villains have a point - just that everyone's a dumbass.
i feel like my hero academia suffers heavily from narrative dissonance. like for a series that uses children, through the system of hero schools, as the driving force of the future, it's confusing why so many of the older heroes, despite acknowledging that the children will be stronger than they are, do not make any effort to change the status quo to meet future needs.
the quirk singularity is happening before the eyes of both the old heroes and of the student heroes, and both groups look on wistfully and smile "the kids are alright" but the kids are very much not alright. one kid can destroy anything he touches, another kid cant use his quirk without getting 3rd degree burns. hell, one of the imo over looked aspects of the remedial course arc is that elementary school kids have stronger quirks than the hero school students.
furthermore, the continued existence of all for one kind of delegitimizes the existence of pro heroes because he is a known threat, not a hypothetical one. the manga treats him as a voldemort type character but at least voldemort's return had a level of plausible deniability to it.
all for one even acknowledges that deku was right in saying the heroes should have been proactive in dealing with him, which only gets more confusing when you consider that most people have quirks. most super fiction keeps powers rare for this very reason, or works the prevalence of powers into the narrative, but in mha it is treated as a narrative inconvenience best to be ignored by the larger story, which makes the pro hero system effectively responsible for most of the issues in the world because they refuse to help the members of future generations that dont aspire to be heroes.
in essence the world of mha has to suck in order for the narrative to work. this is has the unintended knock-on effect of making shigaraki justified in wanting to tear down this stagnating world, but the narrative treats him as damaged and in need of saving by making him a League player whose parents got killed by the "real" villain. vigilantes emphasizes and contrasts this dilemma through having "bad"/no quirk protags be the ones making direct change in their communities and responding to dilemmas in a head-on fashion without the pagentry and high-ideals of pro heroes but thank God that mirko is hot though amirite

veggiesforpresident said: wait whats up with irl cult deprogramming?
---------------------
*long sigh*
Okay, to preface all this, here’s a massive content warning for pretty much everything you can think of. I’m happy to talk more about this subject, but it gets very heinous very fast.
The main issue with the actual IRL cult deprogramming movement was that it was headed up by fundie Christians, and they were the ones who were allowed to decide what constituted a cult and what measures were necessary to get someone out of one.
I think people have this mental image of a bunch of trained professionals using therapy to convince someone to not be in a cult anymore, but that’s... not what it was.
The fact of the matter is that cult deprogrammers used and abused laws designed to protect the mentally ill in order to strip healthy, able-bodied adults of their legal rights. Think about Britney Spears for a few minutes and you’ll start to see how this became very dangerous very fast.
Parents of adult children in New Religious Movements (NRMs, the less-loaded academic term for “cults”) would often lobby judges to have their children labeled as legally incompetent and incapable of making their own decisions so they could get them out of these groups. The problem was, the only evidence you really needed of your child’s “insanity” was that they’d joined the group to start with.
And people always imagine... you know, Jonestown. Children of God. Truly heinous, dangerous groups. But if we’ll all kindly remember the Satanic Panic, the fact of the matter was that anything non-mainstream conservative Christian could be considered a cult.
Sure, it’s imperative to get someone out of something like The Family. But like... what if your kid is just kind of a hippie? What if they’ve joined some kind of pseudo-Buddhist New Age group? What if they’ve joined a socialist club at their university? What if they’re just kinda goth?
What if they’re gay?
Once these adults were stripped of their legal rights, their parents could do pretty much anything to them. That usually involved hiring a deprogrammer. That deprogrammer would then literally kidnap them (I’m talking throwing people in vans) and then drive them to an isolated location. They would then do anything they could to “break” the person. The goal was to break them so they could then build them back up the “right” way -- in other words, using the exact same tactics as the most dangerous NRMs.
These were not trained professionals, mind. These weren’t social workers or something. These were just random assholes who had the stomach for it. We have records of brutal beatings. Tying people up and denying them food, water, and sleep for days. Extreme emotional and physical abuse. Rape.
The worst case I can think of is that of Stephanie Riethmiller. She was a 19-20yo woman who had distanced herself from her parents after she left home for college, for reasons which I think will become immediately apparent. Her parents believed it was because she’d entered into a lesbian relationship with her roommate and had been led astray. So they hired cult deprogrammers to “fix” her. Stephanie was maced and thrown into a van and driven to another state, where she was chained up, beaten, and “correctively raped” for five days straight. Her parents were there in the house and approved of all of it.
After Stephanie was released, she attempted to bring charges against her parents and the people who had abused her, but the courts basically argued that any means were necessary when it came to deprogramming a lesbian. Despite not denying what they did, all parties got away with it. No jail time was served. This happened in 1982 in my hometown of Hamilton County, Ohio. 🙃
Ted Patrick, the quintessential cult deprogrammer, was involved in all of this. He didn’t do this deprogramming himself, but when her parents reached out to him with thousands of dollars, he recommended the people who did, helped make arrangements, and was paid for it.
They made a Drunk History episode about him calling him a hero and I just about threw up.
I guess the thing about cult deprogramming is... again. Who’s deciding what is and isn’t a cult? Who’s deciding what “deprogramming” looks like? Who’s deciding how far you can legally go? Who’s deciding what “normal” is?
I’ll leave you with this. Think about Fox News. Think about these fucking Republicans getting all het up over ~your children~ going to college. Learning new things. Becoming socialists. Becoming atheists. Becoming “brainwashed” by the libs.
Think about all this rhetoric about “groomers”.
Then think about a court system that will allow your insane, weirdo QAnon parents that you’ve gone no contact with to track you down and “reverse” all that by any means necessary.
Think about how terrifying that concept is if you’re part of literally any marginalized group.
And that was just... the late 70s through early 90s. People were so whipped up by things like the Mansons in 1969 and Jonestown in 1978 and the Satanic Panic of the 80s that they would allow people to do anything if they said it was going to be protecting people from cults.
Anything.
And they did.
And that’s why I fully believe that, as dangerous as some NRMs truly are, as vile and abusive and life-ruining? Yeah. The deprogrammers were often just as bad.

Girrrrrrl.
WACKED! Wacked out!

Ewwww right? I hope the show gets cancelled 😎
Lmao no other blog from tumblr interacts with her because we know the only friends she has is herself with those blogs like giving herself little palms on her own back 😂

#I would argue fans often depicts game Alucard more altruistic (dunno how to describe it) about humans than he actually is#But N!Alucard sure is... a thing
I don't really see how the fandom in general writes Alucard, but it's true that he's not a knight in shiny armor. The man keeps sealing himself in his coffin, he speaks as if expects to be paid for every word :P and at the very worst you could assume that he only wants to fight his father to honor his mother, not out of genuine heroism (... this sounds a little too much like Shadow). And when he actually participates in the worldly affairs as Arikado, he's... well. A little shady :P our Alucard is a little broody and not the most sociable kind, but he means well.
It is interesting to imagine Alucard struggling with his grief, briefly succumbing to hating the mob who killed his mother and then panicking because he doesn't want to disappoint her, only making him spiral further into guilt and self-loathing. But the show, of course, doesn't really do that. This is the most N!Alucard expresses about his inner conflict:
Alucard, they called me. The opposite of you. Mother never liked that. Did you know that? She hated the idea that I might define myself by you. Even in opposition to you. She loved us both. Enough that she wanted us to be our own people. Living our own lives. Making our own choices. And so here I am. Choosing to honor my mother by killing my father. No longer Adrian Tepes. Choosing to be Alucard of Wallachia, the name of my mother's people. I'm sorry, Mother.
Again, we have interesting ideas that are never elaborated on. Why would Lisa dislike that Alucard might define himself by Dracula? This really rises unfortunate implications since Lisa behaves like an abused wife terrified of her abusive husband - did she fear that her dhampir son would become as violent as his vampire father? But even if we take it in a more positive way, as in she wanted her son to be his own person, we don't know anything about their relationship! Lisa's last words are for Dracula, not Alucard, and he tells the others the story of how his parents met, rather than anything "remarkable" she did with her son. I don't know how he actually felt about her, I don't know why he would honor her in this way.
(also reminder that in the show N!Alucard was called such by other people. Hey, Ellis, it doesn't make "Dracula spelled backwards" any less silly, you just deprived a character of his agency again)
And then this scene from S2E2:
youtube
Alucard seems more concerned about the fact that by killing Dracula, the world will lose his ancient knowledge. In retrospect, this sounds nearly identical to Isaac protecting Dracula before being yeeted in the desert ("To save your genius, your knowledge, and your will? Without question. I am just a Forgemaster. Yours is the wisdom of ages.").
To be fair, he does also accurately describe how horrifying it would be if Dracula won and the world was left without people... but again, while he displays a modicum of inner turmoil at the idea of killing his father because he's too mad to be saved, I don't really read any compassion for said people - except at best the line "[he'd] look out over a world without art or memory or laughter".
Then again, this makes sense for the guy who won't go one second insulting the entire Belmont clan and painting them as "mentally ill hoarders" for the crime of killing vampires 🙃 of course he wouldn't care that much about humans.
And then there's this quote which is very similar to the one in S1:
Imagine if he could have aimed all that knowledge at improving lives. If the religious inquisition hadn't proved true all of his worst instincts about humans.
So yes. N!Alucard expresses anger against the religious people who killed his mother. He blames them for driving his father mad and preventing him from being a potentially good person. Again, interesting idea, but it doesn't go anywhere and he seems fully convinced of the fact, so it really feels like yet another CHURCH BAD moment.
And then this angle is completely dropped after S2! Alucard does literally nothing worth talking about in S3, and by S4 he becomes a hero for a village at the snap of the fingers! Hurray! No wonder Lisa doesn't even want to bother visiting her son who kind of forgot about her (Rebis notwithstanding). #sciencefamily❤️
Yeah N!Alucard is mainly an asshole, and the most egregious part is that he seems more attached to his father and his vampiric heritage, up until the very end. What's with the show and reversing canon characters' personalities?
Re: this.
Wait, am I reading this right? Did Alucard in the show tell Dracula to go after the people who killed Lisa?
Even if the context was "only go for those who did the deed, and leave everyone else alone," that's a change of characterization I didn't expect! In the games, I don't think Alucard would have pushed for that! (Then again, the only game with Alucard that I played was Symphony of the Night.)
Sadly no one clipped the scene, but there you go, from the first episode:
Dracula: One year. One year! It will take me one year to summon an army from the guts of Hell itself! Alucard: No. Dracula: What do you mean, no? That woman was the only reason on earth for me to tolerate human life! Alucard: Then find the one who did the deed. If you loose an army of the night on Wallachia, you cannot undo it, and many thousands of people just as innocent as her will suffer and die. Dracula: There are no innocents! Not anymore! Any one of them could have stood up and said, "No, we won't behave like animals anymore." Alucard: I won't let you do it. I grieve with you, but I won't let you commit genocide.
After this scene, Dracula attacks Alucard, and it's why he sports that infamous scar on his chest.
The rest of the dialogue is pretty good. It's just that one line said by Alucard that is... off. This is something I imagine Hector would think: kill the ones who actively caused Lady Lisa's death, but don't go beyond. Alucard in the games never expresses a desire for any kind of payback, even a "just" one, as he wants to honor Lisa's wish to leave all humans alone, and only wants her soul to rest in peace.
Then again, as I wrote in this post that I keep updating, Lisa's death and last words in the show are very, very different from SoTN. (spoiler: she addresses her husband, not her son)
But yeah. Alucard in the show is just completely off. I don't even know how to describe him, aside from him being a giant dick to Trevor.
#anti netflixvania#breaking down scenes in the show is harder than it looks#the dialogue doesn't have a good flow#it's like it's built around the “important” quotes - in this case alucard's long speech#so i probably sound incoherent lol#also i admit that i cannot follow s4 at all except for the styria story#i can't. i tried twice. it falls out of my eyes.#i know n!alucard helps out greta and her village but i couldn't describe his mental state other than “he got over that trauma quickly”#Youtube

Think I'm going to stop going to my new counselor. It sucks, but she is just kind of awful. My first appointment with her, she interrupted me and told me not to use the word "flashbacks" when talking about my flashbacks because she said she "wasn't talking to a colleague," she was l"talking to a patient."] Today, she informs me that the chronic illness I've been dealing with is actually just either me being "attention seeking" or "looking to score drugs." She said that's the only reason I could possibly be going to all these doctors appointments. It's like, no bitch, actually, I have a cluster of bloodclots in my brain that fucks with me physically and mentally and all the doctors appointments are to try to figure out what to do about it 🙃. Because I'm a recovering alcoholic, my doctor won't prescribe me pain killers for the horrid migraines that go along with having these clots, so what's that about abusing pills? This therapist met me 1 time and we talked for all of an hour and now she's telling me how it is, huh? She lectured me about how I need to "just have surgery" to remove the clots. I tried to explain that the doctors said it was too risky, so she then sits there on her phone and Googled whether or not bloodclots could be surgically removed from around the base of the skull and was like "See. This is easy. Google is your friend. This is what you should be doing. This is your condition. You should be doing this." By the end of the appointment, I felt so anxious. She'd made me feel stupid and had completely minimized my condition. Now that I've had a little time to decompress from the session, I'm just feeling angry. Who the fuck does she think she is? This is the best Medicaid can do? No fucking thanks. I'm better off without a therapist. I don't care if she IS the ONLY fucking therapist Medicaid will cover in this freaking town. She is hot garbage and therapy like that doesn't help anyone.

okay so. i am here as a bi/ace genderqueer indian woman who has a history of mental illness. the actress for yenn, anya chalotra, is of indian descent, and i am very excited to see that on screen. i’m listing my credentials because i am not in the mood to get attacked that i don’t understand what it’s like to be someone like yennefer, alright?
listen. i think yenn is a fascinating character. she has a lot of drive, a lot of power, and her history of abuse and self-harm and her struggle with disability have so many avenues of development for a character as complex as she is.
despite this, jasiker is one of my favorite characters. and it isn’t because he’s some random, fairly pretty whiteboy who you think the fandom likes to ... what was the phrase ? “woobify” ?? never heard that before but alright.
let me first talk about why jasiker is my favorite (besides ciri; they’re tied) and then we can get into why yenn, despite all of the characteristics that make her interesting, simply isn’t as engaging to me.
i agree that not every show needs a comic relief character, but i don’t think his character needs to be reduced to only this? i agree the story is less about him than geralt and ciri and yenn, but even if he wasn’t a bit comic reliefy, the lightness he brings to the show juxtaposes really well with the overall dark themes.
(also i’ve been scrolling through your posts and i can’t understand why you decide to shit on other people’s favorites just because you don’t like them? not very “mature” of you, as you like to keep reminding us 🙃)
i think what a lot of the appeal for me (and my friends, and i feel like for a good part of the fandom, though i obviously can’t speak for all) is that this is an Obviously Queer character?? and seeing the main character in a franchise as large as the witcher (with books, with games, now a show) end up with someone of the same sex is a take we haven’t seen before. i also just... as a person who has been called annoying a LOT when they were younger (no one says it now but it sticks with ya, y’know? i worry a Lot about being annoying to my friends) it’s kind of refreshing to see a character who is annoying but also funny and entertaining.
also. again. why can you not let people enjoy things??
from what i’ve seen of witcher posts on here, yenn is hardly forgotten??
you also mention that a lot of women of color are forgotten in the show but i can’t think of who else you mean that actually appears regularly/plays a big part in the show?
and look. in the case of yennefer of vengerberg, i just... while she has a background that is RIPE for the picking, the show itself doesn’t do that deep of a delve into her mental health issues?? we know she was severely abused, that she got little to no love in her formative years and that’s why she is Like This, but
by the time we go from episode 2 (four marks) where we meet her to episode 8 (much more) with the battle and stuff, we are to assume she has been alive for like. at least a century?? correct me if i’m wrong of course, but despite how long she has been alive, she has had literally SO LITTLE DEVELOPMENT as a character? like. listen. she has faced so much struggle and hardship and agony in her life and my heart ACHES for her, but also do feel like after a point, a tragic backstory is no longer a valid excuse for treating literally every single person around you like shit. i am due for a rewatch of the show soon but like. i don’t think she was nice to geralt even once? just horny and attracted to him. and she was only ever cruel to jasiker, and she literally pushed the first friend she ever had in her LIFE into a magical lake after her fiend was turned into an eel. without remorse or regret and only a brief bit of hesitation.
and i certainly don’t expect all female characters to be nice. (in fact, bitches are my favorite usually.) but i DO think there is an inherent difference between being nice and being kind.
i do not expect yennefer to be nice. given her past, i don’t even want her to be. if i went through even half the shit she did, i would be just as jaded and standoffish, alright? but i DO expect a certain level of kindness in characters for me to be Obsessed with them, and while i am very invested in yennefer’s story and exploring her past traumas and stuff, i think i am also justified in being a little pissed at her.
just because i am female doesn’t mean i have to like/respect/stan every female character. especially when said female character is Quite Unfeminist, Actually. she is powerful and interesting and compelling, but that is not enough as it is for me. not right now.
i’m curious to see how they’ll develop her character in season 2. (i hope they make her let go of the baby thing. and that she gets therapy because GOD is she so sad.)
(also in terms of not shipping her with geralt? why can’t he have a husband AND a wife? polycule rights, babey.)
@urbancuntemporary cannot stand the w!cher fandom (at least for the show) for this very reason, I mean geralt and yennefer are right there with their tragic backstories and abandonment issues and, in yennefers case, canon disability and history of self harm
