the bp girls have so much potential i dont understand why their solo music has been so mediocre so far. maybe it's a lack of concepts? i dont follow them any more than any other big kpop soloists so i dont know all their songs. but so far it seems like the concepts have just been "cool girl". which is kinda eh.

like new woman was catchy but then the mediocrity of mantra and rockstar kinda take away from it because they are all the same concept. idk. mantra especially had nothing novel or interesting about it. which doesnt always have to be a bad thing if the song is executed well but the lyrics and delivery are not good imo. some of the lines dont scan well ("it'll be depending on the day" is the worst culprit) and so the delivery stumbles. and the contents of the lyrics are so weak. songs don't have to be about how every woman is intelligent and has a rich inner life independent of her beauty. like "hot girl" songs can be cunty and fun. but when it falls flat you cant even say that the artist took a big swing or tried a new concept. there are just so many songs like this. i think she can make good stuff if she tries something new

so i've been listening to elysian fields way too much lately and thinking how fucked up that song is for the mechs to perform. like put death to the mechanisms out of your head (bc that basically didn't happen yet with udad) and listen.

they're immortal. they can't die. the song is all about the sweet release of death, and arguably a gentle one at that, cradled in the fields on a world were nature ceases, next to the grave of your deceased beloved. it's a beautiful song, and arguably, ulysses got their happy ending.

the mechanisms don't get that, though. most didn't even get the option of keeping mortality. they're stuck on the mortal plane, in flesh and metal, with no escape or release within reach.

their finale performance of this album is the bittersweet comfort of mortality and endings, something they're well aware they will never be granted.

can’t chuckle at the thought of something so fragile being worn by the military’s scariest ghost story. he can’t do anything but look at price, seeing the same grief darkening his eyes; both knowing who’s initials they’d find etched into the fine gold

neither of them bring it up, the same way they pretend not to notice the days ghost drowns in a cologne that isn’t his; the collar of the jacket tugged so high, it almost hides the thinness of his eyeblack, worn and smeared across his skin like watercolour

almost hides the desperate grip he has on something beneath it

I caught up to chainsaw man and can I say it is so funny that like last week on twitter people were bitching about how Fujimoto's chainsaw man style drawing of Captain America, with the shield for a head blinding its sight and the star stabbing into its own neck, definitely did not have meaning beyond looking cool and if you read into it as a critique of American culture you're just looking too far into it and making up stuff that isnt there!

and then days later he drops a chainsaw man chapter where the Statue of Liberty cracks and turns into a grotesque being called the gun goddess, fueled by the blood of American gun association members. which could mean nothing.

I mean, just look at the lyrics.

Looking at it in my twisted little mind, from this perspective it feels like a war-torn Kafka coming home to the one man that grounds him. Hoshina gave this man a fresh start, forgave him for lying about being Kaiju number 8, and gave him access to tools to help him in the coming fights. Hoshina swept away any thought he had about not being strong enough to fight for others.

When he's with this man... how could one's soul not feel painted with gold.

Or you could see this through a platonic lens and say its about Kafka's relationship with all of Division Three.

Your choice, no issues here.
