Homelander x Psychiatrist!Reader Pt. 1?

When Homelander first met you, he just came in because Madelyn cooked up some scheme with Edgar to 'prove' that the members of The Seven were sound of mind and could pass a psychiatric evaluation similar to the one used in the army. Of course, you had been paid a lot of money to do the evaluations and even more money to ensure that these heroes passed no matter what they said. You were a respected psychiatrist in your field; that’s why Madelyn wanted you specifically.

Homelander went to his appointment, planning on leaving until you said something that caught his attention. You said, 'I am here for you. I took this job because you all spend your days helping and saving people, but at the end of the day, who helps and saves you? Obviously, I couldn’t physically save you, but I can be a place for you to talk if you need it. Nothing you say will leave this room.' Boy, did that stroke his ego in all the right ways. He decided to stay. Something about you was comforting, and he wanted to talk, so he started small with the obvious stuff. He led the conversation by making off-handed remarks about being better than everyone and having to be perfect for Vought. It was clear you didn’t understand his pain, but you were listening to him. You were actually listening to him and responding.

You weren’t like Madelyn, who seemed to argue with every other thing he said; you didn’t respond with dismissive and uncaring responses like Queen Maeve, and you could actually keep up with the conversation, unlike The Deep.

Homelander surprised you and himself when he began attending regular scheduled sessions. You usually led the discussion by asking various questions. Some questions he would lie about, not feeling totally safe to dive into certain topics, or he would just dodge the question and change the subject. Homelander knew you noticed this because anytime he did either of those things, your body language would change, and you would write something down in your little notebook. That notebook had made Homelander incredibly nervous until he found out you were not in there calling him a useless pussy. You were just simply writing topics you two had discussed and what topics made him uncomfortable.

You seemed to actually care about Homelander’s feelings, even the bad ones. Stan Edgar put Homelander in his place, and Homelander looked down avoiding Edgar’s pointed gaze like a child being scolded by their father. Homelander needed some reassurance, but he would never admit that willingly. Homelander felt weak and stupid for needing someone, but you didn’t seem to mind even when he was ranting and raving, so he went to you. You had been his haven. The one person he could confide in and actually be himself.

He arrived at your office in the morning while you happened to be filling out some paperwork. He knew you didn’t have any appointments today because this had been previously the day Vought scheduled for the evaluations of the heroes. Homelander spent the whole day pestering you. 'What are we doing now?' He asked, not entirely oblivious to your mild frustration. 'Still just filling out paperwork,' you replied. He rolled his eyes. 'God, your life is so boring. Go to work, talk to the crazies, fill out paperwork and go home, and you do that all alone? I forgot how boring normal people can be.'

You laughed before telling him, 'no one is keeping you here.' Homelander’s jaw tightened. This pissed him off. You’re not supposed to say that. You’re supposed to offer to do something more fun. You seemed to notice that 1,000-yard stare he has as he retreats into his own mind. 'Look, I just mean that I have to finish work. I know it’s probably boring you to death just sitting here; you don’t have to stay if you don’t want to,' you told him, which seemed to make him feel a bit better, but he’s not entirely out of his head. 'It’s fine, we can just talk while you work,' he tells you with a feigned smile.

Homelander begins to perk up while you finish your paperwork and finally asks you the million-dollar question, 'What are we doing when we get home?'

'I am going home to cook up some dinner and watch some television,' you told him, trying to hint that you were wanting to be alone. Homelander was undeterred. 'What are we eating? I could use a home-cooked meal. We could watch one of my movies. I’ve been told I’m a great actor.' Homelander needs you to agree and compliment him. He desperately wants you to tell him he does a good job, even if you’re just talking about acting. 'Yeah? Your movies are pretty famous,' you say, accepting your fate that he isn’t leaving you alone tonight.

The night is spent with him at your house. Homelander wastes no time making himself at home and pilfering through your things. He feels comfortable being so ensnared in your scent. He becomes more comfortable as the night carries on. You fix his plate and drink for dinner, and the two of you share a dinner that he perceives as romantic. Your food isn’t as good as the private chefs at Vought, but Homelander loves it because he got to see the love you put into making it just for him.

You two clean up together. It’s really you cleaning, and Homelander helps by talking about which movie of his you should watch tonight. Finally, you try to retire to your room, but he follows. 'I thought we were gonna watch a movie… it doesn’t have to be one of mine,' Homelander tries not to sound too desperate, and he hated to say that last bit.

'I had planned on watching something in my room, but you can come lay with me if you want,' you tell him reluctantly. Homelander is excited but tries to keep that hidden. You two lay down and begin watching one of his movies. By the end, Homelander is 'asleep.' He knows you can’t tell the difference in him and ignores you when you gently shake him trying to wake him. He’s not the biggest fan of sleeping in strange beds, but for you, he can make an exception. Next time, he wants you in his bed though.

Did you saw the teaser of 2x06 where Homelander seems angry because Stormfront lied to him and she's trying to calm him down? because I think that's the beginning of the end of their relationship maybe he's going to kill her for the end of the season just like he did with Madelyn I mean in the teaser of the second season Homelander is also covered in blood and has a sad/shocking expression could be that.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this too. Stormfront is obviously planning to use Homelander’s emotional weakness to control the Seven through him and he’s bound to realise that eventually and turn against her. And we’ve seen how he reacts when people lie to him so when he finds out that Vought is creating more supe terrorists behind his back and that Stormfront is directly involved in it, he’s obviously not going to take it well. So maybe it is the beginning of the end for them as you said, but something about the way Stormfront said “I’ll never lie to you again, I’ll tell you everything, starting with this...” in next eps promo makes me think she’s going to tell him something huge that convinces him she’s still on his side for now. You could be right about that clip where Homelander is covered in blood - maybe he and Stormfront have a massive fight at the end of the season, and he’s looking down at her, about to finish her off? Although, we know Maeve is now making plans to take Homelander down, and whatever he does to her when he finds out will not be pretty, so maybe it’s actually Queen Maeve that he’s looking down at in the s2 promo? Tbh I’m leaning more towards this right now because it doesn’t seem like they’re done with Stormfront just yet. I mean Lamplighter seems to be working for Stormfront and maybe she’s going to bring him back into the Seven once Maeve is gone? And Stormfront might have something to do with Soldier Boy’s introduction in S3 too. Soldier Boy was Vought’s first supe so unless they’re planning to have Soldier Boy appear only in flashbacks, then he must have been around for almost as long as Stormfront has, so it stands to reason that they know each other right?

The Boys: Season 1/ Spoiler Free Review

So, I just finished watching the new TV-show (which I have been waiting pretty much since its very announcing) and, boy (haha), it’s was diabolical.

That a very bad feeling, when you’re waiting for something for too long, getting excited for every piece of information you receive and then when it comes out, you realize that your expectations were much bigger than this show/movie/book can offer you. Fortunately, watching this show (especially first 5 episodes of it) I couldn't stop but feeling some kind of relief as the show was surprisingly good. 

Without any further discussion let me try to tell you what good and bad sides of the show are.

1. Visual effects

Though I believe the show didn’t have a big budget, the visual effects were pretty good, all this blood and supe’s “stuff” looked very cool and pleasant for eyes to watch. Moreover, I really liked the colouring the creators decided to use which gives this show its very unique style. And every “the boys” opening was just as perfect as you can only imagine it to be. That’s all I can say, like, really.

2. Music

Oh, boi. I can’t describe how AWESOME the music in the show was. I’m not talking about the original soundtrack which really suits the whole atmosphere but the songs that were used there. It not only introduces every character with his/her own character-describing theme but makes every shot diabolically stylish. I mean I’m listening to those songs on repeat. Very cool stuff. Even better than The Umbrella Academy’s, though, it’s very hard for me to admit it. 

Btw, my favs are “Iggy Pop - The Passenger”, “Daniel Pemberton - Take You Down”, “R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts” and “Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine”.

3. Characters

That’s gonna be a very big topic, prepare yourselves to this. 

Billy Butcher. Played by diabolical Karl Urban this character stole my attention with the first trailers, promos etc. Man, he’s good. He’s awesome. Though I can’t tell that while watching the show itself Bucher was my favourite because there were some moments (especially with his wife) that weren’t emotional enough (comparing to the more or less the same theme in Punisher, for example). I wasn’t on his side fully. That’s why the ending didn’t play to me as it supposed to. Though yeah, he’s diabolical.

Hugh "Hughie" Campbell. So, Hughie was definitely the one who had a character developing line in the show and with that said he was growing as a person throughout the whole season. I really like what the creators did with him, and his line was never boring, always understandable and interesting. Really into what is going to happen with him in the 2nd season.

John/Homelander. Antony Starr did an amazing job showing this very complex character. My thoughts towards him were changing constantly during the process of watching. Closer to the end he was stealing every scene. What a character, what a story. You bought me, I’m waiting for the 2nd season.

Annie January/Starlight. I was afraid her line wouldn’t be as complex as it could have been, comparing to the others. I was wrong. I really sympathized her, her story was actually sad and inspiring at the same time. Cool. 

Frenchie. That was a “surprise” character for me. I mean, I didn’t expect to worry about him, but his line turned out to be very interesting and very enjoyable to watch. 

A-Train. I hate this character from the beginning to the end. Maybe the final episode’s stuff changes him and I won’t be so certain about my feelings? We’ll see. 

“Can you teach me to run out cancer?”

Marvin "Mother's Milk". I don’t know if it were just my thoughts but while watching I felt like Marvin was really left out. Maybe it was because of the number of the characters the show had or the creators decided to leave something for the 2nd season, but there wasn’t a lot of him on the screen and his character's development. I don’t know him that much.

Kimiko / the Female. Her storyline was actually something very new to me. I was into her story and every new piece of information we were given gave her a very new perspective look. Hoping to see more of her in the future.

Queen Maeve. As in the situation with Marvin, there is something in her, and we were shown her character changing (the plane scene and its consequences) but still, could have been more? 2nd season, ha?

Kevin/The Deep. That was a very weird part of the story, I didn’t get it, really. So I have very mixed up feelings about this character and... cough *gills* cough scene.

Madelyn Stillwell. She was a person with her own motivation, she had her view on everything, she knew what she wanted. Maybe, that’s why I considered her as the main villain of the season.

Hugh Campbell. They got Simon Pegg!!! Yaaas.10 unexpected cameos out of 10.

There are much more characters, some of which were more interesting than the others, but everybody felt like they belonged there. Diabolical cast.

4. The Main Plot

Attention! I haven’t read the comics, so all that I’m going to talk about is the show. I don’t know what’s going in comics and I’m judging just by what I’ve seen in the show.

As you could have noticed, I said at the very beginning that the first 5 episodes were good. I didn’t lie. In fact, they were perfect. The structure, the dynamic, character’s development, their relations with each other, diabolical actions scenes, blood and stuff. 

The first 5 episodes were iconic, very stylish, unique. The authors really decided to make a satirical story on superheroes and the real situation in the world, showing some stuff that is happening or more likely to happen within the circumstances. The people, events were so down to earth it was very easy to believe that such things really could have happened. 

And the plot. It was interesting, so much mystery, unknown and I was sitting, asking myself a bunch of questions and hoping to find astonishing answeres later in the season.

And the Spicy Girls’ reference - I laughed so hard. Awesome.

Unfortunately, something went a little bit wrong and starting with the 6th episode it wasn’t as exciting as it was before. I can’t tell that everything went wrong and it was impossible to watch, no. Just the tone and the style were gone, for some reason, plot twists didn’t work for me that much (not all of them, of course). I just found myself looking on the timeline of the episode (you know what I mean). 

Also, I thought, in the end, there would be a big diabolical fight between two characters (spoiler-free, hehe), but there was a scene of them just talking. Don’t get me wrong, I like talking stuff, it just didn’t feel like those character’s actions. Maybe again, the budget. But first five episodes worked with it, so why?

In the end, it was a very diabolical TV-show, and I’m going to watch the 2nd season, hoping that the creators won’t lose their style and motives closer to the end of it, ‘cause people are likely to remember last moments than the first ones)

Gonna give it 8,5 diabolical supes out of 10 (for the first five episodes).

What’s wrong with the new Amazon show: The Boys

I started this blog to share my love for Supernatural with other fans like me. So, when Eric Kripke teams up with Amazon to create this Superhero show, I was psyched! Add to that, the gif sets of the funny dialogues, an IMDB rating of 9/10 and I was thrilled to have something that I can care about again. And the show mostly lived up to my expectations. It had massive vibes of Supernatural (Even Jim Beaver makes an appearance!). But having finished the first season of the show, there were quite a few aspects that did not hit home with me. I am writing this to see if anyone else felt this way. [Massive spoilers ahead]

Things that I liked:

I liked the arc of Hughie who started as this timid young man at the beginning of the season and ended up with some heavy stuff on his conscious.

I loved the whole arc of Deep. I just loved it. For him to exploit Starlight like that at the beginning and then getting it back as Non-Consensual penetration towards the end is just so satisfying.

I loved the gory visual effects. I also loved how they achieved so much with sound effects alone like Homelander landing with a whoosh and thud out of camera scope in most scenes.

I thought that Anthony Starr, who plays Homelander is amazing. He conveys so many unwritten things with so much ambiguity. In addition, he embodies vulnerability and psychotic behaviour in every scene towards the end of the season. He is downright scary in several scenes.

I liked the dynamics between Frenchie and the Female. This pair has the potential of becoming the OTP of this series. I loved their chemistry more than Billy and Becca.

Things that I didn’t like:

As usual, Kripke writes his female leads weak. Both Maeve and Annie do nothing more than be jealous of each other and let themselves be manipulated by their male counterparts.

I wished the members of the Boys had more compelling reasons to form the team. Even Billy was only satisfying his ego with his witch-hunt. And when he and MM find the babies getting compund V, they don’t even try to save those particular set of children.

I definitely did not like how Hughie takes to life-on-the-run, his love for Robin didn’t seem convincing enough to continue with the Boys after he accidentally kills The Translucent. It only looks like, he wants a part of the action (which MM tells him to keep away from) and yet, he doesn’t build any skills like Shooting, etc that can make him useful to this team.

I also hated Translucent’s arc left without any closure. Why wasn’t his family been brought into the picture? Did everyone just expect him to be on a mission forever? I am assuming his son makes a comeback in later seasons but its only going to be a convenient plot twist. That’s Kripke for you.

I couldn’t understand why/how a powerful man like Homelander would be in the grips of Madelyn or Vought Corporation. At first, I thought he thinks of her as his mother (therefore hates her baby boy) and depends on her to make his decisions for him. But towards the end, he seems to be completely capable of making diabolical plans by himself and even sets her up for success. So, what kept him from turning rogue?

I really wanted Homelander to be a misunderstood good guy but after the flight incident, those super villains, the other flight incident and innocent people cut into half in Syria, it is established that he is a very cruel being. Problem with that is, I am never going to buy into him being a tormented child no matter how much they sell it. I wish they left some ambiguity in his evilness just so we can interpret things ourselves.

I didn’t see any character development in several folks like Billy and Maeve but I am hoping all that is going to change in the next seasons.

The Boys

HEY PEEPS!

I have FINISHED this frickin gem on AMAZON PRIME VIDEO! This show is a must see! It is based on the comic series of the same name by Garth Ennis!

The show follows four men who take it upon themselves to keep Superheroes under control, specifically Vought International’s elite team, The Seven.

The Boys:

Karl Urban (you MUST know this Star). He was Eomere in Lord of the Rings: Two Towers, Return of the King, Judge Dredd in Dredd,  Vaako in the Riddick Film Series, and Leonard “Bones” McCoy in the Star Trek reboot films. A damn good actor, peeps! In this black comedy, he portrays Billy Butcher, the violent leader of The Boys who is willingly to do almost anything to “spank the bastards (superheroes who get outta line) back in place”.

Jack Quaid portrays main character Hugh Campbell, who joins team after horrifically witnesses his fiancee killed by one of The Seven and suffers PTSD throughout the first season.

Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, a multi-talented Merc who has a shared history with Butcher as part of the original The Boys time prior to the series’s events.

Laz Alonso (Fenix Calderon Fast & Furious 6) as Mother’s Milk, the sensible, well spoken, and educated team member. He and Frenchie share a mutual hatred for one another.

Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko / the Female, the mute member of The Boy and their most lethal physical weapon.

The Seven:

Antony Starr plays Homelander, the All-American team leader of The Seven who wants autonomy of his image.

Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve, long-time member of The Seven experiencing burnout.

Erin Moriarty is Starlight, the newest member of The Seven. Naive, genuine, and heroic.

Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, a speedster of the group who wishes to keep his rep as “the fastest man alive.”

Chace Crawford as Kevin / The Deep (the Series’ Aquaman), the self-absorbed dolt of the team.

Nathan Mitchell is Black Noir, the strong and silent type hero.

Alex Hassell portrays Translucent, a Supe possessing invisibility.

Recurring Characters:

Elisabeth Shue as Madelyn Stillwell, the VP of Vought International.

Simon Pegg (Star Trek, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) plays Hugh Campbell, Hughie’s dull dad.

This show is amazing from start to finish! It is a Black Comedy Superhero series that explores contemporary issues surrounding media’s narrative of celebrities as larger than life icons. Ironically, they’re people like us all, who through the pressures/stresses of maintaining their status, make choices that have severe layered consequences on themselves as well as the everyday folk who worship/cross them. The Seven (5 this season) are as developed as The Boys they encounter over the 8 episode arc. Each character expresses a relatable side of humanity (specifically the primitive sides). This is perhaps one of the most grounded, gritty, unrelenting takes on the superhero genre I have seen to date! Two Thumbs WAAAAAAYYYYY UP!! YOU MUST CHECK THIS ONE OUT!
