whats weird is "pita" in english usually refers to the bread (tho ppl do know of other foods that end in -pita), but in greek "pita" is a muuuuuch more general word for breads/cakes/pies made in pans. there are so many different kinds of pitas that you can make with so many different things, for many different meals and flavors. and most of them arent like pita bread? pita bread is almost an outlier. and yet in english its like THE representation of pita. it would be like if you went to a country where the word "cake" only referred to pancakes, and every now and then people were like oh chocolate cake exists too i guess
#this isnt a bad thing tho just like an observation#even within the way i speak in english vs greek!#if i say pita in english im probably talking abt the bread#but if i say it in greek im probably being more general#unless im referring to a specific meal but then its probably already in the context#so i dont have to specify tiropita or galatopita. bc we already know which pita i mean. the one right there

while i do identify with being australian im not actually aussie by blood in any way and for a long time ive been wanting to get more in touch with my greekness.... i feel like i dont know anything about it. i just dont know how to go about learning. sigh
#i guess i could try asking my family but somehow i feel like itd be awkward to ask#i should really continue learning the language#i dunno why i wasnt taught it growing up considering everyone on the greek side of my family speaks it at home#its up to me now tho#it feels like really bad in a way. my family was discriminated against for being greek upon coming here#& currently nobody in the youngest generation of our family (including myself) knows how to speak greek#its not nearly the same crisis as it is for other cultures greeks arent dying out or anything but yknow still#i dont see my extended family nearly as much as i used to (things happened). at least were still on good terms#im english too lol but i dont feel as strongly about that half of myself#i guess probably because it doesnt feel as different from being aussie as being greek does#my feelings towards all this are actually a bit more complicated than what ive been saying. greece is hardly a paradise#but eh. tumblr post

wanna go more in depth for your hatred about tsoa? is it really REALLY inaccurate? im start to get more into greek mythology and many recommended that book to me besides the obvious ones like the actual materials
(btw i love your posts mwa mwa stay hydrated)
sure! yes it is very inaccurate. let me just say though its been like 3 years since i read it and i'm currently out of state so i don't have it on me to skim through but perhaps one day i will reread it just to make a whole masterpost on everything i hate about it. maybe not tho because it was agonizing enough on the first read 💀
also let me put a trigger warning here i will be mentioning sexual assault in this post because it's in the book and i'll be referring to that scene
so i have a lot of issues with it let me try to organize my thoughts... her characterization is my main issue. just terrible. also i feel like her writing is like.... weird or unfitting sometimes. like theres a scene where patroclus (who is like... 11 or 12 at this point maybe younger) says achilles is "still plump with childhood" or something (again probably not the exact quote its been a minute but something similar) which is just not how 11 year olds talk about other 11 year olds? its supposed to be from patroclus' perspective and i just feel like when shes writing him as a kid he still sounds, thinks, and talks like a grown adult. sometimes he doesn't even sound like patroclus he just sounds like madeline miller.
which brings me to her characterization of patroclus in general. just fucking horrific was her inspo troy (2004)? she made him this medic twink who only heals and even when he finally does fight in achilles armor its like he gets kills on pure luck and you're supposed to be shocked. patroclus in the iliad is 1. older than achilles and 2. a great warrior! this is why achilles lets him don his armor in the first place because he KNOWS how good patroclus is on the battlefield. also patroclus has anger and rage of his own! he is not a smol uwu baby don't PISS ME OFF! his kill count crazy. idek where she got the medic thing from there's like one (1) scene in the iliad where patroclus helps an injured solider in the camp but he is most certainly not the medic of the greeks. he's dull in tsoa. he has hardly any personality outside his love for achilles.
next is her thetis. this, i think, enrages me more than anything else. thetis is a character of grief. thetis is a goddess who, for all her power, is ultimately unable to change the fate of her son. she may be a little overbearing at times, but NOTHING like how she is in tsoa. madeline miller makes her a homophobic (?) helicopter abusive mother (i say ? on the homophobia because im not sure if it was homophobia or if she just hated patroclus specifically. if it was homophobia the stupidity of making an ancient greek god homophobic speaks for itself) thetis doesn't even hate patroclus in the iliad, in fact, thetis is the one who preserves his body and keeps it fresh and prevents it from rotting while achilles waits for his new armor and then goes out to fight hector. she tells achilles he could lay there for a year and she would keep him unchanged. in tsoa, she forces them apart, and tells achilles if he does not sleep with deidamia, she will never let him see patroclus again. this is insane to me. thetis would not set her son up for s/a and force him to sleep with someone against his will. and mind you this occurs after she's already stated clearly that thetis is a victim of rape herself. i assume this is madeline miller's way of asserting that achilles has no attraction to women while still being able to have his son in the plot later. this again, is stupid to me. if you want to argue achilles may have been gay, fine, homosexuality was complicated in ancient greece and you could potentially make the argument his sleeping with women was to uphold a reputation but i think it's more accurate that he was probably just attracted to both. however i think you can make him explicitly gay in a retelling without adding sexual assault to his story. i also find this especially distasteful because in actual antiquity achilles is the one committing sexual assault. (if i had a nickel for every time madeline miller made a character who canonically assaults someone else a victim of s/a while removing the fact they commit it themselves from the story i'd have 2 nickels. which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?) in general i find it very weird how madeline, on multiple occasions, demonizes a woman from mythology and makes her into a villain she simply is not. this y'alls "feminist retelling" author? oh okay.. i guess! (her deidama is an antagonist in this too, as a hysterical jealous Other Woman)
i also felt she imposed too many modern standards/heteronormativity onto achilles and patroclus' relationship. like i said with patroclus, making him the weak defenseless healer and achilles the badass warrior. very much giving one is strong and masculine and the other is nurturing and feminine. changing the aspects of their other relationships so its like they've only ever loved eachother and no else which isn't necessary. achilles and patroclus could (and do, in the iliad) sleep with other people and it would not diminish how intense and true their love for each other is!!
over all she sanitized the story, flattened it and butchered all the characters with a sprinkle of fetishization and misogyny on top. the book is frankly boring and underdeveloped too. this is honestly not as in depth of a review as i would like to give but like i said i don't have access to the book at the moment so i just stuck to the core grievances i remember having
(also thank you, you stay hydrated too!! <3)

Crafting the most controversial ranking of the olympians (including Hestia and Hades)
DISCLAIMER: THIS POST WAS INSPIRED BY @wanderingmind867
APOLLO: He's just fucking AWESOME???!!! What can I say? He's such a easy to like god when you don't let the stupid retellings poison you. He's the god of writing and music (both topics that I love) and just SO much more. I can't even grasp how much the greeks fucking loved this guy and so do I. In a more fanon-y way, in my head he's the best possible protagonist out of all the olympians for a story. There's so much nuance with him, and I just love psychoanalyzing him. I also think his relationships with other gods and every mortals is so INVESTING and intense if you think about it in the right way. Also I love blondes. Blondes are hot.
ARES: The more people hate him, the more I defend him. He gets so much undeserved bullshit, he should've been the Hades of our modern generation, he deserves it way more imo. He's a great father, a great lover, and he dances! DANCES! He's probably the god with the most misinformation besides maybe Hades. Ares kind of gives me the underdog affect? Yes he's this big huge god, but he loses FAR too much to be considered the "bully" like the myths advertise. And I get that it's supposed to be a message "brain over brawn" but quite frankly I could care less. Ares is treated bad by his parents, he just deserves so much more I love this guy. I love paralleling him with other gods too like Athena or Apollo or Zeus. He's just so fun to write.
APHRODITE: I feel the exact same way for her as I feel for Ares. I used to hate her SO MUCH, until I realized how misled I was. APHRODITE IS FUN. The only thing is that I'd defend her wrongs because I don't give a shit. "Aphrodite was petty" IDC!!!! I hate how authors (Rick.) write her. She's SO much more then what she's reduced too. She's SO powerful. I think the only reason she's not equal to Ares because I don't know a lot of her myths. She's serving cunt ALWAYS.
POSEIDON: Poseidon being so high is probably a disservice to society. BUT HES SO COOL AND SO POWERFUL????!!! Yes he does shitty stuff I'm not gonna pretend he doesn't, but seeing him in stories is just so entertaining. I typically like reading fanfics with him during the titanomachy or just fanfics where he's being a great uncle (so... super not accurate but it's entertaining). Ngl I giggled when he asked Apollo to fight him during the trojan war and Apollo said "nah im good". Poseidon is a BEAST in the fight with cool ass powers and a BEAST in bed (um.. when it's consentual... fuck I hate greek mythology sometimes). STORMBRINGER (i hope that's Poseidon and not Zeus???) GOD OF THE SEAS
HERMES: Hermes is kind of low, but NOT BECAUSE I DONT LOVE HIM. I tend to like gods who are a bit... violent if it wasn't obvious by the top 4? And even though I know Hermes can be violent I never see him BE violent. He just seems too perfect for me? Name one flaw he has that the other gods don't also have. HOWEVER he's so fun to read about, I don't like Percy Jackson but when I saw Hermes in the tv show I jumped out of my seat. I really like him with Apollo though, it brings a level of complexity that I LOVE.
zeus... I can explain. OKAY SO, I LOVE COMPLEX CHARACTER RIGHT AND GUESS WHO IS A VERY NUANCED GOD IN MYTHOLOGY??? ZEUS! I specifically like him from the titanomachy, because I like to think he was just... different when he was younger. Kind of like one of the typical heroes until the power he has changes him over time. I wish someone wrote a retelling because I'd love to see Zeus and Rhea or Zeus and Cronos interactions during the war. Disclaimer, I'm aware he does shitty shit but so does everyone on this list besides like Hestia and...that's it.
DIONYSUS: His low ranking is more to do with the lack of knowledge but also I'm not too interested in the domains he involves himself with. Never went to a party, never did drugs, never drunk alcohol, etc. HOWEVER I love when Dionysus is completely unhinged. God of MADNESS GUYS!!! ITS IMPORTANT! I love the myths where he's genuinely just being scary as fuck, I love how powerful but underestimated he is.
HERA: She deserves better. If I was her I'd do worse, but like... not to innocent children and women. That's all.
ATHENA: I don't find her that interesting. She just kind of reminds me of that one girl in the class who reminds the teacher they have homework. I am aware that I AM biased though, my top 4 gods consisted of 2 gods that are at odds with her. I just don't like how biased the myths were in her favor, it kind of makes her boring. If Ares or Athena lost equally I wouldn't mind her, but she wins every single time. Even when she loses, Zeus doesn't care and let's her get away with it anyway. Athena, for me, absolutely requires other gods to add complexity to her character.
DEMETER: I like her out of spite because I don't like Hades x Persephone shippers from modern retellings. In particular I don't like the Hades x Persephone shippers that hate on Demeter as if they know anything about her. She's only low because I like a lot of other gods better and I just feel like I'd never be able to write anything with her as a main character because I've never "psychoanalyzed" her like I did the other gods.
HESTIA: *shrug* I don't know her that well, and she doesn't seem to really have any myths to jump off from. The lack of myths and personality puts her low on the list. Though I do love how sweet she is.
HEPHAESTUS: ...he bores me. He doesn't offer anything to me whatsoever. I don't necessarily feel bad for him for the Aphrodite situation either, and I hate when a lot of people who like Hephaestus ignore VERY IMPORTANT details on the myths to serve their purpose. The majority of it is just plain boredom, but I hate how everyone villainized Aphrodite and Ares.
HADES: ...sigh. He's a bit of a unfair one. I'm not someone who can seperate the god from the people who like the god. A lot of Hades fans tend to just piss me off based off the most obvious misinformation in the entire world. I HATE how they try to hate on the other Olympians as if Hades is somehow better then him? He has no myths that doesn't make him better, we just don't have a lot of him. I don't find him necessarily interesting, and I desperately wish for the retellings for him to end. It's not really fair because it's less the god and more the "fans" but whatever it is what it is.

im bored as shit so im going to asign a community person/ship to every conan gray song bcs i really just use this site as a stream of my conciousness, if anyone has a better one for any of them feel free to tell me, also fair warning abed is my fav character, i'll try not to make everything abt him and troy but no promises
grow: the whole final episode really but im thinking mostly jeff tbh or also abed leaving for LA, or even maybe troy leaving on his voyage ☹️
idle town: the 'town' being greendale i feel like this applies to jeff also like its abt all of them but its jeffs pov
generation why: im thinking my girl britta hehe idk how to explain it but the vibes are so there
crush culture: im thinking annie, but also maybe jeff, aro king 👑

lookalike: oh my god, brittas pov and its about jeff and slater oof
the other side: troy and abed, specifically in geothermal escapism 😭</3 im killing myself why would i do this
the king: okay fuck this is so trobed coded, abeds pov
comfort crowd: the whole study group tbh <33 in more specifics i was thinking jeff + the study group and honestly abed and annie
wish you were sober: i mean this one has to be either jeff and britta or britta and troy, though troy and britta could be taken either as britta wanting to go party and smoke weed or wtv and troy not rlly doing that stuff or britta feeling rejected bcs of troy giving all his attention to abed 😭 (like as in wish u were sober being wish u werent a raging homosexual)
maniac: probably i'd have to say jeffbritta from either pov
(online love): i... dont know tbh. the vibes are giving annie and troy for some reason, maybe once troys already left?
checkmate: the fond eyeroll i had to give, jeff and britta again. maybe annie being pissed at jeff over their kiss but i dont ship them romantically
the cut that always bleeds: idk, maybe jeff and annies weird ass relationship that keeps fucking happening is the closest, from annies pov
fight or flight: idk tbh, maybe trobed and britta if i had to go with smth, this one is mostly EXTREMELY byler coded (from stranger things) and im never fucking letting that go
affluenza: ok i mean ive gotta give this one to jeff dont i
(can we be friends?): troy abed and annie <3 im so soft for them
heather: ok fuck i HAVE to say trobed and britta and its abeds pov and if we're being specific them in virtual systems analysis becuase i'll never get over this episode ("ive run the simulations, i dont get married :/") bcs i fucking love abed being jealous of britta while she was with troy in the cool way but also in the sad if troy cant love me no one will way
little league: this is troy and abed when troy leaves :(((( and this is canon bcs my beloved wife and i are so troy and abed coded and she loves little league sooo
the story: ok so the boy and the girl are hmm annie and abed, the boy and the boy are troy and abed duh doy, him and his friend are maybe idk britta and troy, i dont wanna say jeff or abed bcs their dad/mum abandoned them and that bit's abt wanting to get away from ur parents yk
fake: (😭) maybe jeff (alan's pov 😔😔💔💔) nah but fr i see people joking abt his song but its lowkey fire
overdrive: WHY DO THEY ALL MAKE ME THINK OF JEFF AND BRITTA
telepath: jeff 😔 and 😔 britta 😔
movies: ok i literally cant say anyone other than abed, the king of movies. im not really feeling troy tho, maybe rachel, like maybe when abed kept trying to super speed run their relationship and he was anxious abt not passing the relationship tests
people watching: the MOST annie coded song ever holy fuck she is so people watching coded i love her so much
disaster: abed. or britta. my abandonment/commitment issues babies <33
best friend: TROBED. THE ONLY BEST FRIENDS EVER
astronomy: would it be absolutely too painful if i said troy and abed. honestly i actually think im feeling more jeff and abed but not like at eachother just both of them together in their sadness, from their pov to someone else (britta and troy probably seeing as these r their main romantic interests)
yours: AHH THIS SONG DEAR GOD </3 can i say abed jesus fuck im killing myself this one for abed hurts so much, not really directed at anyone in specific, or more like just directed at everyone, just his abandonment issues :( ("i dont always see it coming" PUT ME DOWN)
jigsaw: oo britta, my queen she just wants to be loved so bad </3 but also a bit abed ("if being less insane would make you stay" oof)
family line: okay. jeff.he actually invented having daddy issues
summer child: ok its abed bcs i kin him idc, im conans summer child™ and i said so /lh
footnote: not quite sure, very annie coded imo. maybe trobed? either pov ig but im feeling troy
memories: hm, trobed after troy leaves? abed trying to get over him but he keeps imagining troys still there with him like as in one of the hallucinations he has bcs i read a fic like this yesterday and it was sooooo good, idk maybe this is a little far fetched
the exit: im not rlly sure actually, either jeffbritta after the whole i love you in front of anyone fiasco or trobed when troys dating britta 🤷♂️
never ending song: ok, jeffbritta.
winner: THE MOST SONG EVER. ok this one is abed. it will always be abed. family line i feel like is more about a hostile home enviroment and jeff implies that his was, while winner is more pain of neglect or disconnect so i feel like its more appliable to abed because of how hes shown to not be understood by his parents and feels responsible for his mother leaving and this makes me think of the line "you dont really wanna hear the truth, do you?" because like his mum loving him on paper but not actually loving who he is or be willing to accept hes different and has different needs FUCK abeds mother all my homies hate abeds mother (what im not projecting at all my parents definitely love me and accept that im autistic /s)
killing me: im not quite sure actually. conan did write this song about someone who gave him tonsilitis and abed cannonically had tonsilitis though so 🤯
lonely dancers: hmm i feel like this song is upbeat enough to be trobed being silly tgth but maybe its more jeffbritta coded, or jeff and abed abt britta and troy, or vice versa, not sure
sorry i never mentioned shirley i do love her
feel free to take any of these as platonic or romantic idrk, a lot of them i couldve meant either way anyway
if u even made it this far u can have a gold star ⭐️ there u go
#i should do this for stranger things too#alex says shit#alex is an idiot#jeff winger#abed nadir#troy barnes#greendale community college#britta perry#annie edison#jabed#trobed#abedison#jeffbritta#redstreet#wtf is troy and brittas ship called#troy and abed#troy and annie#idfk#nbc community#community#the study group#conan gray#superache#kid krow#sunset season

i know new york being the ancestral homeland of jews is a joke but as a jew from europe it literally feels that way. like i cannot imagine like a whole street written in hebrew. like i want to go there just to see that. i dont think jews inthe united states are aware of how good they have it
i do want to note that america is also a settler colonial state and its only because of specific american aims of the settler project and material realities of the economy and the physical land they were trying to settler that theyve had this “melting pot” ideology where jews were incorporated similarly to italian and irish immigrants, instead of continuing to have deeply ingrained religious and cultural antisemitism like europe. there were in some periods of us history more restrictions on jewish immigration and some institutional barriers for jews, especially before and during ww2, but never to the same degree as europe. although american jews were rarely (if ever, i dont know any examples but there could be some) violent genocidal settlers like the anglos and generally migrated later, we were still settlers searching for economic interests provided by american expansion on native land. that being said were here now and have the status of any other american settler (meaning people who arent indigenous or descended from enslaved people brought here against their will) most indigenous theorists and activists maintain that they want sovereignty, reparations, companies to stop destroying native land, etc, not every american settler to leave. i really believe that the united states also must fall, but i dont think this makes us like not belonging, at least any more than the other settlers.
i just want to say this to explain that my love for new york and the east coast us is complex. objectively the multicultural and cosmopolitan aspects of nyc that make it unique are products of american imperialism– for example nyc is the most linguistically diverse city in the world! over 600 languages are spoken here, including languages that arent spoken anywhere else anymore, but think about why that is. and the flourishing of jewish communities and culture in parts of the us was a product of specific historic processes and policies, and we like any other descendants of settler-immigrants have to grapple with that. i think its possible to oppose and fight against american imperialism and settler colonialism and still deeply appreciate the contradictory aspects of culture in america. (which lbr all the dynamic and interesting and worth preserving things about american culture were not created by anglos, but by outsiders and oppressed people) anyways this is all just to say im really not coming at it from a nationalist perspective but a diaspora perspective but yeah, new york is such a jewish city its genuinely incredible. this is why i especially despise tri state area zionists... youre ignoring that you live in the greatest place in the world for jews. literally the most jewish city in the world. like theres a moving company called schleppers here, yiddish words are part of everyones dialect, you can get the best jewish food everywhere from delis that are like 100 years old, we literally have a truck called the mitzvah tank that chabad drives around and asks people on the street if theyre jewish. the only romaniote synagogue in the western hemisphere is here and they have a greek jewish festival every year (which unfortunately is always covered in israeli flags -_-) the whole foods by one of my work sites had a sign up for yom kippur catering because the neighborhood is so jewish.
jewish culture and history and jews in general are just part of the fabric of life in new york. also whatever street youre talking about was probably written in yiddish since thats what most of the hassidic jews speak here! nyc has the largest concentration of yiddish speakers, which isnt surprising, and its the 8th most spoken language in nyc. theres also a big and still growing bukharian community here too. if you ever can, i really recommend visiting new york. theres so much jewish culture and history here. a lot of american jews live much more isolated, so i cant speak for them, but for many parts of the north east i feel that were lucky. antisemitism exists here but idk ive grown up in pretty jewish areas and never really experienced it. europe sounds legitimately shitty. also... fun fact, netanyahu went to high school in the suburbs outside of philly
^my photos in the lower east side, and heres some photography of hassidic williamsburg too
also williamsburg

I have some questions abt hellenic polytheism and how its practiced. I myself have been practicing it for a while, but something I noticed while researching about it is a distinct lack of actual greek people in online social media spaces. It was first brought to my attention after seeing a reddit post and youtube video explaining how using “hellenismos” is considered cultural appropriation. After that, Ive noticed how the main sources Ive used about hellenic polytheism isnt really from the people whos culture were trying to practice. AKA non greeks.
I would like to know your explanations on the basics of hellenic polytheism like altars/shrines, khernips, prayers, devotees, tarot/oracle cards, pendulums, kharis, and offerings. There might be some knowledge that I got wrong and need to change, like maybe the way I give offerings needs fixing and I need to give more perishable offerings like food than handmade crafts like art for apollo. And maybe theres a spicic way to do it and not just place it on the altar. Other than websites like hellenicfaith.com, r/hellenism is usually my main source with a grain of salt because of the strange lack of greeks in discussions, and although my friend who is also practicing hellenic polytheism gives me a lot of advice, their main sources are tiktok and. Well, I dont think I need to explain why thats a bad source. (Their main justification is “of course tiktok isnt that serious” and “it comes from the pagans themselves”)
Also, Im also curious on your thoughts about people who practice in secret.
I hope this isnt too long, I just wanna make sure Im using a better source than reddit because, well, its reddit. Not the most reliable source.
Hello! If you don't mind I will also address two more questions I got on the matter, since I feel they are related to yours. They are the following:
Hello all! You did very well to seek Greek sources because you are essentially dealing with a foreign culture and it's not right to assume it looks just like your local one. I will guide you as much as I can but I am very open to being corrected by knowledgeable Greeks and xenoi alike because I am not an infallible scholar. As always, my posts are open to additions in case I missed something.
Let me start by saying I believe it's important to focus on the living Greeks as well, in parallel to your studies of ancient religious texts. Not only were our ancient people diverse with various opinions but... they are also dead and cannot speak anymore. So, it's the alive Greeks who now handle and pass down the culture. If something gives the ick to modern Greeks, it probably goes against what the culture considers appropriate or strange.
Greeks will get "the ick" even if they are not well-read on ancient Greek customs, because the Greek culture largely holds its philosophy when it comes to worship. Disclaimer: This is not an unbroken rule, as some of our cultural elements have shifted or changed, as it happens to all cultures around the globe, and also because a Greek does not know everything. But it's good to keep that general statement in mind.
An example of a practice not seen favorably by Greeks nowadays is some Western women practitioners covering their heads because of Hellenic Polytheism. The ancient faith may demand it but the veil was forced a lot on Greek women and collectively we believe it doesn't make any sense to wear it, even in scenarios of faith tied to our culture. Now, that doesn't mean that it's any of our business if a Hellenic Polytheist wants to veil but it'd be good for this person to have knowledge of the history and rights of Greek women, and really evaluate why they want to veil beyond "the ancients did it", since Greek culture is largely disagreeable to that practice now. Find a larger discussion on veiling here.
Also please capitalize the first letter of Apollo's name because this shows proper respect ;)
Let's dive into specifics a little bit. Our culture was and is practical and anthropocentric. It takes into account reality and environment, as well as human nature.
For the anthropocentric aspect: Yes, there are general guidelines because we are talking about a tradition here but no one will take your head if you do it a bit differently. As for the practical aspect: if you give non-perishable items to the gods by putting them on their altar, in 10 years you won't have a space in your house to stand. If they are non-perishable you have no reason to remove them. Because if you remove them is like taking back offerings that were meant for the deity.
The offerings of Greeks in Polytheism and Christianity included perishable items such as food, candles/oil lamps, flowers, incense, libations, etc. And since they go bad you have a reason to remove them. But you also don't want any waste on the streets or in your house. Even the sacrificed animals were meant to be eaten, and the Greek communities believed that the smell of roasted meat made the gods rejoice. In some cases, offerings that were left outside were meant to be consumed by the homeless and travelers. Everything has a purpose and a reason within that specific community. (Flowers not so much, they are just ornamental)
It's not that you cannot or should not offer non-perishable items to the gods. I'm sure a few don't hurt anyone. Just keep in mind that if the offering is a non-perishable item it is/was usually offered to the temple, so the priests can sustain themselves and continue doing their religious service on behalf of the community. We are talking about coins, clothing, jugs, animals, or whatever else.
Continuing on the matter of offerings. A small rant on how clueless some people seem to be about offerings. It would be weird to knit a winter scarf for a god and then wear it yourself because that's not how dedication/devotion works in the Greek context. Also, leaving that winter scarf on the altar doesn't make sense either because it's just… impractical in the Greek sense. You are wasting a scarf, to put it plainly. But if you make something for one deity then give it to the deity, don't wear it yourself.
I'll tackle a few more specifics now. I think you already know what they mean so I will give my opinion on them rather than explaining them. I think my opinion is shared by many Greeks.
hellenismos -> I am not sure if it's appropriation but it's surely inaccurate. Here is why, for those who wonder, with some suggestions on how to call yourself. (hint: Hellenic Polytheist is fine)
on how to be respectful and accurate: I always recommend reading as many ancient Greek texts as possible the view of the gods directly from the ancient worshipers themselves. You can read whatever texts interest you, including plays. Plays are my favourite source, to be honest. Understand on your own what the text says. The Hymn to Demeter is focused on the pain of a mother, which is pretty obvious, you are under no obligation to hear Kate the TikToker who insists on something different. You don't have to hear YouTubers who tell you Zeus is an asshole when ancient texts show us the opposite, and give a good context on why he does what he does.
altars/shrines -> The altars I've seen are usually fine, so I think western polytheists have this down. The ancient ones would be more homogenous but in our era the religion is unorganized so it's up to the individual to create an altar. Greeks still have altars in their homes as a continuation of our polytheist practices and they also have some variation. Generally, all good here.
khernips -> χέρνιψ literally translates to "washer of hands". It's a Greek practice to have clean hands before touching any sacred objects, either in Dodekatheism or in Christianity. We do not always follow it but it's important. Our old custom is also to wash hands, face, and feet before entering our Christian temples (that's why there are κρήνες outside many of them) but that's not practiced anymore because our hygiene is overall better and we already visit the temple while clean.
The cleansing part will feel natural for most Greeks and not unfit for the whole procedure. You can also cleanse items with water if the purification ritual says so. Don't lose sleep over it. Remember practicality. Khernips is just water with which you wash your hands and you can do it before a meal, like we do today. It is meant to keep you clean but doesn't bear any spiritual force - it's not like the holy water of Christians which is imbued with divine power. It's just water included in a practice that helps the religious person get ready for spiritual time.
Also! Khernips doesn't mean that you wash the whole body! It's second part, νήβω / nivo = rub is connected to cleaning body parts. For the cleanliness of the whole body we used/use "λούω / λούζω". Fun fact, on of the greatest christian temples Hagia Sofia, had a reminder outside the gate with the same verb, and it was an anagram. "ΝΙΨΟΝ ΑΝΟΜΗΜΑΤΑ ΜΗ ΜΟΝΑΝ ΟΨΙΝ", meaning "wash your sins, too, not just your face". This anagram is found in other Christian sites, as well.
prayers -> Any prayer is good. There are only a few ways a prayer can go "wrong", since there's not a subscription for that. For example a prayer has to usually praise the magnanimity of the deity, even if you are just doing it to ask something, but words from the heart are also fine. Zeus won't smite you if you include him in a phrase without praising him first.
devotees -> Afaik this was a rare phenomenon in antiquity and it's only nowadays that Westerners decided that everyone is a devotee, which looks weird to Greeks because being a devotee doesn't work exactly like Westerners do it. You don't get to pick one god, talk 99% of the time about that god, or worship just them and not recognize the whole pantheon, or just give little attention to them.
Ancient Greek towns and people had gods they were closer to, for sure, but from what I know they didn't have the same concept as modern foreign worshipers today. They were not "αφιερωμένοι"/devoted, unless they devoted their life to a deity by serving in their temple. The devoted/devotees were not everyday people.
The everyday people felt closer to some gods in the way someone can have a saint or a prophet that they align themselves with, that they feel like they can see themselves on them, or that these gods see them, or that they are related to their struggles, or have given them some sort of protection. A cultivator of vineyards will probably feel closer to Dionysus, while a fisherman to Poseidon, and a warrior to Ares. It's the same for Christian Greeks, since each of the saints has one domain and we call on them depending on our needs.
I mean, it's okay if modern people want to make new things, but we should also be clear on the nature of the ancient practice.
tarot/oracle cards, pendulums -> They are unrelated to the practice. They are just recent elements of western spiritual fascination, and the ancient Greek religion is already complete without them. If Apollo chooses to reveal himself through tarot he may as well reveal himself on a toaster xD A toaster is as related to the ancient Greek religion as much as tarot cards.
kharis -> Some Westerners overhype foreign words that are, in reality, very simple terms. Kharis is just "the grace of god" and the concept is similar to the grace spoken in Christianity, Islam and Hinduism. Kharis is not lost if you forget to wash your hands once, or if you are afraid that the item you placed on the altar is not good enough. You don't have to tiptoe around it, it's not something incomprehensible and mystical.
miasma -> Nobody asked for it but I am delivering it anyways because I see many new people to the religion treat miasma like they are 5th-century Greeks who will be punished by the plague if they menstruate too close to the altar. I've seen endless discussions online about what miasma is and all the detailed ways that you can avoid it, and how to cleanse everything and... as a 21st-century practitioner you are not supposed to be that fearful. In the Πλυντήρια festival, the statue of Athena goddess was washed clean but also cleansed metaphorically by people's sins. And you can cleanse your statues as well of course but not with the mindset of considering yourself unclean. Do not follow every advice from ancient people who thought women unclean when menstruating. Ironically, this post and this post from r/hellenism have a good approach to this. As one user says:
people who practice in secret -> I don't have particular thoughts for them. If they must hide their spirituality for reasons beyond their control, it's natural for them to do so. I wish them the best in their spiritual journey.
Take a look at my F.A.Q. page, and more specifically on these questions:
Can I worship the Greek gods as a xenos (non-Greek)?
What do Greeks think of people outside of Greece worshiping the Greek gods?
Reading List / Book recommendations on Greek Mythology
Are the Greek gods assholes? // What’s up with gods coupling with mortal women?
Also, when it comes to the practices of the ancient Greek religion, Google Scholar is your friend. Read a variety of scholars and please include Greek ones on your reading list. Western academia focuses a lot on what the myth means to The West today, while Greek academia focuses on what the myths meant in their time. Some classical students report that studying classics in Greece VS in the US can be night and day, and they got a more authentic feeling from the knowledge they gained from the Greek classes.
For gods, festivals, and rituals in Greece, I have some recommendations below, if you’d like to take a look! (The links open directly to them so you can read them for free)

p.s., I call Christian temples "temples" because that's how we call them. We use ναός very frequently for our religious buildings.
I hope I covered your questions so far 💙😊 See you around, and have a great day!

I started typing and it got out of control...
I don't know if you've watched Ever After High or not, but I've been re-watching the entire show on account of not having much to do and I've come to the conclusion that an LU crossover with EAH would be absolutely awesome. The general idea is that characters from fairytales grow up and have kids that re-enact their parents' stories and this happens over and over again to the point that their entire society is built around this. Since they have a magic book that kind of seals your fate if you sign it, this is where the conflict of the show comes from.
Obviously there are a few different ways a person could go about setting this up but I'm just going to pick out fairy tale parents and backstories for them because I think that's the most fun.
Warriors: I'm thinking that he'd be best as Helen of Troy. Greek mythology is canon in EAH because of Cupid, so it works. The same themes of lust and infatuation are present. Also war.
Wild: He fits Sleeping Beauty's story the most, but that's already taken so the next best thing is Rip Van Winkle. It's only 20 years compared to 100, but I think it's the closest I'm getting for now, and the point is that he wakes up as an old man.
Sky: I think he should be the guy from the jabberwocky poem that uses the vorpal sword to defeat it. The jabberwocky is supposed to be the most powerful monster in EAH last I checked, so it would be the closest equivalent to Demise other than the Evil Queen.
Legend: Given that wizards are supposed to live a long time, Merlin would be a good fit for Legend because he'd have a few centuries to finish growing up into a mature wizard. He could still be a veteran of adventures this way without sacrificing his magical abilities.
Twilight: Unfortunately there aren't really any stories about wolves that aren't villains so he's tragically stuck being a non-descript farmer. I'm so sorry. Under other circumstances he'd get to be one the guy from "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" except that guy is a bear and not a wolf.
Wind: I'm torn between picking an infamous pirate or a story from mythology. Either one would probably work, to be honest, but it would probably work better if Tetra was a pirate's daughter and he's related to a deity in charge of ocean storms.
Hyrule: Ended up picking Jack the Giant Killer for him because that story's about surviving because you're clever, and Hyrule's games are supposed to be ridiculously hard. Also there's a magic sword involved.
Four: With the Minish he could totally fit into the story about the little elves that help the tailor/cobbler. But there's a story called "The Four Skillful Brothers" and I can't say no because it literally ends with them rescuing the princess via teamwork and splitting the reward.
Time: I feel like he'd fit in best as some kind of forest spirit or changeling, but as the Hero's Shade he could also be Godfather Death. I've been thinking about it and I really can't come up with a good placement for him.
Spirit Tracks Link gets an honorary mention because he is canon in my heart. Since New Hyrule is in the middle of the industrial revolution he's probably more of an urban legend. Either the ghost of a train conductor's kid or a guy cursed to see ghosts like his Zelda.
I know nothing about ever after high but im obsessed with what you’ve just said to me oh my god
first of all anytime someone draws the connection between Wars and Helen of Troy I loose my mind a bit, one day when I have the proper brain capacity and time I’m going to write a whole ass analysis paper on the comparison between the two of them because its so important to me
ALSO JABBERWOCKY MENTION??? I’M OBSESSED. AND JACK THE GIANT KILLER FOR HYRULE?? dude I can see you spent sooo much time thinking about this and oh my god I am so obsessed this is really cool, you ate

This whole Greek thing should probably be put to bed, it's completely derailed the question from the original post, but I think the point of the previous person's defense of academics is being completely lost here, and also was in the replies to their previous anon.
They're specifically talking about historical, not present, aspects of a culture. That's why they pointed out that Greek mythology hasn't been the religion of Greece in thousands of years. I think it is more than fair to say a non-[ethnicity] academic who has spent years studying a particular part of that country or group's HISTORY likely knows more about THAT HISTORY than just a random person who is living in that country or part of that group now.
To use the Japanese example since they brought it up: Would it be controversial to say that a British/Ethiopian/Chinese/American/Argentine/etc. academic who specifically has a Ph.D. in history (or East Asian studies or whatever) and does research on 19th-century Japanese history, likely knows more about the Meiji Restoration than some random Japanese Tumblr user who does not have any educational background in history beyond what everyone learns in grade school there? I feel like hardly anyone would take issue with that, and that's a lot closer to what's being argued here, except here we are talking about an even more distant time period.
Or like, let's flip this: would non-historian Brits here disagree that a non-British academic who specifically studies, say, the English Civil War likely knows more about it than they do?
That's very very different from saying that people have a different expertise and experience of *current* aspects of that culture - where yeah, academics should respect that expertise that comes from actually living in and directly experiencing that culture (and though it's had issues with that in the past and still has some issues, IME academia these days generally tries to do that - a lot of what people who study current cultures "study" is just talking to people who live in that culture, recording what they say and analyzing that. It's not always perfect, but I think there's a bit of a strawman being made out of academics by people in some of the replies who aren't actually as familiar with that kind of study as they think they are and are drawing on cultural stereotypes, similar to the "historians hate queer people" shit that circulates on Tumblr from time to time).
(Also, let's not pretend that there isn't a history on Tumblr of people playing the game of "I know X history because I'm of X ethnicity" and no other qualifications, and then saying stuff that's verifiably wrong)
That said, even with current aspects of the culture, not all of it is created equal. Someone brought up "it's like weaboos acting like they are experts on Japanese culture" (or something like that) and yeah that's stupid, but along with that there is a big difference between someone who studies something as academic research and just watching a lot of anime, there ARE non-Japanese people who study anime both in academia, and outside of it but with similar degrees of intensity, who probably know more about *anime specifically* than your average Japanese person off the street. Most anime isn't all that "mainstream" in Japan, and it's also an art form and industry with its own convoluted history and standards and practices that require lots of specialized focus to *fully* understand for *anyone.* It's not that different from saying that like, a Japanese film studies professor who focuses on Hollywood film likely knows more about the U.S. film industry than your average American off the street.
I think a lot of how people talk about culture on here doesn't really take into account the complexities of all the different pieces that make up a culture, and that they're not all one and the same.

You’re the entire circus
(guys english is not my native language, so this might look weird and im very sorry for any mistakes that ive made and the style in general. tw: it seems a bit a yandere)
Bunny Corcoran being sliiiiiiightly obsessed with you wold look like:
OH BOI that escalated quickly.
He noticed you first and took action immediately.
Let's be honest, Marion was not the brightest, although their relationship was kinda wholesome (up to a certain point). However, I think that, aside from the mother figure thing, Bunny is also desperately looking for a way to join that subculture that the rest of the club fits in so naturally. He kinda uses you as a key to this world; Imagine you two are in the library, you patiently explain something to him and oddly enough he listens carefully (whoever witnesses this is left in a slight shock).
Hungry for your praise. This vicious circle goes on and on, he plays on pity with endless whining, you give up and say something comforting or affectionate, he swallows it greedily and asks for more, more, more. (Please validate him).
Steals your stuff constantly and it's a PROBLEM. Say goodbye to a bunch of your hair ties, lipstick tubes and earrings. You'd be willing to swear someone looked in the underwear drawer too.
Remember the period when the greek geeks were secretly watching Bunny, and he was not so secretly following them? Yes. He's too bulky and awkward to be an invisible stalker like Richard, but that doesn't stop him. His rabbit ears are always somewhere nearby.
If Bunny thinks that someone is pestering his baby, then he is right there, already wedged into the conversation, voice raised fists throwing. Actually, that's the reason why you don't get to talk to the guys on campus at all, because he always reads the situation as threatening. By the level of jealousy, perhaps, he can be compared with Henry, and that level is very high.
Being rather conservative person, he will most likely try to get you into a relationship as soon as possible. If he succeeds, he will become a little tamer (but also bolder at the same time). If his hand is not on your shoulder, then it is on your waist. Instantly starts going around calling you “Mrs. Corcoran” and introduces you to his insufferable family.
Oh so you decided to reject him? Well, it's time to find out just how annoying he can be (spoiler there’s no limit). Whatever unstable peace you had is over, he just can’t leave you alone. If for some reason you’re not in the greek class, Bunny skips his lectures shamelessly to follow you and give you another headache.
Tl dr Bunny is not that dangerous, but you have no personal space now. His stubbornness and energy are incomparable.
‘So it really seemed like a good idea to you?’ you ask coldly. ‘Steal someone else's breakfast and eat it in front of everyone? You thought I didn't recognize the box?’
At first Bunny pretends to not understand, and does not even stop chewing on a pancake generously covered with maple syrup. He looks at you thoughtfully (brows furrowed, Latin textbook is pressed to your chest like a shield), then lowers his gaze and suddenly smiles charmingly.
‘Ah, so it's yours. I should have guessed. You're from Montreal, you probably don't eat anything there without a couple of buckets of this slurry. Well, there's one more left, care to join me?’
He's lying. Not only he did know that it was your breakfast, he's been deliberately choosing your box for several weeks (he obviously takes some strange pleasure in thinking that you cooked this food with your own hands). You could have easily exposed his shenanigans, if there was even a shred of hope that this circus would stop.
‘Go to hell’, you wave your hand wearily and sit beside him. ‘Bunny, if you're starving, just say so. We’ll start a charity fund. I think it should be enough for you at least for a couple of months’.
He snorts, wiping the crumbs on his sleeve, and deftly puts his hand on the back of the bench behind you. That's it, you're now sitting like a cute couple, only a cocktail with two straws is missing. You pick up a a fork absentmindedly, then take a small bite. Perhaps the syrup was indeed superfluous.
‘How is your Latin? The last translation was a tricky one’, he asked casually, and if you didn’t know him so well you might have thought that he had actually done it.
You wrinkled your nose as you opened your textbook to a bookmarked page, and Bunny reached for it eagerly. Immediately, you lightly slapped him on the palm of his hand: ‘Hey, wash your hands first. The last one you say?’
‘Actually’, he coughed shyly, ‘the third one would also be nice to check’.
You open the first exercise without asking any more questions. You want to get mad at Bunny, and he obviously tries his best to help you with this, but in vain: he’s just too sweet in his spontaneity. Di immortales, if only he wasn't so annoying! Last week you caught him waist-deep in your locker, and five minutes later you forgave him from the bottom of your heart.
Luckily for him, that night Bunny was too busy breaking into your room while being drunk and then had a long argument with your roommate Anika, and then fell asleep peacefully in the hallway.
He never knew what fatum had not befallen him.

1, 2, 19 for delta and paris and lorelai :)
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO
delta
1.) How did you choose their name?
oh finally i get a chance to talk about this. im actually SOOOO proud of these names like not cause they're ingenious or anything i just think they seem so fitting to me. like he looks like his name is delta. and i like how they sound when i say them.
as for how i chose it..... it's just a fun and common living weapon convention to only have a number or code for a name! empire is based on greco-roman traditions so Delta as a part of the greek alphabet seemed fun.
2.) Were they created for the story, or was the story created for them?
destroyer was created for delta :)
this is another thing i was waiting to talk about and im glad i finally have the chance. the original conception for this entire universe is actually centered around delta's GIRLFRIEND. who has not even appeared in the story yet and will likely have pretty minimal involvement when she does.
delta was originally conceived as one of several love interests for this girl. destroyer was literally just his mysterious and tragic backstory. he was a very minor character but one of my favorites and i had a lot of fun writing his backstory and i decided it'd be fun to actually explore it in depth. and here we are! lmfao
19.) Does your character having any health issues, whether they're aware of them or not?
oh this is a good question! he gets migraines a lot, that's permanent. i don't think there's much else surprisingly enough. probably some sleep issues and general symptoms of chronic stress and c-PTSD.
paris
1.) How did you choose their name?
again im super proud of this for no reason i just love how it sounds. he's named after paris of troy. part of that is deliberate coding with the illiad but the other part of it is just that it sounds nice. he's also named after the city because it has reputations for being simultaneously elegant and trashy <3
i also really like how theyre both kind of androgynous/slightly effeminate sounding names. they're both gendered pretty ambiguously imo.
2.) Were they created for the story, or was the story created for them?
paris, on the other hand, was created for the story. i definitely struggled more w him and i think that shows a bit in the earliest parts of destroyer, he was a pretty two-dimensional character who just needed to fulfill the role as "whumper". but i ended up getting very attached to him and i feel like he ended up being kind of a show stealer.
19.) Does your character having any health issues, whether they're aware of them or not?
yeah paris got hit in the chest with an arrow so he has some issues. he gets fatigued a lot quicker than he used to and he has some minor nerve damage. the drugs dont help.
lorelai
1.) How did you choose their name?
lorelaiiiiiii. it just sounds nice right? i wanted her to sound kind of folksy and cute and feminine. i think it was originally inspired by Laura Lee from yellowjackets. i mostly choose names just based off intangible vibes and how they sound when you say them. my brain conjures them up.
2.) Were they created for the story, or was the story created for them?
lorelai was also created for the story! she kinda snuck in there actually, i didn't expect her to become as important as she would be but i thought it'd be interesting for paris to have a crush on and admire someone who's such an unceasingly good person and better than him in every single way. she serves a really important role in destroyer cause she's the only one who will actually call paris out on his shit and the only one who will acknowledge how fucked up delta's situation is. she's the best girl in the world aaaaaaaaghhhhh.
i do worry about her coming across as just a love interest and that's something i want to avoid. but she was conceived as paris's foil so she kind of has to exist in relation to him. at the same time i want her to have her own personality and goals and destiny. so they were both created for destroyer, but crash out was created for them.
19.) Does your character having any health issues, whether they're aware of them or not?
no i think she's pretty healthy! i don't know anything about health but i think her lifestyle of like. rolling in dirt and picking up heavy things and eating a lot of fresh produce puts her on a pretty good path! she does do drugs and smokes cigarettes though lol im sure she has issues w shortness of breath and maybe heart palpitations.

HI GUYS IM POSTING ON SUNDAY INSTEAD OF SATURDAY!! Sorry. Back with a review of “The Sunbearer Trials” by Aiden Thomas
Hello, Tumblrians! It’s been a while since I’ve made a review, I’m sorry about that. Alas, only two weeks after school, my mom took me down to the South to go visit some family 😔it was lowkey miserable! 2/10 don’t recommend I got gaslit so many times lmao
SORRY FOR NOT POSTING ON SATURDAY😭I was very busy! I’m gonna try to stop making self-imposed deadlines, because a) I literally never follow through with them so they read like empty promises, b) I get last-minute anxiety paralysis and never upload.
Anyways! Here’s a review of a queer book, because they probably would’ve been restricted in the state I was in. Maybe not banned per say, but definitely not accepted with open arms. The only open arms we’re getting in South Carolina are guns, and dear old Uncle Dave pretending he’s asking me for a hug and not forcing me to do it out of moral/familial obligation. Sorry.
Not really any Book Discovery Backstory for this one, except for that I wanted to get around to reading every single Aiden Thomas book. And this was originally meant to be for the Trans Rights Readathon, but I got tired and gave up! Oops.
The Sunbearer Trials is the book in question! For once, its advertising is pretty accurate: Think The Hunger Games’ nail-biting (and televised) battle royale, mixed with the demigod folklore and plot aspects of Percy Jackson (but make it gods of Mexican instead of Greek/Roman mythology)! Teo, a Semidiós transgender teen(son of Quetzal, the god of birds), because of his Jade status, doesn’t expect to be chosen as a competitor in The Sunbearer Trials: a group of deathly games played by Semidiós teens, where the lowest-ranking has the “greatest honor” of all—be sacrificed in order to fuel the Sun’s power and keep the Obsidian evil gods at bay. However, that doesn’t mean Teo’s worried about others: his friend Niya, the higher-ranking Gold daughter of Tierra, is one of the strongest heroes of their generation and dangerously likely to be chosen. So he’s in for a nasty surprise when two Jades get selected for the games this year, one being Xio, the thirteen year-old son of Mala Suerte, and Teo. Now the two of them must compete in five mysterious trials, against far more powerful opponents, for glory, pride and their own survival.
For a book with that intense of a summary, I wasn’t expecting for it to be as humorous and fun as it was? But I’m kinda glad for that, because hundreds of pages of just on-page child death will inevitably get emotionally taxing. So, I found this to be a very enjoyable read! I liked the descriptions of food!!(don’t read this on an empty stomach), and our character dynamics, which I was pleasantly surprised by because I usually dislike or outright hate books with large casts! Aiden Thomas definitely had his priorities straight on the characters to center though, and although we got to know a bit about everyone, it didn’t feel like there was too little or too much time spent with anyone. It didn’t feel crowded, basically.
Not to be that book account, but we also got a bit of rivals to lovers, with Aurelio and Teo! I was a little on-the-fence about it at first because, you know, tropes, but I ended up growing to like the genuine bond they developed amidst the trials. Also, Aiden Thomas just has a way with writing gay yearning I think!
With all that said, although this book was a fun read, it felt juvenile at times. If some of the cursing or sexual humor was cut out, it could definitely pass as a middle grade. Personally, I don’t like middle grades, so this was disappointing to me especially considering how dark the summary is? Some of the lines (particularly Niya’s) were so corny or cringey I had to laugh. Add that to this being in a modern world, and I take critical damage from being reminded that memes and vine coexist with demigod death games in this book.
Anyhow! Overall, this was an enjoyable (even if flawed) read. As you guys should know, I love culturally rich stories, and I loved the Mexican parts of the settings and story. And if you read the summary for that and thought to yourself “hey! That sounds right up my alley”, I’m not stopping you from checking it out. I’ll also be reading the sequel, because there was a hell of a cliffhanger.
Book rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½ stars/5. Finished 04/05/2023.
(Book content/trigger warnings: fire/fire injury, child death(on-page), violence+blood, bullying, gender dysphoria.)
-Paz, signing off!

im watching a series of videos that show the pandaemonium story bc it'll probably be quite some time before i clear it but i would like to know whats going on NOW!!!
i finally encountered the line themis says about his parents. it's related to him saying that extreme emotions toward one person specifically are rare.
i'm pretty sorely tempted to call BS on this. not necessarily his indifference toward his parents - i HC this as the case, although for a different reason - but the idea that strong feelings for another individual in general are like, uncommon for ancients. it is so clearly not true. like, look at how strongly hythlodaeus and emet-selch feel about each other! or how strongly hermes feels about meteion and the former fandaniel!
i think it does sort of slot well into my headcanon of elidibus being much, MUCH better at conforming to the demands of ancient society than eurydice, and eurydice at points hampering his ability to function within their society in order to allow elidibus to better conform. eury would have had a lot of anxiety about elidibus meeting his same fate as someone who is ádúnatos (my cool word i googled from classical greek for someone who cannot perform creation magic). elidibus isn't ádúnatos, but i think eurydice would have been terrified of the idea of him being ostracized and suffering for it anyway, so i think in the sense of having a pretty mild temperament and being very talented magically on top of having eurydice trying to steer him "right," elidibus conforms much more easily than like, pretty much any other character we've seen so far to these kind of weird ancient standards that like, no ancient actually fully lives up to.
also in MY VERSION OF EVENTS <- real true genius, i think elidibus just doesn't really process that he DOES have such personal attachments himself, namely to his older brother and the other members of the convocation.
