Hello! Hope you're having a great day/night! I absolutely adore your art, you are one of my favourite artists. I love the way you shade and do backrounds. Also everytime I get into a new show I immediately see your art for it??
I was wondering if you had any advice on drawing more realistically (backrounds, anatomy etc) but still keeping a style?
Hey hey!
Thank you so much!
I have a pretty good understanding of facial structures, because before I got into drawing more semi-realisticly, I heavily focused on realistic portraits. Here are some example, these are from around 2019!
(yes, I was really into danmei and kpop back then, haha)
I just always loved drawing/painting faces and it was all I did. But at some point I realized that I wanted to do more than that because just portraits felt super restricting. So it took me around 2-3 years to somewhat find my style. Thought it would be fun to show a little timeline! Advice will follow afterwards :)
2020
I began working on my OCs in 2020 and since I didn't have an exact reference to work off of, I struggled a lot. My art from this year is super wonky.
2021
Still wonky, but the Lokius obsession was the jumpstart into finding my style! My work from this year is all over the place haha, I was experimenting a lot.
2022
This first ofmd piece is pretty much the first drawing where you can see where my style is gonna go, which I think is pretty cool! This is the year I made the biggest progress cos I was drawing SO much. These two pieces are only six months apart. The one on the right was the first time I gave drawing a background a proper go, too! It was a good year.
2023
And this is where I am now! I'm still constantly learning and improving, but I'd say I have a style you can recognize now!
Now here comes some actual advice, haha:
What I highly recommend you to do is to study your favorite artists as much as you can! I have like 5 A4 sketchbooks all from 2020 that I filled with sooooo many studies, where basically all I did was look at artists I like and copy how they draw stuff, to try and figure out how to stylize certain things. Some of my favorite artists are Ami Thompson, Velinxi and TB Choi. But I also liked to just scroll through pinterest and study all the art I came across that I liked! For example, if I saw a really great drawing of a pair of pants I would copy it many times in my sketchbook and try to learn how they stylized the folds. Doing this for a prolongued period of time will naturally improve your own work! It'll be difficult at first, but you gotta push through, it's gonna be worth it!
I also highly recommend studying unique faces to try and avoid the same-face syndrome. Find some cool looking people and try to draw them as simple as you can! Maybe even draw a little timeline where you first draw them as cartoon-y as you can, and keep going until you end up with a more detailed, realistic drawing. Maybe in the middle of it you find a step that feels the most fun to you, so you can try to build on that! It's a great way to figure out what kind of style might be the best for you.
Here are some cool faces I found on pinterest!
I have a pinterest board with many more!
One REALLY important part of learning how to draw all kinds of things is to understand forms and shapes and how to manipulate them. I have so many pages in my sketchbook filled with just shapes that I drew from all kinds of angles without any references.
This is a great video on it:
6 Ways to Draw Anything by Proko
Learning how to do this is so crucial! Young artists often think they first have to learn all kinds of detailed anatomy before doing anything else, but all that's gonna do is make you tired and hate drawing. Shapes are where it's at! Once you understand how shapes work and which ones to use for certain parts of bodies or objects, drawing is gonna get so much easier! Once you understand them, you can get into details such as muscles and bones!
And honestly the most important point is to just absolutely love what you're doing! I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for the fact that I get extreme hyperfixations on certain media that turn me into some kind of beast where I can suddenly draw 10 detailed illustrations a week, haha. Just be passionate about what you do, find something you REALLY love and go crazy!
I really hope this was somewhat helpful! My inbox is always open if there's any more questions :)
#responding to these has made me realize how much I love helping you guys out#it's genuinely really fun and I just hope it's actually helpful haha#my art#art advice#art resources#ask#anon

Is there a wrong or right way to learn to draw
I was told to keep practicing to learn anatomy by class mode by learning through timing in 30 seconds and that i could learn by learning to draw realistic or that there is a mode I need to draw. I just draw by practicing to draw humans but have no goal. This is how I’m learning to draw humans Just drawing til I like it. Should I have goal? When I draw in 30 days? Or by a time period and then plan it out each time. For learning like is there any correct way to draw? To like your style and reach a professional level?
You're welcome to take my opinions with a grain of salt, since I know I'm more of an outlier when it comes to this topic but--there is no right or wrong way to learn to draw.
Basically, my rule when it comes to drawing and learning is: are you having fun? Yes? Then you're doing it right.
Can you learn to draw by doing figure drawings, anatomy studies, muscle break-downs, etc. Most definitely! I've done lots of studies like that, they can be very helpful.
Can you also learn to draw by jumping from thing to thing, style to style, medium to medium? I mean, if you've seen my art, then you know, haha. I'm not an expert at any one thing, but I'm not too shabby at a lot of things.
From your ask, but feel free to correct me if I'm misunderstanding, it sounds like you're doing what you think you're supposed to do, which can be fine. But if you're not enjoying it, I do want to bring attention to that. It's okay to not study and just draw. It's okay to fiddle around, make junky art, or just explore.
I didn't used to do studies or proper practice--my art journey started with me just drawing my favorite characters because I wanted to draw them. Will it take longer to "get good" this route? Probably. Someone could definitely reach my level much faster than I did (plus, the resources available now are MUCH more plentiful than when I first started!).
But is it about getting good fast? Or is it about getting enjoyment out of life? You could absolutely hunker down and do studies for hours every day, and you could get pretty good pretty fast. But make sure you ask yourself if it's worth it. Stuff like that isn't sustainable for long periods if you hate it. And if you hate it, you might end up teaching your brain to hate art. And I'd MUCH rather you be less good at art, but happy, than be really good, but miserable.
That said, you can definitely set whatever goals you wish. If that helps motivate you and make things fun, then absolutely do it! And as for "liking your style", imo, this is more of a current mindset thing. Just like with 'liking your art'. If you've ever had a goal at something, and you reached that goal, you may have a moment of celebration, but a new goal is often made soon after. That goal post moved. Your ideals moved.
Your art will naturally change and grow over time, and constantly seeing other artists better than us can contribute to us feeling inadequate. No matter how good you get, someone will always be better. That goal post can never be reached.
Instead, try to focus on yourself. Look at your art journey as its own unique thing, not compared to others. You can like your art or your style at any point in your journey. You can want to change your style at any point. Just keep an eye on your mental health. I have two short YT videos on this topic that might help if you need it, here and here. (I don't mean to imply this is easy, but I like to remind others, and myself, when I can, to treat ourselves better!)
This is a very long answer, hopefully some of it made sense at least, I just woke up so my brain is still a little zzzz, haha. But just some food for thought. Best of luck on your art journey :)

Hope you have a great day<3
I have chosen….. Thoma and Ganyu
(Thoma being Romantic and Ganyu being platonic )
Thoma:
Thoma is very caring for you he’s like your male wife :)
he would cook dinners with you, clean the house with you, take you to small places in Inazuma that you didn’t know. He would definitely take great care of you.
he would take care of your hair too (and if you wanted) he would style your hair in plaits and ponytails.
he would love doing pottery with you, watching you spin the clay as he smiles and wipes off some clay that landed on your chin
you two are just so wholesome together, he will learn to love all the things you love and try to please you too.
He would help you accomplish your personal goals, and be there for you when your upset.
He’s so fun and friendly to be around and it’s hard to ever be mad at him because his personality is so easy going.
He will take you to picnics, packing and cooking the food himself making a variety of different stuff for you to try out, then you’ll follow him outside in a nice sunny day as he sits you on the grass and lays out the picnic mat.
Your probably the type of couple to feed eachother in the picnic too, taking small bites from each others spoons and smiling and laughing in amusement together.
He would gift you flowers and small snacks to eat when you’re busy or overworking and would do small gestures for you everyday.
you both like spending quality time with each other.
Thoma opened the door for you as you walked through and smiled. He held the picnic basket in one hand and yours on the other. Your curls bounced lightly on your head as you walked with a confident stride next to Thoma. Both of you walked through the long grass, as you chose a spot to sit in the warm sun and eat your picnic with him . You lay down next to him, both of you gazing into each other’s eyes and eating the food he had prepared just for you. — — — — — — — —
Ganyu:
You and Ganyu started off quite quiet, both of you were shy- soon enough though you became friends and the more you got to know each other the more confident the two of you became
you two have sleepovers together, pyjama parties and then small snacks at midnight- having fun whilst watching movies and maybe attempting to cook something.
you constantly tell Ganyu to stop overworking, and you worry for her tiredness.
being her friend you try hard to let her loosen up a little and have fun, and you might take her to some nice places to visit.
the first time you met cloud retainer you could see Ganyu’s blush of embarrassment as Cloud retainer went on to talk about the stuff Ganyu did as a small child.
sometimes the two of you will walk around some meadows, you know Ganyu really likes the sweet flowers there, But you’re just there to make sure she actually gets to relax and doesn’t overwork too much.
you are Ganyu’s balance just like she is with you.
you’re quite the quick learner and because of this whenever Ganyu shows something new you tend to get a hang of it quiet easily.
you two are besties, whenever Ganyu is in need you come rushing to help her.
Ganyu admires how friendly you are, she likes that about you. She usually gets tired from people or gets drained but you are different.
both of you are INFP’s and because of that you can understand each other and bond with the other emotionally- you and her can understand the others feelings and that’s a really good thing to have.
Ganyu really likes having your company and she’s happy and lucky to have you as her friend.
“Ganyu I told you not to overwork.” You sighed as you saw Ganyu’s poor state. She lay on her desk, her eyes seemed to be closing and her arm lay on the table. She seemed as if she was about to collapse. “ but I need to keep-” “what you need is rest.” Ganyu tried to argue with you but her fatigue seems to have gotten the better of her as she gives in and she lets you take her to bed to rest. you rolled your eyes and smiled, as you saw Ganyu fast asleep in bed, a look of complete peace and serenity covered her face. — — — — — —
I hope you enjoyed reading this anon :)
well that’s all with the third ask if you want to send an ask click here for more details on the event.
Ps: hope you make friends with that guy in art class :)

Hi Steffi. First of all, did you recieve my submission ? Lastly, I wanted to say (read this in a neutral tone, please) that maybe you should wait a bit for the notes on your fanarts (one or two days at least) because sometimes people, like me, simply don't see your fanart right away. For instance, I didn't go on your tumblr until 2 AM "today". Your art is still as good as ever (even better I'd say) and still as much appreciate for my part.
Hey~
Yes I got the submission and I’m working my way through it! Thank you :D
And as to notes on fanart dripping in… I’m merely comparing how things used to be to how things are now. I usually didn’t have to give it one or two days. I get that not everybody is constantly on tumblr and refreshing their feed like a madman *lol* But considering I have 24 thousand people following me, notes did come in quickly at first. They did then dry up after not too long, but I could sometimes get a hundred notes in half an hour. You know what I mean? I’m just operating with the stats of past glory days. And since my follower count keep going up but the amount of notes I get on my art goes down, it does make me wonder why.
Am I just not good enough anymore? Other artists still get notes after all. (And I’m always comparing myself to them. People who draw more realistic stuff, who match the likeness more. Is there no more space for me and my style in fandom?) Do people just generally not want to reblog my stuff/ all stuff anymore? (Yesterday when I went to bed my chocolate Destiel pic had a grand total of 2 reblogs…)
It’s just my insecurities piling up. I thought it’d be fun to post again, but it’s not been so much fun… :C (Drawing is still fun I guess, but I don’t know what the point of drawing and not sharing is…)

Hi- we're aware that you've been tagging us, however I'm not comfortable reblogging your posts when you're using inaccurate and harmful depictions of Hunk in your promo. Hunk has fat on him, has a round, soft face. None of these features are present in your promo artwork; in fact he looks like Shiro but coloured in like Hunk. I'd like to kindly ask if you could please update your post with an accurate depiction of Hunk. (QuiznakChronicle Mod Pidge)
Dear Sedna,
Our sign ups opened on February 13th, almost a month ago. In that time, we’ve received asks from a few different sources.... An anon, and two anti-shippers. You can understand why we did not respond to those asks, especially given that the anon was very rude. We’re sure you know how hard it is to receive the same asks every time when they seem so ill-intentioned.
However, here is our stance on the art: The art is by a participant, and was offered to us by somebody excited to share their work. Hunk in the art in question is visibly older, a little more built than in canon, but still very much a big person. To call him skinny is blatantly disrespectful and well - incorrect! Could he be fatter? Yes. Is the artist in question constantly working on drawing chub, partially out of love for Hunk - yes. Her statement can be found here: https://caihonghoshi.tumblr.com/post/171739121928/these-are-all-pro-wrestlers-that-i-base-hunks And we certainly haven’t disregarded the asks. We’ve actually gone out of our way to ask people in discords (and especially in the event’s discord) and whatnot on their opinions and mostly got “...Maybe? If you squint?” So, therefore, we have found the art well within the bounds of good taste and artistic liberty.
My question is, do you approach every event that uses fanart with the same questions? No doubt it could be raised that the Sheith Bouquet’s art seems to show Shiro with eyeliner rather than a monolid, since it’s in a chibi style; or the art for the Allura Reverse Bang seems to have Allura’s hair be oddly straight or her skin fairly light considering she is a black woman. (To clarify; we don’t think either of these are genuine complaints; but it requires about the same amount of stretching you’re currently doing.) Those events have been featured on your blog just fine. In fact, according to your mission statement in your about, and the answer you did on an ask you received some time ago:
This is not an anti-run event. It’s a ship inclusive event centered on a character - much like the Shiro Big Bang, Lance Flash Bang and Keith Big Bang, all of which have gotten plenty of coverage by QC. It’s not fair to change rules depending on what events are concerned (or, as we are starting to believe, what moderators are involved.)
This mission statement is entirely at odds with your ask, which comes two days before the end of signups. In fact, this mission statement comes after an earlier debacle where a mod had to contact a QC mod by DM to ask why we hadn’t yet been featured, only to be told, completely out of the blue, that we were being punished due to other people asking about it. We were also told by the mod in question that the people asking had all been on anon, which we later discovered was untrue; nearly all of them spoke to us later and said that they had not used anon and had never received private responses, either. Having this occur to us twice - never mind the treatment of one of our mods in several events run by QC mods and their friends - is stretching credibility that this ask is in good faith, especially since lightning never strikes twice in the same place.
IN ADDITION, it hasn’t gone unnoticed that while a certain amount of wait time is reasonable for a blog your size, events run by your moderators or the friends of your moderators never seem to run into this problem. Waiting until the final day to instruct us to find new art - to replace art of one of our participants for an issue that wasn’t apparently big enough for a moderator to actually mention to us - is manipulative and hypocritical. Either antis are the only ones you exclude, or they’re not; putting us in an impossible position when we just so happen to be an event that overlaps with one of your admins’ events is ridiculous.
So no, we will not be changing our art. We have used a diversity of art in our countdown and announcement posts, interspersed with edits. None of them have made Hunk skinny, and to accuse them of doing so is realistically no better than deciding that a 3-6 year age gap is pedophilia. If you would like to continue pretending that this is about fatphobia (even when 3 of the mods deal with fatphobia on a daily basis, with consequences on our health), you’re free to; but I suggest, if you love Hunk so much, letting us continue to promote an event that is one of the only gen-focused, Hunk-centric events in this fandom.
Or you can sink the event, and highly reduce your chances of getting more art of him in the first place since you’ve just told every artist out there that they’re not allowed to even try, and that your blog has now become a chamber of validation of “good” things and not a neutral list of events going on in the fandom. But honestly? We’re not going to let you.
-Alta, Elliott, Miki and Lyri
