LMAO mood tho
Honestly, I don't have super duper strong feelings. I've yet to read KOS or see season 2 of s&b, so I haven't really seen an awful lot of her. That being said, her appearances in season 1 and as a side character in the other books are so iconic and she could step on me any day
#all i really know about her is woahh pretty badass girl and that is enough for me /hj#but i'm excited to read king of scars so i can see more of her!!#jamie answers#the mutuals#bird!

im sending you the same list of headcanons i sent tate a few days ago but I'm facing my anxiety and coming off anon just for you mars you're welcome 😅
So here are your Rayllum head canons on a silver platter 😘:
Sometimes when Rayla’s brain is being mean to her and the ✨trauma✨ is hitting her especially hard or when she’s sad, she reverts to her old mentalities of making herself seem small and hiding her feelings and sometimes she ends up sitting with her knees against her chest in a corner of their bedroom. And Callum finds her like that and doesn’t even question, he just sits down next to her in wordless support until she’s ready to talk or is feeling a bit better.
Anytime Rayla wears a dress and Callum will just be gasping, fumbling for words, speechless and stammering and blushing the whole time and its the funniest thing 🤭
On their wedding day they danced to the same song Harrow and Sarai did.
HAND HOLDING. ALL THE TIME. Reaching for each others hands, when they’re happy, sad, anxious, scared, excited, ALL THE TIME.
And they play with each others fingers. Just absentmindedly but they do.
There’s a scar on Rayla’s shoulder and Callum loves to kiss it. Just gently whenever he can, he’ll give it a little kiss.
Sometimes Ez does something thats so much like their mom (or dad) that after he’s gone (so he doesn’t see) Callum will just burst into tears. And Rayla will pull him into her tiny frame and let him cry against her shoulder and kiss his head until he’s calmed down a little.
In the middle of the night when one of them has had a nightmare and the other person has moved to the other side of the bed, they’ll also move to that side. So in the morning, both of them are cuddling on one side of the bed.
They will both rant/complain to the other. Like one of them will be pacing back and forth just ranting and the other will be sitting on the bed or wherever totally invested in the rant.
three words. MORE STAR-GAZING DATES.
if there's anything else, i'll send it to you 😘
why thank you
i like imagining him walking into the room, seeing her, leaving without a word, coming back with blankets, pillows, and snacks and just curling up next to her to read, all with a completely blank expression
unfortunately she can't wear them that often because the amount of walls callum walks into becomes dangerous
that's beautiful but also i haven't been able to stop thinking about the potential for a parallel between rayllum and tiadrin + lain dancing in the meadow
literally. it's absolutely disgusting /pos
them absent-mindedly observing each other's fingers out of fascination is just so ASDFSAEFJGASHOKJ
i've mentioned this personal hc before but i just know that she has like hundreds of tiny scars and he has memorized ALLLLL of them. he could draw up a map
correct. sad
eventually they get like a big ass california king-sized bed and yet they still sleep like it's a twin
one of em will be talking about how they want to skin some asshole alive and the other will be dreamily gazing at them like "you are so hot 💖"
well yes. they both end up with an encyclopedic knowledge of constellations and everyone else is just like "why do you know that" (to rayla, anyway)
thank you for your service 🫡

A Clash of Kings - 22 CATELYN II (pages 303-320)
Catelyn arrives at Renly's party town in the south and suffers through a feast. Brienne joins the party! (pending)
-
Her fingers seemed more clumsy than usual as she fumbled her clothes. She supposed she ought to be grateful that she had any use of her hands at all. The dagger had been Valyrian steel, and Vaylrian steel bites deep and sharp. She only had to look at the scars to remember.
Valyrian Steel = 🥛🥛
A roar went up from the crowd as a helmetless red-bearded man with a griffin on his shield went down before a big knight in blue armor. His steel was a deep cobalt, even the blunt morningstar he wielded with such deadly effect, his mount barded in the quartered sun-and-moon heraldry of House Tarth.
Oh look, the original Briennesweep. XD BRIENNE!!! HIIIIIII!!!!!
- and to her left Lord Randyll Tarly of Horn Hill, his greatsword Heartsbane propped up against the back of his seat.
... do I drink? they didn't say "Valyrian steel" but they mentioned Heartsbane which we know is a Valyrian steel blade... hmmm no, I'm fairly certain I've never taken a drink just for mentions of Ice, only the words Valyrian steel, so we'll keep going that way.
The rules are fast and loose... like Petyr Baelish's morals... oh wait, if they were like that then they wouldn't actually exist... The rules are fast and loose like Tyrion Lannister's morals. (yeah, that works a little better.)
The girl who shared a seat with him was also of Highgraden: his young queen, Margaery, daughter to Lord Mace Tyrell.
Hi Margaery.
Ser Loras rode a tall white stallion in silver mail, and fought with a long-handled axe. A crest of golden roses ran down the center of his helm.
Okay, we're going to do something new and exciting right now (art!) because I need to share with you how my brain mis-processed those sentences: "fought with a long-handled axe, a crest of golden roses ran down the center " > The axe has roses on it > "down the center of his helm." > Oh no wait the *helm* has roses on it > Loras's helmet has a mohawk made of roses.
This:
Is kind of what I was picturing when I was picturing the rose axe, don't ask why it's double headed, I just really like double headed axes in my fantasy genres, so my brain defaults. (I grabbed a reference picture of a golden rose and copy pasted it because I cannot draw roses for the life of me.)
The steel was polished to such a high sheen that she could see her reflection in the breastplate, gazing back at her as if from the bottom of a deep green pond. The face of a drowned woman, Catelyn thought. Can you drown in grief?
... Hey, did y'all know the twins sit on the Greenfork river? ha. ha. ahhhh, the subtly of "is it really foreshadowing or am I reading backwards into it?"
For the sweet, Lord Caswell's servants brought down trays of pastries from his castle kitchens, cream swans and spun-sugar unicorns, lemon cakes in the shape of roses, spiced honey biscuits and blackberry tarts, apple crisps and wheels of buttery cheese.
Lemon (cakes) = 🥛 It counts, I'm counting it... I'm also really peckish all of a sudden...
"-Why pity?" "Because it will not last," Catelyn answered, sadly. "Because they are the knights of summer, and winter is coming." "Lady Catelyn, you are wrong." Brienne regarded her with eyes as blue as her armor. "Winter will never come for the likes of us. Should we die in battle, they will surely sing of us, and it's always summer in the songs. In the songs all knights are gallant, all maids are beautiful, and the sun is always shining." Winter comes for all of us, Catelyn thought. For me, it came when Ned died. It will come for you too child, and sooner than you like. She did not have the heart to say it.
Amazing use of the Stark words. Poor Brienne, she thinks like Sansa did, they both deserve a world where the world is exactly like they think it is/should be!!! Also, "sooner than you like"... *calculates the number of pages left and compares them to the scenes from the show* yeahhh, about that. (this Cat chapter or next? hmmmm)
"Let us be blunt, my lady. Stannis would make an appalling king. Nor is he like to become one. Men respect Stannis, even fear him, but precious few have ever loved him."
Good thing "well loved" isn't a requirement for being king. you know what really should be though? The ability to DO THE DAMNED JOB!!! Alas, corrupt politics has turned it into a popularity contest with a high entry fee.
"These are no Lannisters, my liege. it's Lord Stannis at your gates. King Stannis, he calls himself now."
Oh look, time for the little boys to stop playing at war and face it for realsies. (I'm sorry, he just. Renly, bothers me, as a person. not just because he abandoned Ned to die because Ned wouldn't support Renly's usurpation, not just because he's a rude piece of work about anyone he's not kriffing (so everyone but Loras) or schmoozing (which is all the lords and ladies and most bestest knight Brienne). It's the inflated sense of self-entitlement, I think.)
Poor Catelyn, she's so soul weary in this chapter, and it's not going to get better. She's doing her best but the world just, urgh.

||Drabble Summary||
The first week is passing along normally with Sukuna still training her but his followers still enjoyed eating off from her. She was already a treat to them but Sukuna was looking interested in what he plans to do for one last task on the final day. But the scared part about it, Melinda has no idea what it will be. If you wanna see what? Read to find out.
||Warning||
~Death is present for a moment
||Guests in the Drabble||
Melinda Brooks belong to me.
Sukuna ryomen (Demon au) belongs to me but comes from the anime jujutsu kaisen. A few other cursed spirits are some of his followers: Jogo, Mahito, Geto, Dagon, Hanabi, Uraume, and Choso so their guests.
The DBT belongs to my friend @demon-blood-youths
((Note: Their will be grammar mistakes and errors in this drabble. It was written for fun so please understand. Thanks for that and hope you like.))
The one week for Melinda's final tasks, she was heavily being trained by the other followers who showed no mercy to her. Making sure she stood her ground and fights. Sukuna wanted to see just how strong this little silver bud gotten but he was taking a break to watch from his own throne. His hand holding a black crystal showing the image of her fighting against Geto who sees her crash into the ground but she was panting to get back on her feet fighting back.
This made the king chuckle as his talon nails run against the surface of the crystal.
'Oh silver bud, how you've grown....even if you went through the tasks, you given me the blood offerings as requested and yet..you never broke.' He keeps looking at the image but he only rests his cheek against one of his hands while showing a sick smile.
'From the day I brought you here, you were such a scared little thing or you still are.' He thought but looks seeing the different times of her training with each one.
'Even from my followers eating from you, scarring you, punishing you, your still holding on...I'm still shocked. Most would freak out by that time but you didn't. You just keep going and going determined to go home. to them, and to him.......' he sees Melinda held up by her shirt but the vision disappears when the other black crystals shows more of her progress.
For now he can tell she was busy with that to look and stand up to jump down from his throne to walk somewhere. Sukuna saw Uraume following him to see him head towards the outside but he was going to some opening.
It shows of old demonic seal within it's frame showing something of old demon text. However, Sukuna looks seeing the ground marked but he was seeing Uraume standing by him.
"Lord Sukuna, is something on your mind?" he asked but Sukuna said nothing.
"Not really just excited about the last week. I know my followers will be upset seeing silver bud go home but....that will just leave her with one more task. It saddens to see her go though. She was a pretty cute little toy and pet too..." he snickered as the thought with Uruame looking ahead seeing the area but he remembers this was a demon world gate. When Sukuna came here or marked this area, this door was locked.
The other door was open due to the devils but this one was his own personal door to the real world if he wished to find more followers that would be brought here by his own followers or to say young ones wishing to gain power. He knew it was locked and had no idea on how to open it.
"True, the other followers will be bored knowing she's returning home but....I remember you said something of a plan involving this locked door my lord?" Uraume remembers him talking about it but Sukuna knew to smile.
"I did yes. And she's the reason for it. For her last task that is. I know she'll be tired but I will be sure on the last day, she will remember her time here. Even if she'll be a big help involving this door. But it will be soo much fun." He snickered to look down at the ground seeing it glowing feeling Sukuna's power but he calms down to see it return to normal.
"....Does she know of this place my lord?" He asked.
"Not yet but she will. Over the two months, she's gotten stronger I know it. I even sensed it. Her telekinesis has gotten stronger and she's able to use a stronger version of it. Her demon blood is a bit stronger now and she can heal with her power. I bet that worried father of hers will be sooooo proud." he chuckled. "But they will get her back...it's just a matter of time." He said looking ahead knowing the others were either training her or helping her with something.
"Then your going on with your plan then. To either unlock something even more in her..." He said but Sukuna looks to his more dedicated follower. He knew Uruame was listening to him and saw his plan while Sukuna snickered.
"I'm sure she wouldn't mind.....with her helping me opening the door she just needs to make a little.....payment. This seal is strong but it should open knowing she has 'his' blood. Seems my dorm world is near Yen's domain and some of the others. That makes it more fun to see what else this little silver bud can do." He laughed with arms crossed.
"However, she's close. So so very close that her own soul is already rich. I know on the last day she'll be nervous wondering what I'm planning but it will help in time. She'll understand...." he said this but Sukuna was having a plan alright but this leaves him smiling. For now, he knew she still had to train through the two weeks before he knew. That's when he noticed some souls seeping through the door crying out but Sukuna knew.
She was 'his' daughter. With her help, he might get help with unlocking this gate. But he'll have to do something to push her even past that breaking point. He remembers she was able to pull their souls from the river of crying spirits so maybe...just maybe he can push it more to something. He felt one power still hidden inside of her.
He knows it but for now, he waited for the weeks to pass for that day. For that time, he knew the one week would pass so quickly but he was ordering the others to let her 'rest' it was shocking even if they did so much to her, Melinda still stood strong. Sukuna knew she was strong willed, determined to return home but he smiled to look at her at times that made her nervous.
She didn't know of his excitement for the last day. The day she was going to go home. He had to keep it in, he had to. Even if Melinda had a bad feeling of that excitement. Whatever it was, she just shook it off. However, it comes down to it now.
~~Timeskip: The final day~~
Sukuna knew it was time. Today was the day she was to return home. He waited for her since he ordered her to find him thanks to some help. Melinda was healed up by him after the last night but she was wondering what it was. Why was he having her meet her here? Was he going to take her home or have the devils pick her up? In that moment, she was here.
".........I..I'm here."
Sukuna heard to smile but he didn't show it. His back was turned to her while he was looking at the door. In front of him with the floor glowing.
"Good, I'm so happy you made it, Silver bud. You finally did it. You made it through the two long months of my hell. And to say I'm impressed. You would have broken down but...you survived like a true play thing. I'm impressed.." He chuckled but Melinda was nervous as she sees him still standing there.
"But....before I send you home, I have...one more task for you. Once you do this for me, your free to go."
"..O..One more t..task? And what is that?" she asked as he slowly turns to look at her. Sukuna looks at her that made her more worried but he moves to show the door to her. It was the sealed door but she's never seen this door before.
"I need you to open this door for me........that's all I ask. If you do that..then your free to go."
Wait, he wanted her to open this door? That was weird but she knew he might do something but she had to do this one last thing and she was free to go.
"S...so if I do this, I'm free right?" She asked seeing his sick smile.
"Yes, I even asked your father and the other devils to come pick you up. Just do this last task for me..and your free to go." he said to move as she slowly lets out a breath to head towards the door nervous. Why did she feel nervous? She walks up the stairs to this door but as she steps on the floor it glows once more of her own demonic soul aura.
"?????" She looks down seeing it then looks to Sukuna.
"It's fine go on..just open it for me, silver bud." he said but she looks to the door confused as she felt the energy flowing up to move her clothes and hair. She didn't know how to open the door but reaches to touch it. The surface was cold that she didn't feel the stinging burn which confused her.
"But how do I.."
"Just relax...and focus on the seal silver bud.." he said as Melinda looks at the door but she begins focusing to see it glowing as well. She gasped seeing the door with hidden seals as they disappear from the surface. While she did this, the other followers were showing up to watch but they were smiling to see.
In a moment, the door glows more as it slowly gets covered in s silver aura like hers with Melinda lowering her hand but she saw the door not do anything while moving back. "I..I think I did it but the door isn't doing much.." she said as Sukuna walks over to touch her shoulder.
"Oh no..this is what I was hoping would work..you did good silver bud..just one last thing." he said but Melinda saw Sukuna turn her around as he smiled touching her cheek. "Thank you so much for helping me..but I need one more thing to open this door..."
"A..and that is?" Melinda asked as Sukuna smiled looking at her. He carefully pets her head seeing the other devil's being invited to see the area but Yen was there. He wanted them to see this but she'll remember it. He held her close but Yen looks wondering what he's doing.
"Thank you so much for helping me, Silver Bud....." he said but before Melinda can ask-
A sudden view of red was seen in front of her eyes along with her silver eyes widening. The devils was shocked seeing this as they looked. With Yen's angry shout. "NO!!"
Sukuna held Melinda but she looks down seeing a bloody hand through her chest over the black scars she bare. His talon nails dripping of her blood as she looks down shaking. However, she coughs blood up as Sukuna smiled.
"The last thing I needed...was your blood.......so you can help me open the door..." he said as he rips his hand out to him seeing her wincing as he sees falls to the ground on her side bleeding.
"MELINDA!!!" Yen screams but Vanity glares to see Sukuna laughing loving the games even this. His arm was still soaked in her blood but Melinda was twitching while chocking on her own blood.
the other devils rush to her but the followers was stopping them as Sukuna saw her blood spreading out as the floor glows red with her blood.
"WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU DONE TO MY DAUGHTER!?" Yen shouted but he looks.
"I said I needed help opening the door and I got it! Now I can travel even better in the devil world and the real world. I couldn't get through the seal but thanks to her I can. No worries, she'll be fine. Just like you said right!?!" he said laughing but during this time, Melinda was bleeding to death but she was crying only to close her eyes feeling tired.
~~~Meanwhile~~~
Something shatters in the kitchen to make Ink and the DBT look up, they rush to see Jaron leaning over the sink but he was silent. "Jaron?! Jaron, what's wrong?! Are yo-" As Maggie asked, she stops seeing his eyes wide in horror but his mouth covered with tears.
"........."
"Jaron?"
".....N..No..no no no no........Please..please let this feeling be wrong...please....." he whispered feeling it but this got the others worried. What the hell happened?
AHHHHH I HAVE BEEN HOLDING ONTO THIS AS MY TREAT FOR GETTING THROUGH THIS FRIDAY AND NOW I'M ALL SNUGGLED IN AND PREPARED TO READ THIS FANTASTICAL FIC
We love a punctual king who works in the now and not in the later.
I know you mentioned to me that he would be carrying the scars from the canon into this (which I still think is like the most brilliant thing in the world) and I am SO EXCITED TO SEE IT IN ACTION NOW. You describe it perfectly (and hell yeah he's breathtaking.)
I can picture the whole facility and I love how you've framed all of the movement in this chapter already.
I love that Levi is so unapologetically himself and instantly picks apart the recovery plan they made for her. Your dialogue is so spot on, oh my god i love it.
“You won’t, and we’re not starting over. I’m assessing where we are now.” We.
OBSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSED
Oh my god an Erwin sighting!!!
“I’ll get you back on the ice.” ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL MEEEEE
I love how harsh he can be but it clearly comes from a place of care. I can totally believe he wants to bring her back to the best of her ability and he cares so much more than anyone else she's come across. Be still my little heart.
AN ANKLE MASSAGE? RIP GOODBYE GONE and it worked, too!!!! I love how much this story feels so grounded and based in reality. I do not know a single thing about ice skating or recovery but you put so much effort into this that I am enthralled with every word you type.
On your way out, Levi stops to face you. He opens his mouth to say something but quickly closes it again, seeming to second guess himself. “See you next week.”
WHAT WAS HE GOING TO SAY, Q?
WHAT WAS HE GOING TO SAY YOU BETTER TELL ME RIGHT NOW
(ofc this was literally so incredible and I am so happy you are writing this story, i'm so invested it aint even funny)
Kintsugi - ch. 2
previous chapter
Heat radiates up from the pan over your wrist as you cook your breakfast, stirring mindlessly as you lose yourself in thought. The rattle of your phone against the counter interrupts you. Turning the stove on low you flip your phone over from its downward position to see Levi’s contact illuminating the screen. Immediately your chest tightens up. It’s only been two days since you last spoke to him. You let it ring for a few seconds before slowly sliding your thumb across the screen to answer.
“Hello?” You hold your breath, hoping he doesn’t notice.
“Morning,” Levi starts, his tone causing your nerves to fray more than they already were. “I reviewed everything you sent over and drew up a recovery plan. If possible, I’d like to go over it in person.” It’s still overwhelming to know just who it is you’re talking to.
“Okay sure.. When?” You ask.
“Today?”
Your eyebrows shoot up in surprise. Moving things along this quickly isn’t exactly what you expected to happen. “Yeah, I can make it in today.” You confirm.
“Eleven work for you?” He asks.
You glance over at the clock on the stove, seeing you had more than enough time to get ready “Perfect.”
“Alright. Sina training center, left wing. My office is on the second floor. I’ll text you the address. See you then.” He hangs up and seconds later your phone buzzes with the address as promised.
***
Sina Training Center is on the opposite side of town from the arena you trained at for Worlds. Having lived in this city for less than a year you’ve only ever seen it in passing. When you finally find a place to park it’s quite the walk before you make it inside, and when you do you’re shocked by the size of this place. It’s a huge lobby, different areas lead you to sport specific sections of the building.
You head left and follow the signs that direct you towards the ice sports wing. On your way to the elevator you pass by the large window. Ice is on full display through this window, causing your stomach to tighten. You stop and observe as three girls train with their respective coaches on the ice. An ache grows in your chest as you watch them.
When you step off the elevator onto the second floor and make your way into the waiting room, there’s a man standing in front of the door that leads to the offices looking down at an iPad. You walk up with the intention of politely getting past him, but when he looks up to face you your heart stops.
That scar is unmistakable. A clean cut that trailed from above his eyebrow all the way down through his lip. Small dots on either side from the stitches even after all this time, and a white glaze over his right eye. Even so, the man in front of you was breathtaking. It was definitely him.
“Wouldn’t have made it very far,” he breaks the silence causing you to snap out of it, and you definitely feel like an ass for staring.
“I’m sorry?”
He quickly shifts to the left of the door revealing a key card scanner, “and I never mentioned which office was mine.” He sounds just like he did on the phone, so.. abstruse? If this wasn’t a professional setting you’d believe he already hated you.
“Levi.” He states, extending his hand out for you to shake. You can’t help but stare. You’re standing in front of one of the most unrivaled skaters, even the accident couldn’t take that title from him.
“Nice to meet you.” You finally muster up. He’s silent for a moment, seemingly observing you.
“Likewise.” He finally says before looking back down and wrapping up whatever it was he was doing on the iPad. He holds it at his hip and digs through his pocket, pulling out a blue lanyard with the training center's logo lined across it, at the end hangs a small white card. “This is yours.” He says. You grab it from him and take a look. It’s a key card with a barcode and your name printed on it. “This will get you into any area designated for skaters, and past this door to my office.” You swear you can hear his voice lift at the second half of that sentence. “Follow me.” You nod as he leads you back into the elevator. Once you’re on the main floor again he points to the rink you passed on your way in.
“That's the common rink, used for general training and classes.” He explains, leading you in the opposite direction down the hall and stopping at a pair of double doors. He presses his key card against the reader on the wall and quickly walks in as they open. When you follow in behind him, you’re stunned to see another large common area lined with equipment shops and a small snack bar section. To the right are two more ice rinks, one immediately to the right of the door you came in and the other’s entrance on the far wall straight across. “Those are the specialty rinks, I call them the rehab rinks.'' He starts, heading in that direction. “They both serve the same purpose though, one is generally used for the hockey team to train off-season. Eventually, we’ll be over there in the third one.” He gestures for you to follow him inside, scanning his card at the entrance. Your breathing nearly seizes. This is the closest you’ve been to the ice since February.
“It’s our smallest rink. Reserved specifically for those recovering from injury who need a less congested area to work in.” He walks the edge of the boards with you in tow, eyes glued to the ice the entire time. “Locker rooms.” He says. You almost ran straight into him not noticing he had stopped to point them out.
Circling back and crossing the large common area with you, he scans his key again. “This is the gym, and past that door is the PT area.” he points past another set of locker rooms. You’re already so overwhelmed, even for you this entire building was so high profile. You felt out of place. “For the next few weeks, we’ll be spending most of our time here.”
You're so sick of physical therapy and just want to be back on the ice already.
As the two of you walk back out towards the elevators to get to his office, he looks over to you. “Do not use any facility without me there with you for now.” He says, and you can tell he’s serious.
***
Levi pulls a folder from his desk as you sit across from him. “Your current recovery plan is nauseating.” He says bluntly, dropping the folder onto the desk.
You’re stunned by the quick change in his tone. “Excuse me?”
“First of all, they set you up for failure before you even left the hospital.” He starts, pulling out printed copies of everything you sent over from the folder. “Ice? Really? Are we still living in the stone ages?” He scoffs “You should have been doing small movements for that ankle since day one, and I don’t see any recommendations here for that.”
“There wasn’t..” You confirm, eyes so wide they could fall out of your skull. It was hard to believe how involved with your recovery he was, not expecting him to review your progress from day one. You figured he would just pick up along with where you already were.
“Of course, and you weren’t referred to the proper resources. Standard physical therapy would never have gotten you back on that ice. It’s up to you but I think you’d do better full time here.” He says, shaking his head. “Christ, did your coach do literally anything for you?”
You wince at the mention of Coach Tarasov, having ghosted her after she drove you home from the hospital. You haven’t reached out since, positive it’s too late now. Getting a new coach was just another thing you’d have to do to get yourself back up. “I didn’t really give her the chance to..”
Levi hummed in response. “You moved on from basic balance too fast, that’s why you’re struggling so badly now. Balance is the most important part of this, you’re a figure skater. We’ll start our assessments there.”
“I don’t have the time to start over.” You reply immediately.
“Do you think you’ll have time when this happens again because you re-injured yourself?” He asks flatly and the question sinks deep. “You won’t, and we’re not starting over. I’m assessing where we are now.”
We.
“Okay.. you’re right.” You exhale and let yourself lean back into the chair.
“I know I am.” He pulls all of the pages back together and slips them back inside your folder. “Three days a week. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, seven to eight?” He asks as if it were a question.
“Yes, that works.” You affirm. This was your only option and you had a feeling he knew that too.
He nods and pulls another packet out, sliding it towards you. “Review and sign these.” He says. Flipping through it you recognise it’s the plan he just went over with you, and you sign when prompted. He reaches his hand beside his computer and slides you another white card. “For the parking garage.”
***
The next day you park in the garage and it’s a much easier walk inside, considering it happens to be attached to the skating wing of the training center. You scan your way in and head through the gym, and into the physical therapy room once you throw your stuff into a locker.
When you walk into the room you see Levi talking to what you assume to be another employee. He’s tall, muscular, blond. It looks like he’s actually enjoying their conversation. The discussion seems to stop when Levi’s eyes find you, and he gestures for you to follow him. Racing to catch up with him, you see the man eye the both of you before turning to leave.
“Who's that?” Curiosity gets the best of you.
“Erwin, he’s a personal trainer in another wing.” Levi responds without delay. “Sometimes comes and bothers me between appointments.” As harsh as that sounded, you could tell it came from a place of adoration.
Levi has you sit down after taking your shoes off. You’ve been here before, it’s the same place you got assessments done the first time. You watch as he kneels down and sets the tablet beside him on the mat, gently pressing his thumbs into the front of your ankle and asking you to move your foot in several directions. He feels like a different person in this room than he was in the office or on the phone. He’s gentle and precise, jotting down notes in between every test he does, and making sure you’re comfortable. He's way more involved than your last therapist and you haven’t even gotten past the assessment.
“Let’s try something.” Getting back onto his feet, he walks across the room and grabs an object from the ground. You immediately recognize it as a balance board. It’s a flat square board with a rounded bottom. He places it down on the floor and gestures you over. “Go ahead and step up here.” He reaches his hand out for you to grab. You nervously place your hand in his and step onto the board with your left foot, relying on Levi to support you while you find your balance.
“Great.” He encourages, his tone setting off tiny flutters in your stomach as you attempt to balance yourself. He takes a small step back, seamlessly supporting the weight you’re pushing onto his hand. “I’m going to let go, see how you do here.” He says and waits for you to center yourself before slowly pulling away. He continues to hold his hands out in front of you, palms facing up so you can hover yours above incase you need help with balancing.
Immediately after he retracts his hand your ankle shakes, a reminder of just how far behind you are. A few seconds later discomfort takes over, sending a sting up the inside of your leg. You let your fingertips fall onto his, your eye twitches as you try to avoid relying on him for balance.
“How does that feel?”
“It kind of hurts.”
“Stop.” He grabs your hand and helps you back down off the board. “Then we aren’t there yet.” He comments, jotting the notes down quickly.
You let out a sigh, this is what you meant when you said you couldn’t afford to start over. “I should be on the board by now.” You think out loud.
“Not if it hurts.” He quips, letting the iPad rest against his hip from the strap hanging off his shoulder. “If you can’t balance on that board you won’t be able to balance on a blade.”
“I’ve been in therapy for weeks,” your thoughts quickly spiral, having the determination to recover means nothing if your body works so hard against you. “If I can’t get back on the ice by-“
“I’ll get you back on the ice.”
Your thoughts lapse. The way he said it with such certainty makes you want to believe him that much more.
“Look, I told you your last program was shit,” he sounds like he’s trying to be comforting “it’s not going to happen overnight, and definitely not with that attitude.”
You don’t know how to respond to that. You know he’s right. Again.
Levi leads you to the center of the room for mobility stretches, another exercise you’re more than familiar with. He watches as you shift your weight onto your right leg and tip your left foot outward, it doesn’t hurt but the pull is uncomfortable. You inhale harshly through your nose, pushing further against the strain.
“Don’t force it.” Levi instructs, keeping a close eye on your form.
You switch from stretching to the side to stretching your ankle forward. After going back and forth between the two for about 5 minutes Levi stops you again, moving on to the stationary board for heel lifts. You step up and let your heels hang off the back of the board, every raise has your ankle shaking. You watch Levi in the mirror in front of you, he has a peculiar look on his face. He slowly kneels down behind you to watch closely as you continue to rise up and down on the board.
“Stop, get down.” Levi says firmly.
You oblige, immediately stepping back down onto the padded floor. Levi picks up the tablet and starts quickly swiping across the screen, eyebrows raised and lips pressed in a flat line.
“Your old therapist,” he starts, still quickly filing through pages on the iPad, “did they massage that ankle.”
“No.” You confirm his suspicions.
“‘Course they didn’t.” He mumbles, rolling his eyes as he lets the iPad fall back down against his side. “It’s stiff.” He’s already walking back toward the tables.
You follow behind him nervously, sitting up on the table when prompted. You watch as he methodically washes his hands in a nearby sink. When he comes back he tells you to lay back. He stands at the end of the table, gently bending your foot toward him. You chew the inside of your lip as he slips his hand under your heel, pressing his thumb gently behind your ankle bone and guiding the pressure up. Your breath catches at the slight discomfort but it's slowly replaced by a sense of relief. He continues in that same upward direction, adding a gentle circular motion after a few moments. You turn your head away, fidgeting with your shirt as your heart rate seems to accelerate.
You aren't sure what it is about him. From the moment you knew you’d be working with him it’s all you could think about. At first you chalked it up to admiration. Maybe it was the way he cared, even underneath all the dry conversation and formalities you could tell. Or maybe it’s the way he carries himself. Could be that he’s stunning, like a sunset that perfectly contrasts a clear blue sky. Even now, when he's right in front of you he takes up your mind. Just when you entertain it, imagine his hand sliding up your leg–
“Let’s try again.” His voice startles you out of your thoughts.
You stand back on the board and Levi kneels down again. You lift up once more and your eyes widen slightly. Not only has the discomfort decreased but your ankle doesn’t shake as bad. It’s not perfect, you still feel the tightness and resistance. That last thing you expected was to make progress during your first session with him. You snap your attention to him, back on the tablet adding data. The corner of his lip upturned in a subtle smirk like he just found the last missing piece of an unfinished puzzle.
“It was healing stiff.” He comments, switching you to another exercise. “You’re lucky we caught it when we did.”
“It’s reversible?” You ask, but it comes out as more of a plea.
“It is.” he confirms. You leave the session that day with a detailed print out of exercises from Levi, instructed to do them in the afternoon of your session days and twice a day otherwise.
That night as you do them, his voice echoes in your thoughts
I’ll get you back on the ice.
***
From that point on, your sessions start with a fifteen minute meticulous ankle massage. By the end of the first two weeks you can hold your balance on one foot for thirty seconds with minimal shaking.
Throughout your third week you make miraculous progress. You’re up to forty five seconds of balance on one foot, and painless single heel lifts off the floor and the stationary balance board.
The last 10 minutes of your Friday session Levi has you balance on one foot and places a tennis ball down directly in front of you.
“Pick it up.”
You nod, extending your leg behind you as you slowly bend your knee. Once you have the ball in your hand you slowly rise back up, placing it back in Levi’s hand. He shifts over, setting the ball down to your right. Again, you lower yourself down and back up on one foot with ease. One last time he sets the ball down to your left. When you drop it back in his hand you bring your elevated foot back down to stay stable. He lets out a satisfied huff and walks away, returning with the balance board from a few weeks back and drops it down. He helps you up and this time you pull away from him, quick to neutralize your weight. You make it look easy now.
“Not bad.” His tone sounds indifferent but he has that same look in his eyes, he has it every time you hit a milestone.
Like every win is yours to share.
On your way out, Levi stops to face you. He opens his mouth to say something but quickly closes it again, seeming to second guess himself. “See you next week.”
Okay I just watched the first episode. There was a lot! But I like the changes from the books (like actually seeing the people from Novyi Zem and learning a bit about their culture). I think they improved the overall story (though of course, nothing is perfect) lol.
I think combining the two stories is interesting but it is a lot to swallow. I get why they did it but it was nice to digest them separately when reading. But again, nothing is perfect, and I get that maybe combining the stories gives them more to shoot.
And I'm so excited about Tamar! She (and Genya) was my favorite from the book series so it's nice to finally see her. We love a girl who can fight 🤣🤣🤣
I also love what they did with Mal's caharacter. I didn't like that everyone hated him in the books, though I get why. They really improved his character in the first season, and I like how his loyalty and love are so much more obvious in the show.
Still not a fan of Sturmhond, though I never cared for him, to be honest. Maybe that will change as I keep watching but him and Mattias were always my least favorite, in both iterations of the story. But we shall see!
What do you think?
Confession time I've never read the SaB trilogy just the Crows books and King of Scars 🫣 I've read enough spoilers to know what happens though, lmao.
I love the Crows so I do like that they combined it, if they didn't I would've been worried if Netflix didn't keep the show running enough for it to get to them! But I get what you mean, it's a lot of back and forth between the storylines!
YES I love the gals!!! Part of why I'm a fan of this whole series is that the girls are so cool and obviously so badass. If I'd read the books when I was younger I would have been all over trying to be like them 😂
I really gotta go and read the SaB books because I have no idea what Mal and Sturmhond are like on paper. I like the way Mal is in the show though so whatever changes they made must be good. Sturmhond's pretty suave and I'm intrigued but I also think that's just me thinking the actor who plays him is really good looking, hahah.
Book Mattihas grew on me! Enough that the end of Crooked Kingdom really made me feel things kdsjfgd. But Matthias at the point the show is rn... not the most likeable. I wanna see if they succeed in turning that around in the show 👀
F, G and H for any of your OCs, Morgs.
Also sorry to read you're unwell! Sending hugs and wishes for a quick recovery <3
Thank you very much for your ask! 💚
I'm not going to bore you with Cyberpunk, but will switch for this one to my Dragon age ocs, to my girls specifically, which would be still 10/19. I leave my multiwarden AU out too and just stay with my main female ocs.
Which leaves us with Natia Brosca, Morgan Cousland, Nava Surana and Drifa Päivä. They are still in different possible timelines.
Natia is my first ever oc. Back in the day she romances Alistair (of course she did) and sacrificed herself. I changed her to be a double dwarf Warden AU where the two of them fall in love and rule Orzammar later on.
Either Morgan and Nava, or Drifa and Nava are at the same time in a timeline.
Morgan is my female Cousland and if she dies Alistair will stay a Grey Warden and romance Inquisitor Drifa later on.
Or Morgan and Alistair are either king and queen or both Grey Wardens.
Nava romances Cullen and they will always have a policule with either Morgan or Drifa and Alistair.
This was a small introduction into my strange mind and the timelines. Confused already?
F) What do you feel when you think of your OC (pride, excitement, frustration, etc)?
Natia: I am proud of her, and at the same time of myself I guess. She as I grew up in a society that wanted to tell us how we have to be and what to expect. And we both said "Fuck you!"
Morgan: I gave her my pseud name with good reason. She is the person I always wanted to be. My father was a soldier and I wanted to be a soldier as well, but I wasn't allowed because I'm female.
Morgan is a warrior, wielding a glaive, a great commander and strategist.
Nava: wants the boy she can't have bc he is a Templar and follows him everywhere until they can be finally together in Inquisition. Sounds sappy? It is! I need that sometimes. They are my fluff couple. (Actually Anders/Ser Gilmore is my fluff couple but we're not talking guys today)
Drifa: she is my poor little meow meow. She doesn't know who she is or where she came from. From a young age she only knows the circle. She is powerful and also dangerous in the eye of the chantry so she is kept alone and away from everyone else. When the Tower in Hasmal fell she didn't know where to go, or what to do. She was attacked by mages and Templars because of her power. She had to kill many to survive and she hated it. She becomes Inquisitor and will learn much of and about herself.
G) What trait of theirs bothers you the most?
Natia is too stubborn for her own good.
Morgan says what she thinks, especially when she becomes queen this is a problem and she needs to learn how to formulate what you think in a non blunt way. Her brother Aedan and Zevran will teach her.
Nava is moody. Her magic surfaced because she was angry and she scarred her face in the process. So if you see her angry, you better run if you don't want lightning bolts up your ass.
Drifa is a little fawn, she knows nothing that is not written in a book. She has nearly no social skills because she was kept away from others.
H) What trait do you admire most?
Natia gets things done.
Morgan isn't afraid of anyone, all commanders in Cailans army derided her for being not much more than a girl, while she could later point out all flaws in their strategy.
Nava has so much determination (Cullen would call it stubbornness) no chance to get her off her track.
Drifa is vulnerable, and she knows this full well, still she meets everyone with kindness as long as they don't attack her.
This was longer than I anticipated. Oh well! It was nice to talk about Dragon age again for a change.
babe get up, arcielee posted
tldr; besties, read this fic because this is genuinely one of the most well-thought and set up fics i have ever read. sit down, get some hot coco, pomegranates whatever your heart desires and have a good curl up with this
“Little goddess, you are far away from where you belong.” This was the truth spoken, for she never before dared venture away from her mother’s watchful gaze, never pressing beyond the boundary she swore she implemented for safety. Today it was fate that propelled her soft steps to follow the trodden pathway that wove from her realm into his.
oh god i'm already excited, i was such a mythology nerd when i was younger so these aus are always a favourite
His tone was low and voiced with authority, but she did not feel threatened despite the grim scenery she now found herself in.
i can just imagine him trying to be all intimidating and her just tilting her head like "hm, what's that?"
it was not shroud in darkness, mostly void of pigmentation save the veily blue hue that enveloped all around.
oooo i like that it's not just 'oh evil so dark', there's thought into it
For her, it was an ancient tongue known to the gods and it spilled like a sweet nectar from her wet lips.
oh i love that simile so much
He towered over her, his arms were tucked behind his back and it emphasized his broad shoulders. Silver scars littered over, brilliant streaks in contrast to the plum chiton draped over his lithe figure with golden thread knotted around his slender waist. The dark tones he wore gave a luminous intensity to his alabaster skin, like a godly beacon in the realm of grey.
i'm loving these descriptions
“I have come to ask you something,” she continued, her voice unsteady, but her eyes boldly returned his steady gaze.
HERE WE GO BABYY
“I wanted to ask if it was at all possible for a soul to be returned to the mortal realm?”
oh?
this is gonna be good
A low hum rumbled in the back of his throat and he took a deliberate step to close the space between them;
tension tension tension
His soft tone pulled her attention back and she can see his brow is furrowed. “My friends,” she refused to cry in front of the king, no matter the kindly concern etched onto his features in the moment.
AYY HE CARES
He hummed a second time, still low but thoughtful. “They are not yet lost, little goddess,” and the familiar curl of his bow lips gives her the flutter of hope. “Come back tomorrow and we can see what may be done, but,” his gaze rolled over her, locking onto her face once again. “I would advise not to return empty handed when you come to beg a favor from the king of the Underworld.”
why do i feel like he actually just wants to see her again
How divine the thought of his lips to kiss each one.
CALLED IT, YES
She left chagrined and he was certain he would not see her again, save the movements when he would slip to the surface for a reprieve from the dead, a shadow in watch of the gods who resided in the mortal realm.
oh that's cute it's like he's her ever watching shadow
He had not expected her to return the following day and with a basket she showed was filled with delicacies of cheeses, olives, figs, and more.
awwwwww
Aïdōneús. A name long forgotten, spurned from the fear it held amongst mortals, but she was dauntless with her pronunciation, just as she was bold with her stare. It was the sweetest sound, both familiar and unfamiliar, a sound that he would spend his immortality to follow its every behest.
stop because it probably means so much to him that she says his name so freely
Desire. There is an unbridled fervor in his gaze as it rolled over her curves, so sinfully wrapped in the peplos linen but his posture remained reserved, his arms crossed behind and one foot stanced. "As you wish, Kore.”
He whisked her forward and he felt her grip tighten, looking back to see her eyes wide from the abrupt movement.
BAES HE WHISKED
He is grateful that she does not press him to finish his thought. Instead, he fell back and watched as she spread the cloth, the white billow of fabric that settled on the ground, and placed the basket in the center. She offered to pour him a glass of wine and only then does he take a seat, breaking the bread, while he shared that their view is the asphodel meadows where good souls reside, a neutral ground for peaceful spirits.
the fact that this probably means so much to him because of how long he is alone and how many people fear him UGH i love it
Her nose scrunched. “I understand this,” she breaks a piece of the bread, allowing the wine to dye it red. “That, however, does not change my initial opinion.”
this back and forth is so fluid, with every new paragraph i have a new favourite bit i swear
She watched, wide eyed and rosy, as his laughter lines his cheeks with dimples, the king of the Gō vys has dimples!
who knows the last time he laughed and she is gushing over it i love- okay i'll stop doing that now
Her eyes widen, not with fright but curiosity, to the animosity of his words. “What is the cost?”
i love the parts that tell what he's probably noticing about her
the thrum of her ichor
'ichor' BAE KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT
“It is the cost to rule a kingdom,” she offered, blinking and it is seemingly gone, her expression now doleful as it looks over the silver hills that spread infinitely before them.
SHE'S ADAPTING HIS DARKNESS TO SUNLIGHT IM GOING TO SCREAM
There was a tingle in his fingertips to reach for her hand, to knit his fingers so perfectly with her own, just so she may remember she was not alone.
they are two sides of the same coin
“You smell of death.”
“I wish to show you a place that is dear to me,” but her tone is careful. “Are you able to come with me to the mortal realm?”
oh sweet girl
She was the goddess of spring, of vitality personified, and he is the darkness. But in this serene moment, there was an emotion, an almost tangible passion that entangled with the ichor of his veins when she reached for his hand again. There was a spark as their palms fit together, as his slender fingers curled around her hand. “It is beautiful,” he said and his tongue wet his lips.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He, of course, obliged her.
he's so smitten, bless
“I made this one for you. This one will never wilt.”
“Kore,” he began and she looked up at him. “I will look further into this. I meant what I said that I am unable to return souls to the mortal realm, it is beyond my power, but I will find…” he hummed again. “Will you please come back tomorrow night?” I will always find my way to you, but instead she only smiled, nodding her head.
Rule of Wolves Book Thoughts.
I literally sped through this book. I started at 7 pm and read through to 3 am at which point I decided to go to bed. I woke up at 9 am and started the book again and I have finished the book at 10:30 am. To say I couldn't put the book down is an understatement. I'm both happy and freaking angry that I have finished the series. This book is the continuation of King of Scars and I absolutely loved it. SPOILERS.... WARNING... SPOILERS....
My favorite part was most definitely when we got to see kaz, jesper, and wylan again. Six of Crows is my favorite book out of leigh bardugo's books so far so when I saw that the crows were in rule of wolves I was excited. It was funny when kaz saw Nikolai as the monster for the first time. I was cracking up.
How could David just die? Why was that even an idea? Why kill David and leave Genya alone like that?! Ughhhhhhhh. *angry noises* I guess thats all I have to say about that, I guess you can imagine my reaction while reading those chapters.
When I first started reading King of Scars, all the chapters with Nina and her talking about Mattias, made me want to cry. But after this book, I am so happy that Nina found happiness. I was really wondering if Hanne and Nina were going to end up together but I didn't want to get my hopes up because normally whatever I expect to happen the opposite happens. And I really thought that I had been stupid in thinking that happiness could happen when Hanne supposedly fell to her death. Literally felt like I had been punched. Good thing Hanne had just tailored herself and the prince who had actually fallen.
Alina and Mal came back into the story!! I had a feeling that they would get dragged back just because the Darkling also got dragged back into the story.
Oncat is still there!!! He is the most important player in the story obviously. 🐈
I'm glad that the whole Queen Micah thing got figured out, I wasn't really feeling that part of the story. She just made me angry lol.
In my last review on King of Scars, I wasn't sure how I felt about Nikolai and Zoya and now I know that I require it to happen, in fact I need more of Nikolai and Zoya. There friendship and love for each other is just too good. And now Zoya is queen which sort of shocked me but I was happy about it.
This wouldn't be that great of a review if I didn't mention the dragon scenes. I was living for it. Zoya turning into a dragon is just so badass. Her ready to wipe out the Fjerdans had me rooting for it. But she didn't for good reasons lol. A dragon!!! I was wondering if that was ever going to happen.
This book was just so amazing and I definitely recommend anybody who hasn't read this book to stop and go read the other books and then come back and read this book.
It also left off on an exciting note because they now need Kaz Brekker's help sooooooooo Six of Crows 3? As soon as the next book comes out I will be out the door to the nearest bookstore. I can't wait for the next six of crows.
Okay but in all seriousness, I have a real question to ask because I don't know if I maybe skipped over it or didn't understand while reading but um is Yuri the monk trapped with the Darkling between worlds? Like seriously I don't remember if they brought that up again or if it was resolved and I just missed it but if it wasn't resolved, wtf. Is Yuri still with the Darkling?
Trends in Cinderella retellings and my thoughts thereon:
Fairy Godmother is the Villain: I've read this nine times now, and while it technically was only a plot twist once or twice, it adds such a gut-punch of "I trusted you!" and really plays with motives and ack! It's a good twist, starting to get slightly tired, but I think it still has some facets. (And, tbh, I may have played with a twist on this twist in my latest Cinderella retelling, where Cinderella thinks that the Fairy Godmother might be a villain, so tests her motives by asking to be sent to the ball.)
The Lost Princess Cinderella: I've read this one two or three times, and I love the almost King Arthur feel that these retellings have. Always excellent. I will never get tired of reading tales where someone is downtrodden their whole life and then - boom - they're the one everyone wants to impress. A good reminder that we should be careful how we treat people no matter how insignificant they seem.
The Chance Encounter So, we need to overcome that whole "love at first sight isn't realistic." How do we overcome this? Easy! Have them meet by chance a day/week/month before in the woods/marketplace/castle backdoor. It's a problem that does have to be solved, but I've seen it enough times that it's become more annoying than anything else. I muchly prefer the "Prince and Cinderella knew each other a long time ago, but their paths have diverged" or the "Initial meeting IS at the ball, but now they have to figure out what to make of their relationship." So, basically, my thoughts on this one are "do it if you must, but I really think we can do better."
The Nice Stepsister And, but extension, the Nice Stepfamily, but specifically the trope where one of the stepsisters is (a) not as bad as the rest of her family or (b) might be only a degree or so above Cinderella in the pecking order. I think this one dates to Anastasia's arc in Cinderella II, but I kinda love it any time I see it. Makes the family a little more dynamic. And when the whole family is nice, and something ELSE is the villain, well, that's a treat in and of itself.
There's also another subset in this trope that I've read three times now, where it's only one stepsister and from her perspective, and by the end, you're not really sure who's Cinderella and who's the stepsister, and it's kinda both of them and it's lovely.
Cinderella Has Forbidden Magic I mean, it's already a tale of class difference and love against odds. Let's just increase the stakes! I'm not the hugest fan of the Forbidden magic trope (I find it stressful), but it puts an exciting twist on the story of Cinderella.
Servant Cinderella See the Forbidden Magic. This increases the ante of class difference, and it gives our starcrossed lovers more excuse to fall in love with each other if they live under the same roof (just one them is working and one's the prince). I've seen this one enough that it may be started to get tired, but I also don't hate it, either.
Fairy Godmother is the Love Interest I've seen this as a "Instead of ending up with the prince, she ends up with the fairy godfather character" and as a "prince fills the roll of fairy godfather." I REALLY love the latter, while the other is hit and miss depending on the power dynamic. (Though, mostly, my issue with the former is that, the first time I encountered it was a borderline narcissistic fairy godfather and a Cinderella described as "not very bright" who had allowed her stepfamily to manipulate her into a servant's role. So it just didn't sit well with me. That isn't how narcissists redeem themselves, it's how they develop hero complexes. But I digress.)
The Scarred Cinderella This one is definitely based off the Native American version of Cinderella, but is pretty pervasive among retellings regardless of setting. It's always heartbreaking and sweet and I quite love it when it happens.
Cinderella Leaves the Prince I accept this one only in the case of "villain fairy godmother" and only if she finds another form of happily ever after. Breaking Happily Ever Afters isn't cool. Authors need to stop doing this.
untitled god song
pairing: bakugou/m!reader (trans reader in mind you can see it if you squint but can also be read as cis)
words: 2k
warnings: themes of religious trauma, homophobia, mentions of blood, the author projecting their mommy issues
a/n: this is purely self indulgent, don't mind me 😩✋ (written in first person)
i wish i had known him before the pain started. perhaps it is a fools dream to think that his presence would have solved anything, and it is likely that he might blown me sky high at the time, if given the chance, but i often ponder his place in my narrative. he is nothing less than a king—nay, a god—and what else am i to be except his humble servant, adoring him in the only way i've been taught?
i would bruise my knees as i kneel for him, and should he turn me away, i shall be lost and without purpose. but he does not, and instead, he snorts out a laugh and pulls me to my feet, roughly squeezing my cheeks together with a shit-eating grin. he'll tell me a joke i've heard a thousand times, and yet i laugh with him anyways, the pads of my fingers idly tapping the pulse on his wrists.
"dumbass, at least take me out to dinner first."
i never thought i'd ache to hear such a demeaning nickname, but it's like birdsong to my ears, and i long for the myriad of butterflies it provokes.
i would heed his every word like a faithful disciple, and—if i knew he would not use this power for the wrong reasons—carry it out without question. he'll roll his eyes at the notion, far too prideful at the idea of being praised, and card hands through my hair, gripping softly. "right. and if i told you to go to bed before five in the morning, would you listen?"
my smiles are genuine, as they all are with him.
"no." i wish my mother had been more open-minded; more loving to those she claimed were goners. maybe then, i could still call her my mother, and not a snarled version of her first name steeped in vinegar. maybe she could have met him, and maybe she would have keeled over in the process, but that is how we put it "killing two birds with one stone".
he was a fallen angel if ever i saw one—emblazoned in smog and ravenous inferno, the pieces of child-like innocence turning to ash. something happened to him when he was a kid, just as all gifted children, and oh, what a fool i was to let my gaze dawdle on his gorgeous form. but i will never regret it—no, not ever—for there is no such feeling that can compare to his eyes on mine, burning with a mind-fogging intensity.
it was instantaneous, the moment my thoughts turned on me with malicious intent, her voice ringing out like a gunshot.
you'll never be him.
his hand slots with mine perfectly; deliciously warm and comforting in a way i haven't felt in years; and hauls me up, the flecks of dirt and rubble from the road clinging to my jeans.
"watch it, pretty boy. i won't always be here to save you, y'know."
my heart batters against my ribs like a caged bird, screeching and wailing to be set free, and i wonder in a haze if i've died. judgement day must have come early, i think, not realizing that it was spoken aloud until the blonde quirks a brow inquisitively. he does not speak on the matter, but continues on his merry way, leaving my helpless; hopelessly enamored; and praying that we will meet again.
no, i could never be him. but i am like him. he has a sureness in his walk and fervor in the way he talks that is only recognizable when i look in the mirror. and we do meet again. it is a shame, however, that i must burden him with the weight of my past. i remember too often the troubles of my youth, even when all has passed into fleeting memories that haunt me as ghosts do to an abandoned house. yet, i still live in this house, and the ghosts are here to keep me company.
i remember the church, first and foremost; nestled between the barren country road and the outback; a beacon of hope to all those who stood in its doors. the luster of freshly polished wood still sits in my mind, accompanied by the echoing remnants of dulcet tones and multicolored bands of light, glaring from the stained glass windows and dancing across the musty carpet floor. the doddering pews were just as uncomfortable as the poorly padded chairs squatting in the front row, but every sunday, they were filled to the brim with hungry worshippers. they sang praise as though they were starved, but i was too young to understand for what. i am older now, and i still don't understand. all i know is that despite its reputation, the church was a cursed place, and i should never set foot in it again lest i go mad. i remember the creaking stairs which lead downstairs, and the winding halls that reeked of torment where shadows loomed. the paint was corroding and foul, and my conscious always loitered too long on the merlot stain on the ceiling; its origin unknown, but nevertheless urging my stomach to twist with nausea.
i remember the feeling of tall grass grazing my ankles; itching horribly from the old moth-eaten socks i was forced to wear. it had become second nature—running and hiding from my problems, from the church, from her. i shall never know a greater animosity than the likes that my mother encouraged, although unintentionally, with her pressuring views and sickeningly sweet smile. it's fake, and i would know, because ours are the same.
we are too similar, and i am sickened by the fact. will i become the wretched woman she is? will i fail to be the father i've dreamt of being? it is an easy thing to fall prey to haunting questions, and it serves as brain rot for every moment of silence that leaves me clawing at my skin, trying to reap the memory of her touch. then i began to think—about nothing and everything—and it does not stop. i will be kind; unforgivingly so, and without biased judgement; like my mother never was, and i'll make her hate me for it. i will grow in leaps and bounds, not for her sake or for god's, but for mine, as it always should have been. i will drink and curse with reckless abandon and kiss who i damn well please, because in no life does she have have the power to make me something i'm not. why should i feel sorry when the tears she wept were forged by my own blood; by the childhood memories locked away to rot in my subconscious? yes, she has suffered too, but it is through clenched teeth and raw-bitten lips that i must confess this, for her suffering was born in me and grew from a seedling into a thorned flower, nourished by her hatred and mine. she'll tell me the lie of all mothers before her: that she knows best, and i'll never know joy that is not from my savior's gracious hands.
one day, when she lies not with words but in silence, under worm-filled earth and withering pastures, i'll tell her that she was right. i'll tell her, with his hand in mine, that my savior arrived with hellfire in his eyes and fury unrelenting. his tongue holds venom that would make the devil blush, but he tastes of a sinful sweetness that i've drowned in more times than i care to count.
mother you should know, my god is like no other. he has a broad chest and muscles, i attest, that are sculpted like fine marble and smooth to the test.
my god is a man who loves other men, unashamedly; in all that is true; and kisses me like real people do. and i know it sounds silly, and a bit cliché, and he'd surely make a mockery of me if ever he heard, but i love him. i love him as passionately as you she does lord above, and it is a crime in itself how much i crave him, so yes, i will burn for this—not because my mother said so or by the ancient script that foretells it, but because i promise it. i promise to let neither hell or high water deter me from that which gives me life, and i'll do so with a ring.
"you hear that mom?" i'll whisper in the dead of night, his body flushed against mine in the most delightful way; his fingers curled into my nightshirt, pulling me closer as listless mumbles fall from his parted lips. he is dead to the world amid his dream ridden stupor, but still leans into my touch when i smooth back the wild tufts of hair to kiss his forehead.
"i'm gonna marry him." part of me wishes she didn't live on the other side of the planet, just so i could rub it in her face, but i won't give her the satisfaction of seeing me again. i won't let her think she's won, because i know, and katsuki knows, that he and i are one in the same.
i do not know who i should thank for my stubbornness, be it my mother or my father, so i will thank the pain they both caused me, for it made me stronger than they ever could. no, i did not become a better person, because the scars have yet to heal from how deep they cut, and the smell of blood still lingers, and i am angrier than i once was, but i cherish my wounds. the stench of my agony has long since been subdued, and i have learned to swallow the sickness it evokes. and yes, this anger is unhealthy and i've chosen not to purge it from my mind like the weed it is, but how lucky am i to have found one whose malice rivals my own?
the tales of his glory have littered my notebooks in smudged ink. you would hate him, is scrawled messily on the last page, but i only feel giddy with excitement. you would hate him for his spite and his unapologetic behavior, and that is why he's perfect. he's everything you hate about this world, but everything i love.
so when she gets to heaven and asks the angels "why?", they'll tell her it was him who made the devil cry. him, who held me like she should have—could have, if she hadn't terrified me—and who chased the nightmarish visions of her from my weary mind with his callous palms and soft-spoken reassurances. i wish i had known him when we were young; when things were not so simple and i needed a hand to hold; but i suppose we'll have to settle for faded photographs and stories told through the bitter aroma of alcohol. that's more than enough, i muse to myself, legs hooked over his as i rest my head on his shoulder, keening softly at the gentle scrape of his nails on my scalp. his arms wind around my waist as he mutters something along the lines of "i love you", his lips curling into a smile, illuminated by the televisions glow.
so when they ask of my religion, i will think of only him. i will recall the way he looks at me, the sound of my name on his tongue, the feeling of his lips trailing between the valley of my breast; featherlight, cautious and unfitting for a man of his nature. i've written songs of praise, all dedicated to him, and if only he knew, oh how smug he would be. but i love him, i love him, i love him. and when he spins me around like a marionette, it is with overwhelming pride and joy that i tell him this, and with rose hued cheeks and bashful grumbles, he tells me the same. so mother, wherever you are, i hope you know i've found my god.
I JUST FINISHED THE WISDOM OF CROWDS AND I HAVE SOME RANTING TO DO????
-holy FUCK where do I begin
-im so used to Abercrombie not killing off main characters that up until the moment orso died I was 100% sure he wouldn't die oh my god ORSO
-i knew glokta was the weaver I knew it I knew it I knew it
-hildi I love you so much I can't believe you're on bayaz's side now but I'm so excited for you too
-clovers new student is ummmm.... Logen without the fun jokes I'm terrified
-i spent the entire series being like oh god I'm so sure Zuri is an eater because glokta introduced her to savine but that's literally midderland racism I can't think that and then Abercrombie Abercrombied me
-tallow!?! All my fave sidekicks,,, hildi, tallow, jurand.. they all get good endings I guess but.. not the beck-type endings I wanted for them 🥺
-the ruthlessness and brutality of Leo and savines marriage literally had my heard racing for the last 20% of the book
-the amount of character development Leo goes through in this book is 😵💫😵💫😵💫
-i started this series liking Rikke, being slightly annoyed by Leo because he was just less funny jezel but i was interested in his storyline, and kinda loving orso, and really hating savine because child labour (and I guess clover and broad and vick were there)
-and I ended it loving Rikke, being so so so frustrated for Leo and by Leo, crying over orso's corpse, and wanting to punch savine being she's so smart and scary and urghrgrhrvh she literally says she's the villain but im still like please don't be the villain and I've never felt so conflicted over a character
-like in the past it's been like ya know, glokta, pretty brutal guy, logen, maybe hes murdered more people than winter, but I was basically on their side because I read from their povs
-but the way I just go from wanting someone to stab savine to wanting savine see her goals through chapter by chapter is literally crazy. Like she frustrates me so much, I hate her, I want her to win, I think she's totally reprehensible, I think she's redeemable, I think she's irredeemable, I think she's already been redeemed
-like I probably like Leo's arc the best out of everyone but Abercrombie has never made me conflicted over a character like savine, she sparks so many feelings in me, literally shaking
-rikke has come out of this entire series on my good side tho like,, she had me raising eyebrows when she fired isern but then she double girlbossed me
-even betraying orso I somehow can forgive her for
-fucking tunny getting out of this again.. that man is a slippy dippy
-i really hate broads ending! And savine is just here. Making my blood boil.
-i can picture in a future trilogy tho where hildi and may have a duel of ledgers... Amazing...
-i hope in the next trilogy old man clover backstabs bayaz one more time that goddamn bald wizard 🗡
-remember that old dude broad saw in a pub in a lil hatred with a lot of scars and a piece of his ear missing... I held out hope for so long that logen would show up one last time. I have no idea what he would do but I still hoped 😭
-GORST DYING GLORIOUSLY WAS DEEPLY SATISFYING BUT LEO REALLY ANNOYED ME BY NOT APPRECIATING THAT THE BRAT
-I can't bear to see Rikke lose the north in the next trilogy I just can't
-(also somehow I feel really bad for calder)
-i know I got my one happy couple in temple and shy but would it kill Abercrombie to give me.. maybe just one more.. sighs
-(also great job temple what a king get that coin)
-this trilogy is about parallels the old trilogy was about cycles what does that mean I don't know
-VICK BREAKING THE CYCLE BY JUST FUCKING OFF YES!! GOOD FOR HER! pleasedontgotostyria
-so do people know that glokta is back or?? Is he just gonna sit in a room for the rest of his life plotting and pulling strings? When is he gonna write that fencing manual? 🥺
-when he "retired" I was low-key hoping that he really was gonna write a fencing manual and two trilogies down the line people would be reading about various sword stances and someone would be like "you know back when I was a wee lad he was arch lector!" And then the pov character will be like idc
-when we were introduced to Rikke I thought like hearing a prophecy and believing it to be true and therefore bringing the prophecy into reality would be a theme of this series but I was very wrong her prophecies just seem to be straight up right ig...?
-its crazy bold for Abercrombie to not write a single pov character I was both interested in and wanted to root for (except mayyyybeeee Rikke)
-ive ignored all my responsibilities for the last 2 weeks reading ohmygodwhathaveidone
-10/10 I need to punch a wall
Could you explain the series in your bio? I know some but not others and I definitely need more books to read 😅
I would like nothing better than an excuse to rave about my favourite books! (Also I'm still fairly new to tumblr and this is one of my first asks, so this is all very exciting!)
Harry Potter - the OG, love of my life
A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR), Throne of Glass (ToG), and Crescent City (CC) by Sarah J Maas - the way these books have consumed my life for the past year, ACOTAR gets all the hype and has its own special kind of magic, but Throne of Glass is SJM's true epic masterpiece. Love that SJM has easter eggs for her other books in each series. Currently reading CC2 🎉 You can find me reigning supreme and feilding new reader questions over on r/throneofglassseries. Honestly, I could go on and on here, but this is just the start of the list.
From Blood and Ash (FBAA) by Jennifer L Armentrout was my go-to series after SJM. There's currently 4 books out (with the recent release of TWOTQ 🎉) as wells the first book out in a prequel series that will tie into the main storyline. (The Kieran and Reaver snark-fest is currently carrying this series lol)
The Folk of the Air trilogy (TFOTA, better known by the first book The Curel Prince) by Holly Black - devious faeries, court politics, badass MC, what more can I say?
Grisha Verse (this encompasses the Shadow and Bone trilogy, Six of Crows duology, and King of Scars duology) by Leigh Bardugo. (I am living for Ben Barnes as the Darkling in the Netflix adaptation)
Lord of the Rings (LotR) and A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF, aka Game of Thrones) - the high fantasy classics. Currently doing my first in-depth Tolkien read to follow-up with the Silmarillion because I'm a whore for book lore. Wheel of Time is also on my TBR for this summer.
Books that aren't in my bio but probably should be and I'll talk about them anyways because there can never be too many books:
The Plated Prisoner by Raven Kennedy - Gild, Glint, Gleam, and Glow comes out this May 🎉. This one is a bit of a dark horse the fantasy romance genre right now because everyone is recommending it but it doesn't really have its own fanbase yet. It started to come into its own in book 2, and book 3 left us realing. Just check the content warnings for this one
Kingdom of the Wicked by Keri Maniscalco - I love a morally grey character and desserts, so this one got an automatic pass lol. Witches and prices of Hell make a pretty good team, and book 2 definitely picked up, so I'm looking forward to book 3 this fall.
✨Manacled✨ by SenLinYu - now it may be unorthodox to include a fanfic in a book rec list, but Manacled is better than many published works I have read and it's had me in a deathgrip since I read two summers ago.
Twilight and The Mortal Instruments (Shadowhunter Chronicles) - there's a post that goes around saying that whatever you were obsessed with between the ages of 12-14 stays with you for life...well it's been 14 years and everytime I think I'm out, something sucks me right back in again lol
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (see the explanation from above lol) - I don't know if these are a had to have been there at the time, but they definitely sparked my interest in Greek Mythology. Rick's two follow-up series are on my neverending TBR.
Let me know if you want to know more about any of the above or if you have any recommendations! 💕
After a particular bad storm, Luz and king decide to have a movie night..
It should be fun, but Luz just hopes the two adults joining them don't kill each other in the next 2 hours...
"No way, I'd rather clean Hooty than watch some goofy kids movie"
"But Edaaa!" The teen whined, "There's nothing else to watch, and the storm nocked out all the power!"
Sure the power was out. Courtesy of the terrible weather. The magical grid through out the building had been temporarily shut off for hooty's safety, and so most things in the house had stopped working. But that wasn't a good enough reason for Eda to sacrifice napping time.
Eda watched as the human brought the box containing some human *VHS tape* titled "The Lion king" up to display.
"Come on Its a classic," Luz pleaded, " and you agreed, after some persuasion-"
- Manipulation."
"-that you'd do something with me and King," Luz pointed, "And you said I could pick. I pick movie night."
"Hey, I say alot of things. Doesn't make 'em true." Eda said with a shrug, "And don't even try to give me any puppy dog eyes kid, I'm immune now."
Luz pouted, and Eda watched as an idea formed on the girls face. Never a good sign..
"Well," Luz said, "You think your tough, but it'd be a shame if anyone in town found out you secretly like hugs!"
"You wouldn't dare," Eda gasped, "They'd never believe you!"
"Oh really? Try me." Luz challenged.
Damn it. Blackmail. She really was her kid. Eda knew teaching her would come back to bite her in the ass.
"Fine," She sighed, "But if anyone starts singing, I'm out."
"That might be a problem.. since it's a musical,"
Titan damn it.
***
And that's how thirty minutes later everyone was gathered in the living room as Luz stuffed human candies into some contraption and King dragged an assortment of snacks to the sofa, throwing them on the coffee table.
Even Lilith had been dragged out of her cave for the night.
"I didn't know you were interested in this stuff," King said to her sister as she settled in the furthest side of the couch, away from everyone else.
"Of course I'm not," She told him, "This is the only room in the house with sufficient enough lighting to read my book."
"If you say so," He muttered.
Eda plopped down onto the couch, opposite to her;
"Yeah, Lily's a nerd," She yawned, pulling a blanket over her self and settling in, "She doesn't do fun. So don't expect her to thrive in social situations."
"I'm not a nerd!" The other woman glared, " I'm trying to research a cure. For our curses."
"Save it," Eda snorted, "I'm fine the way I am, no thanks to you."
"I split the curse, what more do you want?"
"for you to take some damn accountability."
"How can I do that if you don't let me!?"
"I don't care, figure it out!"
"OK!" Luz cut in with fake enthusiasm, "The movies starting! Who's excited!?"
Eda snapped her gaze to the teen. The two adults had missed the worried looks both Luz and King had been giving them as things had escalated.
Eda felt a wave of guilt, as Luz wormed her way into her side, deviding the two sisters in the hopes of preventing some all out fist fight, she guessed. Eda wrapped an arm around the girl hugging her back as the movie started and music played.
"Hey king, pass some snacks up," Luz whispered.
"Get your own, peasant," He whispered back.
***
Lilith had tried her best to focuse on words of the book infront of her in the flickering candle light, but her gaze always wandered back to the small box set on the coffee table infront of them.
The demon had been scolded multiple times by the other two, as he always managed to sit himself directly infront of the screen every five minutes, completely engrossed in its contents.
Lilith didn't do musicals. She hated them. Always had.
Edalyns loud complaints and groans of annoyance when the characters had broke into song, were more obnoxious than the movie its self.
That was new.. wasn't Edalyn big into musicals back when they both were in school?
The human had sung along to every word, boasting that she knew the lyrics to all the "Disney songs," What ever the hell a Disney was, Lilith didn't know. And she didn't want to find out.
Lilith had also noticed the wary glances the human sent her every now and then, as if she thought Lilith would pounce on them all. Lilith couldn't blame them for that one, so she did her best to keep her gaze anywhere else but the rest of the room, and focused back in on her book.
***
King could sympathise with the young creatures desire to become king and rule over all those bellow him. The young lion was the most relatable main character he'd ever seen. Much better than those characters from Luz's books.
Someone hungry for status much like himself. Though King was already a king. Feared by all.
He clapped when Simba scratched the hyenas face. These animals names were weird he decided though. Lions. Hyenas. Elephants. The movie had even featured those freaks, the giraffes.
He understood the feeling of helplessness when both Simba and his companions had been trapped In the elephants grave yard, only to be saved by Simba's father Mufasa.
He gasped when he discovered Scar's plan to usurp his brother. Maybe Luz had chosen a good movie after all...
***
The human whiped tears from her eyes, then continued to blubber. King wailed clutching his stuffed animal. Even Edalyn seemed somewhat moved, though she didn't show it much.
The father had died apparently. Betrayed by his brother. Lured into a trap by his trusted sibling. His son used against him as bait.
OK maybe that one hit close to home. Hadn't she lured her sister to a witches duel using their apprentice against them? Seeing the broken form of the betrayed, forced images of what could have happened into Lilith's mind, and she suppressed a shudder.
Edalyn petrified. Luz skewered.
It hit her just how close she had come to getting both her sister and her sister's apprentice killed.
Damn it. She'd lost her page.
***
These guys had the right idea, "Hakuna matata", no worries. If society decides your not worth it, why not atleast relax and try to have a good time with your friends. Screw it. Y'know?
Maybe that's what she would've thought even a month ago. But she wasn't so sure that was such a great message to send kids. Abandon responsibly. She knew predictably that the movie would correct this. She was proved right of course.
***
Luz's excitement bubbled towards the end. She'd seen the movie a thousand times when she was younger. But big confrontations were always exhilarating to watch.
Though less fun when your the one confronting things in real life, that's where the beauty of fiction comes in; She was in the mood to enjoy some nice old fashioned living through fictional characters. No danger. Just movies and her family. And Lilith. She wasn't sure why Lilith was In the owl house. Not because of the storm. Just in general.
Luz would have figured Lilith would have found somewhere to stay by now. But it might be difficult for her, what with the Emperors Coven declaring her a wanted criminal, while the rest of them had been pardoned. A selfish part of Luz wished she'd just leave anyway. Her skin always crawled when the woman was around.
Luz felt bad about this. But it didn't stop her from occasionally thinking it.
She caught a glimpse of the woman In question, when Scar had been left to be killed by the hyenas. Lilith look paler than what seemed possible with her already ivory complexion. Her gaze fixed on the old mini TV. Was she rooting for Scar or something?
Luz wouldn't be surprised.
***
The villian had recieved what he deserved. To be vanquished by his enimies.
Lilith felt sick thinking of the similarities between her and the character.
Jealousy. Ambition. Cunning. The will to do what ever it takes.
She knew they were different. But she couldn't help but wonder what could've happend if she were more like this "Scar" character.
Titan. She thought this was just a kid's movie.
***
The movie finished. Eda had fallen asleep towards the end only to be gently shaken awake by Luz after. The movie hadn't been bad. She'd even enjoyed it, Eda wouldn't admit that to anyone though. Not in a million years.
Luz said goodnight with a tight, crushing hug, then carried King to bed. The little guy must have conked out at some point into the film.
Movie night accomplished and no one had even died. A win if ever there was one.
They would clean up in the morning but for now sleep, she made her way to leave as well but was stopped by her sister.
"Edalyn, I think we should talk.."
Land Or Sea
Part 1
Genre: A giant mix of angst, fluff and spice if you want to call it that?
Pairing: Lee x Ari
Warnings: Mentions of death... I think that's it?
Word Count: ≈6k total
-My twist on The Little Mermaid for the Tell A Fairytale event hosted by @acewriters
“Ari! Wait for me! You know it’s harder for me to swim with my hurt fin!” I hear from behind me. Looking back I see the bright orange hair covering my friends eyes. Brushing it aside, he huffs at me.
“Oh come on, River. Don’t be such a guppy!” I laugh. My younger friend, though he was almost a whole half a tail taller than me, had hurt his fin two weeks ago and though it had gotten a lot better, he was still slower than me.
“Oh hush you or I’m going to tell Mal that you’re going where you're not supposed to be.” I hear him snicker.
“Go right on ahead, then I’ll tell her that you were with me. Let’s see who’s in the dog house then.” I look behind me at his face. Noticing his lips in a tight line and his eyes glaring knives at me, I grin.
“That’s what I thought.” I snicker.
Mal is my best friend and the royal advisor to my father, Triton, the king of the sea. She is so much fun to be around, but let us get caught in a forbidden area and I’d never hear the end of it. River is her boyfriend, so it’d be double trouble for him… Especially with the hurt fin.
We push a little further, finally noticing the sunken ship we’d been looking for.
“There it is, River!” I smile, waving him forward to hurry.
"You know, if we get caught. Your father is going to throw us in the dungeon for a week." He smiles.
"That's why we can't get caught. Duh."
Swimming to the window, I peek inside. "AH!" jump back as an eel slides out. Grasping my chest, I hear River behind me laughing hysterically. Shooting him a look, I slip through the window. He stands guard as I search to see what I can find. Seeing something shine on the floor out of the corner of my eye, I look over to notice a ballerina figurine.
I pick it up, putting it in the bag on my back.
"Ari, come on. The waters are getting darker. We need to get back."
"Just 5 more minutes."
"Ari, now." He said, starting to get agitated.
"5 more minutes Ri!" I plead.
"Ariel! Let's go now!" He demanded.
"Fine!" I grumble, "I swear."
Heading back out of the window, I noticed it had gotten darker. It looked like there was a storm rolling in, but there were no signs of it when we came this way.
"Alright, we need to hurry back." I say, avoiding his 'I told you so' gaze.
Swimming as fast as he could, I tried to help him.
"Okay, this is my bad. We should have left earlier."
"I couldn't have left earlier. Now, let's get moving. Mal is going to have our tails for this."
Right, I’d had to wait on him because he’d wanted to spend time with Mal before she had to go to my father’s council meeting. Those things always lasted forever.
Finally reaching the city, we parted ways and I headed home. Swimming in the door, I notice Mal in the living room.
"We need to talk." She says.
We go up to my room and I place my bag on my desk.
"You missed the meeting today."
"What meeting? I never go- Oh snap! I completely forgot I was supposed to be there today. I'm sorry Mal!" I say, feeling horrid.
"Your father is furious. You may want to apologize to him, not me. I have a feeling someone else is going to be apologizing to me."
"I will… I'm going."
-------------------
Apologizing to my father had been a failure. I'd spent most of the evening trying to apologize. I'm grounded, even though I'm an adult. The joy of being a princess, you never fully escaped.
I'd made my way back to my room after that chaos and collapsed on my bed. Looking out of my window, I see something flickering at the top of the water.
It was distant but I got curious. Swimming closer, I notice it's flames! I swim up. There's pieces of wood and trinkets falling everywhere now, I have to dodge them.
I poke my head above the water and hear men screaming for someone from a lifeboat.
"Lee! Lee? Where are you?" They yell. They look around frantically, but never see me or the man. They head away. I'm assuming giving up hope.
I begin wandering around and looking, pushing pieces out of my way.
I happen to notice him stuck on a piece of wood drifting off in the opposite direction. He had been hit by something, knocking him out and had a cut on his head.
"Oh! Wait!" But they were already too far gone. I decide to take him myself. I grab the wood and push him in the direction of the beach a few miles away. It wasn't easy but I managed. He weighed more than he looked and I'm not huge myself, but I finally made it to shore. The sun was coming up now. The only thing I could do was drag him off the wood and onto what little sand I could get to.
He was beautiful. Brown hair that was fluffy after it had dried on the way here, sharp features and a small scar on his left side of his face.
He groaned.
Oh no… I start to head back to the water.
His eyes flutter open and look directly at me, his brown eyes shining in the morning sun, "You saved me."
"I did. If not you would have drowned. Now, I have to leave. I'm sorry."
"Wait!"
It was too late, I was already in the water and swimming home.
Wow. A human. A man. A gorgeous one at that…
I make my way into my bedroom window and get under my blankets, hoping nobody noticed I was missing.
"Where have you been?" I hear from the corner of my room. I jump and look over.
"River! You can't do that to someone!"
"Answer the question, Ari."
"I took a swim. Now I'm going back to sleep."
"Yeah okay. If you say so." He swims out of the window, agitated and I lay there daydreaming of the man I saved.
The next few days that passed, all I could see was his face. I want to see him again. I will. I'll go and see him tonight! I manage to keep my excitement down to a minimum, only River and Mal notice. Which is normal because I spend a lot of time with them.
I go to bed early, and sneak out. Swimming until I arrive at the beach where I'd left him. He was walking along it. His brown hair straight, in a white sweater and slacks. He was holding his shoes as he walked, feeling the sand on his feet. I wish I could do that.
He looks my way and I hide behind a rock.
"Hello? I saw you! Please don't be shy!"
"I'm sorry! I'm not supposed to be here! It's forbidden!" I yell to him from behind the rock.
"But you saved me."
"I did and I'd do it again."
"At least tell me your name."
"I'm sorry, I have to go."
"Please!"
I'd gone under before I could say more. I feel bad about leaving him standing there so I decide to go back there tonight to see if he was there. Lo’ and behold, he was. I decide to swim close enough so he could see me.
“What’s your name?” Lee asks, wide brown eyes looking in my direction, as if he’s not believing what he’s seeing.
“Why should I tell you? So you can tell all your friends of my existence and they can hunt me down?” I say.
“No! Of course not! I’m in awe… I want to thank the woman that saved my life, properly.” My mouth opens in shock as he continues, “I saw a glimpse of you last time, I just want to know your name to match your face. Which is much more beautiful up close, if I may say.”
“Ariel.”
“Ariel? Well, it’s so nice to meet you Ariel. Thank you for risking your life to save mine.” He smiles.
“Ari.” I say, smiling, “Call me Ari.”
I went back the next few nights, singing to signal him that I’d arrived, I waited for him to come out. He hears me and comes out, smiling, coming to sit on the rock at our meeting spot. We talk until he’s so tired he couldn’t keep his eyes open and I had to tell him I’d come back tomorrow because I need to get back before my father wakes. We continued this for a few weeks and I grew to love talking to him. He was funny and handsome and I became comfortable with him. He’s the first human to see me, the first human I felt a connection to.
I couldn’t hide my happiness any longer, I had to tell someone. I knock on Mal’s door, after returning from my visit with Lee, so it was around 6 a.m. River answers, with a strange look on his face.
“What are you doing here so early and why are you so smiley?” He asks.
“I need to talk to your girlfriend.”
“Alright, come in.” He says, moving aside so I can slip by, “she’s in the bedroom still.”
“Okay, thank you.”
Opening their bedroom door, I see Mal laying in bed, reading. She’s normally up and ready for work by now.
“Hey. You’re here early this morning.” She chuckles, closing her book.
“Yes, I am. I haven’t been to bed yet,” My smile fades, worrying about her. “Are you okay? Normally you are about to come to the palace. You’ve felt sick for a few weeks lately.”
“I’m fine, I just needed a day off. I was grateful your father approved,”
“Of course he would! You’re like a daughter to him, not just his advisor. He takes anything that you say seriously. So if you needed a day, he’d do it in a heartbeat.” I smile.
She smiles at me and pats my hand, “You guys and Riv are the only family I have, I’m happy with that. Now tell me, why did you come in here smiling to no end.
“It’s a slightly long story. Do you have time? And remember, this is best friend territory, okay? Completely sworn to secrecy, until death”
“I have all day. Well, as much as needed. I’d like to stay in this bed all day if possible.” She smiles and nods. I chuckle and dive into my story about everything, starting with the shipwreck.
Her face went from mortified that I was being so careless, to understanding. To say she was mad at first, was an understatement…
“Why would you do this, repeatedly, without telling anyone Ariel? Do you know how stupid that was? You could have been hurt!” She panics, causing River to come in and check on her.
“Please, Mal, calm down. Let me explain.” She calms down, but River doesn’t want to leave her side. Mal reassures him she’s fine now and leaves us to finish our talk. She breathes deep a few times and signals me to continue.
I explain what has been going on and the talks Lee and I have had. About how he is an only child, and his parents passed away when he was in school far away. How he’s managing the small kingdom he runs, on his own. I also explain that he’s seen me and that he is the type, like she, to hold that secret until death. She isn’t happy that I showed myself to a human, but she understands taking leaps of faith because Mal and River were never supposed to be together either. Seeing her understand what I’m dealing with and being there for me even though she’s not happy with the situation, I feel tears in my eyes. She’s genuinely happy for me. And her and River’s hopeful love story of forbidden love, leads me into my next dilemma.
I also tell her that I think I love him,,,
She smiles widely, “I always tell you not to do what I’ve done. Seems you one upped me, in that department anyway. You fell for a human, but I have my own secret to tell you.” I smile and laugh. Grabbing the pillow beside her and smacking her with it playfully.
“Someone has to make you look good. What is your secret? Tell me. Tell me.”
She leans forward and whispers in my ear. My eyes get wide and I’m so happy that I could scream. She shushes me and I hold in my excitement.
“Mhmm. Sure. So as your best friend, when are you going back to meet him?”
“Tonight. I really need to get home to sleep for a while.” I laugh looking at the time, 8:43 a.m.
“Yeah, you may want to, in case your dad looks for you this morning.” She laughs.
River knocks on the door and pokes his head in, “May I have my girlfriend back now?”
“Yes, you may. I was just about to leave.” I smile, getting up and giving her a hug, “Thank you for understanding.”
She nods, “Just remember to let me know some way that you’re going. I don’t care if you leave a pebble on my windowsill.”
I laugh but agree and head home, finding my bed and drifting off to sleep within minutes. I wake up to eat before slipping out for the night. I swing by Mal’s and place a pebble I’d painted a yellow smiley face with a blue heart, on her window; smiling I take off to meet Lee.
I began to sing when I went tonight, hoping he'd hear me and appear, yet he didn’t… I decide to wait for him. I'm beginning to worry after a few hours of him not showing...
"He's not here my dear." I hear behind me. Spinning around, I see the sea witch.
"Why? What's going on?"
"He's sick, my dear."
"Sick? Sick how!?"
"He fell ill yesterday morning."
"But that's impossible! I spoke to him just last night!"
"Well, he must have hidden it really well or really wanted to talk to you."
"Oh no. No! I have to get to him. I have to help him."
I need to find a way. I would.
“I'm sorry. I've got to go." I start to go around the witch to get home.
"I can help him."
"What do you mean you can help him?" I ask, cautiously.
"I can fix him for a price."
“What price?” I ask, more nervous this time.
“Give me your voice and I’ll fix him right now.” she demands.
“You could do that?”
“Yes, I could.”
“I- I don’t know if I could do that.”
“Well, if you decide to. Follow the current south from the castle. I assume you know how to get there though.”
I nod and take off home.
I swim as fast as I can and make it back before dawn. Instead of going home, I make a stop at Mal’s. I need to talk to her. Knocking on her door, I realize she may still be asleep, even though she gets up early, it’s still too early for her.
To my surprise, she answers the door…”Ari, what are you doing here? Is everything alright at the castle?” she asks, her eyes growing worrisome.
“At the castle, yes. But, I need your advice as my best friend and not the royal advisor.” I say.
She asks me to come in and I begin telling her everything. River is still asleep, so it’s like old times.
“So, you’re saying that you really love him? Even though you barely know him and may never know him in any other way and you want to help him?” She asks, “And yes, I know you feel like you know him through your talks.”
“Yes. And I know it sounds weird, but I have to.”
“Best friend’s advice only? Don’t go to the witch. She’s mean and cruel. Scope the beach out and make sure she’s not lying. Maybe your father would grant you time on land, if you told him it was to only make sure he was okay?” she suggests.
“Okay, I’ll talk to father when I get home. Thank you, Mal.”
“You’re welcome, Ari. And do me a favor, don’t take River out so far next time. His fin is doing better, but it’s been aching again for the past few days.” She smiles, coming to hug me and send me on my way.
“You got it. Thanks again.” I hug her back and head home.
Father was already awake and in the dining area. I decided to tell him the truth. Even if it meant getting punished.
“You did what?” He demands, getting angry.
“Father, please.” I plead, “I told you what I did and I’ve found out he’s sick. I need to see him and help.”
“You disobeyed me too many times, Ariel. Absolutely not! Why should I even remotely want to do this for you?”
“Because I love him! And I will do this one way or another Father, please. I’m asking for your help, not the help I’ve been offered already, but I will go to her if that’s the only option I have.”
“You think you love him. What other offer?” he says, angrily.
I stand tall, even though my insides are twisting from anxiety, “The sea witch.”
“Ariel, you will do no such thing! She’s a witch and an evil one at that!” He says, getting up from his seat.
“I will father. I may be a princess, but I am also an adult.”
“Ariel…” He says, hurt by my words.
I turn and walk out, hoping he’ll think about it and agree.
“Wait,” he says and I turn around, “I will help you, on one condition.”
“What? Anything, please.”
“I will grant you legs in order to go help him for 2 days and only two. But at the end of the second day, you will come back home. No questions or complaints. You will come back home and resume your duties as princess.”
“Deal.” I say, without hesitation.
With reluctance, even after I promise to come back, my father agrees to take me at the end of the night.
“Ariel, what are you planning on doing?” I hear as I come out of the dining area, where father had been eating breakfast. I look around and see River, arms crossed, looking at me.
“I’m doing what I have to do,” I reply.
“Mal told me. You don’t have to do this. You don’t know this man.”
“I do, River. I really do. Please don’t do this. Mal trusts me, that’s all I’m asking from you.” I say, sadly.
He shakes his head at me. “I hope so.”
He leaves and I get things ready and make some medicine for Lee, hoping it will work better than human medicine. I get completely ready and when I finish, I decide to nap.
“Ariel, wake up.” I hear and I shift in my bed.
“Ariel.” I hear again, opening my eyes slowly.
“What is it father?” I ask.
“Are you still wanting to go?” He asks. I jump up and grab my bag and the dress I was planning to wear.
“I’m ready.” I say, in a serious tone.
He smiles, “You really are willing to do this?
“It’s the easiest decision of my life, Father.” I smile at him.
“You really are your mother’s daughter. The most like her out of you and your sisters.”
I feel tears sting my eyes. My mother had fallen ill after she had me and passed. I never knew her like my 4 sisters did and always wondered. I hug my father tightly, happy to hear what he told me.
“Now, come Ariel, let’s get this done.”
I nod and we set out for the beach where I had met Lee on many nights and talked until early morning. We swim for a while, not bothered by the silence between us. Once we get there, I speak first, “This is it, What do I do now?” I ask, looking at my father.
“Go to him, do what you must and be back in two days' time. I will be waiting here at the same time as now.” He says and I smile and hug him tightly.
“Thank you. I love you.” I say, quietly.
I head close to shore to where I could touch sand and my father swirls his trident on top of the water. Feeling weird sensations in my fins, I look down, only to notice legs. Human legs… I smile, looking up at my father and wave my toes at him.
He laughs, tossing my bag at me. I grab the blue dress wrapped around my bag and slip it on, it’s wet, but it’ll dry soon enough.
“Be safe and strong, my darling Ariel. I will see you soon.” He says, smiling sadly and disappearing under the water to return to our home.
Thoughts journal about Season 13!! 💪💪 (1/4)
Phew, I actually made it to the English release without spoilers! 🤩 I do know general things about little plots for the ninja, hopefully nothing major! Finally, the Cole season we've all been waiting for, with Rock Mom and possibly plenty of our Earth baby development! COLE IN THE SPOTLIGHT AT LAST!! 🖤🖤
Well, I know I'll be shooting rainbows from my eyeballs if I see even one Nexo Knights reference! For the rest I don't really know what will happen, I'm curious! 🤔
It's the 6th of July, and here we go!!
GENERAL THOUGHTS
Is it just me or the dialogues sounds better? More built up, funnier, cohesive just like in the earliest seasons of Ninjago? Maybe it's just me but I'm really appreciating 🤷♀️
It also doesn't feel that rushed anymore! Which was my biggest problem in Prime Empire really. The episodes seem to me like fragments of a nice movie, not a too long story forced into 11 minutes. I'm very happy with the quality so far, I feel good about this for now! 👍
No matter what season it is, you can count on The Fold to make an AMAZING intro!! Freaking awesome, it was epic and very final battle like 👌👌 I WANT THE FULL VERSION ASAP!!!
SHINTARO
I do appreciate we are not forgetting about the adventures we had until now, it feels like from season 11 forward we are building a new backstory of. But they still show stuff from the very first seasons so I'm happy anyway 😍
Pff, Cole plays Prime Empire right after being trapped in it. And Lloyd joins in! YES!! Maybe there is hope for a season without greenie being traumatized! 👍👍
Also he's doing laundry because I DON'T WANNA DO THE DISHES NO MORE~ 😎
The chicken is back 😂 The constant reference to the movie we are all kinda attached to a this point (well I am, LOOK AT THE LITTLE HAT 💕💕)
Is it me being a "I've rewatched this show way too much" type of fan to feel that Nya saying that Jay using Spinjitzu for chores will get Wu mad might be a reference to how the guys had cleaned the very first Destiny Bounty with that? You think that Wu found out and got crazy mad? That would be kinda cool 😂😂
Okay, poor sensei and all, but he's kinda right 😅 I like Wu, I really do, but Aspheera was a problem kinda because of him, they all going to another dangerous realm could have been dealt a lot better if he hadn't been so on edge and in Prime Empire he freaking got kidnapped by NORMAL PEOPLE. Maybe he is getting old 🤷♀️
At last, he has returned...
THE ONE AND ONLY RULER OF NINJAGO, THE POSTMAN!!! 💜💜💜 Was he missing since March of the Oni? I can't remember if he was around for the Aspheera part 🤔
Soooo, not to be that person, but a secret group of royals asking the ninja to meet them in a place that was never open for outsiders before then? Kinda... feels familiar... *SoG flashbacks* 😰
Okay, not the biggest fan of Misako, but her scolding Wu was kinda fun 🤣 Needed to change the animation for her to get a bit of personality apparently 😉
Ah, you left Pixal behind to let her do... chores. Well, if you guys are happy 😒
Ninja babies all excited ❤💚💙🖤🤍💦 Also I'm excited because there is FINALLY a white heart between the emoji! I didn't notice it until now, I just need a gray/maroon heart now 😍
Jay screaming NOT MADE UP cracked me up so much 😂😂 Gosh I love my bluebell
A bit of action scene, nice, nice, also Cole going full buddy mode to save Jay gives me my beautiful Bruise vibes 💙🖤💙🖤
Well hello Brian
Looking good 💕💕 The designs are rocking in season 12 and 13, I cannot tell it enough! Super super cool
Overall nice episode, seemed more nicely focused than usual, I don't know if it's just me. I'm happy anyway 😁
Ooohhhh, so the sails were ripped off by the bats, and they were flying thanks to the soldier guys with wings. It makes sense, I was confused by the trailer, now there's the answer!
IN THE DARK
Okay, Vania introduction, I wonder what kind of princess we will get after last ti-
Vania: I'm such a big fan of you, I was the one that insisted at having you here! 🤩
... besides the fact that she sounds and looks absolutely ADORABLE, I'm kinda with Lloyd about feeling suspicious... because that's exactly how Harumi introduced herself back then 😅 And away it goes, the possibility of Lloyd spending a season without feeling disturbed or traumatized...
Ah, there we go, Cole and Vania. Soft looks, instant attention and... that's it? Idk, Jay and Nya's meeting had that one very awkward color question (💙❤💙❤), Kai literally heard romantic music while looking at Sky (❤🧡❤🧡), Lloyd was being mocked all the way by the guys as he looked at Harumi (💚😰💚😰). This one seems a bit weak? I don't mind it actually, I'm actually a bit curious about how it will develop since it started like this 🤷♀️
References to Hiroshi's Labyrinth and the Tournament of Elements, my fangirl heart is happy 😍 Is it too much thinking that the maze was a reference to Shadow of Ronin, since they all went there in the game while in the show only Lloyd was at the Labyrinth? Idk 🤷♀️
JAY SAYING COLE IS HIS BEST FRIEND, YES!! YES!! FINALLY, HAVEN'T HEARD IT SINCE SKYBOUND!!! BROTP IS BACK 🖤💙🖤💙 Also Jay confused that Vania is interested in Cole, pff, you clearly don't know the fandom 😂
But it is a bit fishy, does she knows stuff? Now I'm into it...
Lloyd sneaking in, that was creepy 🤣 And ninja like, of course
I kinda like how this is going, Cole straight up saying dude, I just met her, calm down. Like, I do understand green bean and I'm kinda on his side, but still 🤷♀️
Cole: I'm not just gonna jump on the lovesick wagon like you weirdos, geez
"It felt like a cloud of warm contentment." I'm gonna use this whenever someone asks me why have I been in my bed all day 😎
I know they all believed Cole was just dreaming the purple guy, but honestly they could have just said "Cole, we had flaming snakes raining on Ninjago a few weeks ago, what are you so worked up about?". But yeah, ROCK MOM FINALLY!!! I wanna know more!! 😍😍😍
Mr Sparkles 😂😂 So cute
Vania is cool for now, she is basically the innocent Harumi without a scarring tragedy from her past changing her into a vengeful villain... yeah 😅
Did Cole notice that she talks a lot and loud, kinda like Jay? Is that why he seemed a bit annoyed? 😂😂
For now they don't seem that annoyingly into each other, they look chill, no major lovesick moment or anything. I like it, I don't know if this ship will be super important or something, but at least I'm happy they are dealing with it in a different way 👍
With all these creatures chained up and a crazy dude making them work, Cole must have one HECK of a flashback from back in Chen's island 😵
Okay, I get the drama, I get the lair which is
Legit cool, with that nice Underworld vibe, but really? A wood door with ropes behind a lava fall? Security measures who? 😂😂
So Skull dude is the bad guy, and has a mask. People with masks means big reveal at some point. I like dudes with masks 😗
Aaaahhh, figures it was too easy being in a literal mine with the power of Earth. They really can't keep their powers for more than five seconds now can they 😂😂
But this seems interesting, is it connected with the burst thing they said in the trailer? Or even Cole's mom? Is this Skull Sorcerer connected to her? I HAVE QUESTIONS PEOPLE!!!
I am legit enjoying this 👌 They are building up questions and I do hope we'll get a good flashback moment with Rock mom... or even finding out if something else happened to her... EXCITED 🤩🤩
So to be the main ninja of a season lately you have to be either without powers (Kai Fire Chapter) or trapped in an unknown place (Zane Ice Chapter and Jay Prime Empire). Cole got them both 😅
IT REALLY IS ROCKY'S SEASON FINALLY 😎😎
WORST RESCUE EVER
Mm, the king is being weird, what's up with this mountain thing? Does he know who the Skull Sorcerer is? QUESTIONS
So Vania keeps being extremely adorable, I think I really like her character 💕 We'll see what will happen with her, how she will interact with the others, especially Lloyd since he seems very suspicious... can't really blame him 😅
Kai ready to argue with a king because one of his friend is in danger, THAT'S MY FLAME BABE ❤❤❤
Okay, the conflict between the two tribes, I read about this in some plots of the season. Not sure how that will play, but
I did laughed at this 😂 Sorry Mole
Okay, seriously, have we not learned anything from letting Kai come up with a plan? The notoriously bad planner Kai? The think before talking Kai? The let's follow the sun because yes Kai? I love him to dead but really, it was meant to go bad right away even if the title wasn't that 😅😅😅
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO GOT EMOTIONAL AT COLE'S NINJA-GO WHILE DOING SPINJITZU?? 😭😭 They don't say it that much anymore before spinning, it kinda hit my tornado shaped heart 🖤🖤
I expected at least a comment about them being similar to the Skulkin, too bad. Not fundamental though, I'm really enjoying this so far 👍
Well, all of the ninja are trapped now 😅 Is Wu going to come for the rescue? Is Vania? I know they will be separated and will all go on separated quests, and I'm kinda more looking forward to it now. Let's see what happens!! 🤩
THE TWO BLADES
Considering how big of a fan Vania seems to be of the ninja, I bet she had those figures way before this moment 😂
Wooooo, hearing someone addressing Cole as the leader, does this count as a major throwback to pilots and season 1? I would make it count 😍
Okay here Vania does seem into Cole, we'll see how that plays out 🤷♀️
Ooooooooohhhhhh, vengestone! This actually make more sense than the last two times they were left without powers 😅 We never actually saw where that material came from, and here there's an actual mine full of it! Very cool, I like this! Big question is, what does Skull dude need all this vengestone for? 🤔🤔
Okay, the legends fits, sounds good enough but... she? SHE?!? WAS THAT ROCK MOM??? She was clearly a ninja and she did spinjitzu!! I didn't even considered the possibility, I only saw Misako, Doubloon and Aspheera knowing Spinjitzu before!! An actual mom?? THAT WOULD BE EPIC!! 🖤
Pff, these tribes are a bunch of idiots, I actually like them 😂 I like them better than the rats of Prime Empire that's for sure, but maybe that's just me 🤔
Aww, this Mino creature is cure! Cole did pretty good with him, does he remind him of Rocky? ☹
Nice, this I was waiting for! Cole and Lloyd together, leaders collaboration 💚🖤💚🖤 It didn't last much, but I think there will be more of it? I HOPE SO!!!
So the blades must be somewhere hidden, if they really have been taken by the Skull Sorcerer. I mean, even in Prime Empire they thought for sure Unagami was Dyer, so I wouldn't jump on it right away 🤔
There we go, the divided team! I knew about Kai and Zane stuck together, I remember stuff not too promising about Nya having to fight for Jay, but I'm honestly really enjoying the season so far! I like the pace and it doesn't seem as rushed as before! I hope we get to some good plot twists and backstories soon!! 🤩🤩
