Oh my gosh so much is going on in the music and visuals of the Xiao Chasm cutscene. So many thoughts, mostly from Xiao’s pov

For the narrative aspect, I’m looking at primarily the music’s motifs/leitmotifs, as well as the animation’s editing (that is, sequential order of shots) and shot composition (visual symbolism)

Context: I know the quest’s general plot but not the details. This is my first time watching this cutscene. This post will make more sense if you have it side-by-side with the cutscene video.

Warning: near character death, Xiao’s suicidal ideation is the general theme but I discuss it in a particularly graphic manner in one line for the 3:09 section

1:02 - is that the same motif that appeared in “Storm Befalls” and “Perpetual Motion of Wind”. Would that part symbolize the Anemo element—“Storm Befalls” plays when we first meet the corrupted/mind-controlled Stormterror who’s under the assumption that Mondstatians betrayed him when it was his duty to guard them—oh, and maybe duty vs freedom?

1:09 - is that the motif from the cryobedo shot in the 2.3 PV, what. Corruption? (Cryobedo is a Whooperflower corrupted by Durin’s blood, and Durin & Dragonspine heart is associated with deep red and black. likewise Xiao seems to be holding back some sort of deep red/black corruption)(that look like a whale for some reason. I’m probably distracted) Idk

1:24 - Yelan is showing off her elemental attacks so we’ve got the default motif based on a Mond battle theme that shows up a lot in attack shots of character demo soundtracks. Makes sense, good job

1:31 - I LOVE how Xiao’s leitmotif from his demo is included. In his demo this bit is played when he’s about to give in to the corruption at the marsh, I think.

1:36 - And then in this cutscene it cuts to a flashback of Zhongli’s lone figure with the music immediately calming (paralleling Venti’s lone flute in Xiao’s demo. I see what you did there.) and also obvious foreshadowing to Zhongli saving him a few minutes later

1:56 - Xiao’s demo leitmotifs continues as we move back to the present. We get multiple sections all out of order from the demo. We also see everyone fighting the dark blob things. These guys are in deeeeep danger—but especially Xiao.

2:29 - that shot communicates how tiny and weak they are against this dark energy as it overtakes the blue circle. Perfect

2:53 - the Fantastic Compass is cracking and Xiao’s mask too in the next shot. Really feels like they’re not gonna make it. The Yaksha General Alatus is going down

3:09 - Yenfei: “You can’t keep this up… your strength won’t last…” *Immediately a calm and inappropriately uplifting flute (?) & strings version of Xiao’s leitmotif (near the start of his demo, but that one is with a heavily distorted electric guitar) plays.* Xiao’s duty is coming to an end and he’s gonna sacrifice himself for the sake of protecting the rest of the group. (It’s like… the mentality of suddenly being calm and cheerful as one plans to commit suicide, not because they enjoy death, but because they believe this is the only way that their suffering will end.)

3:18 - *animation shows him sending everyone back* Yelan desperately reaching out to Xiao and with Paimon’s tiny voice calling out for him breaks my heart… and the magic compass. It’s shattered. He’s gone

3:35 - The golden threads of a Geo symbol save Xiao who’s falling in the darkness. It’s obviously Zhongli—as foreshadowed in that earlier shot I talked about. (Also isn’t that glow pattern the same as Zhongli’s “vision” glow)

3:47 - brief shot of Zhongli’s robe as he overlooks the chasm. Nice, obvious confirmation to every foreshadowing about him that occurred before. Woohoo. Xiao looks back in the next shot. He knows

General conclusion: I think… if you’re familiar with Xiao’s & Zhongli’s basic settings, Xiao’s character demo, the Yaksha intro cutscene, and the basic premise/plot of the Chasm quest, then by music alone you should be able to guess the major emotional beats in this cutscene. (The cutscene’s soundtrack is called “Hang by a Thread”.) Genshin Impact’s musical storytelling is godly.

THOUGHTS ON 376 TIME! WOOHOO!!

Three thoughts came into my mind on this page.

One, that “we still haven’t had our chat about romance” is a thought in ochako’s head, not just a distraction. (Very interesting..) But I may just be reading the bubbles incorrectly, as I’m aware that last chapter she said this to Ochako. Could it be Toga remembering it? Another possibility too.

Two, that Toga believes this is Ochako trying to TAKE BACK her rejection in some light. To my knowledge, (and if the translators didn’t mess anything up too badly, sorry y’all I’m aware it won’t be perfect no matter what) “taking a hint” is often used in English to describe someone not backing off romantically. The hint being, “I don’t have feelings for you”. (Edit: this post translated it in its most literal form, and it said “persistent” so, I still stand by what I said. It’s sounds like someone rejecting a romantic confession)

And number three, the most important. “Can’t take a hint” is the most tongue and cheek thing I’ve seen. IT SOUNDS LIKE IN MY VERY BIASED SHIPPER MIND THAT, THE AUDIENCE, AKA US, HAVENT GOTTEN THE HINT WITH THESE TWO.

I saw literal radio silence when chapter 375 came out. Now, I’m aware that togachako is a bit of a rare pair. Not only is it a sapphic ship, but it’s also with a more “problematic” dynamic, and with a character that was introduced later on into the series. Wayyyy after ochako was introduced as Izuku’s love interest.

Most bkdk shippers either outright ignore ochako, hate her, or ship her with Tsu. I only judge one option out of the three, as it’s usually born out of misogyny. (Purposefully or not, I’ve seen people love male characters with the same “annoying” traits ochako has. Tbh, most people hate her bc she’s a girl and she’s feminine. That’s it)

Anyway yeah, and the only people who really care about her character development are one: Ochako stans (love y’all <3) two: togachako shippers (me) and three: izu//ocha shippers. (Censored so that I don’t tread on their territory as I’m about to be a little…. Eh to them and their interpretations)

Now, izu//ocha shippers to me are pretty neutral. There’s the dudebros who I think everyone hates, and then there’s the normal batch of people. A mix of people who enjoy the series very casually, or people who just generally like them.

Because of this fact, however, they are, like me, also biased. Meaning if I presented my thoughts on togachako to an izu//ocha shipper, I will and have been called a little bit of a conspiracy theorist about it. That I’m in denial, yada yada. All that junk. And if I’m wrong? Then shit, guess it’s me getting kicked in my ass all over again for trusting a shonen writer. I have fandom to help me cope. I’ll live.

Now, because of this bias, it leaves the interpretations of chapters 289, 342, 348, and even 375 all deemed as “izu//ocha chapters”, because what else could it be leading up to other than that?

And that’s why I HOPE and I PRAY that Horikoshi pulls the rug out from under your feet. I hope and pray every day that’s what happens. If only to confirm in my mind that my eye for detail isn’t sketchy or rough around the edges. Or that my conclusions aren’t just delusions. I don’t like to be wrong, thank you very much.

The other thing I wanted to delve a little into. Toga’s mind is a labyrinth that I don’t think even us as the audience has quite cracked yet.

I like to think I understand people. Not in the casual social way, god no. Social cues are not my thing. But reading people? Getting to the bottom of their issues and wrenching them from their depths and into the open for someone to see? THATS what I’m good at. Understanding a person and how they work. Because, let me tell you, there is a reason for each and every thing a person does. Every little detail, from the way they stand to how they choose their words. How someone reacts defensively and offensively are the biggest giveaways to who a person actually is.

Toga Himiko’s walls are miles thick. They appear sheen, like she wears her emotions on her sleeve, but that’s just not TRUE. Before she broke, it was forced neutrality to the wrongdoings in her life. Possibly even any form of happiness wasn’t deemed respectable to wear. The mask was on at all times, no matter what, but now? Now it’s a smile. The mask is still there, it still exists. It’s just in a different form, something made to protect HER rather than EVERYONE else. It’s interesting.

Another notable thing about Toga, she’s cried once, in the entire manga. She has cried once.

And it wasn’t even for Twice’s death.

If toga were to cry at Twice’s death, if toga were to express any other vulnerability other than anger at his death, then she would be left with two things: the mask, shattered; the one that mattered. And two, she would have to accept that everyone was right about her. That she was a tragedy.

And not only was she a tragedy, but she had to accept that death affected her. That the love she “experienced” for people like Izuku or Sato, wasn’t love. Because she loved twice, yet never wanted to BECOME him.

And I can hear it now, “doesn’t she want to be ochako too?” No, actually. She wants to be like her.

And, if you ship bkdk, you probably follow some other analysis creators on here. People who have talked about Izuku wanting to become LIKE Katsuki, not become him.

And that begs the question, does ochako want to become deku? Or become like him?

I think it’s both.

The thing is, Ochako ofc can’t physically become him, but at every turn of trying to be like him, it hasn’t really let her evolve. It’s held her back, actually, like at the sports festival. Ntm, this requires some level of natural imitation, something Ochako clearly lacks in her relationship to Izuku.

But she does not lack with Toga.

Idk if I showed it here before, and if I didn’t, I apologize for not explaining completely at least. Essentially, Ochako naturally imitates how Toga looks in both her hairdo and some choice facial expressions. Toga naturally imitates through posing techniques mid air and behavior parallels. I don’t feel like grabbing the panels, sorry!!

But back to Himiko, I think that she desperately wants close connection, is extremely insecure about herself, and actively hides behind smiles. Not only that, but she’s been trying to imitate shigaraki this entire time by having his “I don’t care about love and I wanna destroy the world” attitude and disdain. Showing she’s trying to find the most powerful people in her mind right now to hide from herself, her own sadness. She wants to hide from her rejection, and views the rejection itself as her. She knows that people see something especially unnerving and wrong about her, yet doesn’t completely understand why. So this rejection sensitivity is not only heightened by her trauma, but also Twice’s death.

With him gone, she now becomes unnervingly aware that she does not like death the way she thought she did. She also can’t escape the reality that no one has ever truly cared about Toga Himiko as a person.

And in her mind, following Jin’s death, no one ever will.

One last note, these two panels felt like parallels to me. Might be a stretch.

The Abbott Elementary Fandom Gift Exchange Challenge is officially HAPPENING.

Hello friends and welcome to my (@straperine) love letter to this lovely fandom: organizing a gift exchange for wintertime/Christmas time/Holidays time, whatever you would like to call it. Let’s get into the nitty gritty without any further ado.

What is a gift exchange?

Basically, a challenge where you create a fanwork for another person based on their set of preferences/requests and in return you get a fanwork created for you based on your set of preferences/requests!

How will this gift exchange work?

To sign up, you’d have to fill THIS GOOGLE FORM and give information about the kind of gift you would like to receive and the kind of gift you can make. You would also say if you’re willing to pitch in as a replacement/make more than one work for possible dropouts (see below) or if we have an uneven number of participants.

Once sign ups close (see timeline), I will match up pairs of gift giver/gift receiver based on how well their preferences line up and send out the information to the gift givers.

You (the gift giver) will then confirm you’re still in and get started, woohoo.

About 10 days before the deadline (again, see timeline) I will check in with you (the gift giver) to see how it’s going with the gift and see if you need an extension or a replacement, so everyone gets a gift in the end for sure.

Once the deadline hits (timeline!) I will make sure everything’s ready to go, and then over the span of a week the gifts will be posted, gift givers will be revealed, and we can have fun!

What can I make as a gift?

Draw a fanart!

Make a moodboard!

Edit a video!

Make a playlist!

Record an audiofic!

Make a gifset!

Create a photo edit!

Create a manip!

Are there any limits on requests?

Nope. Give any ship, character, prompt etc. you’d like to see. You can give multiple options for your gift giver to fulfill (recommended!), just please don’t go too too specific so your gift maker has some leeway to work and can create any kind of gift out of your request.

Some General FAQ:

You do not have to have either a tumblr or an AO3 account to participate! I will create an AO3 collection for the challenge for those who would like to post there and there’s this tumblr blog to have all the works/links to works collected under the same roof, but you can post the gifts wherever and in whichever way you’d like, or I can post them for you on this blog.

There’s no limit on ships, ratings, genre, etc. I’m not limiting content warnings as well, but I will declare (though I do believe none of us are here for this kind of content but just to make sure): this challenge will not promote works that encourage racism, homophobia, misogyny, or bigotry or violence of any kind, and any triggering content should be handled with the appropriate care.

When making a gift, please respect your recipient’s preferences, paying close attention to ratings and dislikes so you don’t accidentally make anything that they don’t want!

truth from my red lips

*cracks knuckles* whew i haven’t done one of these in a hot minute…

so for some reason, today i got looking at times taylor has worn valentino. well, okay, to be specific, karlie was wearing a red valentino suit and so naturally i was like has taylor ever worn red valentino before? and of course, she has

but i’m going to direct your attention elsewhere because in looking at all other examples of taylor wearing valentino i came across this number that she wore for a couture photoshoot that she did for the November 2013 edition of InStyle magazine..

which seemed innocuous enough. but upon glimpsing a runway pic of it —the opening look of the show— things came into full color

well,

there’s red coral on the sleeve of this dress!

and in the end game music video, she’s dancing in front of pieces of red coral while singing about the start of their relationship!

and so i look into things more and i notice that for this in style photo shoot she is wearing not just the starting but also the ending looks of this valentino fw13 show, and just like the starting look, the end look also has red coral on it!

so to summarize, taylor serendipitously wears pieces with red coral on them in her November 2013 InStyle photo spread, and in this way it likely is the last photoshoot she does before being formally introduced to karlie at the November 13th 2013 victoria’s secret fashion show (which was london themed might i add) and therefore, with the end game music video segment, it’s almost as if this scene in london, in incorporating the red coral, is echoing the idea of their first meeting (first look) and how she wants this to be her end game (last look)

and my extras are:

the valentino show itself has a lot of symmetrical gold filigree designs and the backdrop had circular golden discs (hello komh rep tour!! and fitting that end game spills into komh with this same look!)

and pieces from the show also use heavy tweed-like fabrics and eclectic scientific illustrations (hello red room lover suit jacket!)

and a last observation,

it turns out this valentino collection was designed by maria grazia chiuri, you know, the woman who personally designed a certain wedding dress 🙃

so yeah, i finally placed the red coral!!! woohoo!!

I would say happy patch day but man, this was one of the worst, if not of all time, we've had in a long while, lol. Please be patient and kind to all creators, especially food creators, as they deal with this.

I was not minimally impacted like I had hoped, and these updates will probably take me the next few days or rest of the week to get done. Unfortunately this means I can't keep to my schedule so the mods I had planned for release before Cottage Living won't be possible. “He’s going to hate me.”

You huffed, collapsing onto the couch with your face buried into one of the pillows. The cushion beside you dipped, and a hand landed on your back and started rubbing it in small circles. “He’s not going to hate you, it’s impossible to hate you.” Andy encouraged, with a soft pat on your back. Peeking up at him from the pillow, he smiled.

“I would absolutely hate it if my dad started dating someone my age, in fact, I would think it was gross.” Finally you sat up, hands in your lap and head hanging low. One of Andy’s fingers tucked itself under your chin, forcing your head upward, eyes connecting immediately. “I raised him well. He’ll understand it’ll just take some adjustment, but I assure you everything will be fine.” You wanted to believe him, but that was easier said than done. But you put yourself in Jacob’s shoes, and you wouldn’t have liked this situation one bit.

Jacob was freshly eighteen, a freshman in college, he actually attended the same university you did. You were actually only four years older than him, which in the grand scheme of time was miniscule. Not only was your age an issue, but you were already sure Jacob resented you because of the divorce. While you had no part in the divorce situation, you actually met Andy a year after it had been finalized, you never wanted Jacob to think you were trying to replace his mother.

Andy and you met a semester into your first year at law school, he was one of your professors. And that was about a year ago now, you were well into your second year now. The feelings were clearly there from day one, but Andy refused to make a move on you until you had left his class. It made him feel better, since at that point you were no longer one of his students. The two of you had your first date about three months ago, and had been keeping it a secret from anybody and everybody, and this included Jacob.

You had met Jacob before, briefly, when he would come visit his dad on occasion for lunch, but nothing more than a simple ‘hello,’ and you hadn’t seen him since the two of you started dating. As your mind flooded with all the negative possibilities that could happen over the next two hours, you were pulled from your thoughts by a loud ringing noise. It was the doorbell.

A look of dread filled your face, and it was hard for Andy not to notice. As one last peptalk, he cupped your cheeks in his calloused hands, forcing your face closer to his. “Everything is going to be just fine.” Insisting one last time, and punctuating it with a kiss on your lips. His hands fell, and you stood from the sofa, patting and straightening out your dress.

As Andy pulled the door open, you watched his face light up at the site of his son. You knew how much Andy cared for his son, and the immense amount of love he had towards him. It made you desire to have kids with him only to grow, but that was a conversation for another day, you already had enough on your plate. “Hey, bud.” He pulled Jacob in for a hug, before motioning for him to come into his home. Jacob’s eyes landed on you as soon as he stepped past the threshold and into the foyer.

“Hello Jacob I’m (Y/F/N), it’s nice to meet you.” You outstretched your hand, and plastered the biggest smile you could conjure onto your face. “Hey.” He said flatly, shaking your hand limply. Which was an instant shot to your heart. He already hated you and you hadn’t even made it past the introductions. Andy ushered the two of you into the kitchen, and the smell of your cooking filled the room.

“Whatever you’re cooking smells amazing.” Jacob said, taking a seat on one of the bar stools. A compliment, wow. “Well thanks, I appreciate it.” You smiled. Andy and his son talked back and forth for a while at the bar, and you happily sat and listened to them. “Are you in school?” Jacob asked you, out of nowhere. “I am, I’m in law school, actually.” You confessed, instantly starting to pick at the skin around your fingernails.

“That’s how you two met, I’m assuming. I think I’ve seen you in one of dad’s classes before.” You nodded your head, as did Andy. “I know you’re in college, have you decided on a major yet?” You could tell he got asked that question a lot, and you instantly regretted asking him that. But answered it anyway, “Not yet, I’m really interested in Political Science, so I’m taking a few intro classes.” He explained.

“Political Science, really?” That topic excited you, “I actually double majored in Pre-Law and Political Science. Do you have Dr. Taylor this semester?” When you mentioned Dr. Taylor, he perked up immediately. “I do actually, is he any good?” You let out a small laugh, “He is amazing, one of my favorite professors, we stay in contact to this day.” It hadn’t been that long since you were his student, only about two years, but you weren't going to admit that. The two of you actually got into a good conversation about Poli Sci, and he seemed genuinely interested in what you had to say. This made your confidence slowly grow.

Lunch came around and the tension seemed to slowly be lifting, and Jacob wasn’t as shut off with you as you anticipated. He wasn’t overly talkative, but Andy mentioned he had always been that way with new people. After the university talk came to an end, Jacob asked the dreaded question you all knew was coming, “So, are you guys, like, dating, officially?” The answer seemed obvious in the current context, but confirming it to Jacob still gave you anxiety. “Yes, we are.” Andy answered, because all the air seemed to have left your lungs.

He nodded slowly, picking up a piece of food with his fork. “Well, I’m happy for you dad, and you too, (Y/F/N).” It felt like a singular brick had been taken off your shoulders, giving you a small bit of relief, but you knew this wasn’t going to be the end of all this awkwardness. Now that the eight hundred pound elephant has left the room, regular conversation moved on easier. Jacob stayed until around four, he had to meet one of his friends for dinner.

The three of you said your goodbyes, Andy saying bye to his son first, before the sound of his phone ringing pulled him away. This left just you and Jacob in the foyer, and without thinking you began to word vomit. “Listen, I know this is a weird situation to put you in, since you and I are around the same age. And I know there are a lot of other factors in this situation, and I just want to say I’m sorry if this makes you uncomfortable, but I am definitely willing to put in the work to make this transition as easy as possible for all of us.” Jacob just stood there for awhile, not saying anything, making you feel stupid. But then he finally spoke,

“It will definitely be an adjustment, and if I’m being honest, it has nothing to do with your age, I couldn’t care less about that. You’ll keep my dad young and on his toes, so I appreciate that. It’s just gonna take some time for me to get used to seeing my dad with another woman, that’s all.” He confessed with a shrug.

“But for now, all that matters is that you make my dad unbelievably happy and that’s all I can ask for.

You’d met Harry whilst on a trip to Guernsey with friends from university and you’d never really gone home. You were visiting the hometown of one of your flatmates, after they’d boasted about the beautiful sea views that everyone had to see at least once.

And then you met Harry.

To you, Harry was the goofy kid you’d met in one of the hidden beach coves you’d been taken to. He was where you went on your holidays from university, wherever he was. You felt like you’d found a future in Harry, with Harry, on that beach that day.

Harry would fly you out to wherever he was as soon as you had time off from your studies, he’d pay first class train fares for you to come to London and get you the best tickets for a ferry over to Guernsey. Harry’s friends and family had made you feel welcome and loved and wanted, almost as much as Harry did.

Until you tried to surprise him.

Harry knew you were due to finish university soon, but you’d never given him an exact date of when to expect you. You’d given him excuses about moving out and seeing friends now that you had the time, all the while planning on coming down to London to surprise him as soon as you could.

You’d arranged it with Cal, who knew when you were coming. Even some of his friends knew when you were coming down, but you only told them if they promised to keep it a secret from Harry. And, so far, they’d held up their end of the bargain.

You were trudging through the middle of Kings Cross station, battling your way to the car park pick-up where you were expecting to meet your Uber driver. It felt like the day was trying to annoy you. Your train had been delayed before you’d even gotten to the platform, and then you had to wait in the rain since the waiting rooms at the station were closed, someone had taken your seat on the train so you had to argue with them over that, and now your suitcase seemed to slip into every single minute crack in the floor.

Once you slid your way into the back of the Uber, you let out a deep breath. The next person you saw would be Harry. You would see Harry and Harry would see you and all of the palaver you had been through would be worth it because, as much as the two of you tried, it had been weeks since you’d seen each other. FaceTime calls seemed to be getting less and less, too, but you chose to chalk that up to an over-critical, overactive mind.

You zoned out as you were whisked through the dark streets of London. A long final semester followed by a long day of travelling mixed with a dash of (possibly imagined) relationship doubt had started to take its toll on you. You wanted nothing more than a long, hot shower and to curl up into bed in Harry’s arms and sleep for a week or two.

Even though Cal had already told you he’d be out for the night, you sent him a text when you arrived at the apartment building, just so someone would know you’d made it into London safely.

You couldn’t help but tap your foot and fiddle with anything that was in reaching distance once you’d made it into the lift. The pent up anxiety and exhaustion mixing together was a strange feeling in of itself. You counted the floors and the lift rose, not taking your eye off of the moving counter until it drew to a slow stop, the doors sliding open in front of your face.

You walked down the hall to Harry’s flat, letting yourself in with the key he’d had cut for you as an anniversary present. You left your stuff quietly by the door, sneaking through the flat in the direction of Harry’s room.

You could hear noises coming from in his room, but you presumed he was editing a video or filming something for either his second channel or one of the Sidemen channels. You opened the door slowly, hoping not to make too much noise as you snuck into his room.

You turned around, expecting to see Harry lounging on his bed or hunched over his computer. You didn’t expect to see him with his tongue down another girl’s throat.

“What the fuck?”, the girl screeched when she moved her head and saw you standing there, eyes wide and already flooding with tears. “Who the fuck are you?”, she asked you accusingly.

Harry pulled his face out of the girl’s neck, expecting to see Cal or an intruder. “Y/N...”, he trailed off quietly. “It’s not what it looks like”, he started, “I didn’t realise - you said - you never told me-”, Harry stumbled, trying to stand up.

“It’s not what it looks like!? It looks like you’re about to fuck some other girl, Harry”, you all but shouted at him, shocking both him and the girl still awkwardly in his bed. “I didn’t tell you because I wanted to surprise you, because I haven’t seen you in weeks”, you told him. By this point, the tears that were building up had begun to spill over, slowly rolling down your cheeks.

“I-”, Harry started, mouth hanging open as he tried to find the words to say. “I think you should go”, he said quietly, turning to face the girl who was trying to awkwardly straighten out her clothes without making too much of a commotion.

She nodded, standing up and gathering her things before slipping out of the room. She mumbled a soft ‘sorry’ to you as she walked past, causing you to scoff and glare at Harry.

“Are you going to try and explain, or are you going to stand there looking like a fish out of water?”, you asked him accusingly. Harry’s face darkened.

“Explain? What do you want me to tell you? You’ve barely spoken to me the past few months, and when I’ve seen you you’ve been ‘too tired’ to do anything. You don’t want to spend time with me anymore, Y/N!”, Harry shouted at you.

“Harry, you’ve known since we met that I’m at university. I was juggling a long distance relationship, a part-time job that was asking too much of me, job hunting for once I graduate and writing my final year dissertation. What did you want me to do? I can’t be in two places at once, Harry!”, you shouted, moving your arms around in anger.

“You made me feel like shit, Y/N. Like you don’t fucking love me!”, Harry hurled at you accusingly, like this was somehow your fault. “I always made time for you, whether I was at home or here or somewhere else”.

“Are you forgetting how many days I sat here in the flat on my own or with just Cal because you were at shoots? I never said a fucking word about it, because I knew I’d signed up to that when I fell in love with you. You think walking into the room and seeing you all over some other girl made me feel loved? Made me feel appreciated?”, you yelled, ignoring how cool your tears felt on your burning skin.

“This isn’t my fault. Y/N!”, Harry yelled, storming over to you. You flinched slightly, making Harry stop short. “What? You - You think I’d hurt you?”, he asked quietly, recoiling into himself.

“Well, you clearly have no fucking problem hurting me!”, you snapped, wrapping your arms tightly around your body.

“I’d never hurt you, Y/N”, Harry murmured into the silence of the room.

“Really? Then why the fuck did I walk in here to see you with your tongue down someone else’s neck, Harry. That’s pretty fucking hurtful, if you ask me. And then you have the fucking gall to tell me it’s not your fault? Nobody made you bring her here, nobody made you cheat on me!”, you spat.

“It’s not been going on that long. Now that you’ve finished uni you can come down here and we can work on us again, right?”, Harry asked, awkwardly reaching out to you.

You took a step back, making sure he couldn’t reach you. Anger swirled inside of you, demanding to bubble up and lash out at Harry, and at this point to were too tired to even attempt to rein it in. “Oh yeah, sure”, you snarled. “I’ll just uproot my life and move down to London to be with a man who’d rather cheat on me than ask if everything’s okay between us”. You looked at Harry, waiting for him to say something, but he kept his mouth shut, looking around awkwardly. “Is you telling me it’s not being going on for long supposed to make me feel better? Woohoo, you’ve only been cheating on me for a month or two, not our entire relationship. No, Harry. We’re over. Done. You can’t come back from this”, you told him bluntly.

You turned around to leave his bedroom, storming down into the living room, coming face to face with Cal. “What’s going on? The neighbours called to ask if everything was okay because they heard yelling, you weren’t answering your phone so I came over”, Cal said softly, taking in the tears running down your face and neck.

Harry scoffed behind you. “And I’m the cheat, yeah?”, he snarked. Cal’s eyes widened before his face filled with fury. You put your hand on his chest.

“Can you call Freya and Josh to come pick me up? From the kitchen? Please?”, you asked, instructed him, pointing him over to the kitchen. He nodded, glowering eyes not leaving Harry until they had to.

“I wouldn’t dare cheat on you”, you snapped at Harry. “Every time you left me here to go film, I had no one to talk to but Cal. If me having the audacity to not sit in silence on my own for hours on end when I come and see my boyfriend makes me the unfaithful one here, then sue me. But last time I checked, the only person I’ve gotten into bed with in the last 18 months is you. You can’t tell me the same thing”, your voice raised as you spoke, your words all but nailing Harry to the wall.

Cal came over slowly, “They’re on their way over now”, he told you.

You marched back up to Harry’s room, collecting up everything that belonged to you in your arms. “What are you doing?”, Harry asked you from the door, voice sounding more fit for an innocent 5 year old.

“Getting my stuff”, you replied bluntly.

“Why?”.

“What about this situation makes you think I ever want to see you again, Harry? I could never trust you, ever again. You’ve ruined us. What about ‘we’re over’ doesn't make sense to you?”, you asked him incredulously, slipping past him to walk back downstairs and put your stuff into a bag.

“But - We can fix it, right?”, he asked, voice small.

“You blamed me, Harry! You said it wasn’t your fault! You think I don’t already feel bad enough? I know things have been rough and I know I’ve been distant and God, I feel like shit about it. I’m exhausted, Harry. I’m trying my best and clearly that’s not good enough for you, but don’t you dare go blaming me for that girl being in your bed. That one is all on you”, you told him sternly.

A knock on the door interrupted whatever Harry was going to try and say. Cal walked over, letting Josh and Freya into the apartment. “Y/N?”, Freya asked softly from the entryway. You turned away from Harry, walking over to Freya and into her arms.

For the first time that night, you let yourself cry. Heaving sobs were released into Freya’s chest and she held on to you, held you together. Over yours and Freya’s shoulders, Josh glared at Harry. A glare filled with anger and disappointment that made Harry shrink into himself even more.

“Come on, you need something to eat and drink and some sleep, you look shattered”, Josh told you. As Freya ushered you out of the door and to the lift, Cal handed Josh your bag and coat and pointed out your suitcase to him.

“Tell her I’ll speak to her in a bit, yeah?”, he asked Josh, who only nodded and showed himself out of the apartment, following you and Freya to the lift.

Cal took one look at Harry, his dishevelled appearance and the lost look in his eye, scoffed, and picked up his phone. “What do I do?”, Harry asked as Cal started to walk away.

“I’m not gonna start giving you advice, Bog. You’re one of my best mates but, man, you fucked up. Y/N is good, she was good for you. She would have moved heaven and earth for you if you needed her to, would have done anything you asked without a second thought. The one time in the 18 months you’ve been together she needed to be selfish, you were too pathetic to take it on the chin and you went and pulled someone else into your bed”, he told Harry.

“You like her, don’t you?”, Harry accused, no heat behind his words but the attempt was there.

“Of course I do, I have since the day I met her. But she was your girlfriend, I was just the accommodating best friend and flat mate who kept her company and bought her pizza when you abandoned her for days at a time for shoots”.

“I’ve really fucked up”, Harry whispered. Cal made a snarky noise in agreement, before turning his back and walking off to his room before he did or said something to Harry that he would regret in the long run.

At Freya and Josh’s, you’d showered and changed into sweats and a hoodie and were wrapped up in a blanket between the two of them on the couch as you all but cried into a bowl of Chinese food.

“I don’t want to lose of all you guys”, you whimpered quietly.

“You won’t, you silly goose”, Freya tutted. “You really think me, Gee and Talia would let you get away that easily. Or Josh and the other guys? No way. Sure, things are gonna change a bit, but just because...”, she trailed off, not wanting to even say Harry’s name. “Just because circumstances change, doesn’t mean we don’t love you, Y/N”, she told you, reaching over to squeeze your hand.

You had a long road ahead, there was no doubt about that. But with the friends you’d made over the last 18 months, you knew that you would never be taking that road alone. Freya was right, you couldn’t leave her, Gee and Talia now, you’d become too close. The boys were like family as well, albeit it a very dysfunctional family.

But, like all families, you’d find a way to make it work.

insane time travel glitch?

throwing this post into the simblr void - i’m getting this wild glitch lately where every time i enter CAS, my game literally goes back in time by one day or more. all skills/job progress/pregnancy stages/relationships revert too. the only thing that doesn’t revert are babies who were born during the missing timeframe.

to explain in more detail, here’s what exactly happened in my occult baby challenge save when i noticed the glitch:

1) i age up my twin werewolf babies to toddlers. they have brown hair and light green eyes like their mom.

2) i go into CAS to change their hair

3) i notice they’re somehow still babies?

4) i exit CAS and notice their cribs are regular basgame instead of the werewolf cribs they spawned after being born.

5) i go “huh that’s weird” and age them up again. they now have blond hair and black eyes.

6) after one sim day, i notice it’s still summer, despite fall starting the day before. i also notice their mom isn’t related to them in their sim profiles on the relationship screen.

7) ???

8) out of curiosity, i check mc pregnancy (sim mom was pregnant before this glitch happened) and sure enough, she was somehow pregnant with those same twins living in my house.

9) the game reverted back THREE DAYS and now i have changelings i guess.

anyway, i learned it was probably a script mod issue, so i removed my script mods sub folder, repaired my game on origin, and removed my localthumbcache file. this appeared to have fixed the glitch, so i slowly added script mods back in and checked CAS as i went. so far so good! i was able to age up the original toddlers and edit them in CAS without any fae deals—until i aged up the third baby and had her enter CAS. same time traveling issue, sans the changeling black-eyed toddlers. somehow the current baby i had stayed related to my sim.

i wondered if i could circumvent this issue by having the other girl toddler enter CAS instead, which somehow worked. i am now incredibly confused and live in fear of opening my legacy challenge, lmao.

has anyone else gotten this same glitch and resolved it? if so, how? the main script mods i use are mc command center, UI cheats, wonderful/wicked whims, talents/weaknesses, woohoo wellness, and a bunch of littlesam mods. i’d prefer to keep them if possible, but i would also love to save my overpriced beta game. 🙏

⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped? 

Huh. Not many, actually, which surprises me. And if I’m talking only snzfic and I don’t include my vanilla stuff, then no, I haven't scrapped anything at all. It’s either a WIP or I’ve completed it, or it’s still 100% in my head. But this is probably just due to my writing ‘method’, such as it is – I watch my soap opera play out in my head, and sometimes I decide to make a fic out of one of its scenes. Sometimes that scene may be literally many years old, but for whatever reason – and the reasons vary – I didn't write it at the time. Sometimes the scene happened very recently. But if I decide that a scene/event/other needs to leave my head and become as physical a thing as I can make it, turns out that I...usually get it done.     I have so many more headscenes than fics (SO many more) that when I first read this question, I expected to answer along the lines of “probably thousands”. Shows what I know, lol. 

The downside to this answer is “most of my scenes stay in my head, and that’s why I haven’t scrapped a bunch of stuff – they never existed”. Sigh. 

🎶 Do you listen to music while you write? What song have you been playing on loop lately? 

I play a lot of music, but if I’m writing, it needs to be something that I’m not going to exit the writing brain to and start focusing on instead. It has to be something that can’t overrule The Process, such as it is. So a lot of instrumentals make the “while I’m writing” cut, and I prefer soundscape sort of things to melodies I know well – again, distraction reasons.  

I often edit/reread with music on, though. I think sometimes getting distracted mid-edit and then refocusing actually helps me to pick up mistakes.     I don’t have any particular song on loop, as such, at the moment, so I’ll go with what I've got on right now: Accelerator by Pain of Salvation 

🍷 Do you drink and write? 

Certainly do. Not every time, but hell yes, a glass of wine or two absolutely can help my process, and will again. I edit at least mostly sober, though. And I post very, very sober. 

💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart? 

Oh, plenty. Most of my characters have, at one point (minimum) or another, gone through Some Major Shit. Doesn't feature so much in snzfics, though, so...not so much here. My horn is a romantic. Or something like that. 😂 

✅ What's something that appears in your fics over and over and over again, even if you don't mean to? 

The same damn phrase/word I used literally a paragraph ago? 🙃 (okay, no, I know that’s not the point of this question but it is my commonest error and it sprang to mind, so...)     There is a lot of running fingers through hair, either their own or others. Wryness, both in expression and speech, and I wish there were more ways to say so. Couches and beds. Rain, hahaha can’t think why, weird huh, who can say. Facial touch. 

Coming together after an absence, reunitings. Get-togethers and break-ups. And first times, first times, first times. 

My characters sneeze a lot in vanilla fics, too. I mean, I’m not putting in spellings or anything, but, uh, yeah. Pretty regular occurrence. I'm an inveterate, uh...self-servicer.

Pleasant Household: Week 1

Things were off to a not-so-pleasant start, with Lilith autonomously slapping Angela.

Daniel and Mary-Sue, on the other hand seemed to be doing quite well. Apparently their relationship is much higher in the clean template version of Pleasantview, leading to this cute moment happening autonomously.

I actually had to intervene and separate these two, because Lilith would not stop slapping her sister.

Apparently, if Sims start work at the same time, they’ll share the carpool, even if they’re in different career tracks. I don’t think we’ll ever run out of things to discover about the Sims 2!

I’m starting to wonder if the scripted events do still work despite, and I’m just not getting notifications for them (Hood Checker supposedly breaks the scripted events). This is THE Chance Card. The one you always get when starting the Pleasant household, and is rigged so that both options have a negative outcome. I don’t know for sure if it was rigged in this particular instance, since I didn’t test both options.

Picked the “Edit” option, and Mary-Sue got demoted.

It’s always kinda freaky when Sims look directly at the screen.

“Why did you do this to me, Watcher?”

I find it hilarious that Angela was the one to steal the family recipe.

Angela brought her boyfriend Dustin home with her.

Meanwhile, Daniel brought home Benjamin Kimbrel.

Mary-Sue and Daniel continue to be sweet couple (too bad Daniel’s a cheater).

Angela rolled a want to become friends with Dustin’s younger brother, Beau. How sweet! I then proceeded to forget about that friendship for the rest of the Sim-week.

Daniel’s sister, Jennifer Burb, invited him downtown. I decided to bring along the entire household, while Jennifer brought her husband, John, effectively making this a Pleasant-Burb family outing (minus Jennifer’s daughter, Lucy).

The bowing continues to spread. And, while I don’t have any pictures, chest pounding has also begun to spread, despite nobody having visited Three Lakes. I think someone may have brought local home with them from school or work during a previous household’s round.

Girls please, you are in public!

At least Lilith is capable of being civil with one member of this household.

It genuinely surprised me that Mary-Sue rolled a want to quit her job. It’s pretty ironic, given that she’s supposed to be a workaholic. I never actually got around to having her quit.

Lilith got along pretty well with Arcadia Sims here. Somehow, this doesn’t surprise me.

Since teens hardly ever roll wants to do their homework (the closest I’ve gotten to in this uberhood is Lilith rolling the want ask for homework help), I’ll make them do homework if they roll a want to go to college or get a job. Lilith rolled the “Go to College” want quite a bit this week, so she managed to bring her grade up to an A. Angela on the other hand hardly ever rolled such wants, so she has a C+ grade and three days worth of homework lying around.

While slow dancing with her husband, Mary-Sue discovered her passion for Music & Dance.

Angela rolled a want to Obtain a Pet, so I thought I’d try adopting a stray. Alas, just as I managed to get Angela’s relationship with Gracie high enough to adopt her, Gracie left. Angela hasn’t seen her since.

Lilith snuck out with Alexander Goth, of all people. While she didn’t get caught or anything, she was still so exhausted, that I just had her stay home and sleep. Her homework was unfinished, so she was gonna drop a letter grade anyway.

I think we all knew the affair with Kaylynn Langerak was gonna happpen eventually.

Lilith here is on the phone with her grandpa, Herb Oldie. For some reason, nobody in this household knows Coral Oldie. Despite her being Mary-Sue’s mother.

Mary-Sue returned home from work with Ramir Patel and a promotion bonus.

This is one of two times Angela actually did her homework this week.

Daniel rolled wants to Have Woohoo With 3 Sims, Make Out With 3 Sims, and Fall In Love With 3 Sims. So I sent him to the gym to find a potential second mistress. Plus, this shot does a pretty good job of showing how beautiful fall looks in this game!

Daniel didn’t have much luck with Regan Capp.

He took a brief break from womanizing to catch up with his brother-in-law for a bit.

Feeling hungry and having no luck at the gym, I sent Daniel over to the park instead. He went from failed attempts at flirting, to failed attempts at cooking.

A good witch showed up, resulting in this absolutely gorgeous shot!!

Daniel finally has some luck with Marylena Hamilton.

Back at home, we see the return of Gordon Knott.

Angela decided to play her handheld game in the middle of swimming, resulting in what I like to call the “Jesus Glitch”.

Mary-Sue gets another promotion.

I honestly can’t remember why I sent Lilith to the store (I think it was to buy a handheld game), but she ended up finding her calling in Sports while Tina Traveller autonomously joined her for a round of basketball.

Angela catches up with Arcadia for a bit, while another evil witch, Katy Slew, gets randomly generated.

Tried inviting over the Burb family and Alexander so he could meet Lucy. With Gordon still here as well, there is quite a full house.

Angela brought home Opal Raymond. The want to Be Friends With Opal, and later Be Best Friends With Opal, would not leave until they were fulfilled.

Mary-Sue was on a roll, snagging her third promotion this week!

Arthob was my second failed attempt at adopting a stray.

It was Daniel’s birthday, and I wanted Mary-Sue to be there for it, but she doesn’t get off work until 5, leaving only one hour for him to age up via cake before the game forces him to age up. So I decided to let her take the day off. Daniel however still got sent to work on his birthday.

Thanks to actually doing her homework, Lilith finally started doing well in school.

The suit isn’t a bad look per say, but it’s not very... Daniel.

I figured Daniel’s age up was a good opportunity to get everyone warmer looking clothes for the upcoming winter (not for Mary-Sue though, because her birthday was only two days after Daniel’s).

Clothes shopping took so long, that poor Lilith was too exhausted to even make it inside the house before passing out.

For some bizarre and unknown reason, Daniel got out of bed in the middle of the night, and immediately got back into bed. 

Lilith has been doing so well in school, she’s managed to get a scholarship if she ends up going to college!

Meet Dakota. I gave up on trying to adopt a stray, and had Angela call the pet adoption center.

Daniel got along really well with the Dateable Slob (that’s what that NPC type is actually called btw), Linda Lind, with whom he had two bolts of chemistry. So far, it hasn’t gotten any further than flirting.

Lucy was not very happy to see her uncle flirting with someone behind her aunt’s back.

“Turns out I’m you boss’s cousin, and I’m phoning in a favor he owes me. Next time you go to work Daniel, you’ll be getting a promotion.”

Really not surprised that Mary-Sue wants the dog to get a job.

Because of the way time works when visiting community lots, if a Sim’s energy is maxed out in the middle of the night, I like to send them to community lots until they’re tired enough to sleep the rest of the night. Daniel is hanging out here until it’s no longer considered too early to call Sims. Good thing SimNation doesn’t have laws against loitering.

He autonomously tried to eat someone else’s food. I didn’t even know this was possible.

Now that it’s no longer the middle of the night, Daniel was able to call Marylena to ask her out on a date.

Opps. Looks like he was being a little too forward there.

Now she’s interested again.

I specifically chose that location because I knew they’d eventually want to eat at a restaurant. Spaghetti and mac ‘n cheese seem like odd brunch choices.

Haha, whoops. Looks like I’ve been forgetting to have them pay their bills.

Remind me to buy Dirk some new outerwear during the next round.

Haven’t had the twins interact with their boyfriends much, so it seemed like a pretty good idea to invite them over to hang out.

Mary-Sue’s on a birthday phone call with her dad. This was mostly to get their relationship up enough that he’d show up to her party. I’m not the best at maintaining Sim relationships.

Linda sure was telling the truth about that promotion!! And it came with a hefty bonus!!

Mary-Sue’s birthday. I’m leaving her outfit for now, because it’s the last day in the round. But next round, I’ll take her clothes shopping.

Lilith pranked Alexander with a water balloon, then, completely autonomously, Alexander retaliated! These two have such an unlikely friendship. I like to think Lilith brings out a more rebellious side in Alexander.

If you thought Lilith was turning into the good twin, you thought wrong. She still antagonizes Angela of her own accord.

These two end the week with Lilith getting hissed at by Kobe for trying to pet her. Meanwhile Angela was able to introduce herself by picking Kobe up and tossing her in the air. All of this was without any instruction from me. I guess Kobe just like Angela better.
