Random question bc I really want to see what people’s thoughts are - when do you think rooks rest will happen in the show? I’ve resigned myself to the fact that it’s probably next season but I’m at least hoping it’s near the end... My gut says they’ll tackle blood and cheese first but given the divergence to the book I’m really not sure if they’ll stick to that timeline
Basically I’m emotional about the fact that Eve likely will only be there one more season and GOD they better give her some more Emmy worthy moments. @HBO please give our queen the screen time she deserves
I've spoken about this a little before. I do wonder how they're going to structure it all. I agree with you in that Rook's Rest is likely to happen in the next series but for me, I feel like it just has to be towards the end. Ideally, for me, it would be the big climax of Episode 09, and then we get Episode 10 as the aftermath and the preparation to assault King's Landing and a vague introduction of the Dragonseeds as a possibility before that all gets kicked off in Season 03.
And I don't just say that for Emmy-worthy moments (although COME ON) but just because Rook's Rest is one of the events in the book, as far as I understand, that has massive consequences for both sides. On the Greens: they had a heck-load of their soldiers burned by Meleys, but more importantly, they crippled Sunfyre, Aegon is damaged permanently and I believe Aemond is installed by Criston etc in some sort of way as regent?? They also take Meleys's head back and terrify the city till Alicent has to bar the gates or something? So that's direct consequences. They might have taken Rook's Rest, but it wasn't without dominos falling. And on the Blacks: we've got Corlys's entire reaction and showing how much his loyalty was hand in hand with his wife's, and how much it's reliant on his grandchildren. He's got to lose his crap and then be brought back on board by Jace. We've got Daemon and Rhaenyra's sons that need to be sent off for fostering, the manoeuvring of the other kids etc to keep them safe*. The Dragonseeds and simply just setting up Season 03 stuff. And that's just the Blacks.
One thing I'm hoping they won't do... is try and shove the Battle of the Gullet in Season 02. I think that would be a mistake. But who knows. They could just be wanting to finish each season with a kid dying. But I'd rather we leave the last shot being something like the Velaryon escort of Viserys and Aegon... and then the looming presence of the Stepstone warships ready to intercept. Have that as a cliffhanger and then go straight into it next season.
