Julian Bashir walks a very fine, maddening line between “self-loathing imposter syndrome who knows almost everyone who speaks to him for more than a minute finds him insufferable” and “incredibly self assured and annoyingly arrogant to the point of a minor god complex”.

He knows he’s attractive, he thinks he’s charming as all hell, he knows he’s the smartest person in the room (while also being acutely aware he’s going to put his foot in his mouth any second now), and he just swings wildly between “I don’t deserve anything I have, none of this is mine, my life is not my own, I am a monster” and “HELL YEAH LOOK HOW COOL AND SMART I AM GUYS ARE YOU LOOKING ARE YOU LOOKING”.

And then there’s episodes that reveal that underneath that annoying arrogance, at the very core of who he is, he really, really just wants to help people, and if he fucks that up he WILL take it personally and hold himself responsible even if there’s no way he could have known and like. Can you imagine what his first patient death was like for him. Can you imagine what a fucking nightmare his brain must be 24/7.

He is somehow as inherently self assured as he is in need of constant validation for his ego because you can SEE him break a little when that ego fails him, even a little, and it’s just.

He’s very fun to write. I hate him. (I love him so much, but oh my god.)

The thing about the "you said, trust me" "and you did" in the bullet catch is this: Aziraphale believes in Crowley. Aziraphale believes so surely and completely in Crowley that he stands in the fire and knows Crowley won't hurt Job's kids, believes in him so much that he'll stand in front of a gun because he knows that when he says "shoot past my ear" that Crowley won't miss. He's so sure Crowley won't hurt him, even as Crowley is unsure himself, even as his hands shake.

i feel like this is a topic that needs more than just a tumblr post to fully expand on but. i think that in modern-day christian culture we place WAY too much emphasis on Feeling and Emotion . and i think that this attitude is part of the reason why the most common struggle you hear is "God isn't speaking to me/I can't hear God". feels like the standard set is that you're constantly feeling a Supernatural presence and it's Big and Obvious and it Shows and you can't contain it... when that's just not it. God can be quiet. God can nudge. God's voice is contained in the Bible that you hold between your hands. If you're not "hearing Him" then maybe your expectation of what hearing Him is is flawed.

Ok we have to talk about s2 moments that make me love Aziraphale even more

- pretending to be a journalist and just like. being as adorable and pure and kind of dumb as Muriel pretending to be a police officer

- going against Heaven to protect Job's children! He questioned Heaven twice, then tried to protect them from Crowley and then actually lied to the archangels to save them. HE WAS WILLING TO FALL FOR IT

- him actually grieving and hugging that jar with the tumour after the ressurectionist told him it was from a seven year old

- "you don't seem his type at all" *eyebrow raise*

- giving away his books! his books!!!!! to help Maggie and Nina

- "Smitten, I believe" *looks smittenly at Crowley*

- "You're being silly!" *adorably soft and tender*

- "well perhaps you could tell me...while we dance" AND HIS HAPPY FACE AND GRABBING CROWLEY BY THE HAND TO DANCE

- "You came to me. I said I would protect you and I will" he is an Angel of his word and even if he doesn't like Gabriel he will protect him! bc he promised it! we support a responsible, empathetic and caring being

- being shocked and putting a hand on Crowley's shoulder when they see Gabriel and Beelzebub together like "oh my, are you seeing what I'm seeing"

- THE SOFT LOOK TO CROWLEY - I MEAN I can't deal with it I can't watch this scene without tearing up (after Gabriel and Beelzebub vanish)

Fine, I'm not going to push it if you don't have any good reasons to believe something. But you shouldn't be surprised that I'm going to reject your assertion without any good evidence to support it.

I have a book that says there's a great cosmic turtle out there, which carries four elephants (there used to be five of them) on its back who support on their shoulders a giant flat world full of magic. It's true because I have a book that says it's true. This reasoning is exactly as sound as "god is real because the bible says so."

"You can only claim skepticism so far," is one of the sillier things I've seen lately. Your thought-stopping ideology tells you that skepticism is wrong and bad, to just have faith that something is true despite a lack of any good evidence. It stops you from questioning why you reject other (equally poorly supported) books that say other gods are real, and encourages you to engage in special pleading for your particular version of god on top of the circular reasoning demonstrated above.

I'm not arguing for argument's sake; you made a truth claim and I asked for evidence. If any god is real I'd like to know, but you decided either that I'm not worthy of the truth that you possess, or that exposing yourself to the possibility you might be wrong is too dear a cost to pay for attempting to save me from damnation.

I argue to bring myself closer to any truth that I might have access to. I argue because I think people should have the self respect to examine their beliefs, and to reject any belief that can't be demonstrated to be true. I don't want to believe a lie, no matter how comforting it might be.

everybody/npcs being obsessed with dorian and callin him good looking and stuff, he gets all bashful and orym silently smiles.

orym talking to dorian with such a soft voice when speaking of his opal experience. “i know that was a nightmare for you…” UGHH.

laudna suggests they all have funerals for each other. to say what they need to say. robbie and liam sharing a glance???

whenever dorian interacts with his dragon horse, orym always looks so admiringly at dorian.

the way orym remembered how dorian vowed to not abandon the big task in front of his father, and then repeating that they all are okay with taking on the weight- WHILE GLANCING TOWARDS DORIAN, who nods shortly after.

AGH dorian charming chetney!!! the sillies!!!!

just wanna mention how fucking amazing dorian was playing that music for all of the military/war camps. it shows his character so much. and everyone, including liam, was SOOO into it. the little things robbie chooses to make dorian do, because “there’s no other choice”. matt describing how dorian’s presence just uplifts the entire encampment….

dorian laughing when coming back from his small trip, all jolly and happy, positive about him and his friends and the journey ahead. orym making a surprised but ultimately happy face when dorian arrives.

”is this goodbye?” “no this is a go get em.” BADASS.

not orym’s family members recognizing and greeting dorian immediately. holy shit. sick. unwell. yelling. screaming.

braius dragging dorian away to have a secret conversation with him about the group HAHAHA

DORIAN GETTING JEALOUS? AGAIN, WHEN BRAIUS WANTS TO FUCK ORYM???? dorian also standing up for orym “he is the best of us”…

so much is going on at the end of this episode. so much. this is going to be so chaotic, and i’m here for it. but also here for dorian storm<3 and what madness he’s going to bring to the upcoming episode of meeting the mighty nein!
