It is mandatory to wear a mask outside in France as the coronavirus lockdown restrictions ease up. But that doesn't mean it's a loophole for the so-called burqa ban. The French Interior Ministry confirmed recently that women covering their faces for religious reasons will still be penalized during the COVID-19 pandemic. Host Marco Werman speaks with Rim-Sarah Alouane, a law researcher in Toulouse.Â

Burqa Bans, Are They Really About Security?
Claims of security abound, but the violation of individual rights seems apparent. #BurkaBan #BurqaBan
(IT) – The Netherlands parliament recently banned facial coverings (including burqas and niqabs) in some public place. But isn’t such a ban a direct attack on Muslims and their religious freedom?
That depends on which side you talk to. As one German news outlet puts it: “Proponents of the law argue it was necessary for security and to ensure effective communication in public. Critics say the law…

#girlsviewsonthenews-Should The Burka Be Banned in Britain?
Earlier this month CNN reported that the European rights court ruled in favor of French burqa ban. In France the law says nobody can wear clothing that conceals the face in public. The penalty for doing so can be a 150 -euro fine (£120). A French Muslim women didn't agree with this new law, she argued that the ban violated her freedom of religon and expression and brought her case to the European Court of Human Rights but the ECHR upheld the French burka ban.
The court ruled that the ban "was not expressly based on the religious connotation of clothing in question but solely on the fat that it concealed the face.Last year a You Gov poll found that 61% of Brits still want a ban on burkas. Should the Burka be banned in Britain? We asked Fathima,  Sowda and Sumeyah for their views on the news.
"The burka is more of a cultural thing, it is not religious. I think banning the burka in Britain would be extreme. But I understand that if a person commits a crime you need to see their faces and if a woman is wearing a burka and commits a crime you can’t see her face. However, I still think banning British Muslim women from wearing the burka in Britain is extreme." Fathima, 12, Tower Hamlets
"I disagree with banning Muslim women from wearing the Burka because wearing a burka is a personal choice. Women should be able to wear what they want. You can’t tell someone to wear blue everyday if they don’t like it. Women should have the right to wear what they want." Sowda, 14, Tower Hamlets
"Even as a Muslim I feel uncomfortable talking to a woman wearing a burkas but the burka is a more of a cultural thing than religious . There are people who want the Burka banned in Britain and I can see where people are coming from but I still think banning women from wearing it is a bit too extreme." Sumeyah, 12 Tower Hamlets
