#building a movement

You know that Chris Fleming line that goes "Call yourself a community organizer even though you're not on speaking terms with your roommates"?
I honestly think every leftist who talks about the "revolution" like Christians talk about the rapture needs to spend a year trying to organize their workplace. Anyone who sincerely talks about building a movement so vast and all-encompassing that it overwhelms all existing power structures needs the dose of humility that comes with realizing they can't even build a movement to get people paid better at a badly run AMC Theaters where everyone already hates the manager.
#method speaks#union stuff#politics#i guess#best case scenario in this plan we get some successful union drives#worst case people realize that movement building is hard#and also explicitly mentioning socialism is counterproductive#mostly i'm just venting#it's only april how is election discourse this unhinged already?

It is extremely disturbing how many posts I see claiming that Roe v. Wade was overturned on Biden's watch and blaming him and the Democratic Party for it. It's disturbing on a number of levels.
First, it was Trump and Bush-appointed justices who handed down the Dobbs decision. This is a flagrant example of blaming Democrats for things Republicans did, and not coincidentally is one of the the most widely felt differences between the two parties. As a result, it's usually the first example Democrats and their allies point to; this misappropriation suggests a deliberate attempt to undercut that fact.
Secondly, and related to the first point, it obfuscates who the real enemy is, and I am comfortable using word "enemy" to describe the Republican Party because of the policies they advocate and enact. The truth is that states controlled by the Republican Party were where the effects of Dobbs are most severely felt, while states controlled by the Democratic Party are passing laws to protect abortion. It is important to know which party opposes abortion and which party supports it. If the Republicans gain control of the House, Senate, and White House, they will pass a national abortion ban, as they have done at the state level in several places.
Thirdly, blaming Biden for Dobbs demonstrates a very concerning lack of understanding of how the government functions. The judiciary is its own branch of government; judges are appointed by the president and confirmed by the senate. It doesn't matter who is president when a decision is handed down, it matters who was president when the justices were appointed. People sometimes react to this by moving the goalposts and claiming the real issue was a failure by Democrats to "codify" Roe v. Wade. I am not sure what "codify" means in this context, and I'm not sure they are either. One thing it does not mean is that congress can pass a law saying "abortion is legal forever." Republicans could easily repeal such a law and it the federal government cannot necessarily prevent states from restricting abortion at the state level. Roe v. Wade was a ruling stating that the constitution guaranteed a right to privacy, which included the right to have an abortion. This prevented abortion restrictions in a way federal law cannot. That doesn't mean passing federal law protecting abortion is a bad idea, but it isn't a foolproof protection. It's fair to argue that the Democratic Party and the left of center generally were complacent about abortion. The form of this complacency was not taking the courts seriously, while the right spent fifty years openly filling the courts with anti-abortion judges.
The last thing that worries me is that this is popping up phrased almost the exact same way all over the place. I am afraid that it is not merely incompetence, but intentional misinformation, that is then repeated by the incompetent who believe it.
I know some will probably dismiss this post as being from a "vote harder" liberal Biden supporter, but whatever your feelings about Biden, the Democratic Party, or the democratic process in the U.S., you should care about the truth. The truth is that Roe v. Wade was overturned by Republican-appointed judges and abortion bans are being enacted by Republican elected officials, and Joe Biden opposes these things. You can do with that information whatever you wish, but you denying it is dishonest.
#you can't build a leftist movement on dishonesty#i might have to mute this one too but i needed to say it

Since Peri has problems with flight does irep also have them or is he fine
Irep's a talented flyer actually! While Peri's wings feels heavy for him to use, Irep's are light as a feather. He's an expert at navigating the air, and can outdo even a Pixie in flight!!
This has made him all sorts of popular and unpopular among jock-like fairies.
Bitties Series: [Start] > [Previous] > [Next]
#fairly oddparents#fop#fop a new wish#fop irep#irep#asks#itty bitties fop au#it certainly helps that irep studied aerodynamics when building all his lil machineries and weapons as a baby#he's really good at controlling his wing span and movement to increase drag and speed!#this anti fairy can fly backwards even!! that's one of the most difficult moves a pixie can do!!#irep was both popular and unpopular during p.e in school#everybody wants him on their team for Snip the Tail#but he's. the WORST teammate to have. that man hogs glory AND will sacrifice his own mates to win#so he's usually either omitted entirely or has to be nerf'd#honestly sports is one of the very few things irep can excel at#as its also the 1 thing peri sucks absolute ass at haha#although somehow irep's never able to maintain popularity over it. everyone always gushes at peri when he manages 1 score in#but never when irep carries his team#haha funny how that works

martin short is a legend!!! his performance in episode 2 of s4 is an emmy tape!!!!! he was brilliant!!and the script for this season is amazing!!! they separated the suspects into two episodes, which I found very interesting!! cuz they didn't interact at all and we can't exclude anyone who has appeared so far…. (SPOILERS IN THE TAGS)
#jan saying that a killer only hides a body if he doesn't want to alert the real target left me like this 👀👀#I think the target was Charles! cuz the person who killed sazz didn't clean her house so they don't know that it was full of clues#so i think 1) sazz noticed some strange movement 2) she was investigating 3) and then she died instead of charles#thinking about the clues#she lives in L.A. so the strange movement could have been noticed there (the stuff in the movie) but how did it lead to arconia?#are there two mysteries? maybe what Sazz was investigating had nothing to do with the attempted murder and everything to do with the movie?#but I do think hollywood and brazzos have a role in the murder/attempt#maybe someone who worked on brazzos saw that charles could return to Hollywood with the movie so they decided to kill him?#It could be one of brazzos' card-playing buddies that charles mentioned!#and the card game could even be the one that mabel and oliver played with the westies#god this season is really good already#omitb#omitb s4#mabel mora#charles haden savage#oliver putnam#only murders in the building

I will forever hold this part in the second op of Death Note close to my heart.
L and his lil capoeira.
#death note#l lawliet#L death note#LOOK AT THAT SWIFT MOVEMENT#I really really hope L did capoeira in the LCTW novel#it's literally action focused they had all the chances there#can't stop thinking that sometimes L does martial arts when he's stressed or something#but he stopped doing it when the task force personally met him and began investigating w him#tho sometimes when he thinks everyone's asleep or when the task force had gone home he'd go to an empty floor#and just... start doing capoeira#i think he starts with doing little moves that can even count as dancing to build momentum and everything goes from there#I AM OBSESSED WITH L AND MARTIAL ARTS IF Y'ALL KNOW ANY FIC PLS PLS TELL ME#'how many times have you watched it?' You cannot solve a problem that you do not understand.
For any hope of eventually defeating trumpism, we do actually have to put in the effort to understand it.
For as long as we remain angry and bewildered, for as long as we sit content with the rightness of our own ideology, we cannot move forward.
If you don't understand why people voted for trump, it's time to ask them. It's time to listen to their answers .
If we ASSUME we know, if we ASSUME we understand without asking, we will continue to come up with inadequate tactics and disappointing outcomes.
Our anger, our hurt, our fear is understandable. But it is not enough to carry us forward.
WHEN WE'RE READY, when we're in a place and state of mind for it, when we are safe to do so-- this is an important part of the work before us.

“We are being led to our slaughter. This has been theorized in a thousand ways, described in environmental, social, and political terms, it has been prophesied, abstracted, and narrated in real time, and still we are unsure of what to do with it. The underlying point is that the progress of society has nothing to offer us and everything to take away. Often it feels like we are giving it away without a fight: when we sell our time for money, allow our passions to be commodified, invest ourselves in the betterment of society, or sustain ourselves on the spoils of ecological destruction, we openly (though not consensually) participate in our own destruction.” — Serafinski, Blessed is the Flame, An introduction to concentration camp resistance and anarcho-nihilism
Civilizations’ death culture of accumulation, exploitation and consumerism, at whatever the cost is at its final stages spreading war and ecocide to every corner of the globe.
It has turned individuals into consumerist herds of wage slaves making us all addicted to some degree or other waiting for the false promises that will never be delivered for most.
How many individuals do actually want to work? I know I don’t. How many actually find pleasure in it having to repeat day after day, after day? Or have to give up on achieving their dreams, or sell themselves in the hope of reaching them?
This is the culture which creates the conditions of refugees fleeing the carnage of war having to walk across a continent to find safety, a better life for themselves and their family all the while begrudging fools would rather see them drown in the medaterian sea along with their children on dinghies so packed with desperate individuals it sinks.
While taking part in solidarity projects I’ve seen mothers in France having to live in muddy fields infested with rats, flimsy tents as protection from the elements. Small groups huddle around fires trying to catch some heat. Babies cries can be heard across the camp. I’ve seen the muddy swamp-like trails that weave through the refugee camp full of rat footprints and urine which appear each morning after the night’s darkness has gone. The very same conditions a 100 years earlier, as the first world war raged on, in the exact same location individuals from lower classes fought it out, blowing each other to smiderians all so wealthier classes could expand their riches!
This is the same culture which creates the conditions for a homeless crisis and makes it socially acceptable for individuals to be left to freeze to death on streets in shop doorways in Dublin’s city centre. I’ve seen the tent cities, the ques of soup kitchens, the desperate.
Society finds this all morally acceptable. The contradiction of civilization couldn’t be any clearer, on the one hand there is riches and wealth beyond beleaf and on the other hand there is poverty and exploitation inflicted beyond comprehension. This is the land of despair, cruelty, and greed.

So I was researching Soresu for a fic (Tarre Vizsla was totally a master of Soresu) and I finally actually took in why it's the way of the mynock
It's an endurance based form that lets you continue on for a long time using momentum, which is why Obi-Wan constantly does flourishes he isn't actually showing off, he's actually building momentum so that he gains more power with less energy. Probably doesn't work like that in real life, I don't know about swords, but that's the explanation.
Anyway what Soresu does is gain momentum and sap your opponents endurance like a mynock saps power from ships and I really love that someone thought about all this .
#obi-wan kenobi#soresu#form iii#lightsaber#before i thought it was only precise movement i completely missed the stuff on momentum building

hope hope hope. hope is a practice we don't just live it we choose it. choosing it every damn day. living normal as usual during a genocide isn't natural. forced to survive. but seeing so much hope in practice in the lives of the Palestians I have met, in the words and embraces of my BIPOC peers, in the encampments at universities right now, in the de-arrests and locked arms of our comrades, in the Palestinians who fight to live every day. hope hope hope. hope is an action it is a practice it is a feeling and we must choose it every day.
#muerto talks#feeling overwhelmed and angry and frustrated#trying to channel my hatred toward bigots into hope and love for my comrades#hope and love will exceed my hate!#build hope by learning of our movements#just sat thru a talk on non carceral mental health practices and had the honor to be a reflector on the panel#so so in awe at the students occupying their campuses#so full of joy seeing waves of humans blocking police cars#hope hope hope celebrate these movements celebrate these fights

today I’m doing what I can to re-ground myself, re-focus, and nourish my body and soul.
not eating or letting my daily needs slide won’t change the reality we live in.
ignoring or distancing myself from my support network won’t change the reality we live in.
not caring or giving up won’t change the reality we live in.
yes, I feel a mix of dread, frustration, anger, sadness, and defiance. it’s good to acknowledge and feel those emotions. but what will keep us going are things like self-care, community, solidarity, local action, and hope.
love y’all ❤️
#my stream of consciousness rn#I don’t know what exactly I’m going to do next#but despite how it feels there’s a lot we still can do#the election outcome was only one point in time#long-term change and movement-building takes time
