All my stories take place in roughly the same timeframe in largely the same environment: hesitantly named Synsolic as an analogue to Earth (I may change that later because I don't know if I like it but it's stuck for a while now so. We'll see)

It's fantasy because I am a sucker for fantasy, populated by humans, merfolk, fauns, satyrs, ipotanes, and nightlings- which are also called shadowlings or aveoliths in varying contexts. I know "faun'' and ''satyr" are largely used interchangeably in a lot of things, but they're different species, here, though they share similarities with each other as well as with ipotanes, the other ungulate species. Merfolk are actually made up of two subspecies, iarans and nix, but while they differ physiologically in a lot of ways, culturally they are one and the same, so they're generally grouped together. I think that's as far as I'm going to get into species things for now, because I've got *checks notes* 32 pages of species things in my own nonsense word docs and I really don't think you want all of that. Unless...

BUT

The world as it is now has been fractured. I hesitate to call it post-apocalyptic because that implies a level of supernaturality and/or violence that generally isn't present, but the gist of it is that over a century past, in the mountain range at the northern edge of the continent, the tallest peak erupted. Think Mt. Taupō or Mt Tambora, with some variation. The ash, the pyroclastic flow, the acid rains and sulfide clouds, combined with the continued effects that the material that made it into the stratosphere had on climate in the next few years, contributed to a heavy death toll. Even after the initial activity ceased, cities fell just because they couldn't feed themselves in the unnatural winter that followed, in the subsequent years' lack of a true summer. The sulfuric content released poisoned the air, especially close to the mountain, though if you were close to the mountain, you were probably dead anyway from that initial eruption, just from being buried in ash or debris. More people were lost than can be counted- in the hours after the eruption, but also in the years that followed.

Some were affected more than others. Merfolk, occupying mostly the southern seas and having the added protection of the waters' surface, retained more of their infrastructure, and with it, knowledge and history, more of their people, than terrestrial humanoids. Satyrs had typically occupied the forests in the north, and so there are very few, if any, true satyr cities remaining. As a result, merfolk are now known for their knowledge of technologies that were lost to others, and satyrs are largely travelers or scattered among other species, unlike fauns, humans, and ipotanes, who have places that are more theirs. (The species are not completely distinct, they live amongst each other in a lot of cases, but there are places that are mostly fauns, or mostly humans, for example, where other species are more a minority. Satyrs don't really have that.)

It has been a long time since the cataclysm. Nobody currently alive lived it, in fact, there are few that even remember somebody who did, and if they did, they were almost too young to know it. But it lingers in the way that things are, now. Cities don't really exist as much as towns or villages, small settlements that can support themselves with little outside influence. There's not a whole lot in the way of governmental influence, and there's definitely not any nations anymore, though they were more of city-states before, anyway. This is a double-edged sword, because the cataclysm made people come together in a way they weren't previously, but it also gave people who wanted to use or harm others an easy avenue to do it, with no formal punishment a disincentive.

The world is mostly in-betweens. Towns or herds or any other type of community are few and far between, and in the spaces linking them is just a vast wilderness that, too, has been changed by the cataclysm. Ash is rich soil. There are forests where there were once prairies and there are rivers that were redirected. The closer you get to the mountain, the more changed things have been. The landscape is scattered with overgrown ruins, again, with increasing density as you draw closer to the source. People are isolated because of this vast space they must span in order to reach others. There are many travelers, but they rarely cross paths, because how could they? There is so much space.

Welcome back to “new TMA fan listens to season 2!” and im ur host. So far I listened to 3 episodes from season 2 but I gleaned a lot of connections from it. Oh what is it unknown viewer? Golly gosh I’m so glad you asked. <3

MAG 41: Too deep

Jon’s such a dumbass like bro get the hell out of those tunnels. I didn’t make many connections since he was just yapping the whole time but it’s interesting there was like a wine bottle from 2003 down there??? Who is drinking down there??? My notes say that the tunnels could’ve been connected to the tunnels from MAG 35, the one from Harold Silvanas statement. Like literally connected. Could be a stretch but hey, they’re both tunnels.

Also he found those circle of worms. No theory but could be a portal or some shit

MAG 42:

This one was kinda creepy to me just cause of the guy at the end being like “encore?” So casually like bro there are dead bodies. Anyways something stuck out to me; that crystal shop.

Jennifer mentions being near a shop called “crystals. Books. Tarot” and a guy, tall, black and face of deep worry staring at her and asking what she was listening to. Then mumbling about protecting her hearing. This reminded me of MAG 32, when Jane mentioned working in a crystal shop (“Good Energies spiritual supplies shop) and how her coworker, Oliver, would stare at her with sadness and a bit of fear in the end.

Both seemed to know something. While Oliver wasn’t given a physical description, my theory is that they’re both the same people and he….knows crap or something. My only connections in the vague idea of knowing something and working in spiritual shops but who knows.

Finally. MAG 43:

Oh god. First, I love Basira. She needs to be paid more. Next, we finally have a name for the unnamed burn victim from First Aid (MAG 12)! Diego Molina. Apparently an assistant curator. He was yelling the same stuff from first aid about “Asag” yada yada but he had that red leather bound book that was mentioned in MAG 12. The one Gerard asked if the paramedics brought. He was killed by Gerard that episode but the event from MAG 43 happened half a year earlier. Nice to know a name.

(EDIT AUG 2, 8:11 PM: forgot to mention but I’m assuming Gerard and Diego know each other since Gerard seemed to be chasing after this book in First Aid and Diego had it. Both were found in MAG 12 together and Gerard later killed him so I wonder what’s their beef? Their deal?)

Also, Alice Tonner, or Daisy, mentioned spider husks. Possibly a reference to Arachnophobia (MAG 16)? Or any other statement with spiders since they pop up a lot in the magnus archives. She also mentioned vampires which could be related to Vampire Killer (MAG 10). Maybe she had to investigate one of Trevor’s kills or even knew a vampire, who knows.

Anyways. Jon is apparently going to get those tapes. I mean go you. Be careful

Hey, yeah I totally get it, thanks for letting me know! If it's too draining to reply immediately or at all, don't! I just wanted to vent a bit

I don't mind you posting it if you decide to do that I'll just stay in anon - It was mostly jidt the lack of communication between me and my parents (my fault as well as theirs) abt where I wanted to go to college

I applied aborad and wanted to go and even got in but my parents are a bit on the fence abt it (understandably! It's a big decision and I know they have my best interests in mind) I feel like if I'd just talked to them a bit properly abt my ambitions and the availability of scholarships, financial aid, things I could do to make the whole process easier, they'd be a bit more welcome to it

But they've never really seriously considered the option of me going abroad (on my worst days I think it's because they don't think I'm good enough to get in so they don't even keep it as an option) and that has always put me off from talking to them abt it (which is my fault)

Now it's time to decide and I really want to go abroad where I got in, but they're pushing local unis (nothing wrong with that btw! I just had different plans) and I still don't want to have studying abroad convo bcs I'm afraid if say I want to go abroad they're just going to stare at me blankly or say it's too expensive (true, but options still exist if we explored them!) or say I only want to go abroad bcs it's "hip" or "cool" Or wtv but I must have the convo I have to I eventually will so

"Reblog" - ok this one's p self-explanatory but it's what i tag the posts i reblog with! It's... a tad useless bc 95% of my blog is reblogging but! I've done it for so long it doesn't feel right to just stop dattebayo

"Reblog to spread the word" - these are mainly used on informative posts? But can also be used on posts that are like "hey i hope u have a good day today and u deserve good things" bc i feel that way abt nyall :> oh and it can also b used as a tag for things that are too light-hearted to put in save a life!

"Reblog to save a life" - thsse are posts w p heavy topics! Donation posts also fall into this category bc i kno they can make some feel guilty as they can't donate, n i wanted to put that stuff into a neat lil tag.

"Spread them commissions like butter on bread" - my commissions tag! I rb a lot of commission posts, so if u ever feel generous n donate some muns, then hop into that tag or save a life to find some peeps to throw ur money at!!

i promise you critiquing an irondad fic isn’t the end of the world chill out

Ok. Since this is an opportunity to explain the issue with what she did, I am going to give you a very detailed answer to why I flipped out the way I did.

What fromsiberia did was NOT a critique. It was HATE.

I am a professional artist with a bachelors in fine art, and one of the classes we had to take in school to get a fine arts degree in my major was called “media literacy”. In this class we examined the ethics of media and how to properly engage with media.

One of the things we learned was the ethics and structure of critiques.

The very first thing you learn about critiques is that a true critique is made for the betterment of the creator.

Fromsiberia broke this rule right off the bat by posting this critique without the author’s name, without the title of the work, and put it on a public forum in the template of a callout post. She then, and this is what my biggest issue is, put it in the fucking tag.

That would be like publishing a book, calling it “everything wrong with that one book, you know the one” and placing it right next to the original work with the intention of hurting the author and devaluing the work. It is HATE. Pure and simple.

Now, that is not to say that you can’t be displeased with a work. You absolutely can! I have tons of fics that i go to my friend and say “gosh this fic was fucking awful can you believe they did xyz? Total bummer.” And thats FAIR. You are allowed to read something and dislike it and vent about how much you hated it. You just dont do that PUBLICLY. keep it in the chat, bros.

Now i will move on to a helpful portion and how to learn from this situation: what defines a GOOD CRITIQUE.

The first thing you need to know about good critiques is that NOT EVERYONE IS ACCEPTING OF THEM. people are all in different stages in their journeys as creators, and sometimes these people are in a stage where they are simply building confidence, not skill. This does not mean they are not skilled, and some of the best creators in the world still go through confidence phases where they are simply looking for acceptance of their work, not advice to make it better even if it is well intentioned and maybe even completely valid. Its like when someone gets in trouble after something unfair happened to them. Sometimes they are not looking for solutions to make it better, and just want to vent about how sucky the situation is. They are not solution-oriented. Sometimes all an author is in the mindset to hear is that they did a good job, and often they request that is all you say, such as dont like, dont read. Those people are not in a position to accept critique, and if you are a good critiquer, you will accept that and leave them alone.

If your creator is asking for critique, such as saying “tell me what you think!” “Tell me your ideas!” “Constructive criticism welcome!”, you can then post a GOOD AND CONSTRUCTIVE CRITIQUE by following this format:

1) start with at least 2 or 3 positive points.

This is perhaps the most important part of a good critique because it establishes that you have the author’s best interest in mind and are not simply there to tear them down. If you can’t find it in your heart to say 2 or 3 nice things about a work, even as simple as “love the title” or “great sentence structure!” Then you are not here to help the author and need to move on and do something else.

2) Preface any critique with words such as “if it were me” or “in my opinion” so you make it clear that you are not saying your critique is perfect and the only correct way to do it. Follow it with an idea to fix it if you can.

People in my school would get horrible reputations for being bad critiquers when they would just come up and say “its better if you do this. You should do this.” Your opinion is not the law of the land. Just because you have an idea does not mean that is the best solution. A true critiquer lets the creator make their own content and offers solutions the creator can shape and mold in their own way to make their own creations. Do not shove your opinion down their throats.

3) being confused about a plot point or feeing like there is a plot hole does not mean it is wrong.

One of the things that pissed me off with that girl was she acted like that one plot hole that she decided must not have an answer made the fic completely unreadable and that it was her duty to make sure other people knew it sucked instead of politely asking the author “im a bit confused why the avengers didnt tell tony the truth. Could you explain your thinking?” THAT is the correct way to state that question (again with that being only part of ur critique) so that the author can EXPLAIN THEMSELVES or LEARN TO FIX IT.

4) thank the author for the content. Let them know you appreciate the hard work they did, even if you found places for improvement

This once again is one of the most important part of the critique and shows your true intentions to the author. It proves you are not simply here to break down their creation and whine about stuff you didnt like. A lot of work went into making the work, and you should acknowledge that.

Now, not every comment has to be a critique. I often dont have the time or energy to leave a critique on every fic i like, so i just keysmash and yell at the author for making me feel things. However, if you are going to tell the author things you didnt like or think they can improve on, follow a true critique format so you dont hurt the author and give yourself a bad reputation.

Now, for the creators, you are going to get bad critiques. You are going to get rude comments about how your work sucks or even call out hate like fromsiberia did to that story. Being able to handle it gracefully is hard, but you can learn from bad critiques and even hate like this. Look at what the point of their rant is. Is what they are saying, despite how mean and rude, a valid observation? Even after reading how awful fromsiberia’s post was, i agreed that it was a choice i didnt understand that the author did not explain why the avengers didnt tell tony who peter was. As i am forming my critique for the piece, i will include that in there. I may even offer a solution if i can think of one like fromsiberia did. You need to take your emotions away and try to learn from hate and bad critiques if you can handle it, and try to better yourself from them. If you improve despite the hate, then you have come out on top.

Tldr: good critiques are for the betterment of the creator. What fromsiberia did was not at all intentioned to help the creator make better content and was simply made to tear down the hard work that was put into it and posted on a public forum without giving the author a chance to learn from or even see their response, and that is why it is hate.
