#wanted to reblog with these tags #good stuff ... #i think that dunmeshi has a lot of genre deconstruction hallmarks irt the questions it asks that other stories in the genre breeze past #literally from go! i recall that interview of kui's about videogames where she says that she isn't sure what kind of videogame #dunmeshi could be made into #because it's exactly about the moments that video games don't show #but kabru's attentiveness to the narrative as narrative helps attune the reader to the constructedness of much of what we are being told #about the world #which is great because a lot of information that does that is in the extras #which i love the extras but supplementary material is supplementary and should not be needed to understand canon #and it's not! because if you're reading attentively then kabru's approach (especially as we get closer into his internal landscape) #encourages an awareness of the different perspectives and motivations with which the stories about the world and the dungeon are constructed #as well as playing into a reading of the dungeon as a place of reifying and literalising fantasy and narratives (much like the prophecy #which is not exactly a “lie” because the winged lion makes it true. much like the “differences between the races” were made real #by the demon's power...) We really get to see Kabru exercise his social awareness and his story-crafting skills this episode, like how he tailors his backstory differently to Toshiro and Namari (and the Floke twins out of frame!) - framing the massacre of his people as a result of elven interventionism and focusing on his personal tragedy; contrasting his hardworking mother to the faceless, dispassionate elven forces

vs how he talks about Utaya with the elves, first by making them take him seriously pay proper attention to him, indirectly invoking Milsiril's social capital to create a nepo-baby persona* that paints Kabru as not-like-the-other-tallmen, why he's practically a Canary

*i said persona. if you call him a nepo baby in my notes i will send a squad of trained skunks to your house to eat your plants and spray your kitchen counters and also block you

(baffles me. BAFFLES ME that there are readers who fell for it. at least the Japanese VA did a great job of making it sound just fake enough for the audience to clock it as a successful deception check, so it should be clearer now)

Only then he appeals to their emotion, framing Utaya as being about the elves' misplaced best efforts and the losses they suffered, framing the death of imperial soldiers as equal to the brutal massacre of a large city's worth of people. That emotional appeal and successful positioning of himself as aligned with the Canaries is what allows him to ultimately propose his plan to evacuate the dungeon.

First Post... A bit about me

Greetings and welcome to my profile.... I'm Mike, Mactep, Mac, Sir Grumblebear, and probably a few other names that others are afraid to call me to my face

You know the old adage how they say some people learn it, some are born with it? I have always had a slight bent to things, and as I have gotten a bit older that bend has gotten more pronounced, and maybe more importantly than that it has evolved.

I am happily married, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t help teach people what I know, learn from others, meet other people in this crazy lifestyle, or simply break out an instrument or three and rock out in a scene with someone. I have been around awhile, and been in the scene in various places as I have grown. I have spent time in Black Rose, Western Mass Power Exchange, and Boston Dungeon Society. Here in Indiana now, I am a member of Lafayette Alternative Lifestyles, MAsT Indianapolis, Titans of the Midwest, and IMAS. I am the director for MAsT:Tippecanoe, as well as contestant coordinator for the Midwest Olympus Leather Weekend, and facilitator of the Indiana Leather Contest Prep Series. I also am one of the Indiana Newbie Sponsors group, and am more than willing to discuss what it is that we do with new folks, or those that have questions. I might not have all the answers, but I am fairly certain I can get you on the right path.

I have skills with a good number of things but the following are probably my favorite: -Floggers (I am a big fan of both thud and sting, and more importantly, the blending of the two) It also happens to be a bit of an obsession with me has I have a motley collection of floggers, yet I always seem to find room for one more. - Canes (Leaving angry red welts) - A good solid paddle - Rough body play (Nothing says I like you elementary school style like a slap, kick, or punch) - Breath control (yeah it’s taboo, some big names are against it, but done right it can enhance any scene) - Violet wand and TENS Units (Happy zappy fun) - Fire cupping (Even more fun when turning it to blood cupping) - Cell Popping (Microbranding) - Needles, scalpels, and staples (Bloody good fun) - Cigar play (The joy of a good smoke and a willing bottom)

There are very few things I am not willing to give a try; the caveat here is rope. While I appreciate the art and the beauty of shibari, the way that rope can be cinched on a body, I have no patience for the time needed to do it. I like cuffs and chain for quick restraint. I also like just giving the command, don’t fucking move.

More importantly than play I am about education, learning, and discovering more of the spiritual side of this life. I have found more fulfillment here recently, just letting things go to be decided by the universe. I enjoy finding those quiet moments when presented an opportunity to share, and seeking out others on a similar path. I am always willing to talk with people, especially those deep talks. I am embracing my woo.

You will find me supporting our community at various events, these include the Indiana and Great Lakes Leather contests, more often than not you could find me at the sound system. But with the honor of the Olympus title I have gotten to emcee a contest. (Mactep with a mic can be rather interesting) I also try to get to go to different and varied events, though I do find GLLA to be home for the most part.

You can also find me teaching whenever possible be it in a one on one situation, small group or even large group. The other half and I have presented flogging classes, and a dungeon monitoring class. I have also done various 101 classes. We are very proud of one involving mental health and the community, unique as it tackles both sides of the coin.

I am Leather, it has taken me a long time to accept that, but it is true. I endeavor to bring that tradition and ideals embodied in it into my everyday life. Embodying honesty, integrity, stability, respect, giving back to my community, and fully acknowledging, appreciating, and learning from those that have come before on this path. And of course with leather comes that hot nasty sex, and who doesn't love that?

Outside of the Lifestyle I have a few likes as well…

- I am a geek and wear the label proudly. I am a gamer both of the console and table top variety. I can be perfectly at home playing Zombie Dice, Munchkin, or what have you, and just as happy knee deep killing animated zombies on the 360 or XboxOne. Wanna talk games, I'd be glad too.

- I have a warped and odd sense of humor, and sometimes it gets me into trouble. Just remember no matter what I say I truly don't mean some of the bizarre things I have said. Especially when entered into some back and forth action. As a side bar on this, I should discuss lines. Lines are those interesting things that I typically do not pay attention too until I have stepped way over. This results in some comments saying I am sick, twisted, bizarre... these are not bad things typically in my eyes. If humor ventures into depraved territories, just speak up, I'll pull back so to speak.

- I am a political junkie, and amazingly I am one of those people who will actually listen to a side and not just go "No you are wrong!" Well most of the time any way. The cerebral side of my personality loves a good debate normally no matter the topic, so wanna tickle my fancy? Yes touch that part of my personality and enjoy the ride.

- Am an owner of cats.... evil little minions that will one day do my bidding. (Yeah more like its they are in my face going Meow, which through careful study and analysis means one of four things "Move bitch, that's my spot", "Pet me you dolt", "Give me food/water/toys now Pinky", and "Dude you don't use water to clean, you are supposed to use your tongue")

- Am a pretty avid reader, and enjoy most genres of books (Just don't ever ask me to read a bodice ripper) Personal favorite authors are Harry Turtledove, Tom Clancy, Eric Flint, Jim Butcher and Timothy Zahn. Always willing to take suggestions as well.

- I love good conversation, deep philosophical ones. I love the ones where ideas can be discussed and no one gets butthurt if you don’t agree with them. I find there are a lot of intelligent people in the world, but often that intelligence is often matched with an inability to accept different positions, or accept debate without taking it personally. When I can get that good mental work out it makes me very, very happy. I am going to go out there and say again. I will talk with you. I will not engage in a shouting match, I will not let it devolve into name calling. If you cannot engage me with a degree of courtesy, move on, because I will most assuredly move on at the first sign of nastiness.

- Am a cigar and bourbon enthusiast. I find the joy of a quality cigar accompanied with a nice bourbon can make even the most bleak of times or feeling seem to evaporate and disappear. You can find me at the ashbash at any event that is kind enough to have one.
