Loreena McKennitt - Brian Boru‘s March
youtube
Comment: I first came across Loreena Mc Kennitt in a large media store in New York in 1997. I liked going to libraries and music stores at that times - just browsing around a bit. And I like Celtic music - since it is often so full of mystery and melancholy, but in a positive way. My first album from her was „The Book Of Secrets“ where she wrote a lot about her experiences of traveling in the accompanying booklet. I felt immediately connected to her attitude.

Today is such a bright day that it brings to mind the coming spring. That's why I find the interpretation of the song in the YouTube video above so fitting - although in fact it’s a song to the honor of an Irish ruler (Brian Boru) of the early Middle Ages.

#OTD in 999 – The Battle of Glenn Máma.
In December of the year 999, after celebrating Christmas on a march to Dublin, the Munster king Brian Boru won a major battle at Glen Máma near Dublin after being intercepted by the Norse of Dublin and the Leinstermen on Thursday 30 December. Only the Clonmacnois set of annals, pro-Úi Néill, mentions Máel Sechnaill (king of the Southern Uí Néill) as taking part in the expedition on Brian’s…

I started making this post to say I wished I could find more info about this engagement, but then I did find it!
Presbyterian Moderator, Right Reverend Dr John Kirkpatrick, his colleagues in the Church Leaders Group (Ireland), along with other church representatives and guests, offered words of encouragement and prayer for His Majesty King Charles III this morning, when the King visited St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral on the Hill of Armagh.
On the site of St Patrick’s 5th century ‘Great Stone Church’, the King had the opportunity to talk to the Church Leaders and hear something of the work of the Church. The service in Armagh was part of a two day visit to Northern Ireland by the King and Queen, with Her Majesty meeting children in Armagh’s Robinson Library as part of her campaign to encourage reading.
At the same time, in the neighbouring cathedral, there was a period of reflection and intercession during which the Church Leaders – Most Rev John McDowell, Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh, the Most Rev Eamon Martin, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Armagh, the Presidents of the Methodist Church in Ireland, Rev Ken Nixon and Irish Council of Churches, Rt Rev Andrew Forster, along with the Moderator - prayed for God’s blessing and guidance for the King.
The Church Leaders’ Group (Ireland), represents all-Ireland denominations with churches across the whole of the island of Ireland. It came into existence in the late 1960s when the Church Leaders recognised the value in working together in light of the urgency of political developments of the time. Since then they have met frequently, often speaking out collectively on certain public issues.
The Dean of Armagh, the Very Rev Shane Forster, welcomed him on his arrival as the Cathedral Choir, sang the words of ‘St Patrick’s Breastplate’. The choir, which was founded by Royal Charter in 1634 by King Charles I, also sang the gentle and calming words of the ‘Irish Blessing’ during the time of prayer, to a setting by Bob Chilcott.
There’s also a bit on the COI diocese page:
The Hill of Armagh has been a place of Christian worship since the 5th century AD.  It has connections to both St Patrick and to another King as it is the burial place of Brian Boroimhe (Boru), High King of Ireland, who died at the Battle of Clontarf in 1014.
As Prince of Wales, His Majesty was previously the guest of the Cathedral on a visit to Armagh in June 2000 and was hosted by St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cathedral when he returned to the city in May 2019. The Cathedral was honoured to welcome Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, when it held the Royal Maundy Service in March 2008.
Archbishop McDowell remarked, ‘The King is no stranger to Northern Ireland, nor indeed to the whole island of Ireland, for which I know he has a particular affection and friendship. I know too that he comes today with words of encouragement to the Church Leaders as we continue to work towards a reconciled future. Our prayers of blessing for The King and Queen today will continue as together they enter ever more fully into their vocation in the years ahead.’
Speaking once again as an insane person, I really appreciate Charles’ emphasis on ecumenical/interfaith dialogue

omg these ones are hard!
haha ok, also no skipping, let's see if I can do this: (F)lannigan's Ball by the Dropkick Murphys
⭐️ - what are two songs you like that are similar to this one?
Cheating a little by using a song by the same band, but Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ye by the Dropkick Murphys because it is also their cover of a traditional folk song.
This is a neat punk-ish cover of Brian Boru's March by The Mahones that I think has a similar vibe. :-)
🤡 - describe the song in the worst way possible
young man spends six months trying to learn how to dance, it ends terribly, rip song narrator, but also sounds like it was a decent party
✨ - describe the song in emojis
🕺🗓🗓🗓🗓🗓🗓🍻🍷🍷💃🏻🕺
[music asks]
[feel free to keep sending guys! hopefully all these emojis are working, if not it is a dude dancing lol]

We went for a short trip to Northern Ireland in October and visited quite a few prehistorical sites, such as dolmen, burial cairns and a souterrain (crawling into a badly lit tunnel basically). I couldn’t help myself to include the interesting history of the Brontë Family since we visited a place on the Brontë Homeland route. I also attempt to play the folk tune ‘Brian Boru’s March’. Enjoy!
