Fyre's convention adventures - Day 3 - Con O'Neill's Fanmeet
My final meet of the event was Con’s, immediately after the joyful chaos of his panel with Rhys.
Forewarning, this one contains some details of animal harm that happened to his pet before he got him.
He barely had sat down when someone asked if he’d been Whammed already and the look of feigned shock and “that’s none of your business!” set the tone of the thing :D He also told us in his best encouraging voice "You can be whammed as much as you like and don't let the right wing tell you otherwise!"
And also led into a discussion about whether it was Wham! or whether it was George Michael’s solo for Last Christmas and he had to sheepishly back down after a minute and admit, no, it was Wham, definitely Wham.
And of course, I had to bring up accent stuff and asked how it felt to actually be able to use his own accent, given how rarely northern English accents show up in media made elsewhere. He said it was a delight to be able to bring a bit of Wigan to the production.
He also talked about his drama teacher when he was a kid (who he did not name because she doesn’t deserve that respect) who – when he was sixteen – told him he would never be a successful actor because he had a weird voice. There was apparently a recent review for The Penguin series that someone said he had the coolest voice and he thought that was a lovely fuck you to that malignant boot.
He made a beautiful point that if you’re a teacher, especially a teacher in a creative field, you have a duty to be encouraging. Not talking BS about how everyone will be famous, he said, but realistic, supporting and encouraging the kids, because “we know it’s hard. We don’t need to be told it’s hard. We know, but when it’s good, it’s fucking amazing”. He also mentioned that it’s come so far from the days of RP everywhere.
I said it was definitely how I felt about seeing Buttons as well – having a working class Edinburgh accent, something that so many people have never heard. He was so happy to talk about how fantastic Ewen Bremner is as an actor (“even if I can’t understand anything he’s saying”) and that he saw him in the original run of the Trainspotting stage production in the 90s when Ewen played Renton, several years before the film happened.
It was surreal, he said, to have seen this incredible actor on stage and thirty years later, to be sharing the screen with him as Buttons (“and still not understanding a word he was saying!”) and that Ewen is genuinely one of the best actors he knows and that he’s also the best kind of people.
Someone asked about how they did the seagull stuff with Buttons and he told us about Jonathan, the gull on a string, but in the shots when they didn’t have the camera on Buttons, Ewen wore a stuffed seagull on his head to maintain the right eyelines. He had to admit it was quite challenging to keep his face straight when filming because when Ewen spoke, the plushie gull was jiggling on his head XD
And then, of course, he broke our hearts by telling us about how he and his husband adopted Cooper, their wee doggo.
Their previous dog had passed and they’d been adamant they weren’t going to adopt again because it fully broke their hearts when he died, but someone sent Con a picture of a dog in a shelter in Hungary, saying “does this remind you of anyone?” and it was the spitting image of their previous dog. They got a bit emotional about it and after a few days of trying to hold off, they called the shelter.
Cooper had already been adopted – in London – but it wasn’t working out, so they got in touch with the current owners and planned to go down and meet them. The first time Cooper saw them, he started barking excitedly and things only escalated :D
They took Cooper off for a walk to see how they got on, then got so distracted comparing selfies, that Cooper trotted off and they were so panicked about losing him that they rushed back to tell the current owners, only Cooper was there, patiently waiting on the step and ecstatically started barking when he saw them coming again.
So they go in and Con said he took one of the ladies aside to find out why the adoption hadn’t worked, because they needed to know why in case it was major behavioural things that needed work. She said that the dog was incapable of love or connecting with people. And Con, looking beyond her shoulder, could see his husband on the floor, dog on his chest, wagging his tail so enthusiastically his whole body was wagging, licking Con’s husband all over his face. Con be like MMHM. Sounds like a skills issue ;)
So they took him home but got a bit concerned when he had a tendency to bite and latch on if people touched his ears or ribs. Turned out Cooper had been horribly abused in Hungary: tattoos on his ear, broken ribs, cigarette burns and surgery without anaesthetic. They were worried it could be a problem because they have young grandkids.
Still, they decided do the trial adoption and see how he got on – usually, he said, the trial is for a week or two, then the dog returns to the original adopters and then the paperwork is done. They never saw the original adopters again.
And while they were still concerned about the biting, Con had to go away for work for a few weeks, so they got a dog-sitter in to look after Cooper. When Con returned, he said Cooper crawled along the floor of the hall on his belly to Con, head and ears down, then crawled all the way up under his shirt, curling up against his chest, trembling and whimpering. The dogsitter – who is some kind of pet psychologist as well – said it was because he’s been abandoned and dumped so many times, he didn’t know they were coming back.
Con: right that second, I decided fuck the grandkids, we’re keeping him.
And now, Cooper is so happy and safe and loved and safe :)
There was one other question but I can’t recall what it was now. It was such a lovely chat and he is genuinely such a lovely, warm, funny guy.

I once accompanied my parents [king Albert I and queen Elisabeth of the Belgians] to Saint-Germain-en-Laye where the peace treaty between the allied powers and Austria was being drawn up (September 10, 1919). I can still see, in the great room of the castle, the table with the green carpet, from which were born, alas! more thorns than roses.
The same day, we paid a visit to my maternal great-aunt Marie, widow of Francesco II of Bourbon-Sicily, last king of Naples. Aged eighty-years-old, she lived in exile in a modest apartment where horse engravings displaced family portraits. Some Neapolitan servants remained faithful to her. I can't forget this almost spectoral vision, a true resurgence of the past: great, straight, extremely thin, dressed all in black, her waist tightened by a leather belt: from it escaped a tight skirt that barely covered her button boots. But what struck me the most, was the haughty carriage of her little head crowned with a double graying braid and her periwinkle blue eyes, which literally devoured her face. When in the course of the conversation, this questioning and heartbreaking look fell on you, it made you wonder from what catastrophe the world was going to perish…
My frather spoke in German with the queen of Naples. She shook her head in sign of indignation while evoking, among other things, “the awful Treaty of Trianon which, through the stupid dismemberment of Hungary, dispossessed three million Magyars”. She spoke with a handkerchief over her mouth, no doubt out of coquetry, to hide her bad teeth… imitating her sister, the empress of Austria. The interview was interrupted by heavy silences, reminiscent of the distressing atmosphere of certain Russian novels. Finally, we took leave of this strange sovereign. At the moment of our parting, Marie asked if it was true that I was engaged to the heir to the Italian throne? Before the hesitation of my mother, she added that she would disapprove of her great-niece's union with a Savoy. It is very obvious that the one who was still called the “heroine of Gaeta” could only condemn such a union.
Let us remember the heroic gesture of the wife of the king of Naples, sharing the dangers of her soldiers to save the city, the final bastion of her kingdom besieged by the troops of Vittorio-Emanuele II. The first king of Italian unity represented, in the eyes of Marie-Sophie, nothing but a vulgar usurper.

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Family members of a 31-year-old American tourist who was killed while on vacation in Hungary’s capital mourned their loss while a 37-year-old suspect was in custody Saturday.
The victim, Mackenzie Michalski from Portland, Oregon, was reported missing on Nov. 5 after she was last seen at a nightclub in central Budapest. Police launched a missing person investigation and reviewed security footage from local nightclubs where they observed Michalski with a man later identified as the suspect in several of the clubs the night of her disappearance.
The man was detained on Nov. 7 and questioned by police, and later confessed to the killing.
Before the confession, Michalski's family and friends had launched an effort to find her, starting a Facebook group to gather tips on her whereabouts. Her parents traveled to Hungary to assist in the search, but while en route learned that she had been killed.
At a candlelight vigil in Budapest on Saturday night, the victim's father, Bill Michalski, told The Associated Press that he was “still overcome with emotion" at the death of his daughter.
“There was no reason for this to happen,” he said. I’m still trying to wrap my arms around what happened ... I don’t know that I ever will."
Police detained the suspect, an Irish citizen, on the evening of Nov. 7. Investigators said that Michalski and the suspect met at a nightclub and danced before leaving for the man's rented apartment. The man killed Michalski while they were engaged in an “intimate encounter,” police said.
The suspect, whom police identified by the initials L.T.M., confessed to the killing, but said it had been an accident. Police said that he had attempted to cover up his crime by cleaning the apartment and hiding Michalski's body in a wardrobe before purchasing a suitcase and placing her body inside.
He then rented a car and drove to Lake Balaton, around 90 miles (150 kilometers) southwest of Budapest, where he disposed of the body in a wooden area outside the town of Szigliget.
Video released by police showed the suspect guiding authorities to the location where he had left the body. Police said the suspect had made internet searches before being apprehended on how to dispose of a body, police procedures in missing person cases, whether pigs really eat dead bodies, and the presence of wild boars in the Lake Balaton area.
He also made an internet search inquiring on the competence of Budapest police.
Crime scene photographs released by police showed a rolling suitcase, several articles of clothing including a pair of fleece-lined boots, and a small handbag next to a credit card bearing Michalski's name.
According to a post by an administrator of a Facebook group called “Find Mackenzie Michalski,” which was created on Nov. 7, Michalski, who went by “Kenzie,” was a nurse practitioner who “will forever be remembered as a beautiful and compassionate young woman.”
At the candlelight vigil in Budapest on Saturday, Michalski's father gave brief comments to those who had gathered, and was wearing a baseball cap he said he had received as a gift from his daughter.
Michalski had visited Budapest before, and called it her “happy place,” her father told the AP.
“The history, she just loved it and she was just so relaxed here," he said. "This was her city.”

psst! hey kid! I heard you like countryhumans!
I remember back when I was active in the fandom (it's still kind of a guilty pleasure fandom) I had a few things that happened to the Philippines and co:
-when Philippines is standing up right, he's Philippines, when he's upside down, he's Martial. there was this incorrect quote I wrote where he's doing cartwheels and shouting "I am Philippines! I am martial! I am Philippines! I am Martial!"
-America once injured his eye and had a cotton pad over it. Philippines wouldn't stop calling him "cotton eyed Joe"
nobody knows where he came from, or where he went.
-Indonesia has a giant fish tank at his house.
-there was this incident where the south east Asia gang showed up to the meeting building early to find a guy in a janitor's outfit and a box van trying to get into the building, they asked what he was doing, and the guy said that their boss had ordered some new chairs and he came to take the old chairs. so they decided to help him out by not only unlocking the doors for him, but also helped him load all of the chairs into his van.
Come to find out, ASEAN never ordered any new chairs, they just helped a guy steal all of their chairs.
-Cambodia lost both of her legs to a landmine and relies on the gang to carry her around.
-same year as the chair incident, at summer boot camp (which is just a glorified summer camp for Country humans) Indonesia and Vietnam got sick and tired of eating camp food and decided to go out and gather their own food.
it was a disaster, when they came back, Vietnam's arm was covered in bee stings and honey, and Indonesia somehow was able to catch a fish, but he had no way of cleaning it, or cooking it, so they just threw the fish back into the water and never complained about camp food ever again.
-same year, while discussing on how to get back on ASEAN's good graces after falling for the classic Bavarian fire drill routine with the chairs, Philippines flew off the swing set and accidentally took out ASEAN
-that was also the same year a squirrel broke into the male European countries' cabin, and sat on Italy's chest. and Italy freaked out thinking it was a rat resulting in every single country in that cabin to freak out because all European countries minus Poland and Iceland, are terrified of rats.
(Poland wasn't there because he and Hungary and Czech packed up their horses, and took an annual road trip that included horse back riding, and taking part in a medieval festival where Poland dresses up as a Winged Hussar, and Hungary goes as a Hungarian Hussar as well)
Yoo...That was a lot of headcanons and they all sounds interesting 👀✨✨✨
And the fact that you also made headcanons for countryhumans outside of ASEAN is very cool....So far I have only focused on Sea countries, especially Maphilvietindo TwT
Where in the AU I'm working on, their story focuses on their lives in a special school for nations (Which of course is not a regular school, it has a fantasy and mystery genre, and the school has some crazy things going on around it)...So yeah, it's like a school AU where the countries are the students while international organizations like ASEAN, UN, EU, NATO, and others are the teachers lol
And besides Maphilvietindo, I also made some headcanons for other Sea countries...Like Singapore who is secretly a gamer, Cambodia and Thailand who have a sibling rivalry, Brunei being the sanest person in the group, and other 😂
I made a little headcanon for other countries... Like Romania being a vampire and being friends with Bulgaria being a vampire hunter, and some other crazy headcanons
(I think this is my first time yapping about CH on my TTTE blog lol...But it's really nice talking about this TwT💖)

List of things that were supposed to happen in my scrapped countryhumans talent show fanfic
-Hawaii does an Elvis impersonation and performs blue suede shoes
-Hungary spends the entire show trying to solve a Rubik’s cube. When his five minutes on stage ended, they just moved him off to the side so he can continue. He doesn’t solve it
-Poland and Vatican’s talent was performing Exorcisms, and brought a possessed woman on stage to exorcise, but got kicked off immediately by UN. So they begrudgingly decided to perform their exorcism in the boys bathroom, which got stopped halfway through by both UN and ASEAN who understandably did not want a demon running around on the Asian country’s section of the building. Oh yeah, in my ch AU, Poland was a priest and was trained in demonology by Vatican and is certified to perform exorcisms.
-Northern Ireland and England dressed as their secret drag queen personas, along with Wales who dressed in her drag king persona, and they all “danced” (it was mostly them doing uncoordinated dance moves like the worm, the running man, and the epileptic octopus.) to Scotland’s bagpipe playing. And then they all jumped onto each other’s shoulders and fell over.
-Serbia’s performance of a Diss song that she composed that mostly made up of her playing an accordion and dissing all of the countries that have wronged her, or she hates, both past and present. The big finale was when she started insulting Ottoman empire and calling him names, when both Turkey and Ottoman Empire jumped up and chased her around the auditorium while she continued to hurl insults at them, both EU and UN had to chase after the trio to get them to stop.
- a few of the African countries put on “Africa” by Toto.
-America’s western states do a crummy half hearted line dance to “finally Friday”, the northern states perform “Blame Canada”, and New York performs a Broadway number (unfortunately… his song of choice was “springtime for Hitler”) they were all supposed to do a group number, but split due to creative differences.
-Mexico played a quiet folk song on his guitar which was well received.
-Austria played a classical piano piece with Germany as the page turner, Germany fumbles with the pages causing the pages to fall onto the floor, Austria playing the same measure over and over in a panic as Germany struggled to collect all of the pages before giving up, and running off stage in embarrassment.
-France and a few of her states perform “do you hear the people sing?” While Normandy performs “bring him home”
-Austria-Hungary with help from German empire performs a classical music piece, but then gets interrupted by someone’s phone.
-Italy sings a song and then ends it with a sudden cart wheel.
-India, Brazil, Kenya, and Australia bring a VERY VERY DANGEROUS AND HIGHLY VENOMOUS BLACK MAMBA ON STAGE to demonstrate their venomous snake handling skills, they tried to get someone to come on stage to HOLD THE SNAKE. But that got nixed real quickly.
-Mauritius does a dance with his cloned dodo bird, Captain Lewis, which then walked off stage and fell into the audience.
-Britain gets introduced on stage as “performing a nice number by Bach”, he has his suit on, a top hat, and everyone thinks, “oh, he’s going to play the number on his violin”. Nope, he lowers his tie, tucks his pants inside his big, tall, platform boots, and unbuttons his collar to reveal the spiked collar underneath, and whips out his old electric guitar and plays friggin’ toccata and fugue in D minor like a legend.
- Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Estonia try to do a Black Death metal performance with their band, “Estonia and the Nordics”. It was just them screaming, banging on their instruments, and smashing their guitars while Estonia, the lead singer, gets a bout of anxiety and stands awkwardly on the stage looking at her feet unable to sing.
-Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and China tried to perform the dance of the little swans (Russia’s idea, no one else wanted to) but only Russia practiced and China was a last minute edition as Kazakhstan quit that day, and not even one second into the music, the whole thing dissolved into a massive fight and Belarus running offstage to go snitch to Soviet Union.

Fifth and last outfit from Axis Powers Hetalia, Nyotalia Prussia!
This is also the first female cosplay I did! I usually didn’t really identify with most female characters or liked the outfits they wear, but Nyotalia made that a lot easier for me. Like Mochitalia, Nyotalia are the nyotaika (male-female genderbents) versions of the characters. And since I (obviously xD ) like Prussia a lot, this was only a small step~
This outfit was made alongside the previous outfit, since most of the fabric and stylization is the same. The T-shirt fabric is stretch with a pretty pattern, but had to be used double layered to prevent it being see-through. I did make the collar detachable, but mostly because that was easier for me than adjusting the t-shirt to include a collar. The long white boots are bootcovers over a simple high heel. The laces are black elastic to make sure they could be laced up and tight, without giving up the movement needed for my knees. There is a zipper at the heel, so I could use the shoes for other cosplays as well. The jabot and sash were the same ones I made for the male counterpart. Only the miniskirt was bought.
The group picture is from Made in Asia Brussel in 2012. With Male!Hungary (by zoef_costumes on Instagram), Female!Austria (by wflartbeta on Instagram) and South Korea!
Like the last one, the outfit is not very historically accurate. (miniskirt? On a battlefield?) But this outfit had more than one reference picture! … (there were 2 reference pictures xD , click below to see them~) …

Ludwig was very very bored, understandably so, England and his brother were discussing something that he really did try to focus on, but seemed to be wholly unable to, his head felt full of cotton wool as per the usual and even as he was sitting in front of the fire with a book he felt something was missing. England had brought Australia, New Zealand and Canada along (He assumed Canada was only there to supervise the younger ones) and they were all currently playing in the snow, he heard the shrieks of childlike pleasure coming from Jack's very strong vocal chords as he was probably chased about in the snow by Zee, he had full clearance to go, Gilbert had let him do so but he knew he was sickly.
Running made his legs and chest hurt so bad, and the cold just made it worse, he loved snow so much, but it made him feel just terrible afterwards, his brother had said that many nations started out sickly, but the way that he seemed to be so scared for him whenever he slept for a bit too long confirmed the fears that he thought he may die at any time. He was an independent nation, the great german empire, but here he was being upstaged by a handful of colonies! None of them were nations in their own right, weans of the British household, and here they were far stronger than him, romping around in the snow like it was nothing.
He pointedly ignored the fact that Canada had technically been a kingdom for longer than his brother, and the fact that Jack and Zee were both nearing 100 at this point. Still, even with a rather noticeable age disadvantage he did look to be of similar age as the two, and was in fact slightly taller than Jack. However, he avoided pointing that out as he had a killer left hook, one which he experienced once when being picky about the way New Zealand was playing with his blocks.
You had to arrange them into colour order or that was wrong, and she was making a bird (?) out of them, so he yelled at her, and he then got punched in the face. Once again he knew Jack was strong but didn't think he was that strong, honestly that boy was something else, Zee slapped him too and left him thoroughly concerned, and that was 10-odd years ago and he kept avoiding the two since then.
He was corralled outside by his brother who said he had some very important discussions to do with England, they probably wouldn't get anything done and keep looking at each other in that weird way that Austria looked at Hungary and Vice vera, he didn't exactly understand what that look meant but it was weird and seemed to be a universal thing that he did not understand, yet another thing to add to that already extremely long mental list. Going outside, bundled up well in boots and whatnot did clear his head marginally, but such relief was short-lived as his skin froze and his lips cracked almost immediately, but he wasn't coughing yet so that was good.
He could hear the sounds of children yelling not too far away and tromped through the snow as fast as he could without hurting, the snow thick and powdery under his feet, the sky a steely grey a little too dark for 2 o clock, finally reaching along to where the other three were, well at least to some proximity, he wasn't exactly sure what was happening, Canada was yelling at a tree, more yelling up a tree, New Zealand seemed to be laughing her head off, face pink and Jack was no where to be seen.
Ah.
He was in the tree.
Somehow managing to climb up a tree in midwinter, a feat far beyond Ludwig's imagination or comprehension, but a lot of things about Jack was like that, so he just added that image to his worldview from his distance, hoping not to be seen, but from his vantage point in the tree Jack could see all and yelled.
"OI MATE WHAT YA DOING DOWN THERE?"
Ludwig froze for a second, mentally, he was already close enough to that state physically as it was, and with as much might as he could muster he yelled "NOTHING." It wasn't very loud, and certainly not Jack-level loud but it was loud enough for him to hear, and scramble off the tree much like a squirrel and run up to him.
"You finally decided to join us, got bored of being inside?"
Ludwig was still quite frozen in his brain and took a bit of a while to react. "...Ja, sorry I wanted to see what you were doing, that is all. I will leave now."
"You don't have to?" That was New Zealand, who had very suddenly appeared next to him, startling him in no small amount, which prompted a rather mild coughing fit due to him choking on his own saliva, which was hence interrupted by Jack throwing a snowball at his head, landing squarely on his left ear.
And at that moment he forgot that he was quite fragile, and got swept up in a childish wave of adrenaline and chased after Jack, somehow managing to knock him over by ramming his full body into him at a pretty high speed, both ending up upended in the snow, and then New Zealand dropped an armful of snow on them, pinning them down for slightly longer.
Thoroughly soaked, half frozen and tired, Ludwig was having the time of his life, usually ghastly pale face flushed with a healthy colour for the first time in a long time as he laughed, running away from a surprisingly fast New Zealand, only to be stopped by a violent coughing fit.
Of course, this was too good to last, and he nearly collapsed right then and there due to the sheer severity of these coughs, Canada helped him inside with his concerned younger siblings in tow, and placed him in front of the large fire in the kitchen, and politely asked the cook for some warm milk in the best German he could muster, giving a cup to each of his siblings and Ludwig, drinking some himself and feeling the frost thawing from his insides, filling him with a nice content feeling.
He disappeared upstairs for a bit, probably to tell Herr Belichmidt about the incident, Ludwig was completely exhausted, his small store of energy had been completely depleted and the warm milk lulled him into a drowsy, sleep adjacent state, unknowingly leaning onto Jacks shoulder as he slept, Matt arrived a little while later, having witnessed an incredibly awkward scene that he stored mentally for further analysis, with England and Prussia in tow, England looked at Australia and the odd stillness he was exhibiting, and then he saw the juvenile nation of Germany leaning against him, sleeping soundly, as well as Zee, who had conked it not far after Germany.
Both were using him like a heat pack, Prussia pricked up Germany and laid him down in his room, and England was to wake up New Zealand before his better judgement said otherwise and laid her out on the sofa in the library, with the slowly tiring Australia on the foot of it, slowly drifting off to sleep too.
So quiet and calm, truly a blessing from above, the atmosphere soft and comforting, like a well-worn blanket, with the hearth fire merrily crackling, castings its light unto the slowly dimming room.

In December 1975, a year and a half after my visit, Michael spent a month in Hungary—part of the time in Budapest and part in Debrecen with me. We spent Christmas together. He got along splendidly with my grandmother. Using an aluminum comb, she attempted to straighten out his unruly hair; these occasions made Michael radiant with happiness. One morning he set out on a walk. It was late when he returned, with mud all over his boots and clothes. He was carrying a map of Hajdú-Bihar county that he had found at an antiquarian bookstore back in England. It dated from before the First World War. Michael enthusiastically related how, though he had found none of the old roads, he nonetheless followed the indications on the map. He trudged through fields soaked by rain and snow, and at one farmhouse a watchdog nearly attacked him. He had also come upon Soviet army barracks surrounded by barbed wire that he had to walk around. I was petrified. Had the Russians stopped him and asked for identification, how would I have explained my English guest arriving, on a December evening, at a military base in the middle of the countryside? Sitting at the kitchen table, Michael could not understand my distress and laughed, eating heaps of the poppy-seed noodles that he tasted in Hungary for the first time in his life. I gaped in disbelief at all that food disappearing into that skinny body.

which one of my knives should i base my next tattoo on
first: since its on my keyring i take it with me everywhere, its not visually that interesting but its reliable and i genuinely use it daily
second: my great grandpa used to make knives and he gave this to me as a kid to keep in my boot at all times just in case so i do keep it in my boot at all times. the handle is very fun
third: i think this is from like a manicure set or smth but my grandma gave it to me bc she knows i like knives. its v small
fourth: my great grandpa also made this! its a little stuck and hard to open so i dont use it a lot but its important to me
fifth: arguably the most visually interesting but also categorically unusable the handle came apart almost instantly so its kind of just on my shelf for aesthetics
sixth: great grandpa also made this, tt has kind of a weird handle but its a good knife. i shld use it more often than i do
seventh: also a swiss army knife but the blade is longer than you can legally carry in hungary so i dont use it really. also i dont think it looks that cool
eighth: i got this at decathlon bc it was half off but honestly while its very sharp the handle is clunky to use and its just not very good for its intended purpose (which is camping) id much rather take a smaller blade thats actually easier to open and fits in my hand comfortably. dont buy this knife

Aperçu of the Week:
"Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money."
(Cree Indian proverb)
Bad News of the Week:
This year, 100,000 square kilometers of forest have already burned in Canada, already a record. That's the area of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg combined - and the season isn't over yet, with the heat wave in North America just reaching its first peak this week. Elsewhere on the planet, things are hardly better. Last weekend, for example, more than 4,000 people had to be evacuated on the Canary Island of La Palma. This weekend, there are already 30,000 on the Greek island of Rhodes. And even in Germany, there hasn't been a single day since the overly dry spring when there hasn't been a fire somewhere.
In many respects, a forest fire is a combination of bad news: Lots of fine dust emissions are produced, and carbon dioxide bound in the trees is released. The respective biotope of fauna and flora is destroyed, the dead plants can neither absorb CO2 nor produce oxygen. Enormous heat is generated, at the same time cooling storage capacity on the ground and water in (at least) the upper layers of the earth is lost. All very bad. The fact that human lives are also endangered and houses and goods burn down seems almost irrelevant.
Northern Italy has experienced the other extreme in recent days: there were such violent hailstorms that ice floes drifted through the streets in the cold water. In Italy! In July! I almost wish that soon there will be an idiot sitting in front of me in the morning commuter train, who babbles some nonsense that there is no man-made climate change. Then I can at least explicitly (and acoustically!) vent my frustration about all those who are just too comfortable to acknowledge the changed necessities. Which we can only counter with fundamental changes in our everyday behavior. And I'm also talking to myself here...
Good News of the Week:
You can only elect your representatives every few years. For the rest of the time, the only thing left for the people to do is to voice their opinions loudly in the streets. Therefore, the freedom of demonstration is a high good of all democracies. In the last few days, there have been fine examples here of the self-confident appearance of citizens against the state when they perceive it to be encroaching.
First in Hungary. In the capital Budapest, 35,000 people took to the streets against Viktor Orban's anti-queer policies. The background was a fine imposed on a bookstore because a book with the most innocuous LGBTQ+ theme ever - two teenage boys falling in love - was offered for sale without "safety measures." At the same time, broad solidarity was visible at the protest march, for example, with the participation of the US ambassador.
Side note: the EU already took Hungary to the European Court of Justice last year over these very rules. So Orban's stone age conservative Fidesz party is being heckled at the moment. From above and below, so to speak. In a rare unison of the supposedly unworldly spaceship Brussels and boots on the ground. On a topic that is far less shrill and pink than it may seem to the Hungarian population in the countryside. Because it is about nothing less than civil rights and freedom.
Meanwhile, Israel is concerned with another great good: an independent judiciary and a functioning separation of powers. For months now, tens of thousands of Israelis, sometimes more than 150,000, have been taking to the streets to prevent the right-wing Netanyahu government's plan to curtail the powers of the Supreme Court. For a free pass for the executive branch. Rightly, this is seen by much of the population as a repudiation of democracy. Which can also amount to a breach of the dam. But the pressure of the (electoral) people has brought nothing: Today the Knesset voted in favor of a core piece of the "judicial reform." Oh boy...
Personal happy moment of the week:
I always thought I couldn't sing. And that's why I regularly refrain from singing along with passionate fervor when a song is playing that I like and whose chorus I know. Now we were with friends after a hike on Saturday in the Isarauen at an Italian restaurant. And were lucky to get the last table in the garden. Why the rush? A look at the hung posters told us: "Michele Barotta live" was announced. With his "Celentano show" and "1,000 world hits in 7 languages". And then he started: a man in his seventies with a brittle voice, no sense of rhythm and a lack of certainty in his lyrics. Accompanied by a karaoke system and his own guitar playing. Okay, we had fun. And applauded. Several ladies also jumped up and danced with visible pleasure. Apparently my standards are wrong. So I can sing after all. And will have completely unexpected career prospects at an advanced age. Watch out for Bo "La voce" Celentano!
I couldn't care less...
...about the state-imposed morality in Iran. Since last week, the so-called "morality police" is on duty again and controls primarily the observance of the headscarf obligation with women. The regime has apparently learned nothing from the violent death of the Kurdish woman Jina Mahsa Amini in the custody of this "police" last fall and the protests that followed: a new law with harsher penalties is to be passed shortly. Rarely is it so obvious that democracy in a state exists only on paper.
As I write this...
...I'm coming home from the train station. By bike. In the rain. Okay: light rain. With my new backpack, which my daughter gave me. And it's rainproof. Good. And thank you!
Post Scriptum
Tech giants Microsoft, Google, Meta, Amazon and others are committing to responsible use of artificial intelligence in the US. Risk assessments, for example, are intended to curb misinformation and strengthen the security of its use. A set of rules is also to be created that will enable consumers to recognize images or texts created with AI as such. On the one hand, this is a kind of anticipatory obedience, since the European Union (with some 450 million well-off citizens, a market no one wants to do without) has already threatened to intervene regulatively if there is no convincing industry code. On the other hand - or maybe I'm just dreaming of a better world - this could indicate a proactive assumption of responsibility. Pandora's box and all that. Let's see...

more questions abt hells bells … what was the first album each member bought? wht kind of shoes do they wear? r any of thm “spiritual”? who leaves smelly socks in the van? worst tour memento purchase? roadtrip snack liz cant live without? any bands they hated (parasocially)? wht were their favorite bands?
What was the first album each member bought?
Liz: Visual Lies by Lizzy Borden (that's also where she took her stage name from)
Jack: Bella Donna by Stevie Nicks (he grew up on Fleetwood Mac and she was one of his first childhood crushes when he was 8)
Phil: 1984 by Van Halen (Hot for Teacher made him pick up the drums)
Antonio: Blood on Ice by Bathory (he had a Norse mythology phase back then and loved the vibes of this concept album)
What kind of shoes do they wear?
Mostly boots for every day wear. Phil wears sneakers because they're more comfortable when drumming. Antonio wears Doc Martens. Liz likes to wear block heel shoes for concerts but finds them too annoying to walk around in all day when they're exploring the places they visit so she goes for boots or sneakers then. Jack loves his pair of ratty cowboy boots with spurs (which he likes to use for kinky purposes as well)
Are any of them “spiritual”?
None of them really, but Liz regularly reads all their horoscopes out loud and the guys don't believe in it at all, but when something happens that fits the weekly horoscope, she insists that she told them so
Who leaves smelly socks in the van?
Jack because he deems them "fresh enough to wear again" which is totally not the case. Antonio has seen worse with former roommates and Phil is too phlegmatic or drunk to care, so Liz is the only one who's bothered by it because it's her van and she hates playing mom and washing the socks for him
Worst tour memento purchase?
At some shady thrift shop in Hungary, they bought a Russian doll and only later discovered that instead of multiple smaller dolls there was just a dildo inside. Still a good buy even if it's not in use and just decoration
Roadtrip snack Liz can't live without?
Nic nacs, those peanuts in pastry crust! Are they a thing outside of Germany/Austria/Italy? Liz is German so whatever lol
Any bands they hated (parasocially)?
Liz hates Slipknot. She doesn't like nu metal in general because of the hip hop elements and samples plus she hates Corey Taylor's guts and the band's appearance
Jack hates Queen simply because in England everyone was all over them and some of their songs were constantly playing on the radio or they were on TV and it annoyed the shit out of him. He jokingly says that's one of the reasons he ran away to avoid giving people the actual reason
Phil is really not into KISS. He does like I Was Made For Lovin' You and Rock And Roll All Nite (albeit the Poison cover more), but other than that they're just image and drama with an overall disappointing discography for a band with that name and makeup
Antonio hates AC/DC because he thinks all their songs sound the same and are kinda boring and they're not as good in his opinion as everyone says. The only one he likes is Whole Lotta Rosie
What were their favorite bands?
They all have so many favourite bands that there isn't "the one" but
Liz: Vain
Jack: Iron Maiden
Phil: Guns N' Roses
Antonio: Arch Enemy (he's the one who listens to the heaviest music out of them all which is why the guitar parts have a more death influence but still subtle enough to blend in with the style of music they play)
#thank youuuuu pls keep asking more when you come up with something#ask#zigmentality#barbi#devil's bells

What is an illustration essay plan footnotes?
For this essay, is better if I explain my own experiences of illustration after the books and reflections of my tutors. I had explored in my course that maybe it's too early to begin with my own subjects to make an essay, but I believe it is better to research my own course. It's better to understand, especially if I am interested in Studio Ghibli to know illustration, Mangas and animation differences and qualities of work. I had been began with art and design the books I had being learned illustrations don't counted as art but better to learn fine art and art and design or visual art because is an impacted as an illustrator career to begin but I have to be watch to not to compare with graphic design if I compeer with illustration with graphic design it won't make senses because The graphic being specific as it seems don't using visuals but using similar tools like illustration. For Illustrations Has many alterations the child books and comics or Mangas. I wanted to being try booth of the subject just like Miyazaki did he has shared on his animation and Mangas child based and his countries' histories being opened up He also knows how to make me speechless or stunned with his art work and sound tracks expressions( I will be write about him on my next essay's just I need some connections with the subject I do and I have to know why I chosen this subject.
I always liked Wine the Phoo because this was my childhood but long as I searched up the classic real classic part was ditched the Disney disappointments.
If I could go back to my child hood I would be learn classic British illustrations because
I explored Peter Rabbit, Paddington, Hungry Caterpillar and Wine the Phoo. In my country also has classic illustration I had grown up called pompom tails, folk tails in Hungary, Green Rabbit.
I had being watched Grimm Fairy Japanese versions in my country.
I also fascinated of the little prince.
For Mangas or animation I have a list:
Vampire knight
Mermaid melody
Sailor Moon
Kyou Koi Wa hajimemasithu
Kaito Kamikaze Jeana
Kami sama Hajime Ashita
I would love to say I read Naruto , Death Note, Bleach or my hero academy or demon slayer but does mangas was sold out quickly and online manga I don't find or I find lazy of myself to search.
Animation I watched Cartoon network, marvel, animax, Jetix and the Fox kids.
Bakugan
W.I.T.C.H
Jin Jan Jo
Oban Battle of star
Star wars rebelled
Star wars clown wars
I also inspired by Pixar and Dreamwork
Because pixar and dream works wont necessary using music or twisting out things it was realism based on it could be funny and sad at the same time concepted of life time and tinny cultural history dragged in.
MY favorite Pixar movies:
Up
walle
InsideOut
Toys story
Monster university
Finding nemo/ Finding dory
Red panda
Incredibles
Your friend rat/ratatouille
Bao/short film
Cars 1
This animation from Pixar is the one it had being raised me up just like the Gibling studio and motivated me to learn illustration and novel writing. this animation made me learn how to understand emotions- colours some communications with parents with their Childrens. Puberty maybe obvious but this is the language I prefer to communicating with my novels and illustrations. Reach the Pixar's and dreamwork more read books or wiki pedia just like Miyazaki and Ghibling studios!
Dreamworks
Kung fu panda
Shrek
Puss boots
Mega mind
Shark tales
Madagascar
Madagascar Pingues
Rise of the guards
Trolls
Boss baby
How to train your dragons
Croods
Flushed away
Monster vs aliens
The Flushed away is my first movie and cinema in my life it meant something new perspectives talking animals why? the triangle cone faces and the tooths I cannot stop myself to think how often they chewing something.
Nickelodeon:
SpongeBob square pants
Full house
Danny phantom
Teen mutant turtle
Hej Arnould
