...look, I'd tell you it was a desperate burning need to get donations in for lofty survival purposes, but the reality is more that I need to ship orders, and I need all the simple personal crap like meds, conditioner, and nicotine. I wouldn't say no to being able to maybe grab myself a birthday present for myself off my wishlist. But that's more for my actual birthday in three weeks.

More complaining to complain while I finish up editing this bookcover. Lack of sunlight today has left me just low energy and moody.

There are these really heavy hardbooks of old classics; Alice in Wonderland, Little Women, 1001 Nights, Wizard of OZ, etc etc. They're honestly quite beautiful with metallic accents and also very expensive, and I'll be honest and say I'm an uncultured swine (lol) with no interest in owning these books, but yeah- Those hard covers are just such a joy to look at and even within themselves they have a "mini-maximalism" look to them. Very elaborate, but also simple and to the point? In the same shop, right next to them is a section with very boring minimalist book covers. You just have to imagine, these very elaborate heavy looking bookcovers that could comfortably fit into your local friends gothic library, and next to them in the store are extreme minimalis hardcover books with eg a cover that's half red on top, sky blue bottom, with name of the author and book in bright yellow and orange. I could barely read the title it was so unpleasant. Though to be fair, another section further there are some East Asian novels with really nice character art of the actual relevant characters on the cover with lovely detail, and another section over you have some pretty looking books by smaller authors. I wonder if those bitterly bright looking minimalist books are more in fashion with a certain crowd. Or I could imagine that maybe more elaborate covers are present for certain smaller publishers and translations, while those that churn out books might prefer a minimalist palette since it's cheaper. Though I have no idea. Eitherway I'm definitely a person who reads with the eye, haha, and half the battle as to winning those eyes are some lovely covers I can swoon over, and don't give me eye strain.

I think that sometimes, for big, big names, they like to just highlight the author name and not spend much cover real estate on other things.

There’s a way to go about this

But how?

I will tell you, by experience

To trigger a laugh or two

For readers who believe

“Laughter is the best medicine”

and so may need a dose or two of it

to get out from the siege of slumber

and from the plague of solemnity

You may, occasionally, discover

I am merely tickling your funny bone

by showing you the other side of reality

and at the same time, revealing to you

the reality of your other side

there are two faces

one for someone, one for me

allen:

it wasn’t at all hard falling in love with you. dense fits allen rather well, despite his musical, prodigal genius, and it is perhaps the inkling of fire you set ablaze in his heart with a simple look that gets him thinking. it was not normal to stare at a friends’ lips and wonder how they felt on yours, nor was it normal to dream of them besides you, holding or hugging or other breathlessly intimate things reserved for lovers — it was then allen knew, like he’d always known something inside pointed him straight to you.

dense and dense make not one aware, and it is to allen’s detriment that he can’t seem to signal to you his flaring up of adoration. there is an increase of time spent just with you, away from his desk and melodies. if it isn’t enough, then soon you’ll find written scraps of poems in sweater pockets and under bookcovers, simple verses inked with love and longing. allen is nervous when you confront him, just so that he blurts out a confession right then and there, unmistakable, touching true your heart.

anne:

it was like a click into place, this realization of love. anne is not the type to fawn or obsess, but lately they’ve felt this way over you. it’s a telltale sign of his wanting to be more, more than friends he so cherishes — and a small part of him is afraid. they valve the friendship between you both more than anything. but they knew it was not right for them to dream of kisses or cuddles whilst you stayed oblivious, feeling as if they were disrespecting your very being with their selfish, secret wishes. despite their fear, they wished to speak freely of their love for you, hoping for the best.

for all your smarts, your wit, you just can’t seem to understand that anne is ardently, deliberately, flirting mad any chance he gets. they could be attached to your hip, brushing lips over your ear when they joke, or patting down invisible wrinkles on your cardigan, to absolutely no avail. none of their usual hosting tricks are working. it is then that anne decides — if this will move any inch towards the future, he must step up to the plate. a fateful night, he asks upfront, no fear or regrets, “may i kiss you?” and watches the way your pretty face lights up in surprise, unable to believe your ears or eyes.

hajun:

it was a denial of the truth, the fault of the unknown, what love had once meant to him. hajun isn’t grandly romantic, isn’t one to share his true feelings even at the cost of his heart. it is perhaps why he begins avoiding you the second his heart beats a bit too loud when you hug him, your touches once comforting now setting his skin to fire. your friendship was perfect, perfectly fine without a foolish, one-sided attraction he knew would amount to nothing. it would pass, he thought, nothing more than a schoolboy crush. deep down, he thought, it was the flattest lie he’d ever told himself to believe.

you notice his avoidance, not his love. intelligent of mind, but lacking in awareness, your constant texts and calls and messages of sweet consideration only adds to his yearning, his hurting. hajun can hardly bring himself to deny you if it meant earning the pleasure of your smiles, but even then, he hates how easily you overtake his senses, how easily his adoration goes over your head. it takes a hand on your arm, pulling you to a full stop, to finally get you to look back and see him. see the way you affect him, how the simple contact makes him weak. how it makes him whisper his truth into the open air, into your blooming heart.
