Miq'tens
Miq'tens. Someone coined the term and it stuck in my head. Do boy Miq'tens even exist? Female Miqo'te and Male Miqo'te
Miqo'te girl in Mor Dhona was involved with Doman Adventurers Club during their leaving questline. There after she just heads back to her ledge.
The evil creature of whimsy known as Khloe. May the stories please you to stick those stickers in a proper bingo line.
T'kebbe. As an EW joiner by the time I met her, she only spawns near Khloe at times or is part of Moonfire Faire with the Aliapoh sisters. Does Faux Commander affects her spawning rate? I hadn't seen her lately.
There's a Sharlayan Miq'ten looking for her runaway doll. Help her and she'll give you tidbits about Moenbryda and Urianger
Except for one who's a Moonfire Faire Miq'ten with her older brother. I don't recall if there are more or boys.
Okay granted I don't go down to this area much. But she's by the fountain so. Are these the kids Zhloe was taking care of?

A Gay Little Cutscene
I just finished ranking up for Island Sanctuary and was rewarded with a gay little cutscene and escort quest and in honor of Pride Month, I decided to record it here for prosperity. First, we are expected to believe that Tartaru, Master Manipulator, I mean planner, "double booked" the Ishgardian and Lominsan delegates to visit your island. If you paid even a lick of attention to Endwalker, you already know exactly where this is going.
The fighting (flirting) starts almost immediately, and it would almost be believable if the very next thing to occur wasn't;
Emmanellian, honey... literally no one is buying that your spare spares beach attire just maaaaagically happens to fit Sicard perfectly. This man is 6-8 inches shorter than you and that shirt and those shorts are hemmed for a gent of exactly his size.
Let's not mention to adorable little SYNCRONIZED DANCE MOVES y'all busted out for "fun."
Honoroit takes this opportunity to ditch us in favour of learning some of Tartaru's manipulation *cough* superior planning skills. (Are we still pretending she double booked by accident? No? Good!)
So now it's time for a stroll around the Island Sanctuary with two fellows who are determinedly not flirting with each other. It was wholly an accident they arrived together. A complete coincidence that Emmanellian's spare clothing fits Sicard perfect. And this is absolutely sight seeing your improvements to the island and NOT a romantic stroll.
Not flirting.
Seriously. So much not flirting.
RIGHT UP UNTIL THEY STOP PLAY FIGHTING AND START FLIRTING FOR REAL REAL.
Sicard drops what the fanfic community would politely a term "a moment of uncharacteristic vulnerability" (tm)
If your guess here is that Emmanellian is absolutely delighted by this you'd be 100% correct. Well done, have a mimosa.
The Warrior of Light, stating the obvious as usual;
To which there is a lot of pouting BUT NOT A LOT OF DENYING, FELLOWS!
It's at this moment in time that Dainty realizes she's going to end up officiating another wedding...
Since they are already on her private island, may as well scope out ceremony locations!
Sicard is already planning the reception.

I had to finish some pre-exam homework today and then stomach ache was killing me so I wasn't able to complete Journey Retold entry today, sorry ;w; I will compensate with some fun trivia for my WoLs because I feel like doing it.
Pi Peataan
Pi is Sharlayan by birth but he doesn't remember much of his early childhood here because he was very little;
Pi's birthname is Piyu Lazuyu;
He is 97 cm tall (postEW);
He is a good swimmer;
He plays a flute (picks it up preSB and gets better at it during ShB);
He likes to keep his diary (in addition to sending the letters to his family that usually recount everything that happened within a week);
He also scribbles small drawings at the sides of his letters and sometimes diary pages. Not nearly as good as Alphinaud at art, but they are not an eyesore either;
Pi likes citrus fruits, specifically the oranges;
His favorite flower is a dandelion and his favorite bird is a doman magpie;
Pi wore a few different hats over the course of his journeys (I will probably make a funny post about the hats he officially wore in the story itself tomorrow).
Haru Hataori
Haru looks almost the same as his mom (horn type, tail type, eyes (partially)) and he only got the skin color from his father;
His mom expected him in Spring and wanted to name him Haru;
He is 203 cm tall;
Haru has heterochromia;
He was taught to sew since he was 6, and despite of mainly being a fighter, he is actually great at making clothes;
He was growing pretty much unsupervised which resulted in him growing up to be the dork everyone knows him as now;
That also resulted in him getting a book about the brave Ishgardian Dragoons which inspired him to pursue the craft;
Haru started to dye his hair and do makeup in his teens;
His family is quite rich and thus he has bad spending habits;
He can draw patterns pretty well but he is awful at drawing people and animals;
He is very bad at wistanding cold (even if he says otherwise);
He wore new clothes designed by his father every time He met Pi from ARR to SB. He stopped doing that after he journeyed to Eorzea on his own near the end of SB;
Haru likes sweets and spicy food but he doesn't overindulge in them and most of his meals are actually quite healty;
His favorite flower is a sakura flower and he carries around a sown trinket shaped like one everywhere he goes;
His favorite animal is a chocobo. He absolutely adores the horsebirds, especially his girl Chyunchyun :)
Also did you know that his chocobo laid eggs after Endwalker---

It did upset Alphinaud and Alisaie somewhat to learn, but they'd mostly accepted (or rather could do nothing about) Mordred's smouldering hatred for imperial Garlemald. So much that it disinterested him from assisting the survivors of that empire.
But Mordred being who he was, there was no amount of personal grudge and disgust that could justify his spurning an entire people to struggle and starve. So he handed Alphinaud a thick book with detailed records from the botanists of Idyllshire about cold-resistant crops. And when he'd bullied Cid and Nero into revamping the leftover magitek in Doma into improved irrigation systems for Namai, Mordred shared the blueprints with Maxima and Lucia.
Not that the Garleans didn't know he hated them, despite the Eorzeans' best effort. His general demeanor whenever he was in their land was enough, and even Jullus mentioned it to him during the 6.x patches when they were back around that part.
And what Mordred told him was, "I could wash the snowfields with all of your blood and your children's blood for three generations, and it will still not be enough to pay back what you've taken from us."
You could hear a pin drop in that station.
But what Mordred said next was, "We are resolved to live on, bearing the scars of what your occupation and depravity have done to us. So, too, will you live with the burden of what your forefathers have done. As their beneficiaries and their progeny...but as your own people too, we hope. We will not forsake you. For all that had been done to me and mine at the hands of your conquest, you too are a part of this star. There is a duty to each other as neighbors, and I will honor it."
And then he fucked off into the blue yonder and hadn't been back since then.
People in Garlemald still...asked Alphinaud and Alisaie about Mordred Surana, sometimes. Just to be reassured that he meant what he said and maybe he wasn't that important, because to some of them what he said was more humiliating than if he'd just called them all trash and want them to die. If he did, they could wish the same on him and dust their hands of this whole thing, after all.
Instead, because Mordred had said what he did, his resolve was one more charity being lavished on Garlemald. Worse, he used the extremely loaded words in their military culture -- duty, and honor. And that stung, because in choosing to display his, he'd cast theirs down. Some scoffed at it. What was the honor of a savage worth, they said. But everyone else around them remembered that Mordred had been one of the healers in the Eorzean brigade, and he'd gone and fetched lost family relics for more than one person from the ruins of their capital because they asked.
Jullus, for his part... He honestly had no idea how to feel. Mordred had minimal interaction with him, since it was Theodore who went with the twins to negotiate back during Endwalker. He just thought this was a guy who had an obvious chip on his shoulder, not that he was the "real" Warrior of Light.
He asked Alphinaud and Alisaie if what Mordred said was true of the provinces, since he never went there himself. And they said... Well. Yes.
He might want to talk to Mordred again, but the guy hadn't been back for months now. And by this point the twins had left, too, and Garlemald was kind of on their own. Perhaps they might never meet again. Would that not be a relief? Why did it not feel like that?

9 people you'd like to get to know better
thanks for the tag, @greencrusader13 !
Last song: Heroes Forge Ahead (FF14: Endwalker soundtrack. first 6:22 minutes of this video)
Favorite color: Honestly, varies every day. Right now, I'm feeling a peacock blue, or turquoise.
Currently watching: Dunmeshi and Bad Batch, though I'm not into TV series like I used to be. I often forget to watch the latest episodes.
Sweet/Savory/Spicy: It used to be sweet, but in the past year or so, my taste buds have refused to accept spicy foods. I've even had to forgo some of my favorite chips flavors (goodbye, Lays magic masala. You were there for me when no one else was). I think I've lost my Indian badge. I'm more of a cheese, corn, paneer, and mushroom guy now. Is that 'savory'?
Relationship status: Single.
Current Obsession: My fanfic series, the Records of Heroes Past. It follows the PC cast of Star Wars: the Old Republic, plus additional OCs I added in. It retells the stories, and expands on them. I'm currently at Book 5: Limbo, which focuses on Lana Beniko during the 5 year timeskip after KOTFE Chapter 1. I've put my heart and soul into that garbage, and I can't stop now. Once it's done, I might quit everything.
Last thing I googled: Koth Melan. He's a character from Shadows of the Empire; a Bothan spymaster who is instrumental in securing the Death Star II intel for the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
That's it, I'm done. Tagging @the-sith-in-the-sky-with-diamond @captainderyn @elveny @pineaberry @nusaran @sheyshen @kunstpause @deadpoet117

1 and 9 for fiver!
[oc asks]
1. How did you choose their name?
i believe i gave him his forest name first and then the city/nickname of Fiver came later when i realized that viera often had two names. his forest name Atli Rehw-dvre i chose because viera first names are sort of Icelandic in nature, so Atli i got from fantasynamegenerator's Icelandic name generator. i just liked the way it sounded. his surname started as Dei-Ijla which i chose randomly from the list of Rava surnames, but eventually they released lore about male specific naming conventions (because male viera were only added with endwalker, so their lore wasn't out when i started playing) and i used a fantasia to change his name when i learned the male names and meanings. they're given a surname based on their affinity with its meaning and have a sort of supersition about all 12 names needing to be used within the wood-warder ranks at the same time to ensure the forest's safety, based on balancing the 6 celestial elements with the 6 worldly elements. Rehw-dvre is associated with the worldly realm and the element of lightning. worldly lightning means arrow, so i chose that one since he's a bard. i like to pretend he earned that name fairly young, maybe the last Rehw-dvre got killed and they needed a new one and Atli was an archery prodigy. Fiver, on the other hand, is his city name, which is something a lot of viera who leave their forest take as a way to part themselves from their culture, since leaving the forest is exile. i chose Fiver because the viera are rabbit people and Fiver is my favorite character from Watership Down, a book about rabbits. i later decided that Fiver chose this name because it was a childhood nickname given to him by his sisters, as he was the youngest of five children. he didn't even think of coming up with a city name when he left until someone asked him his name and he panicked and Fiver was the first thing that came to mind.
9. If your character could have handed their role in the plot to someone else, would they have?
you know... he would probably say he would, but in reality he has too much of a sense of duty and knows he's the only one that could play his role. and despite all the terrible traumatic things that have happened to him, there has also been so much joy and growth that he wouldn't hand any of it off.

A sampling of Endwalker screencaps for Varian
Top to bottom, left to right:
1.) "I'm at the ass-end of the universe and all my friends are dead" PTSD stare
2.) "It's fine it's fine they specifically said not to bring them back with the creation magic here but there's gotta be a work around there's bound to be something it's gonna be fine it's fine I'll think of something" Denial phase of grief actually paying off for once
3.) Needs an old-school comic book sound effect, like "BIFF!"
4.) Even when things are better, sometimes you just gotta stare at your tea and dissociate
5.) I just thought this was a nice picture of Varian
6.) Dinner with my favorites the littles
7.) "Hi, everybody! Glad you're not dead. Anymore. I'm sure that didn't do any long-term psychological damage on top of the time we thought everyone was dead in Ul'dah or the time you all got your souls dragged from your bodies or-"

Writer's Game: First Sentences
Rules: post the first sentence of your last ten fics. If you haven't written ten fics, share as many first-sentences as you have.
Tagged by @elveny! ♥️
Tagging: @driftward @mintibunny @yzeltia @scrollsfromarebornrealm @chysgoda @punchelf @gunbun @dragons-bones @theepicreboot @thebmatt @rinzukodas @phaedra-mero @eremiss @anomaliewrites @raelly-writing and whoever else would like to (also y'all should check these folks out).
Many of these are shippy nonsense, as my pairing sparks joy. I’ve been writing a lot of drabbles and microfics lately, though some things I’d only count as captions more than fics.
I seem to like shorter, snappy openers (especially compared to many of my longer sentences in a given fic), often with or entirely a little dialogue.
1 “Bearing Sins of the Past”, the current (as of 3/13/23) fic in progress on Ao3.
“You say Ser Alberic is missing?” the old lady knight asked as Aeryn warmed herself by the fire.
2 “A Little Lady’s Realization” a microfic about dresses and faith.
*Sigh* “I suppose my ‘princess’ must insist on keeping this new dress as well?”
3 “Linkpearls” a Year of the OTP prompt response.
When Aeryn answered the chiming linkpearl, Thancred’s familiar voice crackled on the other side of the line. “I received your letter.”
4 “Dual Perspectives” also a Year of the OTP prompt response. This line appears first in both sections.
Whenever I look at you, I see Light and Hope.
5 “Misunderstanding” a little pre-Endwalker culture clash.
“Everything all right?” Thancred asked, waiting a bit further along the trail as Estinien and Aeryn caught up.
6 An untitled blurb about languages I should clean up and move from Tumblr to Ao3.
Nanamo had a headache.
7 “Northern Lights” another drabble, about fashion in cold weather
“These northern lights are still impressive after everything.”
8 “This Home Wrested Forth” from the Dark Knight zine, Sidurgu’s 2nd person POV.
Your clan fled the Empire, crossing Ilsabard in search of homelike climes.
9 “Scholarly” a prompt response for Roevember 2022, Felina of the Night’s Blessed reminiscing.
While many important books had been taken to the Crystarium, or copied for inclusion to the Cabinet of Curiosity, a good number of tomes yet remained in the Bookman’s Shelves, a hidden and hard to reach library of history and magical theories.
10 “Mountain” also from Roevember 2022, Felina and Runar at the base of Mt Gulg.
The waiting was the worst part.
Bonus: Current first couple lines of that long promised Shadowbringers Thancred WIP...
“Let expanse contract—Eon become instant! Throw wide the gates that we may pass!”
One moment Thancred was presenting his proposal to the assembled Alliance leaders and his colleagues, the Admiral expressing her approval which was convincing the rest. The next moment, he was clutching his head in agony, hearing as if from a great distance his fellow Scions crying out, while the others called to them in confusion.

Miqo'te are and Miqo'te do
Would Hrothgals come and fantasia over you? Or wiggle your ears and tail, a Miqo’te stay? When you’re Gridanian, Archer and Adder There are more females, fuzzy memory this be based Same thing with MenMiq, some are post-EW interactions When this become a Jellicle song?
Looking back before Dawntrail hits. Is long with a mix of timeline, post-EW and NG+ pics. If you don’t see them, either I don’t have pics or hadn’t met/unlock them or forgot.
Event Miqo'te and the four/five(?) Miq'ttens are left out of this. Miq'tten would get their own piece for lols.
ARR
Most if not all the Miqo'te women are belong to ARR and are in Gridania and Limsa. Does Ul'Dah see them as being closer to beasts? What about Hrothgar?
A Realm Reborn
Leih Aliapoh was Hylnyan’s mentor and everything was Moon Miqo’te from here. There’s at least two more Miqo’te hanging around the guild. Her Archer quest is linked to Pawah Mujuuk of the Coeurlclaws
Miah Molkot, Took a bit of her lore for Hylnyan since they both from North Shrouds. Skirmishes with the birdmen and all. Do her quest line(Hostages of Fortune), she’s a birding cat like Hylnyan.
Do Delivery Moogle quest, The Past Is a Story We Never Tell is about the Lizeh sisters and Coeurl Claw women and the way they are treated. It triggers a Coeurl King fight (FATE not FATE?). I don’t have the Coeurlclaw women pics. Was still new and the notion of timelines diversion from Meteor (aka follow cinematic jobs) and duty trust addon accidental gaslighting hadn’t hit me yet.
Una Tayuun and here I was thinking we might have a quest to get her memories back. Cat distribution system is active in the Scions company(technically two males and three female excluding Miqo'te WoL ).
Forgotten spring Miqo’te women and their skirmishes with the Amalj’aa and tied into Amalj’aa tribal with Loonh Gar.
I remember J’moldva from the Blacksmith questline (her of the groovy red shades). And then to see her pop up with Arevnvald and V’mah Tia, it be like squee after how J Tribe were name dropping her the whole time Hylnyan was questing around Ala Ghiri. Totally fine with Hellfire Phoenix senpai being DPS trust in Skallac trust run as she has Ala Mhigan ties as well.
If its not obvious enough I adore Commander Rhiki for no reason other than her design. And that she’s a Triple Triad buddy
Heavensward
In another life Hylnyan could had been Renda-Rae. I kinda end up thinking that she could Jehantel’s shard since her early glory days of the hunt mark seeking and losing her team sounded like him.
It will always be funny that Widargelt’s three main disciples and one antagonist are Miqo’te. The cat distribution system favours this man.
Mujih Mewrilah, Botany quest journalist despawned while her Ivalice sister remained in Kugane. The Raven journalists do be wearing uniforms like Events Miqo'te Kipih Jakkya. All Saints' Wake 2024 edition.
Q'yantaa of Tailfeathers questline I did because Hylnyan was suppose to eventually go to Idyllshire with her mate to start a new life pre ARR. And treating Tailfeathers as a rest stop to learn about their surroundings and offer their skills is a thing they would do.
Zhloe and the Custom Delivery crew are all in Metian Gear until further notice
Stormblood
M’naago and the M tribe folks/related FATEs. Something about how Hylnyan’s footprint in the Ala Mhigo regions was rather small and that most Miqo’te tribes and resistance folks are more aware of her military involvement than her WoLness (much notes about Hylnyan’s area of influence being region based later). While common folks sees her as just another hunting Miqo’te.
J'olhmym, J'olhmym, J'olhmym. M'zhet thinks you're the one for him~~~ Of tribal quest. Vaguely recall J tribe in FATEs / side quests and there were various NPCs namedropping J’moldva in the Ala Ghiri region. That one questline in MSQ involving an Garlean mayor/captain(Baut) of Ala Ghiri
Shadowbringers
Qeshi-Rae aka Hylnyan’s “twin”(looks and personality) was already wearing this hairstyle before Claudien. Facet of Gathering was a post EW followup quest series for me.
It felt like there were more male Mystel roles in ShB and I’m very likely forgetting Crystarium staff and Kholusians somehow
I have not unlock Dancer
Endwalker
Very likely forgetting Sharlayan folks in Labyrinthos (sorry Hamlet and Ragnarok crew) for not standing out somehow. Non Miqo’te NPCs seems to ping my radar more this expac
Bonus
Fray when you’re a Miqo’te too.
The nameless young lady in Haurchefant’s office seems to be one of the rare Miqo’te in snowy place. Unless there are more and I can’t find them
What do you mean Alliance Grand Melee Adder isn’t Tyoh Moui?
Only doing Miqo'te since Hylnyan Miqo'te.

Yensday #5 - 6 March 2024
Hi everyone, and welcome to another (belated) Yensday! Life ended up being more busy than I anticipated, so I unfortunately needed to push back publishing this by a bit. However, we are back on track with another entry!
<><><> Q&A <><><>
PurpleNidoQueen asked: After hanging her hat in the Quarrymill hamlet for so long, does Yen have any hopes and dreams about the home or career or life she wants when she settles down? Does she think she'll settle down at all?
I think this is a question that will vary significantly based off of when you ask it. At the point where the story is at presently, and where it will be at for a little while to come, the honest answer is that Yen is not really able to liberate herself from the idea of "I have to go back home when this is done." The closest thing to an escape she has is to try and just… not think about it.
For a very brief moment in time, the role of Gridanian Envoy that was bestowed upon Yen has allowed her to explore Eorzea without feeling guilty about it. It's very adjacent to how Yenifer so completely let herself sink into the role of lancer; at the back of her mind, she isn't really able to forget why she left Quarrymill, but the more she throws herself at the now, the less guilty she feels about not really wanting to go back. And there's a horrible tragedy to that - at any point, Yen could go back, and that would be the end of her adventure. She could say that all of this just isn't for her, she wants to be with her people, and she just… takes the next cart south.
So, why hasn't she?
The best answer I can give is that she doesn't want to settle down, she doesn't want to go back, she doesn't want to return to a mildly changed status quo and live out a life of uncertainty and fear. At some level, she does feel like that desire is a kind of betrayal, but at the same time… Yen wants to live. She wants to be free, to see things, to go to places, to not be shackled to a miserable place for the rest of her life. She loves her people… but she wants to love herself, too, and that is what is keeping her from home. This deep desire to find herself in the deserts of Thanalan, in the grassy fields of Vylbrand, and even in the forests of the Black Shroud.
In other words - she doesn't want to settle down. Not yet.
<><><> Tidbits & Errata <><><>
Following up from this week's question, I've been thinking a little about where and when Yen would actually hang up her hat. A lot of this internal conversation is made difficult by how far away that point is. The most brief answer I can give is that she wouldn't retire until after Endwalker - a point in the story's chronology that is several dozen books away, and who knows how many years… I try not to think about how large of a commitment this series in for a reason, which I suppose makes me like Yen in a little way.
I have not committed to continuing Light's Falle after Endwalker (i.e., the 6.1+ patch cycle on through Dawntrail and beyond) yet, mostly because I just don't know how long it will take for me to get to it. If I reach the Endsinger when I'm 50, I will probably just hang up my hat! However, if by some miracle I finish things significantly sooner than, y'know, 32 years from now, then I think I very well may try continuing the story.
So… where would that go? What would that mean?
The answer is - I'm still deciding! But there's a few things I know for sure; first, it would be a five summer timeskip between The End of Endwalker and Estinien saying he has a good (bad) idea. She would be living in Ala Mhigo, and would probably be offering herself in a half-dozen different ways to aid in the city-state's reconstruction in a post-Stormblood star. I think her picking up the lance again would be a pretty impulsive, "I kind of miss adventuring so let me try this again with low stakes," decision… and it would pretty rapidly spiral out of control from there.
I did think, though I don't think this idea is one I will commit to, about doing an even larger time-skip, where the protagonist of 6.x onwards would be Yenifer's child, but I think the amount of work to wrangle that into being wouldn't really be worth it. It's an interesting counterfactual, at the very least!For the curious, however, here is my current rough (very rough) timeline of events for Light's Falle using in-universe dates:
4th Astral Moon, 5th Summer of the 7th Umbral Era - Start of A Realm Reborn
Winter, 5 7UE - The Praetorium (end of 2.0)
Winter-Spring, 1st Summer of the 7th Astral Era - Start of post-2.0 patch storylines
Winter, 1 7AE - The Banquet (2.56), start of Heavensward
Spring, 2 7AE - End of Heavensward (3.3)
Summer, 2 7AE - Start of Stormblood (4.0)
Winter-Spring, 3 7AE - End of Stormblood (4.3)
Spring, 3 7AE - Shadowbringers (5.0 - 5.3)
Summer, 3 7AE - Endwalker (5.4 - 6.0)
Again, this is all very work in progress, but in my mind's eye the story will take a significant amount of in-universe time. It's something I look forward to going into in the future!
Thank you all again for stopping by, I look forward to more questions (and more rambling) next week! Until then, may you ever walk in the light of the Crystal!

FFXIVWrite 2023 Prompt 6: Ring
This one is about my WoL's daughter, Gwen, and my friend's WoL's son, Farim!
Some context: Gwen's story is that there was some magical nonsense that happened that made her get stuck in her father's past and so she was forced to relive the life of the Warrior of Light and complete all of ARR-Endwalker before she got back to her properly time. Farim, her best friend, made a pact with the pixies to be able to come with her. She's a pirate now and Farim comes along for the adventures sometimes.
Rating: T. No cws. No spoilers.
The ship was quiet for once as they sailed back towards Limsa, a successful venture by all accounts. The waters were calm, the skies were clear, and there wasn’t another ship in sight, so the crew finally felt like they could properly relax.
Tankards of ale were passed out to everyone who wanted them and conversation was flowing, Gwen cackling along at old sailing stories as she drank and leaned against Farim’s shoulder while he buried his nose in one of the books they’d picked up off the ghost ship. She felt completely at ease, not a care in the world for the first time in… forever.
“Yer turn t’share, Gwennie,” Ninita called, making her roll her eyes and take a big sip from her drink.
“Don’t really have many tales to tell.” The lie slipped easily from her lips, one hand waving off the boos that followed from the crew while elbowing Farim in the process when he gave a snort. “And before anyone asks, neither of us are telling tales about our fathers and all their great Warrior of Light deeds, they talk about that a whole lot less than any of you seem to think,” she added, which was met with another set of boos.
“There’s gotta be somethin’ that ya could tell us ‘bout. Ya became part o’ this crew by tellin’ us ya were an adventurer, where’s all th’ stories from then, huh?” Ninita prodded and most of the crew chimed in in agreement.
But Gwen could just feel the alcohol start to churn uncomfortably in her stomach.
It wasn’t that she didn’t trust them because she did, at least to tell them vaguely about the last few years of her life. The specifics of where she’d been might’ve been a bit difficult to explain, but the adventures she had could be generalized enough to not be too recognizable as events from history. But she couldn’t talk about it all. Not yet. Not with them, at least. Even the good parts felt too personal to really share over tankards of ale like this.
“Our adventures weren’t all that exciting, honestly. More of the run of the mill saving people, hunting things sort of deal,” Farim spoke up, surprising Gwen when he grabbed her hand and gave it a light squeeze. He’d been paying closer attention to the conversation than she’d realized. “Also she’s right about our fathers, they’re really just embarrassing, normal dads who make truly awful puns more times than not,” he said and she huffed a laugh.
“Dreadful puns,” she agreed, setting her tankard down and scooching on the bench until she could rest her head on Farim’s shoulder – something that was easier when she was a couple ilms shorter, but she still made it work.
“Fine, no stories from ya,” Blanwyda said loudly, and Gwen could see the look in her eye. This was the same woman that had stayed up with her that first night on the ship, she knew that this was another of those things that Gwen would be keeping close to her chest. “But," she continued, "don’t mean you can’t talk ‘bout somethin’ else,” she continued, her lips teasing into a smirk. “How ‘bout ya tell us all how long the two of ya have been together?”
Gwen opened her mouth to say something but her mind drew blank. How did she even answer that question? She had to say something, but-
“Together? Good question. Bonded by fae magic, in life and death? A few years, I think. Don’t ask me exactly, I couldn’t tell you,” Farim said simply, picking up Gwen’s drink and taking a sip of it.
The crew went silent, like they were digesting what he just said, before someone finally spoke up and thought what they were all probably thinking. “What the hells does that mean? Some weird marriage vows?” Arild asked, crossing his arms and narrowing his eyes.
Gwen just snorted and was quicker to answer this one. “We’re not married,” she said before Farim could open his mouth. “My dads would cry if they missed my wedding. It’s just… fae magic.”
“I mean, but it’s close to being married,” Farim countered, and Gwen narrowed her eyes and lifted up her head to look at him.
“Close, but also not. I don’t see a ring on this finger,” she said, holding up her left hand and wiggling the fingers.
The crew was snickering again, but Gwen had turned them out somewhat. Farim just rolled his eyes at her and sighed. “You barely even wear rings and we both know if I gave you one that you’d laugh me off the ship,” he pointed out, but Gwen just waved him off.
“Not the point,” she said, and the crew was practically howling laughing now that she couldn’t stop her smile from growing.
“Ya certainly act like a married couple,” Blanwyda said above the noise, and Gwen could feel the tips of her ears burn a little as she blushed. She wasn’t wrong.
“Would it have to be a ring? I mean, Gwen got me that incredible book? That’s sort of a ring equivalent, right?” Farim asked, but was met immediately by a chorus of “no” from the crew and Gwen.
“Well, if you don’t know when you started… whatever it is that you two are, when did you two meet?” Arild asked, clearly trying to get them to continue bickering.
Farim grinned widely, his eyes flashing mischievously and Gwen didn’t even need him to open his mouth before she groaned.
“I was one of the first people to know that Gwen’s fathers adopted her. I’ve known her since before she even grew into her big gobbie ears,” he laughed, continuing even when Gwen pushed him off the bench and onto the deck of the ship – the tankard of ale sloshing everywhere.
The whole crew was laughing and, even though she was glaring daggers at him and her ears were burning even hotter, Gwen couldn’t stop herself from laughing along with them.

Character Profile: J’qupoh Tia
Name: J’qupoh Tia
Alias/Nicknames: Jacques Clouseau (temporary alias) / Poh
Race: Miqo’te - Seeker of the Sun
Age: 29 at beginning of ARR / ~32 if we ignore the time bubble (1 year for ARR/ 1 year for Heavensward / 1 year for Stormblood/ a few months on the Source for Shadowbringers (but closer to a year on the First) and Endwalker)
Height: 6′3″ unless his sister is around, then he's magically going to gain an inch (quite literally thanks to glamors) because his baby sister is not allowed to be taller than him. He does not care that he's already ridiculously tall for a Miqo'te, he must be Taller.
Gender: Male
Orientation: Grey-Ace/Demi (?), Panromantic
Birthday: 9th sun of the 4th astral moon
Relationship status: Trapped in mutual pining hell with G’raha In deep uwus with G’raha Tia
From: Technically Sharlayan/Idyllshire. Was born in Doma while his mother was travelling for work for Saint Mocianne's Arboretum and raised on the road for most of his life. Only lived a few years at the colony, and by the time he returned again in his 20s, it was abandoned and being scoped out by adventurers and goblins as a potential settlement. While he never had any official position, he was around for the establishment of Idyllshire and put in a lot of work to help build the settlement up. His talents lie in conjury, weaving, botany, and illusions, using glamours for anything and everything.
Likes: Treasure hunting, weaving, sweets, mint, traveling, naps
Dislikes: Wastefulness, cold/frozen foods, seeing books not being taken care of, the Forum, Sharlayan wastefulness and lack of care for the environment if it’s not their home anymore, being forced to sit still
Fully Body ref (Updated one coming soon)
Current hair ref
The fambily (also to be updated)

Origin of J’qupoh being a lying liar who lies
J’mogri finds out the WoL is her brother, immediately does her sibling duty to embarrass him

Story and other assorted ramblings under the cut. May include spoilers for Endwalker as I add to it.
Updated 7/21/23 to add more character-focused details rather than straight up backstory
More Details
Hrothgar heritage: Far taller than typical for miqo'te, also inherited his father's stripes and fangs. Not as pronounced as hroth fangs, but large enough that without effort they do very obviously stick out over his lips like a Hrothgar's do. He pretty much trained himself to keep his lips pursed when he was younger to keep them tucked away, which was part of him coming off as more aloof back when he started adventuring. He’s also constantly fighting the bit of natural hunched posture he inherited.
Aether sensitive: Already had issues with teleportation spells making him ill, but now he's basically got aether-based synesthesia that he's still adjusting to. Able to taste people’s aether as a side-effect of nearly becoming a Lightwarden, and while it’s eased off to no longer be overwhelming, he still can’t eat certain flavors anymore without being ill due to associating them with that time.
and the most important feature: fat tits
Body Language and other quirks:
Has a great poker face as long as you don't look at his tail or ears. Left ear flicks when he's lying. Literally spent all of ARR with that ear constantly wiggling every time he introduced himself, it takes a good bit for anyone to put together that it's his tell because of that. Also he tends to wear hats that hide his ears.
Tail becomes a bottle brush when he's startled or embarrassed
A purring machine. He purrs when he’s happy. He purrs when he’s healing (did you know purring has been found to be at a frequency that benefits bone growth?), he purrs when he’s sad (to self-sooth)
Can chirp like a cheetah. He does not control the chirp. Tends to happen when distressed or if he’s really excited about greeting someone. He wishes to be buried in a hole every time it happens
Constantly on the move - pacing while he thinks, circling people as he talks to them, rocking or bouncing in place, tapping his claws together if he has to stay relatively still This man cannot move slowly. Power walking everywhere, you’ll only get him to slow down if he’s in Healer Mode™ and assisting someone with limited mobility.
If you catch him standing mostly still, he's going to have his hands on his hips because that position is easiest to keep himself from hunching
Has lived for several years with the Goblins and treasure hunters of Idyllshire, and may have picked up some quirks from that. Has absolutely accidentally called treasure/gil jingle-shines and meetings busy-talks.
Terrified of lightning, which is a sore point for him given he’s really good at casting lightning aspected spells. Even after being able to work through it enough that he doesn’t flinch at least when allies are casting, casting it himself is uncomfortable - without fail, it leaves his whole body tingling and his right side achy or numb, spreading from his scalp down to fingertips. He’s had it checked and even asked at the thaumaturge’s guild for advice, but they couldn’t find where he may have been doing something wrong or even that he’s actually hurting himself, it seems to be psychosomatic. Y’shtola has also had a look but was unable to see anything that is definitively wrong either, and given his fear she did end up trying to find out if he’s having a trauma response to it, but as far as Poh is aware he’s been like this since he awakened the echo during a lightning storm.
Prefers ‘Poh’ over “Qupoh” if the tribe letter is being dropped. And honestly he’s pretty chill about people dropping it, he only barely considers himself part of the tribe. Pretty content to remain a Tia, since it's barely something he considers part of his identity, though he’s currently considering taking on his father’s clan name. That said, just by the virtue of being huge and being involved with a lot of the leadership in Idyllshire, assumptions have been made in the past and he's been challenged by newcomers trying to stake a claim in the area. He already had a reputation amongst the miqo ladies for being chill and in perpetual big brother mode, so if a new Tia is being especially annoying and refusing to accept they don’t want a Nunh in Idyllshire (nevermind that a lot of them are Keepers you dinguses) they point them at Poh, who took entirely too long to realize what was happening
Background
J’qupoh was born in Doma, though his family is from the Sharlayan colony. He spent very little of his childhood there, as it was mostly spent being dragged about by his mother, J’sylpa, who was eager to share the wonders of the world with her children (and unwilling to shackle herself to one place for long.) She was a gleaner who took on far more 'side-work' than those she answered to would ever approve, and who eventually dropped all pretenses and became an adventurer in truth after Sharlayan began the evacuation from the colony, possibly because she knew a crack down on her side-hustle was likely.
He became an adventurer because of that inherited wanderlust and nostalgia for his childhood. He’s spent most of his adult life stationary, first caring for his sister J’mogri after she put her foot down and refused to be uprooted again, even if it meant their mother leaving without her. J’sylpa and J’qupoh disagreed on 14 being old enough to be left to her own devices, even with a steady stipend and place to call home, and so he put his plans of striking out on his own on hold. Did he at all connect this to realizing how his mother raised him was not great? Nope. He just knew that he wanted his baby sister taken care of. Did this maybe have an effect on him basically adopting the twins as new siblings? Absolutely. He does not care that 16 is technically “old enough” to leave home, sorry Alphi and Alisaie.
That continued when his mother came home with an injury that ended her adventuring career. He had been mostly turning his knowledge in botany and weaving to keeping up his family’s homestead in the abandoned colony, basically becoming a founding citizen of Idyllshire and working alongside the other adventurers and the Goblins to restore the settlement. Pretty much spending the whole time gradually becoming more and more stir-crazy and wanting to travel again.
His talents lie in conjury, weaving, botany, and illusions, using glamours for anything and everything. And he's a habitual liar, born from the aftermath of the Echo being triggered when he was very young and not being believed when he tried to share what he’d learned from his ‘daydreams’, then learning no one would believe him unless he dressed it up in half-truths or outright lies. Which may have gotten a little out of control as he got older. Usually his lies aren’t anything serious - deflecting attention off himself, or changing up how he found out something mostly.
J'qupoh isn't the name the Scions initially knew him by - he went by Jacques for beginning of his second go round as an adventurer. He didn't even put a lot of thought into his alias - he literally just forgot he was under a glamour when he left for Gridania, got as far as choking out "J'q-" before remembering he was trying to pass as a Hyur, and somehow managed to play it off and get "Jacques" out of it. By the time he actually made it there, answering to Jacques had become just enough of a habit that he didn't even think about it before he registered with the guilds. And then he just...completely failed to fix things, because he was worried it would cause trouble given he was now officially dealing with heads of state.
He didn’t have any reasons of profound significance for the alias- he was avoiding harassment from his sister, who was not impressed by his desire to try another go at being an adventurer. As far as she knew, he was taking some time to cool off and decide if he was going to Gridania for the Botanist guild or Ul’dah for the Weavers to get access to better work now that Mogri and Sylpa didn’t rely on him as much.
It was only supposed to last long enough to get a reputation, but he didn’t think about that part where he’d be earning it under a different name. Then he was too embarrassed about the whole mess to bring it up. He's a brave boy about risking his life, but dealing with his own poor choices? Oof.
Okay and honestly, he figured people might take him more seriously if they didn't have to call him the noise moogles make. He was named for J’sylpa’s obsession with them. She showed much greater mercy when she named J'mogri.
That he is technically a Sharlayan citizen is just another detail he forgot to mention to the Scions until there was no avoiding it. Oops.Admittedly he wasn’t sure he actually was considered one though.
Frankly the only reason his family hadn’t caught on in Heavensward is because his sister had left to expand on her blacksmith skills, his mother is now somewhat of a recluse, and pure luck.
He's constantly overwhelmed over what his life has become. It certainly wasn't what he thought he'd be getting into when he set out, and he’s not sure how much is him looking back on his mother’s adventuring and the jobs he was able to do with her at the time with rose-colored glasses or that his life is actually this absurd. Were it not for the bonds he has with the Scions, he might have bailed early on. He was certainly tempted when the Bloody Banquet went down but ultimately running from everything would have felt too much like betrayal. And to abandon Alphinaud and Tataru? Absolutely not. He's a liar, not an asshole.
Actually that probably sums him up in general. He's kind of just. Fumbled through the rest on that kind of energy.

rambling time :)
Hmmm I realize now why Urianger is actually leaving the party at this point. It’s to force Thancred to actually do something concerning Minfilia. He’s served primarily as her emotional support up until now, with Thancred... idk he gave her a headpat a couple of times. His optional dialogue there was “I will talk to her. When the times is right.” You dumbass the time has been right for an eternity.
Oh and now we get death baited again. I was genuinely afraid the first time that they really killed Thancred. He seemingly had enough death flags for it, unlike with Y’shtola whose apparent death came from nowhere. God... and the hiding his very soul stuff... I wonder if that’ll make a return later. Certainly is convenient, not to mention dramatic. But man this really was bait, he just like, turns up fine later. Kinda dumb ngl.
Wtf I’m tearing up about Minfilia prime again... god...
Oh... OHHHH I understand what’s going on in this vision now! G’raha is reading Count Edmont’s book, and this roegadyn man is Bigg’s descendant... Huh, that’s funny. Two of the stories from Heavensward got muddled. A hero rides in astride a white dragon to save a little girl... The WoL riding into Ishgard on Midgardsormr, and Vidofnir saving the little girl. Fun detail.
?? Did Emet-Selch just SMILE at the WoL? His eyes crinkled. Do his eyes crinkle anywhere else??? Nobody else even saw that I think it might’ve been genuine, even if it’s just to see that the WoL hasn’t fallen apart yet. Like, he smiles in other places. There’s the mocking smiles, and the one last genuine but sad one near the end, but I can’t recall seeing one like that.
Ah. I think this is it. He’s explaining the Sundering.
I love this line and the delivery...
His logic makes sense. It IS relative, in this case. It of course doesn’t excuse the killing of millions and whatnot... it’s simply that the Ascians can’t accept things as they are now. A world without Zodiark is wrong. I wonder if they’d ever accept things as they are now if they weren’t tempered.
It’s silly that the game first explains the true nature of Ascians nowadays in some optional dialogue... the unsundered Ancients can raise fragments to become Ascians themselves, presumably anyone... though only fragments of the Convocation of Fourteen can rise to their respective office, through use of those... memory stones, or whatever they were. I’ll get back to that eventually.
Oh. You can also ask about Emet-Selch’s true name here, and there’s foreshadowing that you may one day learn... mannnnnnnnnn why do they have to kill him though??? The Hades fight is cool, though heart breaking. They bring back every other character, even Asahi to an extent for godsakes... The trailer, iirc, had a voice over from him so... maybe... maybe if we get more into the WoL being Azem... I dunno. I want to hope.
Ohhghhg I regret eating right before this bit with Vauthry downing... meol... ugghyhhh the noises this is awful I can feel my stomach turning :( That whole business... it’s not surprising the story moves past it quickly. Still funny though that they never outright acknowledge that all that was literally cannibalism.
Ah. AH!!!! There’s the line!!!!
So... he recognizes Azem even now. Huh. And what follows... he thinks the WoL would have liked it, Amaurot or however you spell it. He’s being... nice. Oh. That is... a sly proposition. He’s suggesting that the WoL just let things happen, that if they survive they’ll become whole. Of course Emet-Selch would want that, to have his friend back...
And now we come to the silliest plot point in the expansion. Really? Just make a giant Talos? Just like that? Even with an entire nation’s people working on it organizing everything and putting together the materials and all should take an eternity.
Duuuude I hate Mt. Gulg. Also this stupid audio effect they have on Vauthry, the echo is too much it hurts to try and understand what he’s saying, even with the text.
Ohhhhhhh myyyyyyyyy gooooooooooood G’raha’s deception is so bad but... it still hurts....... and Urianger... this is the most intense he sounds in the entire game... that “Do not interfere!”. G’raha!!!! You idiot!!!!! Gggghg. OH MY GOD THAT’S HIS RING HAND! HE’S REACHING TOWARDS HIM WITH THE HAND THAT BEARS HAURCHEFANT’S RING.... UNINTENTIONAL BUT GOOD!!!!!!! And finally his hood..... god.... I’m gonna cry again I can nbarely type./.... his inspiratyion...... and HIM EMET-SELCH!!!!!!!! GGGGGGGGGHGFHGH NO. THIS SUCKS SO BAD@!!!!
Ohhhhhh this story is evil. That it should be able to make you feel bad for disappointing Emet-Selch....... I mean it’s true. You weren’t strong enough, and others pay the price.
Seeing all of this... I wonder if Endwalker will attempt to top this level of relevance the WoL has. Suddenly... they are the existential threat. I mean again I suppose they could if they let the WoL take on Hydaelyn’s power as Zenos suggests. I do still hope that happens.
Ah... and again his ring hand to touch Ardbert..... cute... Hey wait why isn’t the WoL allowed to have any real heart to hearts with any of the Scions. Let them be friends :(
... ... wh. Why have they said the same thing? Emet-Selch says to the WoL before they depart, mocking how the world would react to the WoL’s affliction, “There is no hope. We are finished. Mankind is finished.” And. G’raha says this to Urianger once he arrives originally, to convey people’s reaction to the final calamity that befell the Source. I... suppose... Emet-Selch was watching? But that doesn’t make sense, they discuss other information here he doesn’t know. It’s just to draw a parallel, then? Oh. I see. G’raha then expounds on it and makes it something hopeful.
Oh also. It would have made infinitely more sense for it to have been one of Cid’s descendants to assist G’raha in traveling back in time. I can only assume that SE knows their fans well enough to know there would have been a crowd upset at what that implies with Cid, with how much they play around with the rivalry between him and Nero. Very funny thing to notice.
I can’t get out of my head what must have been the WoL’s original plan to reach Emet-Selch... take an Amaro over open water, then just dive in and swim around until the find him.
Ohhggh... I love Urianger his apology is so cute... he’ll stay by the WoL’s side for as along as he is able, if they’re willing to forgive or at least set aside their displeasure... even if they’re a danger to those around them...
Ohh and Alisaie!!!! This is why ShB is so good they actually CARE about the WoL it’s so nice... Oh right, and Urianger actually acknowledges their poorly thought out plan and thinks it’s silly. I don’t remember this from the first time, that swimming that far would probably make them die from exhaustion anyhow.
I saved this as a draft when my internet was being stupid hoping closing firefox would help. It did not. Anyways i came back to close this up and also note. I have been playing GNB terribly wrong for a while now. You’re granted a bonus damage ogcd after every move of your cartridge combo, not just the last one. I’m so stupid I thought it was like, an option of which one to use, but no. GNB is confusing, the combos are like... barely combos you can interrupt them to do whatever and return to them later. I’m looking at the optimal opener and i can feel my brain melting how the hell do I remember this??? I mean I don’t have to yet, I’m not at 80, but jfc. Idk if I’m ever gonna be able to raid like, properly lining up skills during battles sounds too difficult for me. I have a pea brain when actually fighting things case in point that one raid where it makes you do simple addition and division. It made me think 6+4 was 12. It’s hard enough for me as is to not let too many ogcds drift, at least not too bad...
Anyways. going to keep playing but I can wrap this up.

Q3: Why did you start writing this character?
A3: Because I had wanted to create a fully fleshed out WoL OC, despite having played FFXIV for years now, I never written about an OC in the fandom before. I got inspired from watching Memoirs of a Geisha, the TV Series Shogun, and replaying Jade Empire.
Q4: What first attracted you to this character?
A4: Well, I have always wanted to create a Samurai type character for a long time. I also have studied Japanese History and Asian cultures, so I am in love with Kugane and all of the Far Eastern lore, hence why I had Yume originate from there.
Q5: Describe the biggest thing you dislike about your muse.
A5: The one big thing I dislike is despite how confident she is in herself on the battlefield, she is very insecure in herself when she’s not a warrior. It is hard for her to open up to others outside of battle, as in just making friends. She’s just a soft bean underneath and she needs to build her confidence!
Q6: What do you have in common with your muse?
A6: I would say that some aspects of my personality, especially the temper, is in common with Yume. Other than that, we are quite different really.
Q7: How does your muse feel about you?
A7: Uhhhh I guess she likes me cuz I have treated her well after her attempted suicide and exile? Maybe? 🤷🏻♀️
Q8: What characters does your muse have interesting interactions with?
A8: The most interesting interactions? Well, Yume is quite protective of Alphinaud and Alisaie like they are her own siblings, and I’ve always been meaning to write something with Yume and the Twins. But what can I say? The most interesting interactions will have to be with Cid and Raha. Cid because she always feels so vulnerable around him, but at the same time, she feels safe with him as well. With Raha, it starts out as annoyance but she quickly sees that he is way more than what he seems on the surface, which eventually she ends up falling in love with him, and complicating her relationship with Cid in the process.
Q9: What gives you inspiration to write your muse?
A9: Playing FFXIV and while I play, I come up with new scenarios and scenes that I’d love to write about. Also, coming in here to Tumblr and seeing all my amazing mutuals and their wonderful muses also greatly inspires me to improve myself in my own writing.
Q10 : How long did this take you to complete?
A10 : Way too damn long... like a little bit at a time for a week? Yeah, if you want to fill this out, just be prepared. I had to do some research for some of these questions.
