ok sit the FUCK down bitches ive been down a ttte rabbit hole for two (2) days and that makes me qualified to give you DEFINITIVE PROOF of this shit
"but rungi, how you gonna do that?" i hear shouted on the breeze
ohohoho bois it's fuckin simple so strap yourselves in because we're about to get TECHNICAL
in the japanese dub of old iron (おんぼろエドワード) that I just watched edward refers to himself using the pronoun 僕
that's it that's the proof fite me
僕 (boku) is a casual way of saying 'I' usually used by males. it's not as rough as 俺 (ore) but it's not as polite as 私 (watashi) SIDE NOTE JAMES IS EXACTLY THE SORT OF FUCKBOI TO USE NOT ONLY 俺 BUT 俺様 BECAUSE HE RIDES HIS OWN DICK THAT HARD but i digress
side side note: ive only watched one episode but i would actually put money on gordon using 我輩 pompous twat
everyone else probably uses 僕 except thomas might use 俺 but ill have to experience more to verify let's come back to this on a few whiles and see how incorrect i am
anyway in JP animated media, especially kids' media, pronouns are used a lot to convey something about character. there's actually a pronoun that's used by old man characters. like, exclusively by old man characters and old man characters almost always use it. it's ワシ (washi). the og topham h uses washi so we know the usual convention of ワシ being the old man pronoun applies here too. but that shit don't be spillin from ed's mouth he's too busy being a boku
TL;DR JP DUB EDWARD USES 僕 NOT ワシ THEREFORE HE AIN'T BEIN PRESENTED AS SIGNIFICANTLY OLDER THAN THE OTHER TRAINS OR EVEN OLD AT ALL I WIN
I won't stew in silence any longer. My grievances will be heard. AND tagged.
Why is there such a huge emphasis on Edward's 'old age' amongst fans and sometimes in the series itself, but more importantly, fan depictions of him as this decrepit old man. He's at most 17 years older than James. Look at this guy's face, he's like, the face of eternal youthful beauty. He looks like a wry and mischievous fae folk charming you away into a forest where you will fucking never be seen again. GOODBYE.
And don't get me wrong, I like describing/thinking of him as older, it gives his struggles and his dedication more merit and weight, but he's not anyone's peepaw by any means. People act like this poor guy was made in 1806 as opposed to earliest 1896.
Maybe at the time, when he was holed up in the sheds, he was 'older'. Marginally. Like how you look at your Samsung S10 and frown because it's not the S21 ultra. I wouldn't call that a grandpa, would you?
Anyway that's my two cents for what it's worth. If anything.
#ttte Edward#GONNA READ TOO MUCH INTO PRONOUN CHOICES AGAIN#let's look at suffixes too if someone calls percy -chan im gonna mcfuckin lose it#bets placed on james using ore-sama and gordon using wagahai#bonus points if there's a soseki reference#wagahai wa train de aru#ah shit james uses boku too what a missed opportunity he's such an ore-sama piece of trash

Drama review 2#: Romance is a Bonus Book
‘Instead of “I love you” Natsume Soseki said “The moon is beautiful”. It was a night that made me think of him.’
Country of origins: South Korea
Number of Episodes: 16
Topics: Romance, friendship, family, divorce, books, unemployment
Genre: romance and comedy(this show is so pure that it could cleanse your skin)
Synopsis: Dan Yi is an unemployed, divorced woman in her mid thirties. Because she has been a house wife for 7 years she can’t seem to find any work and she is forced to remove all of her credentials on her resume to take a job under her level at a book publishing company. One of her superiors is her best friend and “little brother” Eun Ho who she temporarily lives with. While her love for publishing books grow (as her crush on her best friend, oops), she also discovers that the company keeps a mysterious secret...
My grade: 7,5/10
Pro’s:
Esthetically beautiful
Beautiful script (it’s a poem on it’s own)
FLUFF
Amazing chemistry between the leads (during their friendship AND during their relationship)
Cute little side couple
The plot of the mystery of the publishing company is really well worked out
Cons:
A little boring at times
Sometimes the comedy feels a little bit forced
A few plot details that feel a little unrealistic
My review:
I’m a HUGE sucker for the ‘friends-to-lovers-trope’, so this one basically couldn’t have gone for me. From the longing/loving glares from the male lead and the painfully oblivious female lead, to the sudden realization of ‘oH My gOD hE liKEs mE’, this drama had it all. Apart from that, the lead actors had such a good, playful chemistry. Their teasing in their friendship continues in their romance, which feels realistic and soothing. I’ve read some reviews that said that Eun Ho and Dan Yi’s relationship lacks chemistry after they get into a relationship, but I honestly didn’t feel that way. How can I explain it? Imagine the two biggest cinnamon roles on earth getting into a relationship. Got it? Yeah, it’s something like that. So, I think it’s safe to say that this show contains enough fluff to leave me satisfied.
This show is so much more than fluff, though. The visuals would leave even the esthetic side of tumblr in aw. While this is (for as far as I have seen) quite common in Korean drama’s, I feel like the visuals of this drama get amplified by the (at times) poetic script. Which fits the topic of literature so well. You can truly feel that the story is build around a love for books and literature as they reference and metaphor the shit out of it. Don’t get me wrong, in a beautiful way. It’s one of the reasons why I binged this drama.
When I first watched this drama about a year ago, I LOVED it, immediately ranking it my favorite k-drama. I rewatched it more recently and did notice some things that didn’t threw me off the first time I watched it, but did the second time around. I suddenly noticed that some of the more humoristic scenes felt a little awkward and forced. Not all of it for sure, al though the funny scenes that didn’t feel like that were more adorable to me than actually funny. There’s also a lot of focus on work related topics in this drama and it can make it a little boring at times. Even though I think it’s super interesting to see this woman struggle with prejudices in her work and to see the way a book is being constructed, I think they could’ve cut it a little shorter at times and gotten to the point quicker.
In short, this drama is super fluffy, super sweet and super esthetically pleasing. Apart from that I think it handled the topic of divorce really well. In the show they really show how it effects women, in an even slightly feministic tone. Dan Yi works herself from the ground up and her story really highlights discrimination in the recruitment of employees.
Anyways if that ain’t enough for you, Lee Jong Suk being the lead might do the trick. *sigh* 😍
