one of my favorite character arcs is for sure the "I did a minor bad thing to progress, but My Goal is worth it. Okay now I can't back out bc it's the only way to make my first mistake Pay Off, now I've got to do [unspeakable tragedy 1] to ensure it happens. Uh oh it's still not happening I need to do [unspeakable tragedy 2] so it happens For Sure now that we're in deep. Which is where everything including the means is Perfect, as the Perfectest End will retroactively retcon the means Perfect and Not Harmful.
