Lex Luthor (Smallville/X-Men) AU - Fanfiction - Chapter 6

The change in your relationship with Lex has made you more aware. Not just of yourself, but him.

Before you were fine with the distance. In a lot of ways you knew it would be hard. The last person you loved died in your arms, so of course there are some reservations on your part. 

But at this point, you can’t say that it would be easy to really walk away. A part of you selfishly wants this more than anything. Because the way he looks at you sometimes, it almost makes you forget all the bad things in your past. 

Stepping into the main area, Lex’s eyes lift from his computer and a smile immediately graces his face. 

“Good morning Mr. Luthor.” 

His smile becomes wider at the very neutral expression. He supposed it was a stretch to think you would turn into a giddy mess overnight. 

“So formal, I think we’re past that point. Why don’t you call me Lex, or even better, boyfriend.” 

“Your fighting and flirting skills seem to be battling for last place.” 

The comment has him belting out a laugh. He can say for a fact that he’ll never be bored, especially with your clever responses. Once he collects himself he sees the softer expression you wear. It dawns on him that you appreciate it, his relaxed and joyful expressions. There’s that subtle vulnerable look again. When you lower your guard and talk to him. 

“I know I don’t always express it, but I am happy with this. “ You feel as though you need to tell him. He’s been with you long enough to gauge your personality, but you still want to be transparent about certain aspects. Lex nods. 

“I get it. You’re the serious, mysterious type. I’ll crack you eventually.” 

You just lift a brow. 

“Good luck with that.” 

A challenge he’d gladly accept. 

The days carry on without too much commotion. There haven’t been any big leaps when it comes to your interactions. Above all else, you’re a professional and he does respect your work ethic.  

He is, however, secretly happy with the little changes. Like the way you sneak glances of him when you think he doesn’t notice. Or how you've started to stand a bit closer to him than you did before. Maybe it’s the little compliments you seem to drop with a straight face. 

“You smell good.” 

You said it so nonchalantly that he almost didn’t catch it.  This particular afternoon you were both seated in the Talon. He was working on a project and you were right across from him with a book in your hand. You casually flipped the page, and when you felt his gaze you looked up. He was smiling. 

“Anything else?” 

“I like you in suits, but I’d like to see you dressed casually when it’s just the two of us.” 

These confessions were better than he expected. Each statement just made his smile bigger. 

“Your eyes are also beautiful.”

After that last one, you went back to reading as if you hadn’t just dropped a few blush worthy comments. He chuckled softly, closing his laptop as he stood. You assumed he was done working, so you closed your own book, about to stand, but he slid into the booth right next to you. You slid back, staring at him in question.

One hand was pressed to the table and the other smoothened against the back of the chair. 

“You can’t make those types of statements and not expect me to react.” 

The adoration in his eyes had you swallowing, and your gaze dropped to his lips for a second before they returned to those emerald hues. 

“Kiss me.”

His request caused a pleasant shiver to run up your spine. You tried to keep your professional front, but it was proving to be difficult. 

“We’re..” You exhale. 

“I’m still on the job.” You informed him. 

He licked his lips, nodding. 

“Please.” 

Your brows knitted at the soft plea, and before he could say another word, you were leaning in, pressing a desperate kiss to his lips. His hand came down, laying delicately on your cheek, relishing in the softness of your kiss. 

It was all those little moments that reminded him of how lucky he was. 

That’s why he was a little irritated when he saw the newspaper article a few days later. 

The piece was claiming that you had seduced your boss to get ahead in life. He hated the tabloids. He supposed he should have expected it. He didn’t want this to be ruined because people didn’t know how to mind their business. When you entered the room he dropped the vile piece of paper with a frown. 

That caught your attention. 

You were at his side in seconds. 

“Did something happen?” 

You looked ready to drop kick whoever it was responsible for his unease at the moment. He stood, shaking his head as he pointed to the paper. Hiding it wouldn’t do any good. 

“I was careless.” 

You directed your gaze to the article, picking it up as you read the headline and paragraph attached. He expected you to be upset, after all you’re human. If you did have doubts he wouldn’t blame you. 

“This is all wrong.” 

Lex nodded in agreement. 

“I know.” 

He should have done a better job of protecting you. 

“As I recall you were the one who seduced me.” 

You placed the paper back down and looked at him, as if waiting for something more dire. 

“Is that all you were upset about?” 

You didn’t look affected in the slightest. 

“You’re not the least bit annoyed?” He quizzed. 

You thought it was a joke, but he seemed serious. 

“I’ve been shot, stabbed, impaled, almost blown up and run over. I don’t think a few words from a dumb article is going to cripple me.” 

He would have laughed if you hadn’t just listed some very gruesome injuries. 

“Really, you’ve been impaled?” 

“Twice.” 

He nodded, eyes searching for where it probably occurred. It became apparent that he really must have been worried about the article. 

“If you’d like we can remain professional when we’re in public. I don’t want you to be upset every time they print something like this.” 

The fact that you were now reassuring him spoke for itself. 

“I’d prefer it if you ravished me regardless of where we are.” 

“That would get us both arrested.” 

Once again he was laughing.

I wanted to share if u dont mind?

Just imagine saving/helping greatly to someone Capitano values/cherishes and now not only u have goodwill of one of the Fatui Harbingers, but u also will gain a potential boduguard if u picked his interest. It will start as a sign of appreciation, theres not much people he holds dear, obviously, and if not your helping hand, maybe things might ve gone not so smooth.

But u are not fool, after some time u cant ignore rare calls for your company, him visiting u absolutely randomly, stumbling on a big bazar or some market "without meaning to". Neither can u stop him from making u at least some small gifts.

Only after u confront him and say that he sends mixed signals and u deserve as much gratitude anymore, at least not dirrectly coming from him, will he say in most deadpan, albeit smooth and calm voice.

"That was my intention to pursue u.. Thank u for noticing, btw. "

Wait this is such a cute idea though like... Capitano trying to be all sneaky as he shows his appreciation to you for saving one he cares about. Subtlety is not his forté so more often than not you just end up catching him standing nearby and staring at you intently.

I'd imagine that because of how hard he is to read, you quickly begin to think there's something wrong, but don't approach him first because of his high ranking and such. But then he starts doing small things in return, and you find gifts left out for you.

Finding out he's actually trying to court you would be such a sweet moment of realisation, I feel like he'd be almost bashful about it and it's so adorable when he's standing there waiting for your response looking as close to nervous as you've ever seen him omg.

and as for these two, martha, like me, is not scared of the procedures themselves. needles, dentists, blood - zero reaction. but she will have an anxiety attack on the way to the hospital because oh god, i need to talk to people. what if i say something wrong or stupid?? i don't want to be perceived by people right now ohHHHHH-. even if she's bleeding out she will BEG ven to call an ambulance so she don't have to. she's the least scared of the dentists and probably has all of her milk teeth stored somewhere.

veniamin on the other hand, does not have social anxiety (lucky bastard) and is not afraid of blood nor needles. but you're SO right about him not liking dentists lmaooo he definately had a lot of problems with his teeth in childhood so the associations and memories are not. pleasa nt to say the least.

Hey Auditor, why don't ATP Soldats serve as your boduguards, but their less combat-focused counterparts (Engineers) do?

Are they perhaps required to do maintenance on office equipment and not so much protections?

I do not require physical protection. Soldats are to be out in the field, focusing their efforts on finding Wimbleton. Engineers are here for routine maintenance, at least for the things that cannot be automated.
