@abdullahgawad has reach up to me and needs to reach the goal, my guess is that he's new to tumblr, so I tried to make a post
This is his story, quoted from the gfm fundraiser:
"Hello my friends
We are the brothers Youssef, Abdullah, and Muhammad Abu Ghanem, from Palestine, from Gaza City. We come from a a family of 10, 4 brothers and 4 sisters, and we live in the Sheikh Ajlin neighborhood on the shore of the Gaza Sea. From the sea came our talent, which we have always loved, which is the sport of surfing on the sea. Anyone who loves this sport and follows its news in Gaza will undoubtedly know us. Whoever does not know us will search for us and will know a lot about our talent through the pictures and magazines in which we have photographed many press and photographers.
Youssef, our older brother, is considered one of the pioneers of this sport and is one of the original members of the Gaza Surf Club. The cover photo for this fundraiser is him when he was younger in the early days of Gaza surfing. He was featured in the film "Gaza Surf Club”, which spread around the world and achieved great success. He is married and has a family of two children, Jawad and Jumana. He lost his beautiful home in this war.
Abdullah, the second brother, is the one who wrote this article that you are reading. I am also a surfer and I have followed in the footsteps of my father, uncle, brother and sister in this magical sport. I graduated from university with a major in information technology, motion graphics branch. I had my job, my dreams, and my ambitions, and I finished preparing my room at home to suit my work. However, the war quickly destroyed all of these: my home, my dreams, and my future.
Muhammad, the third brother, who loves the sea and its skills, is also studying information technology, but he did not complete his studies due to financial conditions, so he worked as a lifeguard at the sea to collect money to complete his studies. Unfortunately, the war came and prevented him from completing his ambition and studies.
We all belong to a family that uses the sea as a means of happiness, comfort and reassurance. We grew up on the water, where our father worked for years as a fisherman and lifeguard. So he planted a love for the sea in our hearts. But after October 7, our lives were turned upside down. Our house, my father’s car, the fishing boat, and surfboards were all destroyed. They destroyed everything beautiful in our lives. Our family is now living in Rafah, with some of us in tents and some sharing a classroom with other families.
We are humbly asking for your support to allow us to survive this terrible time and rebuild our lives. Our goal with this fundraiser is to raise enough money to help our family survive the rest of the war and then to help us rebuild our lives when we return north to Sheikh Ajlin. Thank you so much for your support!
The host of this fundraiser is our trusted friend Dionne Ybarra. Dionne is a long-time supporter of Gaza surfers who lives in California and has supported us in many ways since 2010. She is the director of The Wahine Project and is a board member of Explore Corps, the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that runs The Gaza Surf Club. Please feel free to contact her or Explore Corps with questions. They can put you in touch with me directly.
Please note that this is our own private fundraiser and is not a fundraiser for the Gaza Surf Club. Thank you again for your support!"

April 22nd 2005 saw the death of the sculptor and artist Eduardo Paolozzi
Paolozzi’s Italian parents ran a small ice cream parlour in Leith, in June 1940, when Italy declared war Eduardo was interned (along with most other Italian men in Britain).During Eduardo’s three-month internment at Saughton prison his father, grandfather and uncle, who had also been detained, were among the 446 Italians who drowned when the ship carrying them to Canada, the Arandora Star, was sunk by a German U-boat.
There is little online about his internment and you wouldn’t have condemned him if he decided to leave Scotland after his release, the words of a Proclaimer’s song always springs to mind when I read about Eduardo Paolozzi, and other Scots=Italians:
Joseph D'Angelo dreams of the days
When Italian kids in the Grassmarket played
We burned out his shop when the boys went to war
But auld Joe's a big man and he forgave all
By the time Eduardo was released it was 1943 and he began attending Edinburgh College of Art before moving to London and feigned madness to secure his release from army duties in order that he could study sculpture at the Slade School of Fine Art from 1944 to 1947.
Paolozzi is widely considered to be one of the first Pop artists and created many collages including the famous ‘I was a rich man’s plaything’ in 1947, which was the first artwork to feature the word ‘Pop’ in it.
After a spell in Paris he returned to London and moved into a studio in Chelsea and by the 1950s was establishing himself as a surrealist artist through a series of screen-prints, pioneering the technique in which each print can have a separate colourway, predating Warhol’s famous prints of the same nature by four years.
In 1968 Paolozzi taught sculpture and ceramics at the University of California, Berkeley. He worked in Berlin from 1974, and was Professor at the Fachhochschule in Cologne from 1977 to 1981. He also later taught at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich.
Paolozzi might have spent many years away from his home town of Edinburgh but didn’t forget it, he donated a great deal of work to the Scottish National Gallery, who have since displayed a reconstruction of his studio and a large body of his work in the Dean Gallery.
If you have wandered around Edinburgh and visited St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral you will have come across Eduardo Paolozzi statues, “Manuscript of Monte Cassino” which comprises a giant foot and matching hand and ankle. The work was a gift to the city by entrepreneur Tom Farmer, the work is found outside St Mary’s RC Cathedral, I like how the area there has three pieces of art, on the left at Picardy Place you can enjoy a statue of Sherlock Holmes, and on the right you have two giant Giraffes outside the Omni Centre made of scrap metal.
Eduardo Paolozzi suffered a serious stroke in 2001 and he died in a hospital in London in April 2005.
The pics I have chosn are all held by The National Gallery of Scotland, if you like his work you will find loads of it on their website, over 12 hundred are tagged in his name. https://www.nationalgalleries.org/search?search=eduardo%20paolozzi

The “red alert” of March 19, 2024, as detailed in the last post, continued to preoccupy my state of being as did the American border immigration crisis. And I began to consider our nation’s homeless people and realized again there is no time to waste in the transition from dirty energy to clean energy.
A small fraction of America’s homelessness challenge is a result of undocumented migration stemming from economic disasters around the world. True, not so much now, but can you picture how much greater the world sidewalk tent encampment situation will be if there were hundreds of thousands of thirsty, starved human beings clawing to get into our country, in Canada and Europe, seeking survival because where they were born is unlivable? In my mind this is chill inducing.
This will be reality a few decades from now because we are already too late to curb a warming planet in time to allow the southern continents to be mostly habitable. To a certain extent, the climate relocation calamity has already begun. I believe what we are witnessing at our Southern border is NOTHING compared to what lies ahead. As a nation, we are unprepared to deal with what is currently happening on the other side of the border. So how can we possibly adjust to what’s coming unless our government gets its immigration act together? Even then, a humanitarian crisis will unfold as we watch recordings of destitute people scramble for food, water and shelter on the other side of an unbreachable wall. The hundreds of tons of relief pallets that our nation donated to the Gaza tragedy pales in comparison to what will be required during the next decades across the Rio Grande, the Nogales border and the CA border. No amount of legal immigration vetting can prevent the illegal crossings that can take place on our surrounding boundaries. A mid-April, 2024 filmed boat landing in Carlsbad, CA serves notice as a dozen illegals jumped out and disappeared in the city - and some had cars waiting. Customs and Border Protection of San Diego reports that since 2020, in California alone, maritime smuggling is up by almost 140%. Many of our coastal citizens believe migrants simply get dropped off and dwell in the neighborhoods. The San Diego region has seen 185,000+ encounters so far this YEAR, up 70% from the prior year.
In 2023 alone, 124,000 legal immigrants moved into California: 42% Asian and 38% Central American. This is why the net population was up. At some point in time the United States of America will be overwhelmingly populated by immigrants seeking a sustainable life. Yet, how do we say no to human survival? Our lawmakers will be in a quandary unless they learn how to cooperate with one another way ahead of this pending human debacle. Do we wait 50-60 years like we waited to witness climate change? How can we get around this? My answer: Begin each day visualizing your future while thinking of a positive, healing environmental movement. A united climate action spirit will do wonders for getting us where we must be. The forthcoming wave of human migration spurred by the Southern hemisphere warming requires a precise plan of response. I shudder to think how our current government and corporate leaders will agree on a master plan. To date, U.S. immigration law is extremely complicated and confusing for all involved....

Pinned post time! Updated 03/30/2024
All the info here is also on my About Me page, but if I remember correctly, mobile is kinda goofy with that so I'm copying it over here and pinning it just in case :)
As my header says, my name is Birdy, though I also go by Syd or Jay, and I am the live-aboard cook on the tallship Lady Washington! We are based out of Aberdeen WA and spend the summer sailing around Puget Sound, though we have historically gone down as far south as California and as far north as Vancouver! You can find out more about the ship and her history, as well as see where we’re going this summer, over on our website!
I’ve worked retail my whole life, up until a couple summers ago, when I got my first job as a deckhand onboard a more modern vessel. It was fun, but it wasn’t until I stumbled across the last opening back in February 2022 that I found my place. Now I’m in my third year keeping these fools fed and healthy, and I couldn’t be happier!
NOTE: this is not an official social media page for the boat/seaport! This is just something I do in my spare time for fun. Updates will be inconsistent, whenever I have the motivation/time/energy, and anyone looking for solid advice on how to get into the industry miiight be better suited looking somewhere else. I'm always happy to answer questions though!
Post about our 2024-2025 winter refit! Lady is undergoing a huge midlife restoration and needs donations!

National Shoe The World Day
We celebrate National Shoe The World Day every year on March 15. The day sheds light on the importance of footwear and the need for quality footwear for millions of people worldwide who can’t afford or don’t have access to it. Did you know that nearly one billion people on Earth don’t have shoes, or their footwear is inadequate? Despite difficult terrains and climates, these people walk barefoot or with poor-quality footwear. The good news is that we can all do something about it by donating, sponsoring, or gifting shoes to those who don’t have them.
History of National Shoe The World Day
Food, shelter, and clothes are the basic needs of every human in this world. However, one such necessity that millions of people worldwide struggle to get is good quality footwear. From walking barefoot on hard, warm surfaces to walking in slippery, muddy jungles, many people don’t have access to footwear.
Walking without protection or barefoot can even lead to a lifetime of problems, including pain, injury, cuts, sores, infections, parasites, e.t.c. Moreover, apart from the health issues, people can get banned from schools and other business places for not wearing them, and this issue is exactly what National Shoe The World Day addresses. We might be blessed to have several pairs of shoes in our closets, but few are lucky enough to have one pair of shoes even though they are much too big for them.
National Shoe The World Day was created by the United Indigenous People in Fontana, California, inspired by Donald Zsemonadi in March 2014. Since then, people worldwide have participated in this event and helped ‘shoe’ those struggling without good quality or no footwear. For some of us, shoes might not be such a big thing to talk about and celebrate, but good shoes are still a dream for some in underdeveloped communities. So, let’s raise awareness about the importance of good shoes and act to help those in need.

Men came first: The first people to wear heels were men in the 10th century.
Why National Shoe The World Day is Important
It is a much-needed initiative: National Shoe The World Day is a meaningful initiative that aims to put shoes on the feet of people who suffer without them.
Shoes are more important than we think: This day reminds us that shoes or any other footwear, in general, are more than just some status symbol; they are essential commodities in today’s world.
People need to know this: It is crucial to raise awareness of how wearing shoes is necessary for people and how not wearing them can cause infections and injuries. National Shoe The World Day helps educate people about this.

So my dad produced this family tree out of seemingly nowhere this month, that goes back to the 1600s and even names some of the ships our ancestors left England on for the colonies. The tree was drawn up for I think my grandfather's uncle? It gets fuzzy because my dad's parents were related, cousins removed by a generation.
Somewhere back there is the first governor of Rhode Island under the royal charter of 1663. Dude had 8 children who survived to adulthood and had kids of their own, so he is swimming in descendants and there are probably thousands of them in my generation. So it's not like this is a relative that we even inherited a tea set from, let alone someone close enough to have directly influenced my family's lives.
But he WAS an ancestor, and he also very clearly took part in the ongoing colonization of the Naragansett, Wampanoag, and Patuxet. Like he has a Wikipedia page and everything, so even nonhistorians can easily see what he was up to.
My mom's family were all Austrian for a generation behind her, Austro-Hungarian before that for a few more, and then eventually back to Russia. (Far enough back one was a really prominent Russian rabbi.) So in the "were my ancestors complicit in atrocities" Olympics, I can breathe pretty easy on that side.
On my dad's side, we've only ever really talked about the knotted branches of the Scottish family tree, the ones who were maybe criminals and came over in the late 19th century and were cowboys for a bit before settling in Southern California (that family home is now a lovely hotel).
But I've suspected for a while that some of my dad's family were here longer than that. My grandmother was born in 1922 and her family was already pretty prominent in their Connecticut city, and that doesn't happen quickly in New England.
And sure enough, we weren't just here long enough ago that owning slaves was still legal in the North, we were fucking colonizers. No one on the Mayflower that I know of but several boats right around the same time.
So that's what I'm thinking about this Thanksgiving, while also reading a book about Native American religion and philosophy as it relates to living through an apocalypse. I'm a little cash poor right now but I am gonna squeeze together a donation or two to give to groups like the Manna-Hatta fund and Landback.org
And keep learning and uncovering.

Donate Your Car to Charity in California: Tax Benefits and FAQs
Donating a car to charity in California is a generous way to support important causes, and it can also provide you with a tax benefit if done correctly. For many, donating a car is an ideal way to give back to the community without the hassle of selling. But how exactly does the donation process work? What are the tax benefits, and what should you know before you donate?
In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about donating your car to charity in California, from tax advantages to frequently asked questions.
Why Donate Your Car to Charity in California?
If you have a car you no longer use or need, donating it to a charity can make a significant impact. Here are some of the top reasons Californians choose to donate their cars:
Support Nonprofits: Charities use car donations to raise funds that support their programs, whether for community assistance, environmental protection, or health initiatives.
Potential Tax Deduction: Donating a car can provide you with a tax benefit if the organization is a qualified 501(c)(3) charity.
Convenience: Donating is often simpler than selling. Many charities offer free towing and handle all necessary paperwork.
Tax Benefits of Donating Your Car to Charity in California
One of the biggest advantages of donating your car is the potential for a tax deduction. Here’s how you can make the most of this benefit:
How the Tax Deduction Works
To receive a tax deduction when you donate your car to charity in California, the organization must be an IRS-qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The amount you can deduct generally depends on what the charity does with the vehicle:
If the Charity Sells the Car: In most cases, the charity will sell the donated car, often at auction. If this happens, you can deduct the amount for which the charity sells the car. For example, if the charity sells it for $2,000, that amount becomes your deductible amount.
If the Charity Uses the Car: Some charities use donated vehicles in their operations or give them to individuals in need. In these cases, you can typically deduct the fair market value of the car.
IRS Requirements for High-Value Donations: For cars valued over $5,000, the IRS may require a qualified appraisal. This ensures that the fair market value accurately reflects the car’s worth.
Important Steps to Claim Your Deduction
To make sure you’re eligible for a tax deduction, follow these steps:
Obtain a Written Acknowledgment: The charity should provide a written acknowledgment of the donation, specifying whether the car was sold or retained for use.
File IRS Form 8283: If your donation exceeds $500, you’ll need to file IRS Form 8283 along with your tax return.
Keep All Documentation: Keep the title transfer paperwork and receipt from the charity as part of your tax records.
How to Donate Your Car to Charity in California
The process to donate your car is generally straightforward, but each step is important for a smooth transaction.
Step 1: Choose a Reputable Charity
When you decide to donate your car to charity in California, start by selecting a reputable nonprofit. Only donations to qualified 501(c)(3) organizations are tax-deductible, so it’s essential to verify the charity’s status.
Check for 501(c)(3) Status: Use the IRS website to confirm the charity’s eligibility.
Research the Organization: Websites like Charity Navigator or Guidestar provide information about a charity’s operations and financial transparency.
Step 2: Confirm Your Car’s Eligibility
Each charity may have different requirements for the types of vehicles they accept, so make sure your car meets these standards.
Running Condition: Some charities only accept cars in good condition, while others can accept non-operational vehicles.
Vehicle Types: In addition to cars, many charities accept trucks, motorcycles, boats, and even RVs. Check with the charity to see if they accept the type of vehicle you have.
Step 3: Arrange for Pickup or Drop-Off
Most California charities offer free pickup or towing for donated cars, making it easy for you to donate without moving the vehicle.
Schedule Pickup: Contact the charity to arrange a convenient pickup time.
Prepare the Vehicle: Remove any personal items and ensure the car is ready for transfer.
Step 4: Complete the Title Transfer
When donating a car, transferring the title is crucial to releasing yourself from liability and ensuring the charity legally owns the car.
Sign Over the Title: Fill out the necessary fields on the title to transfer ownership to the charity.
File a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability: In California, you should file a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability with the DMV. This step protects you from any future liability related to the vehicle.
Step 5: Obtain a Donation Receipt
After the charity receives your car, they should provide you with a donation receipt. This document is essential for claiming your tax deduction.
Frequently Asked Questions About Donating a Car in California
Do I Need the Car’s Title to Donate?
Yes, you generally need the car’s title to complete the donation. If you’ve misplaced the title, you can request a replacement from the California DMV.
How Much Will I Save on My Taxes?
The tax deduction amount varies based on whether the charity sells or keeps the car. Consult a tax advisor to determine the exact savings based on your situation.
Can I Donate a Car That Doesn’t Run?
Many California charities accept non-running vehicles as long as they have access to towing services. It’s a good idea to confirm this with the organization.
How Quickly Can I Donate My Car?
The donation process is typically fast. Many charities can pick up the vehicle within a week of your request, depending on your location and their schedule.
What Happens to the Car After Donation?
After you donate your car to charity in California, the charity will either sell it to fund their programs, use it for operations, or pass it on to someone in need. The specific outcome depends on the organization’s needs and mission.
Key Benefits of Donating Your Car to Charity in California
Donating your car offers benefits beyond tax deductions. Here’s a summary of the advantages:
Supporting a Good Cause: Your donation can provide essential support to causes you believe in, from health services to environmental protection.
Convenience: Donating a car is typically easier than selling. Many charities offer free towing and handle the paperwork, so you can donate with minimal hassle.
Environmental Impact: Donating a car that might otherwise go unused prevents waste and promotes recycling.
Potential Financial Savings: In addition to the tax deduction, donating eliminates the need to pay for ongoing insurance or registration for an unused car.
Donating your car to charity in California is a meaningful and rewarding way to give back to the community. By following these steps, you can ensure your donation goes smoothly and that you receive any potential tax benefits. Whether your goal is to help a cause you believe in or simply free up space in your garage, car donation is a wonderful way to make a positive difference.

Joseph D'Angelo dreams of the days When Italian kids in the Grassmarket played We burned out his shop when the boys went to war But auld Joe’s a big man and he forgave all
By the time Eduardo was released it was 1943 and he began attending Edinburgh College of Art before moving to London and feigned madness to secure his release from army duties in order that he could study sculpture at the Slade School of Fine Art from 1944 to 1947.
Eduardo Paolozzi suffered a serious stroke in 2001 and he died in a hospital in London on this dayin April 2005.
Pics are of the man and his work, the second is with John Cleese at his 70th birthday party.

When We Say Yes to God
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”1
God's simple requests are often steppingstones to life's greatest blessings. When Peter agreed to fulfill the Lord's two small requests, his entire mission changed from fisher of fish to fisher of men.
A tiring and unproductive night of work undoubtedly left Peter tired (Luke 5:5). However, he gladly accepted Jesus on board and moved his boat so that Jesus' words would reach the crowd. After giving his message, Jesus told Peter to go out into deeper water, even though it was not the right time. Despite the hour, Peter obeyed and was blessed with not one, but two loads of fish.
Often, God's blessings result from our obedience to seemingly insignificant requests.
If Peter had refused to lend his boat to Jesus or risk going fishing at noon, he would have missed out on the blessing of a great catch, and perhaps the opportunity to be an apostle.
Over the next few years, Peter personally witnessed miracles more spectacular than the one he saw that first day. Honoring Christ's first request led to the sermon at Pentecost and the salvation of about 3,000 souls (Acts 2:14 "41).
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for today's message. Help me see where in my life I haven't said "yes" to you yet. Help me to see those opportunities hidden in the small details of my daily routine where I can say "yes" to you. And may every "yes" be out of love for You and to serve others. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
Luke 5:4-5 (NIV).
