As much as I love wrestling, current day stuff has gotten so boring. Maybe the up coming draft for WWE side of things will be enough for a while to keep me entertained. I’m loving AEW lately. I love podcasts. I love podcasts so much. I wish I was able to come up with a more coherent way to say what I want to but I am sleepy and words are hard. But some of the best stories I’ve heard in a long time are in podcasts. Some of my favorite characters are from podcasts. The first representation I ever saw of any of my identities was in podcasts. Podcasts have made me laugh. Podcasts have made me cry. Podcasts have given me Big Emotions that I don’t have the names for. Podcasts are so good guys. I just love podcasts so much.

7. do you care about your ethnicity?

hooo boy yes. yes i do. very much. my dad is half cuban, and his father and grandmother and grandfather sort of snuck onto one of the last planes out of the country when castro took power, thinking they’d be back in a few weeks when everything blew over.

everything did not “blow over”. none of them ever went back.

whenever i see pictures of cuba i get weirdly nostalgic for something i’ve never experienced. i read a lot of ernest hemingway and i eat a lot of the cuban food my dad makes and i try to pick up what spanish i can and i hope that one day (maybe soon!! now that the castros are dead) i can see it.

my mom immigrated to the us from trinidad, which is an island in the carribean with a very distinct culture. i am lucky enough to have been twice, once when i was four and again last summer. it’s indescribably gorgeous and nearly everyone there is mixed (usually black and something else, like me) which is incredible, and honestly i’d never realized that i felt out of place until i felt like i belonged.

lots of good food there too, with heavy influence from france and india and greece, jamaica, etc- rotis, gyros, shark and bake (my FAVORITE), cheese paste sandwiches, buss up shut.

oh, and the accent. the slang. to be quite honest i’m not sure anyone not from there or not exposed to it would be able to tell they’re speaking english. and i love it.

9. are you an artist?

i draw when i can, although i don’t think i’d consider myself an artist. however i did design the tattoo i’m getting on saturday!

11. describe your ideal day.

okay um so. this one’s kind of hard. but i think. i think…

i wake up in sandy sheets and come downstairs. i have fruit for breakfast. i spend the whole first half of the day surfing. i’m not very good and i fall off all the time, but i see a school of stingrays and a pod of dolphins jumping miles and miles off the coast.

i think the rest of the day is spent wandering around kitty hawk, eating lunch at the obx pier, playing with my cat. i get pizza for dinner and have friends over to watch a studio ghibli movie- doesn’t matter which one :)
