Roy/Jaime fic idea: Jaime is super late to training one morning and everyone is annoyed because a huge game is coming up. Everyone is already out on the pitch when Jaime finally appears, but all anger goes out the window when he emerges from the tunnel still dressed in his street clothes, with a tiny little bundle cradled in his arms. Tartt Sr. had shown up just as Jaime was about to head in, unceremoniously presenting Jaime with his new baby sibling, paperwork signing over custody, and a hospital bag of baby essentials before he fucked off back to Manchester without a glance back. Needless to say training is cancelled that day, as everyone basically falls over themselves to help Jaime and the new little Tartt, especially Roy who falls into the role of protector and partner in the span of a breath.

I have so many thoughts and emotions about it but for now....please have this little drabble I wrote about it (and that @f1-birb is trying to make me write a fic for)

"Is that Jamie?" "Fuckin finally man" "Wait...whys he dressed normal like?" Roy growls, turning away from where he was leading the second team through a drill to look towards the tunnel and sure enough, Jamie is there at the opening. He's dressed in street clothes, but that's not what catches Roy's attention. No. Jamie is holding what looks like something small and swaddled and Roy is moving in an instant. As he gets closer, out pacing Ted and Beard despite his knee, he can hear Ted calling for him to stop but Roy doesn't. He doesn't stop until he's standing in front of a very tense, very distraught and confused looking Jamie who can't tear his eyes off the baby in his arms that can't be more than a week old. "Tartt, oi, Jamie", Roy calls softly, not wanting to wake the sleeping baby, "where'd'ya get the kid? Is it...." "Is not mine...well he is, but he isn't", Jamie stutters, eyebrows pinched together, "Me dad, yeah? Showed up at me 'ouse and he...he had this babeh and he just left 'im to me. Says he's my brother and just leaves. Left me some papers, legally he's mine, but Coach...Roy....I can't" Jamie is on the verge of a panic attack, his distressed making the baby in his arms start to wake and Roy can hear the team murmuring behind him. "Jamie", Roy drops his voice low, knowing it'll catch Jamie's attention as he gently grabs the back of Jamie's neck, "breath" The touch has Jamie melting. He's stepping closer to Roy until his head hits his shoulder, and both him and the baby are shielded by Roy as Jamie's shakes. Roy keeps his grip gentle, thumb soothing the tense muscles in his neck as Jamie sniffles. "What's his name?" "Charlie"

"How old?" Roy asks, peering down at little Charlie as Jamie lifts his head from Roy's shoulder, and Roy pretends he doesn't miss the weight of it. "Ten days, his mum don't want 'im and me dad....well he'd rather drink than spend moneh on his kids," Jamie replied, adjusting his hold of Charlie and rocking him softly. "Ten days old and he's already better looking than you, that's a good start to life", Roy hums, watching as the joke gets a smile off of Jamie and little laugh. And that laugh is all the team need to come closer. Dani reaches them first, his grin so wide Roy is genuinely worried the kid is gonna split his face in half as he almost vibrates with joy. "Oh, oh, it's a baby. How beautiful, our Jamie is a dad!"

i've been thinking about a sagau x monster prom crossover for DAYS

usually my brainworms give up by now but nooooooo

it's just nonstop so i'm gonna share some of it with you in hopes that it'll either go away or at least give someone some amusement

the main premise is god!reader being a member of the cast, not one of the main prospects but they show up a lot (or they are one of the options but, y'know, like the most difficult route bc the requirements need like a perfect run to meet & even then it's treated as a one off thing (you're devoted to your people/protecting this poor soul from them))

the entire cult was isekai'd and the others can make appearances, but you tend to try and avoid intervention bc you know this is a game and you don't know if it also counts as yours (either way you're pretty set as teyvat's god and you don't think they're willing to share, gotta protect the world, the coven would be proud)

i see the cast seeing you as kinda boring in the 'doesn't resort to violence, murder, or drugs and actually gives a damn about the less fortunate????' but also that puts you closer to the 'must protect' category with blobbert and scott

zoe is the only one who actually knows that you're mx god of gods and the two of you vibe on being more ancient and powerful than everyone else while usually being depicted as the more normal or harmless than the rest (aside from particular moments, like Zoe lashing out, but those are triggered by an outside source)

The End of the War - College AU! One Shot - by @redgillan There’s nothing quite like a enemies to lovers trope that’s well-written. But then throw in fight club, a jerk date, ice-cream and pizza - just read it. You’ll understand then. 

The Edge of the Water - Mermaid AU! Series - @floatingpetals I have to admit now, I haven’t read all of this yet. But I also have to say, what I have read was fantastic. Mermaids - and Mermen - they just hit different, you know? 

Pseudo Princess - Medieval AU! Series - by @shreddedparchment​ To date, it’s one of the best fics - nay - stories I’ve ever read. I’d dare to say it’s easily the length of a novel, so if you’re up for the long haul, I’d definitely recommend it. It’s worth the wait - trust me. Op obviously put a hella lot of work into it, and it shows.

How to Play as Teba AKA Birb Favouritism By Kip

This was too big to fit in an ask so here ya go anon!

A handsombe birb with a bow and a little patience, constantly in a power squat with enough spite to rival Ganon: Here’s your guide to the best main in Age of Calamity 

Teba is so good he’s so fast and so quick like omfg holy shit those strong attack damage output fucking crowd control AND is faster than Revali and pretty much everyone else at breaking weak point gauges like holy FUCK man So don’t let the chaotic attacks fool you! 

Considering you are here and asking yourself: How the fuck do I play as birb dad? You’ve probably encountered one of two problems that prevent you from taking advantage of him. 1) wth are these attacks is he even doing damage to this moblin??? I can’t comprehend these combos because I don’t know what is going on plz I just want to shoot arrows or 2) Where the fuck IS he I can’t fucking SEE anything?!?! where did he GO I’m getting motion sick

Well friend, here I am to help you with both of those problems to help you 1) Understand what the fuck is going on and 2) Find out where the fuck he came from, and where the fuck he go, cotton eye joe

His Y stream is straight forward, quite literally. You’ll notice very quickly that his attacks move his character forward, rather than being more still and stationary like Revali or Zelda(slate). I’m pretty sure his Y stream (as in, a pure Y combo with no X/strong attacks) has the furthest distance in the game, perhaps rivaled only by Riju. So basically, save your big Y combos for crowd control and NOT bosses like Moblins and the such. You don’t want to move your directional input too much, since his attacks have incredible distance and range already.

Y-Y-Y-Y-Y-Y: Sweep left, sweep right, charge forward, mid-air arrows forward, stomp land, large spiral forward, flash stomp to ground, to an ending backflip. 

You can see the distance here, again, with no directional input at all. Just pressing Y.

So just remember that even though the attack looks very chaotic, it’s really just a big fat straight line. 

In all honesty though, you could forget about his Y stream all together. Any benefit to them is basically trumped by his different combos which are superior in both one-on-one battles, and crowd control. 

Technically on it’s own, Teba’s combos are just good. He’s got a wind stream here and a loop twirl there. But what makes his combos arguably one of the most powerful in the game, is this ability here

This is pretty much the single handedly the most powerful perk Teba has, and it’s not even his Unique Action! It’s slightly similar to Link’s additional X action, but better in everyway. One of the draw backs of many strong attack combos are the slower speed it takes to dish it out, but this perk basically makes that draw back obsolete. It not only gives you insane additional damage, but also doubles, if not triples the length of a combo. Not to mention that half his move set is in mid-air, so the longer your combo is, the more time you’re off the ground and not taking damage. Basically, this equals fast damage for as long a length of time as you want. So! Onto the specifics

= = = = = = = = = = 

Y-X: Wind Stream. Functions essentially the same as a Y5 (spiral forward) combo, except slower. Its strength, however, lies in your additional X input, which puts you in mid air and allows you to do what I like to call an

Additional X: Arrow Pivot. You’ll know when you do it when the “Press X repeatedly” option comes up. And the end of his wind stream, Teba flies into the air and, with directional input, fires a barrage of and enemies below him up to a 360 degree movement. Final shot will be of a bomb arrow dealing additional AOE damage. You can spam the arrows for around 4 seconds in midair before it forces the bomb arrow finisher, but you can force it early by not pressing X or pressing B. In fact, for all future additional X inputs (I’ll be shortening that to AXs from now on) you can stop anytime you want but just pressing B to hover in the air. All his combos have the ability to lead into mid-air state, which can let you ride the wind and do more damage, but I’m getting ahead of myself. 

= = = = = = = = = = = 

Y-Y-X: Bomb Arrows. Teba sweeps left to right before launching into the air to fire seven bomb arrows (with his LEGS BY THE WAY) in a wide area in front of him. Deals AOE damage, of course.

AX: Instead of immediately going to bomb arrows, Teba will rapidly fire normal arrows (at your X mashing input) and can (optionally) fly forward while doing so at your directional control. This is honestly his best combo in my opinion because it not only is the best for crowd control, but is also one of the quickest ways to deplete any weak point gauges. Just remember to keep him stationary and not fly forward if you’re doing one-on-one, as you might just accidentally fly away from your enemy 

= = = = = = = = = = 

Y-Y-Y-X: Wind Bomb. Not to be confused with the speed running strategy Teba hovers in mid air and fires one massive stream of wind with a bomb arrow. It’s trail also does damage and drags enemies. Deals a LOT of damage, I believe it’s his strongest?

AX: Instead of immediately firing the wind bomb, he will fire normal arrows, but still enhanced with the wind effect. You can control the direction of any of the arrows with the controller. The finisher will be the wind bomb. While this combo deals a LOT of damage (like two normal arrow streams can take out a solid chunk of weak point gauge) It’s the slowest attack in his arsenal. There’s a larger time between each arrow strike, and if you use the full AX combo it keeps him hovering in the air for like 5 seconds, which leaves Teba pretty vulnerable. If you’re using this attack, don’t bother waiting for the wind bomb finisher and end the attack early. So while it’s technically Teba’s “strongest” in terms of damage, I wouldn’t call it his best

Y-Y-Y-Y-X: The Teba Tornado. Ok THIS is the move that has been ridiculed to death because of how chaotic it is. Teba basically swirls around in a circle and sucks any enemies into his little tornado, and then finishes with a gust of wind upwards

AX: Extends the time of the Teba Tornado, and control it’s direction, lasts for about 9-10 tornado swirls. 

DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT LOCK ONTO AN ENEMY WITH THIS MOVE. You will DIE of motion sickness, probably. Ok I mean, you could lock onto an enemy, but that’s not what this move is for. It’s intent is for gathering huge swarms of enemies into one place. The camera zooms out for a reason! It’s great for crowd control, but terrible for one-on-one. Control the movement of the tornado by moving based on the “eye” of the tornado, and not based on where Teba’s character actually is. I still stand by the fact that YYAX combo is superior, as it has better control and is much faster, but hey, this move aint all that bad once you learn how to use it

= = = = = = = = = = 

Y-Y-Y-Y-Y-X and Y-Y-Y-Y-Y-Y-X: Arrow Strike. This is the only combo that forces you into the AX “Press X repeatedly” state. Teba does his little Y stream thing, before launching high into the air, where you are then given a circle. Move the circle around while rapidly pressing X to fire arrows wherever you choose. Ends with a bomb arrow

Note that this attack will basically make Teba invincible. This is his highest attack, and even mid air attacks won’t reach him in this state. It’s also the longest lasting combo, giving you about 7 seconds to deal as much damage as you wish. Take full advantage of this. Excellent for weak point gauges, but the set up Y attacks do take time, so make sure to use stasis.

Dash-Y: Small AOE stomp. Nothing to write home about, not that much damage. Just your average set up for the combos that will actually do damage

= = = = = = = = = = 

Dash-X: Flips over enemies and fires arrows before continuing forward. Honestly looks pretty badass, similar to that backflip Revali does when he was about to assassinate Link. Anyhow, good for when you just want to kill something small but have places to be so it keeps your momentum forward.

= = = = = = = = = = 

X/AX: Fires arrows high into the air. After some time, the arrows will rain back down in front of you in an amount dependent on how badly you mashed X. (Note that the arrows will always land in front of you, so if you shoot off the arrows in one direction, but then turn around in another direction, the arrows will still land in front of Teba) Ends with bomb arrows. Pretty good if you want to stack the damage with a timed combo. Also automatically strikes onto big enemies if you’ve locked onto them. Good for one-on-ones but don’t rely on it solely. 

A really good thing about Teba’s strong combos is that ALL of them are mid-air, meaning you can instantly continue any combo with your aerial attacks. As usual, your aerial combo is just Y-Y-Y-X

Aerial Y: Fires arrows in front of you. You can press Y up to three times before you’re forced into the ground

Aerial X: Teba stomps onto the ground with his talons with the aide of a gust of wind. Deals AOE.

Special Attack: Teba gives a thumbs up of encouragement before murdering everything in his line of sight. (Damages enemies in a direct line in front of him, plus AOE)

So that’s all of Teba’s attacks. Teba’s combos are really fast with that AX damage. A good stasis plus a barrage of YYX will guarentee you a weak point break, and even if you’re slow on it, just tacking on the aerial combo will definetly break it, or at least deal headshot damage cause again, everything is midair. 

Speaking of stasis, here be the Sheikah Rune set, which is ALSO arguably the best in the game.

Stasis: Upon activation, little crosshairs will appear on your screen. Use the controller or motion controls to highlight as many enemies as you wish, and when you press X to activate, all will be stasised. Not only is this overpowered considering you can stasis as many enemies as you wish, but you also can automatically head into a combo as there is no attack animation that you need to dash cancel out of. It is also the longest lasting stasis in the game. 

Cryonis: ITS A FREE FORCEFIELD! Unlike other characters, this doesn’t spawn a usable cryonis block for you to jump off of (because *stares at Teba’s pretty much pure mid-air move set* he doesn’t need it) but instead, spawns three ice blocks that encircle you. I know that it might seem like you have to position yourself so that you have to wait until the block goes directly in front of you for it to properly counter, but don’t worry. It’ll counter all cryonis weak attacks, (by EXPLODING >:D) even if it looks like an enemy is striking you in the gap between the blocks. 

This is the quickest cryonis spawn in the game, capable of countering enemies even the singular second before they hit you with their cryonis weak attack. But other than countering those ice attacks, doesn’t do anything. Still pretty great though! 

= = = = = = = = = = 

Bombs: Teba gets a fancy Sheikah Bow, launches into mid air, and you can aim with the controller/motion to launch a powerful bomb at an enemy/horde. It is guaranteed to expose an enemy weak point gauge, regardless of whether the enemy is using it’s specific bomb counter attack. Like the Y5X combo, this positions Teba at the highest point in the air, making him immune to damage. SO not only is this a good rune for great damage and countering, it’s also a quick dodge for  if you’re in a lick of trouble. You can move out of this rune into an aerial combo/riding the wind as well. 

= = = = = = = = = = 

Magnesis: eh. It’s there. It counters weapons. It does its job. If your enemies have metal weapons it makes a little magnet storm. I was too lazy to bother getting a group of enemies with metal weapons because I killed them all with one Y sweep and didn’t feel like restarting the level. It’s magnesis. What do ya want from me. Nothings gonna rivals Slate Zelda’s magnesis combo anyhow. 

And last but not least, Unique Action! Teba can charge up his bow with ZR to deal arrow attacks that get stronger the more you charge. There are four stages indicated by a little “ding!” and also the visuals showing wind forming around Teba. 

Charge one: Fires three arrows. Pretty basic, although it has a longer range than a normal attack

Charge two: Fires five arrows, again with a large distance and higher damage than a usual Y attack

= = = = = = = = = = 

Charge three: Fires a LOT of arrows covering 180 degrees in front of Teba. Very good for clearing out crowds if you couldn’t tell

= = = = = = = = = = 

Charge four: Fires 180 degrees of bomb arrows, as well as bomb arrows into the air AS WELL as bombarding the battle field with bomb arrows from above for the next 8-10 seconds or so. 

Charge four is really what you’re looking for, although three isn’t so bad either. But there really is no excuse to not use Charge four because Teba’s Unique Action can charge at any time. So long as you’re holding ZR, whether you’re in the middle of a combo, doing aerials, blocking, running away-- the attack will be charging. And you can hold it for as long as you wish. Charge four is very very very good so always be holding down that ZR and releasing it and recharging and re-releasing. You can’t be damaged by your own explosions and you really have nothing to lose.

SO what now? Well know that you fully understand what my birb dad is capable off, here’s what to stick to. 

If you got a giant horde of bokoblins or something, just us a Y-Y-AX and go ham. It’s like a giant broom that sweeps the battlefield, doing a lot of damage. 

Stasis is your friend and your best friend and your only friend. IF you’re fighting two bosses, it’s in your best interest to use stasis to halt both of them and more. Use stasis during weak point gauges to lengthen your time which, combined with Teba’s AX attack speed, with guarantee you a break pretty much every time you use it

Even if you don’t stasis during a weak point break, stasised enemies are a good enough time to use that YYYX combo as even though it’s more vulnerable and slow as I said, when you have the ability to stasis all of your enemies, it’s as good a time as enemies to deal that big damage.

Don’t use your Charge four on stasised enemies. I mean, you can, but it’s really better for when you’re in the middle fo battle, clearing the battle field, and dealing damage even while you’re dodging. 

Don’t lock onto enemies. It just makes it easier all around. Teba like to move, let the birb move. Don’t limit him to the bird cage of the focused camera movement, it’s just easier for everyone to move the camera manually. You can snap it on and off just to focus if you want. But personal experience says it’s easier just to learn how to move the camera you lazy bum

Bomb rune is very good. It’s a free weak point stun, and a free dodge. Use it

When breaking weak point, just use the YYX combo. Yes, the Y5X is good, but honestly they’ll both get the job done, so might as well do the quicker combo and save Y5X for crowd clearing. Besides, even if your YYX doesn’t immediately clear the guage (becuase you’re SLOW at button mashing for some reason) you can continue with an aerial combo

Ending a combo and letting the final animation fully finish will drop you to the ground. Don’t. Let the final animation finish and then immediately press B, or B cancel before the final attack starts. This is because you suck on the ground cause you’re a bird. Pressing B allows you to automatically go into glide state/”ride the wind”, giving you better time to glide away to safety, or lead into an aerial combo

Your unique action charge attack can be fired even in mid air. Note that weak point smashes, special attacks, and runes will cancel any charges you make

My personal favourite combo for levels are using stasis, YYX sweep for damage, then while stasis is still going, charging and releasing a Charge Four arrow, then finish by setting up a 5YX combo. That pretty much clears all hordes, then just stasis a boss’ gauge, hold ZR while I do a YYX plus aerial, boss is stunned, use the Charge Four arrow, fall back and do some normal X attack or Ys, then finish off with the weak point.

For his seals, I’d say invest in mid-air attack damage, strong attack damage, or attack speed.  

Teba’s final Falcon Bow seal bonuses are:

Midair attack damage (Star)

Damage to foes with status effects (Star) [this is pretty useless ngl]

So I’d say stick with mid-air attack just to get the seal bonus, but don’t put all four as it, as it’ll just waste a seal slot as there’s no bonus for 5 of the same seal. So I say 3 mid-air attack, and 1 strong attack damage. But then again it’s all up for preference! 3 strong attacks plus a single star seal isn’t gonna be a bad match either

Pretty much the most powerful thing about Teba is his ability to smash a weak point pretty much the instant an enemy is down. So use his stasis and combos often. 

Although obvious his general crowd control is pretty great too! He’s jut a really well rounded character that is pretty broken and honestly rivals Impa imo

The more arrows on screen, the more chance that fps may tank...just saying. BUT! It’s not really to a rate that’s that detrimental to the experience of playing as him. Just goes to show how overpower he can be if you push yourself enough

Just Finished RWBY Volume 4...

...and I actually liked it?

I mean, from what I've heard the Volume gets a lot of flack but honestly? I don't think it deserves it.

Yes, this is the first volume without Monty, and yes, the fights lost a bit of their momentum compared to earlier volumes, but aside from that... it's actually pretty good?

Alright, let me give you the play by play character style.

Ruby Rose

There goes my baby... off to destroy evil.

Ruby hasn't changed much, at least to a noticeable degree, compared to the rest of the cast. Actually, no, that isn't true, she just hasn't changed in a way that would force her overall character to noticeably shift. And I think that's fine. She's still a child at times, and is still really optimistic. But the thing is, she has matured. She doesn't immediately jump head first into danger like she used to, and it's clear she's still trying to process what happened at the Fall of Beacon. And yet, she's pressing on, and I'm glad that she and the rest of Team RNJR have each other's backs.

My only concern is what will go down in Mistral...

Weiss Schnee

Welp, Jacques Schnee, congrats! You've joined Cinder and Adam on the hit list I'm writing up!

The a-hole aside, I really like how Weiss played out this volume. According to what I've heard, volume 4 took place about 6-8 months after Beacon, so I'm kinda sad that Weiss was stuck home for all that time. On the bright side, we get a look at her progress on her summons, which looks to be coming along quite nicely. Then we see the concert, and ooh does that make my blood boil. I'll get to Jacques in a bit, but personally, I'd have no qualms watching him burn, figuratively, or literally.

Fly, Weiss, fly from the coup. Give your bastard of a father the metaphorical middle finger he deserves! (P.S. Klein is best dad.)

Blake Belladonna

Oof. I hurteth.

So Blake tends to stay away out of fear that she'll hurt her friends (i.e. some alternate version of survivor's guilt). In order to make amends from her point of view, she heads home to Menagerie. And once again, we're reminded on why humanity sucks sometimes!

Humans: Here, have this desert island for your large spanning species that covers just as much ground as we do.

Faunus: But... but it's so small!

Humans: Is it? Oh well, we can't have everything!

Me: Y'all LITERALLY have several freaKING CONTINENTS-!

*Ahem* That said, Sun came along! And we met Blake's parents! But first, Sun; I'll admit, I had mixed feelings about him being there at first, but that was mostly because Blake was being angsty and despite Sun's best intentions, virtually nothing he did help. Although, towards the end of the Volume, he managed to help Blake realize why her way of thinking was wrong, so props to him for that. Uh, Sun, could you maybe knock like a normal person? Wait, Blake, DON'T SLAP HIM FOR IT!!!

Ah, Kali, you're just as chaotic as Sun, oh dear... Ghira, never change, man. Never change.

Yang Xiao Long

Oof. I hurteth again. (ADAM!! LET ME DESTROY YOU, DANGIT!!!)

So Yang has been... adjusting to life after Beacon and without an arm. Oh, and Adam gave her PTSD! Isn't that just swell?

[When the find your corpse it'll have Wilt running through your spine and your skull severed with bullet shots from Blush I swear-]

Luckily, Yang gets a prosthetic from Atlas. I was afraid she'd reject it, but it's actually kinda nice to see that she takes to it rather well. And after seeing Oobleck (YAY!) and Port again, it's cool that she's just trying to find her footing. Though, Tai, you might wanna consider NOT flying to close to the Sun Dragon, capiche?

And all this culminates in Yang finally getting back out in the end of the Volume, hoping to find some answers. Hopefully she takes Tai's words to heart.

Jaune Arc

IT'S BIG BOI SWORD HOURS!!

But seriously, it was... kinda off-putting to see Jaune act so... morose. Granted, we all know why (PYRRHA!!!), but still. I'm glad his team is looking out for him and that he's slowly starting to recover like everyone else. His conversation with Ruby in Kuroyuri was also really touching. Come to think of it, didn't Blake have a similar conversation with Sun? The PARALLELS!

Also, that upgrade, tho. CUT THAT NUCKELAVEE INTO DUST, MY DUDE!!!

Nora Valkyrie+Lie Ren

You can't talk about one without bringing up the other.

Guys, this was as much a Renora volume as it was a RWBY-Post Beacon volume. The Fall triggers some odd behavior in Ren, but we figure out why pretty quickly once we reach the Kuroyuri episode.

First, young Ren and Nora... adorable!

Second, I was NOT ready for when Nora had to talk Ren out of charging blindly at the Nuckelavee. The slap. The way Ren sees young Nora and then sees current Nora. Nothing could prepare me. Nothing.

They are so SOFT together, it's just... <3

New Characters (and Old ones, too)

Lightning round, baby!

Qrow Branwen. So Qrow serves as the inside man. He knows what's been going on, and he fills the rest of us in. We also know why he tends to keep his distance, because his semblance brings bad luck to allies and enemies alike. The poor birb. Glad he managed to survive Tyrian!

Jacques Schnee. Egotistical manipulative piece of garbage whom I will not feel sorry for once he's put in his place. 'Nuff said.

Whitley Schnee. Mixed feelings. Mixed feelings everywhere. 'Cause on one hand, I've seen plenty of the fandom's takes on his character putting him in a positive light, but on the other he starts getting kind of unbearable after Weiss loses her title as heiress. Then I have to remind myself that Whitley is the "Fawn" reaction to trauma. Weiss is "Fight," Winter is "Flight," their mother is "Freeze," and Whitley is "Fawn." Stuff like that helps me contextualize that when Whitley says things about their dad like "It's foolish to not do what father asks," or "It's barbaric. It's beneath me. Beneath father," Whitley's not just saying that 'cause he's a bit of a brat. That's his coping mechanism to the abuse Jacques put him and the rest of his family through, and it's probably been a long time that he's been telling himself stuff like this so he can keep in his father's good graces and not risk getting a slap to the face like Weiss, while also trying to deal with the fact that Weiss and Winter get a freedom that he never had a chance to get. And you have to remember that Winter and Weiss were abused to, and that trying to blame Whitley's current condition on the two of them doesn't make things any better. They're not obligated to care about Whitley just as much as Whitley isn't obligated to care about them. It would be nice if either one of them could get through to him, but they were all trying to combat Jacques in one way or another. Whitley was just the odd one out. And if you really think about it, the biggest brain play you can take from all this is to blame it solely on Jacques. I swear, when I get to Volume 4 in my NWBE AU, one of my top priorities will be getting Whitley the ever loving hell out of that accursed mansion alongside Weiss, mark my words.

Klein Sieben. Ladies and gentleman, the only valid man under the Schnee roof! And a Seven Dwarves reference no less. Thanks, I love him! Glad he helped Weiss escape his father's clutches.

James Ironwood. Oh boy, boss man is starting to lose his grip on things. Granted, he's trying to do the right thing, but it's clear his paranoia is getting to him. You know crap is getting bad if the most valid person in all of Atlas simultaneously needs to be told to get a grip from Jacques of all people (especially if he's making a point). Hope this doesn't trigger a downward spiral...

Ghira and Kali Belladonna. Ghira is done and Kali just wants to have fun. I love their dynamic and interactions with Blake and Sun! It was a nice wind down from everything else going on, though I don't think that'll last for long.

White Fang. So we got three more WF members: Fennec, Corsac, and Ilia. The Albain brothers are sleezeballs already, since they're working with Adam and all. Ilia's working with them too, but I'll have to withhold my judgement since she appears to have an as yet undisclosed connection to Blake, but I don't want to get my hopes up since she already stabbed Sun, so... Low expectations, but still expectations.

Salem's Group. Yup, Salem's a villain alright. I'll be keeping my eye on her, she just reeks of trouble. Cinder apparently lost her voice... eh, probably for the best. Emerald, Mercury, get the ever-loving FRICK outta there, you're clearly out of your element! Hazel, you're... fascinating. Neutral Evil, perhaps? Watts, you're on my radar, especially with the last episode of the Volume. And Tyrian... well, he's clearly beyond the point of no return, entirely devoted to Salem, and his psycho-sadistic tendencies are enough to freak Cinder of all people out. Needless to say, I hope something or someone takes care of him before the damage becomes irreversible.

And for now, I'll wrap this up with Oscar Pine. I'll admit, it was interesting how they set up Oscar's character as a slow burn this Volume. We learn he lives a quiet life with his aunt in a barn, and at first we're wondering "Who the heck is this kid?" But then Ozpin shows up and suddenly everything is like "Oh... wait, WHAT!?" So yeah, Ozpin just brought another child into thia conflict. At least they're both not happy about it, and hey, they met Qrow! Hopefully that keeps things from getting too crazy down the line. We still need answers, after all.

Well, those are my thoughts. Sorry they took so long. Hopefully Volume 5 won't be so hard to complete. Well... cheers!

“I bet you’re happy,” Phantom said, looking at the sleeping Mad on the bed, Mare sitting in a chair next to him. “I mean, not about the whole heart-break shut down thing...but...like...they don’t like each other.” Mare didn’t say anything and he hasn’t since telling Phantom what happened after carrying Mad into the room. “He’s going to be okay...right? I mean, I don’t uh...I…” Phantom felt the phone buzz against his chest, he glanced at it before sighing. “Let me know if I can do anything. I don’t...I don’t like seeing you guys hurt like this.” 

“I’m sorry.” Mare finally spoke again, looking at Phantom. “I’m sorry for getting into your private business and breaking your phone and-”

“You already apologized,” Phantom said. 

“I’m sorry for lashing out because you were right.” Mare’s admission made Phantom let out a little sound of surprise. “I’m upset that Mad likes Jackie and not me. That they were getting so close in such a short amount of time compared to the years I’ve known him, that I’ve cared for him, that I’ve…” Mare stopped himself and sniffed. 

“It’s fine.” Phantom chewed on his lip. “I’m…” Phantom made a face before sighing and speaking quickly. “I’m sorry for bringing it up when I knew it’s a soft spot.” 

“It’s been a long time since I’ve heard you apologize.” Mare chuckled. 

“Don’t get used to it.” Phantom rocked on his feet. “I’m...I’m going to go see what the others are doing.” 

“You’re going to call Illinois.” Mare corrected with a little smirk.

“Shut up,” Phantom muttered, his cheeks flushing. 

“Let him know if he does anything stupid, that I’ll kill him slowly,” Mare said.

“That message has been made loud and clear several times.” Phantom looked at the phone again. “I’ll delete everything before I give the phone back.” 

“You don’t want me to see the dick pics?” 

“There are not!” Phantom was now bright red. “Shut up!” He left in a huff while Mare laughed, it slowly fading as he looked at Mad again. 

“I’ll take care of this, Mad. I’ll get Blank back, I’ll get rid of Alice, I’ll get us a nice new home with plenty of room to work and play and…” Mare tilted his head up, looking at the ceiling. “Our own bedrooms with no need to always be...together.” Mare closed his eye, suddenly very tired. “Maybe I’ll...design it a little...different…” Mare drifted off. 

“I took you this long to finally get it?” A voice snapped Mare conscious. He jerked up and was unable to move, ink holding his arms and body to the chair. 

“Alice? Alice!” Mare shouted when Alice was standing in the corner of the room. 

“I thought you were smarter than that.” Alice scoffed, crossing her arms. “But it’s taken you, what, ten years to realize you like Mad?” 

“Let me go, now,” Mare demanded.

“You don’t get to tell me what to do anymore.” Alice twirled her hand around, ink coating it and becoming a sharp point. A blade of sorts “You destroyed your chance long ago.” 

“Where’s Blank?”

“You won’t need to worry about him for too much longer.” 

“What does that mean?” Mare didn’t get a response since Alice only laughed. “You can stop this, it’s not too late.” 

“I know I just said you were stupid, but you and I both know you’re not that dumb.” Alice slowly walked towards Mare. “It is too late, far past too late and there’s only one thing that’ll stop all of this.” Alice was now next to the bed, holding her arm in the air and aiming the blade at Mad’s chest, right at his heart. 

“Alice! Alice, don’t! Don’t!” Mare strained to move, he should be able to break through the ink, he should, but why was it so strong?

“Either I kill all of you or you kill me. No other choice.” Alice giggled and grinned. “Come find me, dad.” Alice plunged her blade down.

“No!” Mare jerked forward and stumbled out of the chair, the slap of reality hitting him hard and making him dizzy. “Wh-What?” Mare looked around and saw nothing. He checked Mad and there was nothing as well. He was fine, he was safe. “She…” Mare felt his stomach churn at the realization. “She gave me a nightmare...how?” Mare wasn’t much time to think before there was a scream, followed by several gunshots.

“Everyone was probably hit with exhaustion when Mad passed out,” Phantom said to Dark, the two standing in the living room, surrounded by sleeping Septiceyes and Ipliers. They were only missing Chase, Marvin, Mare, and Mad. “Me and Mare are used to it and I can see it’s buggin’ you but you’re too much of a hardass to give in.” 

“So they’re just napping?” Dark asked. 

“Yeah. Hell, they’ll probably feel better when they wake up with how shitty Alice has been making the past few nights.” Phantom started texting. 

“She might be using a lack of sleep and the inconsistent pattern…” Dark trailed off when Phantom was clearly not listening and caught up in his phone, chuckling at something before typing away again. “Could that wait?” 

“Nope.” Phantom popped the ‘p’.

“I’m sure your boyfriend is patient.” Dark grinned when he saw the look Phantom made at the word ‘boyfriend’.

“Listen here you mother fu-” Phantom was stopped short by JJ rolling off of the couch. “Dude?” JJ sprang up, one hand on his throat and his eyes staring wide at something.

“JJ, are you...okay?” Dark saw a figure standing at the edge of the room. A young woman with a large smile was staring directly at JJ, a hand slowly traveling up to her mouth. The woman laughed before slamming her palm against her face and forcing her head back, a loud, sickening crack echoing from it.

“Mom!” JJ signed, jabbing at his own chin and falling to his knees. 

“Get JJ, I’ll take care of the woman,” Dark ordered.

“I think the woman took care of herself.” Phantom scoffed, bouncing to the side when something was thrown at him. 

“Get up!” A new woman had appeared behind them, her scream waking up almost everyone. Bim and Yandere were the only ones still down Henrik stumbling away when he saw the new woman. 

“H-How did she find…” Henrik was shaking. 

“Is that? The fuck?” Edward moved in front of Henrik. “Why is your ex-wife here?” 

“She’s not. Cover his eyes and I’ll take care of her.” Dark reached into his pocket and pulled out a knife. 

“There’s more ink!” Phantom pointed at ink pooling from the walls, more people being formed form it as Bim and Yandere woke up.  

“Mom...dad…” Yandere’s face went pale.

“There’s our little boy!” The man cooed. 

“Still obsessed with me?” A different man said in a mocking tone to Bim. 

“JJ, JJ, I’m right here, it’s okay, JJ.” Wilford was holding a sobbing JJ. “Dark! Do something!” 

“I am!” Dark snapped. “Anti, Jackie, get Yandere’s. Phantom, get Bim’s. I’ll take care of JJ’s.” Right when Dark finished, they jumped into action. The people weren’t strong, they didn’t even fight back as they were easily killed. A simple stab to the head and they went down. They weren’t here to kill, they were just here to upset. 

“Why waste her time and energy on this?” Anti scoffed, kicking the body he had killed away from him, it splashing at the contact and flicking ink on his face. “All she did was make a mess.” 

“She’s getting impatient,” Phantom said. “She’s trying to make a point and throw most of us all.”

“Dead parent, cruel parents, ex-wife, and a dick-head.” Jackie listed off, trying to connect all of them. 

“She wanted to break their hearts,” Dark said. “She went more personal rather than violent. Like what she did with the twins.” 

“It still doesn’t-” Anti stiffened when there was a scream. “Mavin?” A gunshot went off. “No!” Anti took off.

I just read a post about Qrow being more angry that Oz kept secrets specifically from him thank anything else, and I agree completely. And I think that James and the rest of their allies in Atlas are going to be a lot more pissed that they were lied to than the information that was withheld- and I can see James as justifying it as they are in war and as a military man, of course he understands that sometimes things that to be kept under wraps. What do you think?

Hello again Miki-chan. Regarding Qrow, in some ways I agree with that point about him being more angry that Oz kept secrets from him specifically.

It would make sense for Qrow to be upset that Oz didn’t tell him everything especially considering that the Branwen man was supposed to be one of his most trusted. 

I mean, I’d like to think that there were probably secrets that Qrow entrustedOzpin with about himself that he never told anyone, not even his family orclosest allies because he gave him that level of trust and respect. So fromthat perspective, I can agree. 

However on the other hand, I more believe the brunt of Qrow’s resentment towards Oz stems from exactly what he said back in V6CH4:

“No one wanted me. I was cursed. I gave my life to you because you gave me a place in this world. I thought I was finally doing some good…”

Qrow’s whole thing is that he considered himself a ‘bad luck charm’ to everyone due to his  semblance and this has been a social stunt for Qrow since, according to him, his semblance has been what has kept him from forming any true meaningful bonds. In the beginning, Qrow probably believed that he would’ve never mounted to anything in his life and that no one would accept him—not even his own tribe—the Branwen Tribe and family..

As Qrow said, Oz was the first person to make him feel worthy. He gave him purpose outside of what he originally believed was going to be his fate. Instead of being a burden to anyone, Qrow finally had someone who actually believed in him and he owed that feeling to Oz.

Learning of Oz’s past must’ve made Qrow realize all the things he turned away in his pursuit of choosing to remain loyal to Oz. Seemingly Qrow is the onlymember of STQR who chose to continue working with Oz all the way intoadulthood. Raven abandoned everyone after she somehow learnt the truth about everything. Tai seemed to have walked away too once Yang came into the picture and Summer appeared to have followed suit after she stepped in to help Tai raise Yang, ultimately resulting in the two falling in love and having a familytogether with Ruby being born as a symbol of their union. As far as Irecall, we’re not really clear on how much Tai or Summer continued to work onOz’s behalf after becoming adults. If anything, it looked like Tai retired tofatherhood while Summer settled for more traditional huntsmen work.

Like I said, Qrow appeared to be the only one who chose to continue working to stop Salem while his teammates walked away for different reasons that Oz wascomplacent with allowing them do that.

Heck I even seen Qrow’s inclusion in Oz Inner Circle as a sort of promotionin a sense. Qrow has known Oz since he was a teenager starting with Team STQR and eventually he rose through the ranks to become one of Oz’s lieutenants next to Ironwood, Glynda and Leo (I’m not sure how much Theodore—the Headmaster of Shade Academy is involved with Oz. I haven’t read After the Fall).

You can almost say that Qrow’s experience with Oz is kind of similar to Pearl from Steven Universe. While Qrow didn’t harbour any romantic interest in Oz, he did seem to be someone that Qrow admired since Oz saw Qrow’s potential. Oz gave Qrow a chance for him to do good with his life especially when he believed he couldn’t. He gave Qrow a place or at least a chance to make a place for himself. So for Qrow to suddenly learn that all the good he had been doing was for naught, I understand his frustration in the sense of it making Qrowquestion everything of his entire relationship with Oz.

If Oz kept secrets and lied to him then what else did Oz lie to Qrow about besides Salem? Did Oz lie to Qrow all those times he encouraged when he was a teenager? Was he lying when he told him there was actual good he could do?Was he lying when he made him feel like he wasn’t the lost cause he expectedhimself to become? Y'know stuff like that. 

It is for this reason why I sometimes joke that the Fortune Cookies (Qrow x Clover) friendship seems to feel like a rebound of the Clockworks (Oz and Qrow) friendship? Right now, Clover feels like a stand in for Oz—another charismatic fellow with an encouraging persona to be a beacon of motivation for Qrow by helping him to feel good about himself again. I’m still waiting for Clover to help Qrow open up regarding his history with Oz.

That being said, that’s where I think Qrow’s anger at Oz was mostly directed. Unlike the rest of the heroes, Qrow’s beef with Oz is more personal. It’s not just about him keeping secrets from him, it’s more akin to the feeling one might get if they discovered that their idol or beloved mentor—someone they highly looked up to because that person made them believe in themselves— was secretly nefarious person that did bad things.It’s almost a feeling of betrayal because it forces you to question how genuineness of your entire relationship with that person. I think that’s what’s going on with Qrow right now. His anger towards Oz is wrapped up in his feelings about their history together and how he feels about himself and until he comes to terms with at least one of those things, it might be a while before he and Oz can truly reconcile.

As a matter of fact, I think before Qrow can even think about making peace with Oz, he has to face whatever insecurities he has about himself firstly. This is where I think Clover could potentially help Qrow.

I actually pray this will be the purpose of Clover’s character in Qrow’s story(granted that he isn’t secretly a traitor or any surprising twist like that).While I wouldn’t mind the prospect of a Fair Game relationship, if I may be so bold in saying this, I honestly don’t believe Qrow needs romance right now.

Qrow seems to be in the process of self-healing. This was symbolized in himfinally giving up his alcoholism after four whole seasons since his introduction.This is the first time we’ve actually seen Qrow focus on taking steps to betterhimself first. It’s a welcomed change of pace for him, especially coming off the huge slump he was in last volume which was admittedly the worst the audience has seen Qrow’s character to date.

Don’t get me wrong. Me implying that Fair Game shouldn’t happen now is not me trying to say no-no to ship at all or the idea of everyone’s favourite Birb Dad being involved in an LGBT relationship. I have nothing against Fair Game. On the contrary, I’m for it. I like Qrow’s rapport with Clover and if the showrunners ever decide to take them in that direction, it would be nice since Qrow would have a partner that compliments him the way Clover does. That being said, this this squiggle meister more believes that now (meaning this volume and right now in the PLOT) isn’t the appropriate time for romance to be a thing for Qrow since he still has his own hurdles about himself to jump through first. I more think that Qrow needs to overcome his insecurities about himself and have a fresh start with more self-confidence.

In the past, as implied back in V6CH4, it seems as if Qrow depended a lot on Oz and/or his work with Oz to provide him some semblance of self-worth. So when that was mirror was shattered for him, all he was left with were the same self-defecating issues that he hadn’t worked through.

This is a chance for Qrow to truly grow as a person and I believe it could even end up helping him in time to repair his relationship with Oz. It felt like Qrow needed Oz to help him feel better about himself. But if Qrow learns to conquer some of his self-doubts then he would no longer need to have Oz give him a place in this world. 

This time, he could make his own place for himself so that the next time Qrow decides to follow Oz, his motivation would be to rekindling his friendship with Oz since he genuinely saw him as a dear friend rather than the man he depended on to make him feel worthy about himself…y’know what I mean?

That’s how I see things going for Qrow.

As for Ironwood and company....

Nah son! Sorry Miki-chan but this squiggle meister is more inclined to believe that our heroes won’t get off the hook this time, period. 

Let’s not forget that the main reason why Ironwood is in such hot water with Mantle and now the Atlas Council is partially due to his secret work on Amity Tower?

You heard Ironwood’s reaction to Nora’s outburst of his continuous failure to cooperate with Robyn Hill and the People of Mantle.

“...I am so sick of secrets! If we just told everyone about Amity, about Salem---”“ We can’t! If we talk about Amity now, we risk Salem’s forces, who we know are here, working to sabotage it. If we tell them about Salem now, we risk falling to the Grimm before we can reunite Remnant. We have to finish the Tower!”  

All that mattered to Ironwood at the moment was finishing his plan to destroy Salem via Amity Tower.

Speaking of, remember what he said Oscar in C7? 

“...The path you’re heading down, where you’re the only one with the answers. Where you do the thing you think is right no matter the cost, it’s not going to take you anywhere good.”“We have to stop Salem. Nothing matters more.” 

Stopping Salem matters more to Ironwood than anything else currently and he seems to be banking all of his chips on Amity Tower being that ultimate solution. And let’s not forget that the sole reason Ironwood is doing any of this is because he actively believes that Salem can be destroyed.Ironwood has been making active decisions at the cost of the People of Mantle and Atlas on a plan he concocted without knowing the full truth.

A truth that our heroes know about and had a golden opportunity to tell him right after he unveiled his genius plan to stop Salem but they didn’t tell him....because PLOT? 

Do you realize how much drama and issues could’ve potentially been avoided if the heroes had just been upfront with Ironwood from the get-go?

I mean, they may not have been able to thwart Watts’ schemes but at least Ironwood would’ve gotten himself in less trouble with Mantle (and eventually Atlas_ if he didn’t take some of the supplies necessary for the kingdom’s survival to fund the Amity Tower project. I have a feeling Amity Tower could’ve been avoided entirely with the truth since it’s whole purpose, according to Ironwood, was to stop Salem by alerting the world of her existence.

I’m sorry Miki but to me, I don’t see our heroes walking away easily from this. I don’t even expect Ironwood to be understanding of their motives. That to me would be him taking it lightly. I expect him to be downright furious that our heroes chose to keep such an important piece of information from him during such a dire time especially after he gave them his full trust.

Worst yet, if the truth ends up coming out after Ironwood already got the bad news that he was removed from Council then it  would be even worse.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Ironwood does get booted from Council after word that Mantle was decimated during the Mega Goliath stampede as a result of the people’s distress over the heating going out in the kingdom gets back to Atlas, Ironwood is going to be in more trouble with the Council than he ever was before.

Unless Weiss ends up outing Jacques on working with Watts first. Then again, who’s to say that Watts hadn’t already prepared for that? While the whole bit with Mama Schnee secretly installing cameras around the Manor was ‘clever’ on her part,Watts is a genius hacker capable of perfectly forging evidence.

Imagine if…Watts low-key has some kind of invention in his briefcase that is able to pick up on things such as security cameras. I mean, we saw how easily he took out the cameras in Mantle.While I understood that Watts was only able to do this due to Atlas never upgrading Mantle’s security, I still can’t help but shake this weird feeling that Watts probably knew of the cameras in Schnee Manor and might’ve prepared for that too.

Either way, I’m expecting the worse Miki-chan. The heroes aren’t getting away this time. Ironwood is going to be pissed.

And judging by the thumbnail of tomorrow’s episode that was just released, it may seem like my fear is going to come to fruition. Oscar might use the Relic.

My only question is who will train the question on. I still think it would be interesting if Oscar used the Relic to out everyone including Jacques but...that might be too much.

We’re more likely to see Oscar use the Relic on Ruby and...I don’t see things going well after that. I have been waiting for the pin to drop and for the moment where Ironwood loses his humanity and...I think the next episode might be the spark.

I think it might end up being the case where Oscar reveals the truth but at the cost of setting Ironwood off. I can even see a case where Ironwood gives Oscar a bly---he gives him a pass and commends him for ‘his honesty’. However the others get arrested and Oscar is the only one spared of going into custody since Ironwood deemed them as traitors.

While Ironwood might lose his seat on the Council, I feel like he’ll still keep his position as General of the Military and thus, have the authority to send JNR_RWBY and Qrow to jail for ‘treason’.

I feel like that could happen but who knows? I could be wrong. But in the event that I’m right about that, maybe this could play out like what you hoped for Clover and the Aces?

Like he and the Ace Ops end up being forced to arrest Qrow and JNR_RWBY. But in the end, the Aces also end up helping them escape later with Oscar’s help?

Or perhaps, Clover stays in line and it’s Marrow who comes to the heroes’ aid thanks to Oscar? Or maybe it’s both Clover and Marrow since they are the Aces who we’ve gotten to know the most?

Either way, I really think Ironwood is going to go off and next episode will be the spark to it. There’s been too many foreshadows to that for this season.  Either way, it’s  going to be interesting ninth episode. But what do you think about my points about Qrow and the others?

I’ve been reading the temeraire books non-stop since christmas and I’m on the third one and I have too many feelings spilling out of me to not write some of them down

- the funeral at the beginning is so atmospheric and haunting I love it

- laurence has such a heady blend of Disaster Bisexual and pure Dad energy

like he’s going to kick your ass he’s going to kick his own ass he’s going to be conflicted about the act of kicking ass b/c of Duty to his country, he’s going to go on long wonderfully unselfconscious descriptions of handsome men and he’s going to adopt a bunch of orphans along the way

- oh no tharkay just showed up... I’m sorry literally everyone else in this series it’s been one hell of a ride these last two books but none of you turned up with a falcon, a look of wry cynical amusement and the very real sense that you’re continually pretending to have no feelings while actually having All The Feelings going on under the surface so uh. what can you do

every wry smile is a wonder every time he proves yet again to be the most competent person present and is snarky about it is a joy etc. he tells temeraire stories and teaches him dragon language. I am helpless 

- also it’s such a fucking tease b/c MASTERFULLY he’s not mentioned that much to begin with even though we know he’s around, presumably because Laurence doesn’t care that much at first (though he does realize he’s strangely disproportionately upset at the thought that Tharkay might have betrayed them huh... *chinhands*) and also he’s keeping deliberately emotionally distant, so I’m just continually turning the pages like ‘but my boy tho. what’s my boy up to’

- laurence has a lot of endearing traits, but I think the time he was literally embroiled in a day-long desperate battle behind an improvised barricade and still took a moment to wash and dry his neckcloth takes the cake. he’s such a nerd about his clothes I love him

(I also like the character development just from the first book to this -- he can still unthinkingly be a dick sometimes, but you get the feeling he’s shed a lot of bad shit he learned from his awful dad as well as the navy b/c like. he’s a good. he’s a good good boy at the end of the day and he had to learn to be a dragon’s dad real quick. Temeraire gets completely blown by him being strict ONCE in throne of jade and knows instinctively how much laurence loves him. can u imagine how much he is NOT like his dad after all. Y_____Y)

- actually I really enjoy how the author has managed to set up the complexity and authenticity of the dragon/captain relationships? it’s a very strange mix of two-way parental & child dynamics and a life partner and you just accept it completely, to the point that you find it sympathetic even in the bad guys. it’s so well done.

Read the labels for everything. Personally, as long as it doesnt actually contain wheat/wheat by products or gluten, I can have things with “MAY contain..” but everyone is different and more sensitive than others. just be careful and read everything. (soy sauce and corn pops are fucking traps because soy sauce is alot of the times made with soy AND WHEAT so check!!! and corn pops are shitheads because you think “oh! CORNpops! So If we take a look at S1 of UtaPri (1000%) we had an interesting landscape.  I say this because of the fact that literally I knew NOTHING about any of the characters that would be included in this series at the time and when I say “nothing” I mean jack squat.  The reason for this is because I wanted my reaction to the characters in the show to be genuine and I refused to let any “outside influence” persuade me one way or the other. I can tell you this too...the characters I liked then were almost different to whom I like now which is interesting. Like if you made me literally break it down for you it went something like this Masa ,Tokiya and Otoya were locks (especially Tokiya cos his reactions to how he had to handle having Oto as a roommate were priceless) Ren was in the category of “You annoy the shit out of me but I’m going to see what you got to show me” And then you had Syo and Natsuki that ,for whatever reason, weren’t exactly high on my faves list...more like on the outs (spoiler:  As far as the ANIME goes this doesn’t change...Shining Live I actually enjoy Syo and Natsuki more) and there were reasons but even I couldn’t tell you what they were.  I think a big one is cos ,for me, Syo just wanting to fight people cos of his height (which was a big thing in Season 1 and 2 to a lesser extent) was kind of ridiculous so that grated me.  Natsuki well...we know the reason as I make no bones that I was NEVER a fan of the “Satsuki Persona” and that just grated me (although his event story with Ren is cute af and if you never read it then SHAME ON YOU!) You will note that I conveniently leave out Cecil (sorry @baku5ds) but that was because ,at THIS POINT, while the cat storyline was an important one (and it was) and then his first appearance near the end of the season and I was just like “I need to see what the heck your angle is” Now as we know come Season 2 I liked Cecil a lot (he almost “replaced” Tokiya in the top tier but I still enjoyed him) but there was one other change Ren ,whom had been on my s**t list in Season 1, showed his maturity for me and we kind of came to an understanding ESPECIALLY after his reconciliation with Seiichirou.  THAT really helped me with him but every one else kind of stayed the same (and I was fine with this). When we got to Season 2 also we had two new groups added to the fray QUARTET NIGHT and HEAVENS Now full disclosure:  While I never really paid attention to the blurbs that were wrote on the UtaPri wikipedia page for STARISH or any other characters the ones I DID read were for QN...I actually read theirs more before I started Season 1 and when I first read the name “Ai Mikaze” and then “Aoi Shouta” my first thought was “Is this a woman?” (Before we go any further I would like to formally apologize to Shoutan for thinking he was a “she”.  For some reason I sometimes hear voice pitches and it screws me up so there we go) Now in QN there weren’t really any members that made me want to throttle them (save Reiji) and I really loved Ai and also the Baron himself in Camus and if there needs to be a breakdown of why Camus well Long hair occasional megane Royalty Good enough...aight! Alright I half told a lie about STARISH...there was ONE member I think I read their blurb the most and IT WAS Nats believe it or not...yet he was one of the two I didn’t really care for...aight! The wild card in ALL of this comes when I meet HEAVENS for the first time as a trio and we know them by now but what the hell I’ll list them out Kira Sumeragi Nagi Mikado Eiichi Otori NOW...if you were to go back into my archives (and have fun with that) you would know that I wasn’t always the biggest fanboy of HEAVENS and I wanted to see them get theirs in the end...well they did and I was happy even if the ending of Season 2 was confusing as all hell! Now this kind of brings us to the question which is “How long did it take me to like HEAVENS?” Here’s why After I saw HEAVENS lose the first time in my mind I was like this “Well these three lost and now Eiichi got knocked down a peg so now can I consider rooting for them at some point later and if so what will cause it?” Now keep this in mind when you read that 1.  HEAVENS had no Canon information on them so building sympathy was going to be harder 2.  It actually took me TWO full viewings of Season 2 (before Season 3 ever aired) to really come to the idea that I might want to really get in THEIR CORNER because watching them get beat stopped being fun THEN! (That second point is going to come into play real quick...just wait) Season 3 happens and we have QN and STARISH battling it out to see whom is going to win the spot to rep the Shining Agency for Super Star Sports (from this point on the “Triple S”) and in the final episode of Season 3 (6/27/2015) HEAVENS reappears as a 7 member group.  Now I think here is where things get a little weird with the fandom because people say they are “still new” and stuff like that.  I would like to remind people of something HEAVENS is a 5 year old group.  You use the ORIGINAL date they debuted vs. when they became a 7 member group and that’s how it goes.  Its weird to me because when you look at the fan art for STARISH I think there was one that celebrated them being 7 years old but I also saw one where they had acknowledged HEAVENS being 3 years old...that’s NOT how it works in the Music industry but I digress When we were getting ready for Season 4 I had “officially” made the decision that I wanted to see what Broccoli did with HEAVENS and I wanted to see what their role in Season 4 would be.  Now we know how HEAVENS was treated both in the Anime and on this website during the whole season and it was the first time I ever got legit angry but that was a culmination of things  - I had wondered WHY the fandom ignored the times that a HEAVENS member was under distress like when Shion flipped out even Eiichi getting manhandled by his dad...the latter there were people that legit believed Eiichi DESERVED that because of “what happened to Otoya” (despite us knowing that he didn’t mean for that to happen and he basically stated such the following episode after NEXT DOOR)  - The other thing is that it felt like the fandom just never wanted to see HEAVENS happy...yeah I’m saying it and I don’t care who gets mad.  I know there were some that wanted the best for them but they always got drowned out by the people that LOVED STARISH so much that if something negative happened to HEAVENS I bet they were happy Then of course EVERYONE knows about my thoughts and feelings about 6th stage and why I thought that was a complete dumpster fire and I still do.  That show is one I pretty much ignore it unless you show me the intro from QN because...Maeno! Now HEAVENS has had some positives (although they get consistently overshadowed by STARISH in most cases) HEAVENS has had a group single go to #3 on the Oricon chart (and beat STARISH no less) A Drama CD unto themselves that went to #5 on the same chart (but unlike the Anime single this one dropped like a rock after the fact) They also had their own birbs and now they DO have bears and Eiichi has his own plush (which I still want for damn sure) and next year they will start their own web radio show and store...although unlike the Shining Store theirs isn’t going to be separate and instead its going to be a part of an Animate store which...not sure how I feel about that (oh yeah and Shuffle Units they are with a QN/Starish member and you know they are gonna get buried again...fuck I wrote a fic about my displeasure for it when I had Camus beat the **** out of Eiji!) Here is going to be my period on all of this YES...HEAVENS has the movie single ,the shuffle units and even are going to be involved in Dolce Vita...this is GREAT! Here is my problem They have always been treated like 3rd class citizens by both Broc and the fandom and they deserve better and we all know this to be fact BUT as it appears if you are a HEAVENS fan on any social media you get run off because of the fact that we have this “Seniority complex” bull shit!  HEAVENS and their fans deserve a lot more than we get and one thing we definitely deserve is our “moment” because I’m sorry but STARISH got theirs HOW MANY TIMES...AND I LIKE MEMBERS OF STARISH BUT SHIT MAN! People have asked me before why I like HEAVENS...I have said this in video form but I will do it again for new people Because there are things about each member that is literally a part of me Eiji is the shy kid to a degree...I can relate to that Yamato had his issues with his brother...you have NO IDEA how I relate to that and in his case he was the younger...for me I’m the older one! Shion is shy/anxious around new people...I REALLY can get with that for sure (and I have had my share of freakouts like he did...never hid in a closet though) Van loves him some baseball...I used to too (and with me my sport of choice to really watch is Hockey oddly enough) Nagi is smart as a tack and sassy af...I at least relate to the whole thing with his smarts...and some would say the sass too I’m sure! The BIG one though is Eiichi because you have NO IDEA the shit I went through with my mother many years ago and the times she decided to get physical with me...we won’t even talk about one of my grandparents and his short fucking temper!  If you wonder why I am always quick to protect Eiichi there we go! Do we get it yet?  Like I LOVE HEAVENS because I probably share more personality traits with them or experiences than I ever could say STARISH...then again there are the members I like there for different reasons and the big one was Tokiya because he (kind of like Camus to a degree) was someone that was organized and was good at getting shit done...yeah that is kind of me right there (and I am working on the “getting shit done” part). When people say about HEAVENS you “need more time” I respond like this It is 2018 and soon to be 2019...you have had over 5 years and a total of 18 episodes to figure the fuck out whether or not you were going to like them or not.  It LITERALLY only took me two watches of S2 and the duet project of S4 to figure out that I was going to “Ride and Die” with HEAVENS and for me that is where I will mark my grave and die with my boots on. Maybe there are some of you that need just a little bit more (and genuinely which I can respect) but I wonder if when people say “I need more time” its just a way of saying “I will NEVER like them” This is just something I wanted to write about for a while and now I did and I enjoyed writing this...good therapy! I’ll be back in the near future with a brand new fic I promise!
