When the Queen’s daughter was born, the baby cried – loud and spirited and hungry – just like every baby should. And for a few blissful, fleeting moments, the Queen believed the child might be perfectly ordinary. No Goddess-blood, no burdens to bear save for the trivial formalities of royal life, but when the midwife placed the child in her arms, eyes brighter than emeralds, hair as gold as the sun, skin so fair she practically glowed, it was undeniable the Queen had given birth to someone very, very special.
