Decorative Columbine (Genus Aquilegia)
Welcome to this week's #BHLSundayGarden where we will be featuring something a little different than our usual botanical art on our Instagram account. We will be looking at how plants inspired artists to create decorative patterns for textiles and applications onto home products, like the vase in this illustration. Specifically, we will be highlighting work from Eugène Grasset, La Plante et ses Applications Ornementales (1896), a lovely Art Nouveau book. This image is by Maurice Pillard Verneuil, and this book was contributed for digitization by @smithsonianlibraries.
