Knee Replacement Surgery
Knee Anatomy and Function
The knee joint, a pivotal joint in the human body, connects the femur (thigh bone) to the tibia (shin bone) and the patella (kneecap). It comprises tendons that link bones to leg muscles, while ligaments provide stability.
Knee injuries are common, with around 2.5 million sports-related incidents reported annually, making it susceptible to damage. Gadge Hospital in Nagpur offers top-notch Knee Replacement Surgery and Knee Ligament injury treatments.
Knee Replacement Surgery Overview
Knee replacement, also known as Knee Arthroplasty, is a procedure to reconstruct a damaged knee joint due to arthritis. Metal and plastic components replace the affected knee surfaces, providing relief to arthritis sufferers or those with severe knee injuries.
The surgery aims to restore knee function, reduce pain, and enhance mobility. Studies reveal that over 90% of patients experience improved mobility and reduced pain post-surgery.
Various types of arthritis can affect the knee, including Osteoarthritis (most common in middle-aged and older individuals), Rheumatoid arthritis (causing inflammation and stiffness), and Traumatic arthritis (resulting from knee cartilage damage).
Preparation
Before surgery, patients undergo a thorough physical examination and necessary tests. They must disclose medication allergies and use to the orthopedic experts at Gadge Hospital. Patients are advised not to eat for eight hours before surgery and are given a sedative.
Post-Surgery Care
After discharge, patients must keep the surgical area clean and dry. They receive guidance on bathing, and stitches or staples are removed during follow-up appointments. Pain relief measures, elevation of the leg, and ice application are suggested to reduce swelling. Patients should report any unusual symptoms or increased pain.
Types of Knee Replacement Surgery
Total Knee Replacement (TKR) involves replacing damaged knee joint surfaces with artificial implants, addressing all compartments of the knee. TKR is effective for advanced arthritis, restoring function by resurfacing the entire joint.

Endoscopic Spine Surgery in Aurangabad
Endoscopic spine surgery is the least intrusive and most successful treatment for treating a wide range of spine issues and alleviating back pain.
Endoscopic spine surgery, unlike traditional back surgery, does not require a hospital stay, general anesthesia, a stitched incision, or a lengthy recovery period. Endoscopic spine surgery also has benefits over laser spine surgery, which is more invasive and uses scopes three to four times larger than those used in endoscopic surgery.
The following are some of the advantages of endoscopic spine surgery:
The outpatient operation usually takes 30 to 60 minutes and does not require sutures.
The 5-mm incision is minimally invasive, resulting in minimal blood loss and little or no muscle tissue injury around the operative site.
There is no need for the patient to have any alien hardware implanted.
Patients have minimal or no problems following surgery.
Pain and scarring are minimal to non-existent.
Only sedation and a local anesthetic are required for the surgery.
The patient is awake and aware and can give input.
Recovery times are significantly reduced compared to other surgeries.
This minimally invasive technique can help patients with back pain caused by disc herniation. Endoscopic spine surgery has also proven to be a viable option for many patients over the age of 65 who suffer from age-related degenerative spine diseases, with excellent results, fewer complications, and a quicker recovery time. It's also a fantastic choice for those who can't tolerate open surgery.
What is Endoscopic Spine Surgery, and how does it work?
An endoscope is placed through a very small incision to reach the injured portion of the spine during the surgery. A tiny fiber-optic camera embedded within the endoscope provides images to a television screen. The surgeon utilizes these images to guide his activities while he removes the damaged disc material and repairs it with micro-instruments.
The equipment and tube are withdrawn after the surgery, and a tiny bandage is placed over the incision. Patients heal rapidly and have a lower risk of injury or infection because this operation does not injure major back muscles. The patient can usually return to normal activities the next day after the surgery.
Treatment for the Ailments
Endoscopic spine surgery is used to treat the following conditions:
Herniated disc on the far side.
A herniated disc in the lumbar region.
Stenosis of the foramen.
Discitis.
Tear in the annular disc.
A previous fusion surgery had failed.
Non-surgical, conservative techniques are always tried first; if these fail, surgical options with the least amount of invasiveness are sought. Only when all other non-invasive options have failed are surgical procedures undertaken.
If you are searching for the best way to relieve pain in your neck or arm or back, you are in right place. Dr. Sushil Kumar Shinde is the Consultant Neurosurgeon in Aurangabad. at Carewell Superspeciality Hospital. He completed his M.B.B.S from Government Medical College, Aurangabad & MS (General Surgery )from Government Medical College, Nagpur.

My mom, Bala
She was very special, like all mothers are to their daughters. She passed away on March 1, 2017, 18 days before her 84th birthday.
From Palghat to Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Nagpur, and to Bengaluru, Mom treated each of these cities as a great adventure, picking up languages, like the accomplished linguist she was – speaking fluent Malayalam, Bengali, English, Hindi, Tamil and Kannada.
For someone, who had studied only up to 4th class, and in Malayalam medium, she taught herself to read English and was soon reading English newspapers and novels - her favourite being Perry Mason. However, she wrote only in Malayalam, like most Palghat Iyers before her did. She taught me the three Cs – career, children, cooking and taught me to excel in all three spheres – although, I am not sure I excelled in cooking. She taught me strong values, which I hope, I have been able to pass on to my children.
When we were children in Kolkata, as staunch devotees of Janaky Mathaji and Ramana Maharishi - 7 pm was strictly ‘Arunachala Stuti’ time, and wherever we were, we had to come home to recite it as a family. In Mumbai, she decided to put me through Carnatic music training, but when she met with stiff resistance from me, she took to listening to it instead, Aruna Sairam and Bombay Jayashree, being among her favourite singers.
She loved eating out and would often come to my school in Chembur and pick me up and take me to a restaurant to eat masala Dosa. Although I enjoyed these outings, I was mortified to be seen outside in my school uniform. Mom continued these culinary adventures with her grandchildren in Bengaluru – with ice-cream from Corner House - chocolate nut sundae with extra chocolate sauce without the nuts – being her all time favourite.
Mom was a great cook and could rustle up cool school and college lunches and a quick snack for a hungry grandchild. I don’t remember ever eating my lunch, as it would be gobbled up by my classmates. College vacations in the sweltering heat of Chennai was always something to look forward to, as Mom had devised a cool way to beat the heat. We would traipse off to see a Bollywood film in an AC theatre.
Mom enjoyed knitting sweaters, mufflers, or socks for every baby born in the family. She also loved to tailor all my clothes, even after I reached college, and I had to make her stop, as I was too self conscious to be seen wearing home-stitched clothes – but not one to give up, she took to tailoring all the dolls’ clothes for her grand-daughters.
She took her grandchildren on several adventures. Travelling with five brats, children of her two sons and a daughter, from Bangalore to Hyderabad to Nagpur, could not have been easy. She even attempted a backpacking trip with them, from Bangalore to Ramana Ashram in Tiruvannamalai.
She constantly proved age was only a number in the mind. At 55, she went on a new adventure, studied Reiki and became a Reiki master. She initiated family and friends to Reiki and healed many of our friends. At 60, she went on yet another adventure and taught little kids shlokas and told them stories in a school run by her friend.
Mom could discuss politics and the local gossip with equal relish, was garrulous to a fault, and nosy to the point of being embarrassing. So, it was painful to watch her slip into the silent world of dementia. She now spoke only when spoken to, forgot faces and events. In her silent world, her constant companions were noisy, over the top Bollywood films – some of her favourites being Baghban, Mr. India, Gaddar, Border and Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gam. She was especially partial to Amitabh Bachchan and would switch channels every five minutes, until she found a Bachchan film she could settle down to. She never remembered the stories, so it was like watching a fresh new story for her, even though she was watching the film for the nth time.
When she began misplacing objects, and sent the family looking for her spectacles or her dentures, she was always deeply remorseful for having put them through it. The loss of her son, my brother Gopal, a year ago, was something she never got over, grieving as she remembered. So, we stopped telling her about other deaths in the family, including that of her younger brother.
Towards the end, she suffered like nobody’s mother should ever have to - with painful bedsores, catheters and loss of control of her own body. Yet, gracious to the end, she remembered to always thank the care-givers looking after her. Kurai Ondrum Illai Kanna (I have no complaints Lord Krishna) she whispered to me 10 days ago, in one of her lucid moments, echoing MS’s soulful rendition of Rajaji’s spiritual ode to Lord Krishna.
I can’t understand God’s ways of making someone, who had never thought ill of anyone in her life, but always wished the best for everyone, to go through so much pain. So, was this her journey or ours? Perhaps, even in her deepest pain, she was teaching her family a lesson in endurance and forgiveness.
Was I, as good a daughter, as she was a good mother to me? This will be a question that I may never find an answer to…
Mom read everything I wrote and shared them with everyone in her circle. I hope you read this too, mom, wherever you are…

In the olden days, when India was getting freedom, our Father of Nation had referred this fabric as ‘Livery of Freedom’. It is therefore, we can say, these Khadi clothes have help us achieve freedom. It is not only about achieving freedom in those days, but today also we have strong importance for the Khadi clothing. The very professional designers have brought out the best in the Khadi fashion. The have evolved with the trend of the men suits to make them different of others. And the new generation fashion designers go very far and make out the best of this fabric to come up with the ladies suits, Kurtis and many of the gents wear too. Most of us, now recognize this fabric as the fabric worn by the leaders of the nation; the very best example we can give of is our Prime Minister - Mr. Narendra Modi. This fabric is the most unique and looks classic when compared to other types of suits. The uniqueness of this cloth can be defined as very cool in summer season and warm in the winter season; this special feature makes the cloth outstanding among others. The cloth being ‘One of a Kind’, are hand-woven and hand-spun. Many people also know this cloth as an idealistic for the best casual wear, since it owns various qualities. There are also available many brands of India for Khadi; Desi Ahar, Khadi Bharat, Sarvodhya, Kutir and many others. You will also find other brands to satisfy you with the best suits and wearable costumes. There also are well known Khadi bhandar in Nagpur to provide the best and finest quality dresses for your needs.
There are very famous and classic dresses made of Khadi for the women widely available in our native places. Some of them can be elaborated as the following:
The Khadi Cotton Kurta: The Khadi cotton cloth is very famous among both, men and women. But the best suits are made for the ladies from Khadi. The most finest salwar kameez suits can be made of this fabric, since the cloth can be best stitched and possess A-Grade quality for sewing. This salwar kameez outfit consists of three elements; a proper fitting kurta, reaching the knees or slight above the knees, a pair of the loose pants or one having pleats at the bottom like churidars and the dupatta or the chunni, that can be worn like a stole over the complete suit. Now these suits can be enjoyed with the printings and also with embroidery. It all depends on the design that will be followed. The ladies find this fabric as one of the most well suited for any type of bodies for any season and looks stylish too. The Khadi fabrics are also used to manufacture sarees, but these sarees are not as popular among women but yes, they definitely hold the best Khadi fabric status. The famous Khadi bhandar in Nagpur will please you with the finest collection of suits, get them soon.
The Style of Wearing Khadi: Since, you have read bout how pure and ethnic the Khadi cloth is, you must also be excited to know regarding the most modest jewelry to suit your dresses. Now, most women try to wear some funky kind of jewelry to make the khadi garment look outstanding and attractive. Basically, the garment possess the rough texture which naturally will be gaining more importance because of the more funky jewelry. To give you more better options, stone-studded jewelry will make the perfect match over this Khadi cloth. The cloth naturally brings in a different and positive attitude in us to make the cloth feel proud of. In reality, very few women make the best choice to wear Indian jewelry with such outfits as the juxtaposition, in this suit might not match up properly. This special Khadi fabric is known to symbolize and compete with a more provincial look that does not really match with the costly jewelry sets. You will definitely find the best Khadi bhandar in Nagpur to offer with modest jewellery and the shoes too.
Conclusion:
Hence, khadi is in itself the best cloth and is now gaining more popularity in most of the Indian modern parts. To help the entire suit grow more importance, you can also try out the Indian shoes like the Juti and the Mojaris. In your city you will find some really well reasonable rated shops for the fabric suits. Get yourself one best Khadi suit and create you style with it.
