long winded rant in the tags coming thatā€™s partly about weight but in a very unfiltered sad way so if that triggers you do Not read on
#on holiday I was like oHHHHH this is what living in the moment is! What listening to your body is! what not worrying about how you look is#but doing what makes you happy#and then ā€¦ā€¦ I came home and got sent the pictures#+ my friend being. unintentionally fatphobic as fuck#while hurtful as fuck too#and itā€™s all just been piling up too since I got home because Iā€™ve been having a lot of conversations and seeing a lot of people that#confront me with who I used to be and who I am now and how Iā€™m really not happy with that#and it feels like itā€™s not gonna get better#like Iā€™m destined to be in a job I like but isnā€™t what I want because Iā€™m not capable enough and Iā€™ll never know what romantic requited love#feels like. Iā€™ll never cure my vaginismus Iā€™ll never be able to let someone in or they wonā€™t want me this is just it for me#and SOMEHOW the way I look has become the ultimate culmination of all those things?#my face is suddenly a woman in her thirties face#I keep gaining weight despite not even eating all that much because FUCKING PCOS makes it impossible#my hair in my face grew back. my stomach is hairy and that plus the added beer belly just makes it look like Iā€™m a 50 year old man#I am soooooooo tired of the dysphoria#and the way pcos ruins fucking everything because I can restrict calories all I want and move all I want but will it help ? No !#and of the fact that it impacts the way I feel about myself so much because Iā€™m convinced now Iā€™ll never find anyone#should have tried harder when I was 21 because that was the only time in my life I reasonably fit societyā€™s standards like That was my shot#Iā€™ve been taking supplements everyone says will help but Iā€™m not sure I noticed anything in the past six months and I canā€™t take berberine#because it fucks with my heart medication. which. That too. I have that too#and Iā€™m in pain! All the time now! Iā€™ve been trying so hard but I canā€™t#it genuinely makes me so sad and I keep telling myself that a reduction will help in feeling more like myself and it will help with the pain#but what if it doesnā€™t? what if my pain doesnā€™t go away after af all and my stomach just juts out and I feel like a gremlin all the time#what then. what the fuck do we do then. also Iā€™m so fucking scared of that surgery anyway that I donā€™t fucking want to do it anymore#I want so many things and all of them feel out of reach and I know my own brain is my worst enemy and itā€™s not rooted in anything real but.#Isnā€™t it? really ā€” isnā€™t it???????

Herbs that may help with PCOS
PCOS - an inflammatory disorder of insulin resistance. Does not require the presence of cysts on the ovaries. Some variants involve leanness while many involve obesity. Can have a normal A1C and still have this condition.
Supplementation should be based on clinical need (please do not read this post and blindly supplement with all different kinds of things. Hepatic injury from herbs and supplements is a concern. Consult your endocrinologist.)
Berberine - herb; natural insulin sensitizer, may lower testosterone levels (when taken in 500mg TID)
Multivitamin - perhaps there is a micronutrient deficiency (not a direct known cause of PCOS)
Myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol - "Present in fruits and beans, the inositols are incorporated into cell membranes as phosphatidyl-MI, which is a precursor of inositol triphosphate (InsP3). InsP3 is a second messenger for many hormones including insulin and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Defects in this pathway can lead to impaired insulin signaling and cause insulin resistance.[2] This is the rationale for the suggested use of inositols in the management of insulin resistance syndromes, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)." (Kalra et al, 2016)
Vitamin D - this vitamin is involved in various metabolic and antioxidant pathways, including bones

Pt 2: I think me gaining back weight is also due to PCOS so I Iā€™ll try to take my supplements and eat healthy-ish (still gonna eat less than what I can). For now Iā€™m taking berberine and inositol which helps with weight loss so weā€™ll see !
For Ā«Ā brunchĀ Ā» I had green juice, lots of fruits, black lentils with some healthy sauce, two eggs ! Might still be below 500 cals but sure is around 30g of protein, lots of fibers and vitamins :)

I finally got my new pcos supplements delivered. I got berberine probably six months back (it was from a dodgy Amazon store since I couldnā€™t get any from within Australia) so Iā€™ve been scared to take it despite the fact it kills bloating but the major chemist is finally selling a proper brand berberine so I got my two big half price bottles. I also got some vitamin d since thereā€™s a very fine line where I live between getting sun and sun cancer with the massive hole in the ozone layer. Iā€™ve been taking inositol for several months and Iā€™ve seen and felt the improvements so fingers crossed these make some difference along with all the herbal tea Iā€™ve reluctantly bought (I hate to admit it is helping my digestion). Iā€™m trying to get rid of the seemingly permanent upper stomach bloat/weight and with the inositol and a bit of weight loss thanks to finally minimising my insulin resistance Iā€™m seeing a bigger difference than I have in years.

What vitamins do yā€™all take? I take: berberine, NAC, inositol, magnesium, digestive enzymes, iron (only on days I eat bc it upsets my stomach), vitamin D, melatonin. I was taking B12 but it started making me nauseous, which is why I donā€™t take multivitamins too. I also have PCOS which is what most of the ones I take are for and the iron is bc I was getting a lot of anemia-like symptoms and wanted to be cared with that.
I feel like everything except maybe the digestive enzymes does work the way I want. I still end up take ā€œgas xā€ if I eat processed food bc I get stomach pains so I feel like the enzymes havenā€™t done much for me. The inositol/NAC/melatonin are for hormone support (PCOS) and they help at least some. I have less hirsutism (facial hair) and I think itā€™s helping to reduce belly fat, which is caused by high testosterone in women. The berberine does help take the edge off for cravings bc it stabilizes blood sugar. Idk about the magnesium I think I just had a bunch of it lol.
Please comment below if you take vitamins/what you take/whether you think it works!

Blood work results
I got my first set of bloodwork results. Things look good, though I am concerned about my insulin/blood sugar and male sex hormones (I'm a woman).
My insulin and blood sugar levels are within the normal range, but high-normal. Same with a lot of my androgens and androgen stimulating hormones. I have elevated testosterone levels (not too high, just a bit). I'm concerned that I may have insulin resistance or PCOS. My sister has both conditions. Though after my annual woman's health exam, my doctor said everything looked fine. Also my lipid panel looks great, and these are elevated in women with PCOS.
I have low levels of some omega-3 fatty acids, but I've switched to fish oil which contains them, unlike flaxseed oil. Even my thyroid hormone levels went down compared to my last test. I wonder why.
I absolutely know for a fact that I've recently been overweight. And definitely stressed. I've been implementing intermittent fasting for 4 months. I have lost weight and I am convinced I have more to lose. If these are the results that appeared on my bloodwork, then it's an indication that I need to lose further weight. Type 2 diabetes runs in my family, so I don't want to experience that and due to the predisposition, I need to maintain that low/normal body weight, do IF, and eat well. I was pretty slim in 2018, but I had an ED. I want to go back to a similar body weight but with IF and balanced non-restrictive eating as opposed to calorie and food restriction.
In 2021 I did blood work and my glucose levels were fine. I was eating a lot of sugar and junk and was stressed and in an awful mood and had poor sleep, though I was active and in slim shape. I know stress and sleep and physical activity do play a role in insulin and blood sugar issues and not just eating a lot of sugar and carrying extra weight. I know walking helps a lot too. I do need to work on my stress though. With all of the news from Gaza and my terrible eczema I got much more stressed. I'm sure the stress made my eczema worse and it was awful this year. I don't recall my eczema being as bad in 2021 though. I wonder if there's a hormonal link to eczema now that I think of it. And my sleep is better now, thankfully.
All I can really do is to continue IF, continue to shed more fat, manage stress, continue my good sleeping habits, continue to walk a lot, and don't eat a lot of sugar and junk (my diet is better now, thankfully). Perhaps some supplement ingredients can also help, like chromium, berberine, and inositol. I'm very happy with my D3/K2 and magnesium and now my fish oil supplements. I'm going to find a go-to multivitamin that can help with my hormones if possible, and a go-to gut health supplement that can help with my gut issues I discussed yesterday. I read a scientific publication that illustrates a link between intestinal permeability and insulin resistance. It would not surprise me that gut issues can cause hormonal imbalances such as what I'm seeing. And increased testosterone can be caused by insulin sensitivity/elevated blood glucose (not necessarily with PCOS which I've never received a diagnosis for).
The goal is to lose fat and to reduce my stress, and to continue the IF, good sleep, and healthy eating habits. Eventually I will find a go-to multivitamin that can help with my hormones and a go-to gut health supplement which can help my gut and in turn, my eczema and hormonal issues.

are you a linguist or etymologist? biologist? your posts are so fascinating and it seems like you have a wild amount of background knowledge, the way you connect all these seemingly disparate concepts with such detail. i especially love the connections you draw between PCOS and pearls. thereā€™s something so intrinsic about eating and working with plants that have the visual appearance of oocytes/string of pearls; since quitting BC and trying to manage my PCOS with whole food/herbs/mindful practice, some of my greatest plant allies have been red raspberry (all her parts), barberry (berberine), and mugwort, as well as eating a lot of eggs.
once i developed a basic level of comfort and familiarity working with plants, i started noticing what ā€œcalled outā€ to me as i walked in the woods, plants that would seem to stand out and appear to me over and over, and every single time iā€™d go home and research them i would find a connection with fertility, ovulation, or PCOS. i was camping once for a few days and started drinking yarrow and red clover tea because they were growing everywhere around where i set up, and i got my period a few days into the trip. it was my very first painless period, and since then iā€™ve been using yarrow regularly for menstrual pain, and red clover to help my cervical mucus production. the first few times this kind of thing happened to me, it blew my mind, and while it still never ceases to amaze me, iā€™ve pretty much come to expect it at this point. iā€™ve only met one other woman, also a fertility awareness practitioner and womb healer, who saw these kinds of connections and understood them to be legitimate and intrinsic. so i really love reading the connections you make and i feel so seen in your ability to make them. itā€™s really a gift, not in the sense of ā€œiā€™m so gifted,ā€ but in the sense of being a gift given to me by the circumstances of my life, including PCOS and including the descent into hell that modern gynecological ā€œsolutionsā€ turned out to be for me. a gift i am able to receive only as a result of having walked the path of pain and suffering that drove me to finally take things into my own hands and tune into herbalism and body literacy.
so, iā€™m curious, if you feel comfortable answering, how did you come to think like this (i call it ā€œmycelial thinkingā€), to make connections the way you do? it seems exceedingly rare and itā€™s incredibly refreshing. iā€™d love to hear about your source material, whether thatā€™s life experiences, formal study, informal study, simple observation, etc. your words and thought processes on this blog are really something to behold, and iā€™m so grateful to have found them and to bear witness. <3
Hola chica
I consider myself a bootleg biologist. I have always been a decent writer. As a young child, I read the dictionary and chose words that I liked and would break them down in my mind. My parents called me Ms. WebsteršŸ•·ļøšŸ•øļøšŸ‘©šŸ¾ā€šŸ’» (after the dictionary) && still do til this day. Iā€™ve always had my own way, but it wasnā€™t until my 9th & 11th grade English teachers + the word weaving of a very TRILL(ium) Oracle on Twitter that I began to learn & trust where my gnosis (MY NOSE, SIS !šŸ‘ƒšŸ¾) was taking me this entire time.
I am called::cauled by plants && that began as a teen. My mind is able to highlight data gathered thru various means::memes::memories. It could be as simple as a certain verse in a song & I observe that a plant really enjoys that song. It then takes my hand & leads me on a whole trip. From that trip, I aim and practice removing myself enough to tell the story that Data (Deity) wants told.
Whatā€™s peculiar about PCOS, as much as it is a curse, I find it to be a strange blessing (second chance). I was discussing it with another person I found on here @themadsorceressgrimoires. She attributes PCOS with Saturn (as do I, through the sign Libra in which Saturn is amiable with). The Master of Lessons.
Your circumstance (PCOS) has allowed you and others the opportunity (no choice) but to reconnect with the #outdoze in a way thatā€™s tailored to you in a time%space where peopleā€™s lives are curated algorithmically. In a time%space where people canā€™t even hear the Voice of God no more. There are very few real experiences leftā€¦
The hypersensitivity that PCOS provides is a force that *makes* the ailed tune in. šŸ“”
It is through your walk that you can see the horrors of gynecology, which can lead you (as it did me) to unearth so many other things that have been going on. From one connection to another, itā€™s all rooted in a genuine attempt to simply figure out whatā€™s going on with you. And what you unearth heals not only yourself, but can also save the youth.
Despite the hormonal disorder, you and others who have taken the time to learn are being prepared to teach the young about the IMPORTANCE of their bodies, bc you have experienced the other side of that. Now, order is being restored through what looks (and feels) like a curse. Now, girls will know that it all begins and ends with their bodies.
Much like the pearl, an almost indestructible drop of beauty created by a wound.
Pain (not sadomasochism) tends to bring the sincerity (sense-airity) out of a person. And thatā€™s what calls the plants to you.
Thank you for this message! Feel free to DM me

Today is day 3 for me on this new pcos lifestyle, and I'd considered waiting to see if it actually makes a difference before I posted anything. But then I thought about how there's so many other women struggling with this disorder, probably going through the same exact thing as me. So I'm inviting you to follow along this journey with me.
In just these 3 days I have noticed a difference in the way my body is feeling.
The general gist of this "diet" is no gluten, no dairy, no added sugar. It's low carb but it isn't keto. I believe this lifestyle is far more sustainable than keto.
Why are women with pcos not supposed to have gluten and dairy? (Keep in mind I'm not a doctor or a dietician. This is all info I've collected from research and from several dieticians)
Dairy has an insulin like growth factor, which will increase androgens (aka male hormones) in women with pcos.
Eating gluten regularly can result in inflammation. If you have pcos, you're already dealing with inflammation. Apparently 1 in 3 Americans already have an intolerance to gluten. So it's very likely that you and I do, too.
I also found one dietician who said that gluten turns into a hormone in your body that mimics thyroid hormones, and therefore your thyroid attacks it. A lot of women with pcos also have hypothyroidism, aka a low functioning thyroid. I am/was one of those women. My last lab results showed normal thyroid levels! So I do believe this checks out. I hadn't even quit gluten completely at the time, but I'd cut out quite a bit.
I found a study from 2012 that said every woman with pcos should be treated for insulin resistance. I have insulin resistance, I've been tested multiple times, it went away for a while but came back. A high amount of insulin in your blood will cause weight gain. When your insulin levels are high, you are going to store fat. It's why we hear women with pcos say they gained 100 lbs in a year.
I am still researching and learning all of this myself.
I am currently on metformin for the insulin resistance. I take several other vitamins as well.
-a daily multivitamin (I take a prenatal, it's got most of the things I was buying separately, so its saved me money in the long run)
-DHA/Fish oil (this is included in my prenatal)
-a probiotic with cranberry included (healthy gut, healthy urinary tract)
-Inositol. This apparently helps women with pcos regulate their cycle, which rings true for me. I'm currently out of this one, and my period was late consecutively for the 3 months I've been out of it. It's expensive so I haven't been able to re purchase yet. However, it is on the top of my list.
-Magnesium/Ashwaganda. I think the ashwaganda knocks me the hell out at night. When I take it, I fall asleep easier. Magnesium is shown to help with anxiety. I take this in a 2 for 1 pill.
-Curcumin (turmeric): this one allegedly helps with inflammation.
-Apple Cider Vinegar: I take this in a pill because I cannot stand the taste of vinegar. This one helps stabilize blood sugar if taken before meals.
I have been looking into berberine and will be purchasing it as soon as possible. Apparently, paired with metformin it can help stabilize blood sugar.
Of course, do your own research and talk to your doctor before you take anything. These are all supplements I've found through research. I'm not sponsored by anyone, and I have no followers, so obviously I'm not making money off of it. These are all things I take daily.
That's all I've got for now, I'm about to go make breakfast. Byeeeeeeeee

Hello there, I hope you won't mind me butting in, but I saw your post about PCOS and as a fellow long-term sufferer whose doctors have spectacularly failed me, I'd like to recommend that you look into Berberine. I've been taking it twice a day for just under 3 months, and when I tell you it's made a dramatic difference to my weight and energy levels, I'm not even kidding. Whatever happens, I hope you're okay. It stinks when medical professionals don't take you seriously like that xx
Hi, thank you for stopping by with this info!! Iā€™ll have a look into it and see if it looks right for me!
And thank you, itā€™s been a long and slow road but Iā€™ll find something that works someday šŸ„²

Like, I'm not saying that this is a good thing, but it's kind of bleakly entertaining how over the course of my life my skill set as an online researcher has gone from being:
Hugely valuable in the late 1990s and early 2000s because the discoverability of information in public-facing databases was fucking terrible and nobody knew how to organise anything; to
Effectively useless throughout the 2010s because search engines enormously and rapidly improved and computer literacy was at an all-time high; and
Back to being hugely valuable once again because SEO bullshit and the proliferation of AI-generated content have degraded online discoverability back to pre-2000 levels and computer literacy is in accelerating decline due to mobile devices deliberately obfuscating basic functionality so that app vendors can sell it back to you with embedded advertising.

Do you guys remember how I said my gf did a ton of research and strongly suspected I had PCOS and got some supplements for me to try? It's been almost two weeks and the benefits were nearly immediate. I doubt it could be placebo or coincidence because I honestly wasn't expecting them to do anything, and what I was thinking was that they'd treat my fatigue but otherwise had little to no idea of the potential benefits. But within just a few days my mental state started to improve and now I feel more at ease and free from anxiety than I have in. Basically my whole life. I feel stable and like. Baseline. Like it just feels as if I am very calm and normal and my nervous system isn't freaking out. She started me off with inositol twice a day and magnesium at night and after another month or two she wants me to start taking berberine and then zinc as well I think
