Ok I had good luck with responses last time I asked the great and mighty fiber craft community things via the void of tumblr so I’m going to try a gain!
So I’m hoping to teach myself knitting! I found a site online (sheepandstitch .com) that had some tips and videos for beginners. I followed their advice and got some thicker yarn (number 6 extra bulky) and thicker bamboo needles (9mm, also accidentally some 5.5mm needles but those are like 13in long, the joys of online buying 😅).
So I have some beginning supplies but I haven’t started yet. I know it’s going to be different for everyone but is it generally better to learn from a book/patterns or watch videos teaching you? I can have trouble visualizing directions in 3D so I will probably have to do a little of both regardless but I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot and miss out on early pattern learning.
Does anyone have any recommendations for starting books/websites/videos? I did make an account on Ravelry awhile back but I’m not really sure what I’m doing :P I did try teaching myself once when I was a teenager but I didn’t have much luck. I’m hoping to have better luck (and more patience) this time! And I’m totally also interested in like actual, physical paper books too if people have recommendations. I assume most craft stores have beginner books but I’m also sure mileage probably varies on those…
Thanks in advance for any advice :3 If/when I eventually make something, I will post it! :D

Simple granny infinity scarf!! It’s made out of the leftover yarn from my cushion cover and I love the way the colours turned out on a long round like this. It’s so fun and colourful and already one of my favourite winter warmers! :D
Yarn: Rico Creative Chic-Unique - Rainbow
Pattern: improvised - a few rounds of ribbing each end and granny clusters in the middle, length eyeballed.

Finally had some nice sunshine to take better photos. 🌞 I’m so happy with how my partner’s scarf turned out - it really looks nice with the two colored fringe! Now I’m working on a striped hat that will match their scarf. Relieved that I finished this scarf in time for their birthday, and they absolutely love it! 🥰
I wanted to show off my improvement from my first scarf made to my second scarf. My scarf is the pink, red and purple striped scarf without a fringe, instead I did a border. I made that first, in late April this year. For the fringe scarf for my partner I made it in two-ish weeks in October.
It’s very satisfying to be able to make clothing and blankets for fall and winter so we can stay warm and cozy. One of these days I’ll try my hand at doing a shirt, but for now I’m content with making outfits for my favorite stuffed animal.

My first completed crochet scarf. It was more a test of my patience if anything to see if I could actually complete it. Ran out of the yarn I was using half way through so I had to change colour. Going to try with only one colour next time.

Dear Dolling Diary:
I had a really productive day today! I finally washed the hair of my 3 newest dolls (which I have been putting off for ages), AND I've been crocheting again. I did this hat, and I was doing some practice with how buttons work, and made this cute little thing. I'm calling it a scarf. And it so pretty and cute! Kawaii! Not perfect, but it just makes me wanna go screeee!!! I have so many emotions! I'm so happy and excited!

It's done, second scarf has been made. Well onto the next knitting project, those being simple fingerless gloves.

Steady progress on this scarf, it is sooooo long 😂 it’s currently four inches width so still a few more rows until it’s six inches which is my goal. Got my sleepy lil girl keeping me company. Got a bit of a low grade fever today so I’m not trying to push too hard but still I only have 6 days to finish. 😅😅

Ok. For everyone that knows how to knit, is it a good idea for me, an absolute newbie to knitting, to learn how to knit a scarf? Like is it a recommended project for beginners? Because I want to try knitting and I am thinking of making a scarf, just because I like scarves and it is winter right now. Just a simple scarf, that's all.
