A grump who isn’t really magic, but has decent intuition. Can give you two options for who a grumpus might be. Can help identify the queen

The Conspiracy Theorist (Good)

A grumpus who swears people are after them, and in this case, they’re right. Can theorize on who a grumpus might be and kill them with a “grumpinati trap” but will kill themself if they killed an innocent role

The Snoop (Good)

A grump with a knack for details. Can look into a grumpus and tell you if they’re a parasite with 50% certainty or the agent with 100% certainty

The Doctor (Good)

A caring, kind doctor, whos doing the best they can. Can protect one grumpus from death but will die themself in the process. Does not kill the grumpus that attacked them

The Popstar (Good)

An overzealous performer. Will perform a song at night for a grumpus that role-blocks them. Prevents the parasite and the agent from killing, but the popstar will be killed by the queen if performing for her.

The Archeologist (Good)

Someone with a knack for bodies. Has a 20% chance of being able to tell how a grumpus died and who did it. Only works on the dead

The Farmer (Good)

A hardy old farmer with shotgun experience. Can only be used three times. When active, will shoot anyone who enters their proximity. includes the snoop, the popstar, and the doctor if assigned to them, and the mayor if they wander by.

The Mayor (Neutral)

The mayor of the town, wandering around being a buddy. If the mayor dies, the town morale drops

The Scientist (Neutral)

The smartest, and simultaneously most snarky grumpus in town. Can be easily mistaken for a parasite by the snoop, does not die to the conspiracy theorists’ traps, and will bring another grumpus down with them if executed.

The Parasite (Bad)

A grumpus taken over by bugsnax. Targets one grumpus each night

The Agent (Bad)

A grumpus sent to eradicate the remaining ones. Targets one grumpus each night

The Queen (Bad)

Ruler of parasites and the biggest threat. Targets one grumpus each night and cannot be killed by the conspiracy theorist’s trap

The Fake (Bad)

Fakes evidence against a grumpus in an attempt to get them falsely executed. The prophet can tell when a faking has happened, the snoop cannot.

hey you mentioned you have a bugsnax oc but I don't think you posted about them before, if it's ok can you talk abouth them?

OP….OP….IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED….

Their name is Loch Atramento (name Not final) and as you can most likely guess they WERE my self-insert but then evolved into their own character! He’s the fourteenth (?) grumpus on Lizbert’s expedition and Snaxburg’s (self proclaimed) resident therapist!

Originally, he was a therapist in New Grump City who went on vacation for…reasons…and was bound for a cruise ship to Grumpwaii. Unfortunately, he boarded the wrong ship and ended up on Lizbert’s boat. You’d think they would have noticed, but Atramento just walked on board and into a room and nobody noticed until he went out to the deck, saw everyone and Lizbert went something like “who the fuck are you.”

He ended up just. Shrugging and deciding fuck it, so he stayed. They also took one look at the cast and thought. ‘these people are not mentally stable huh. welp!’ and proceeded to turn his hut into a makeshift office.

He’s a very polite speaking grumpus, always referring to people by their last names such as ‘Mrs. Lottablog’ or ‘Mr. Funkbun.’ They even referred to Filbo as ‘Mayor Fiddlepie’ for a fun awhile. Filbo is actually the only one Atramento refers to without honorifics. He’s also decently unphased by a lot.

Once, he had a teacup thrown near his head, missing by an inch and barely flinched, simply asking if the person wanted another cup of tea. Their also ridiculously vague about personal questions, always giving half-answers or vague responses. It drives Beffica in particular crazy.

Despite this, he’s decently good at his job! He does offer advice based on the experiences his patients have gone through and help them with it. He can also sometimes tell things based of their body language. He also serves them hot cocoa made from the chocolate sauce on Wambus’s farm (or tea, if they prefer), and plushie, if they like (thanks to Gramble and Filbo!) He does genuinely want to help, even if some people don’t like opening up. Even if he doesn’t follow his own advice a good portion of times..

That doesn’t mean he doesn’t dislike others, however. Floofty Fizzlebean is particularly a pain for him, as his emotional logic and their rational logic often butt heads.

If you want to find him in game, you won’t need to! He’ll be right smack in the middle of Snaxburg, as he stayed with Filbo, and he’ll be happy to learn you’re bringing people back!

His favorite Bugsnax is Sprinklepede and his least favorite is Sweet Fryder! He’s not one to indulge in bugsnax much (hard holding things with donut arms) but he does enjoy some of them!

I could go on about his relationships and the role he would play…buttt this post is long enough as is. Thank you for asking tho! I’m always willingly to talk about this goober :D

Okay! So I agree about Lizbert and Clumby, but Lizbert has Opinions on different beers, while Clumby likes when it has an alcohol content. Additional comedy option for Clumby: She drinks black coffee and treats it like she's drinking beer.

I think Wambus likes whiskey, because of his cowboy aesthetic, and Chandlo likes beer, because of his frat bro aesthetic.

Wiggle is definitely the complicated cocktail type. Alternatively, she drinks a whiskey drink, she drinks a vodka drink, she drinks a lager drink, she drinks a cider drink.

I don't think Floofty drinks at all because they don't see the appeal, but if they did, it'd be some kind of super-sweet liqueur. Like Midori or American schnapps or something.

Snorpy maybe used to drink, but doesn't anymore because it worked too well for his anxiety and getting to be a problem. Besides, he needs to be alert to properly fight off the Grumpinati. And Beffica is definitely a wine type, and it's probably good that she ate Bugsnax all day after her life fell apart, instead of day drinking. Wait, is that really better?

Cromdo drinks, um... moonshine. That, or he drinks whatever down on their luck PIs drink in Raymond Chandler novels.

As an older women who canonically drinks enough at parties to get tipsy, Shelda seems like she drinks sherry. I'm not sure why, because I barely know what sherry is. Or maybe it's just because the names are so similar.

Filbo drinks socially, but he could take it or leave it, because it doesn't do a lot for him. I was going to say that he'd be a good designated driver, but... I don't think Filbo drives.

I don't have strong opinions on Triffany, Eggabell or Gramble. I guess Eggabell would like telling people about the effects of alcohol in great detail if she thinks they've had too much? And if the Grumpuses have a drinking age like the US drinking age, Gramble might be too young to have figured out what he likes. He doesn't seem like he's been to a lot of parties. Triffany seems like she'd have a few drinks and then go back to standing on her own.

Jamfoot drinks... expensive brandy that he can't actually afford, so he waters it down until it's basically non-alcoholic. He likes to have a glass in his hand during meetings, because he thinks it makes it him look cool and in control.

Okay here's my headcanons of which Bugsnax characters actually know the Journalist's name. I'm also headcanoning that Lizbert mentioned their name when she told the others she wanted to invite them, and that they tend not to give their name unless prompted. They're a journalist, is that not enough?! (They may also have some personal identity issues)

REMEMBERED THEIR NAME

Lizbert: Knows their name and maybe also their address.

Beffica: Knew their name because she's read all their articles. Pretended not to know at first as part of her facade of detachment, which is why she said "You're that journalist!" when first meeting them.

Clumby: Presumably knows them as something more specific than "obsessed monster hunter who made me have to work late."

Chandlo: Remembered because he is definitely the kind of friendly and outgoing person who can remember anyone's name after hearing it once.

Wiggle: Makes a point of remembering journalist's names. Tends to unconsciously assume that any media person is there mostly for her, so she wants to make a good impression.

Snorpy: Remembered in order to look into them and figure out if they were the heroic truth-seeker kind of journalist or the villainous sensationalist kind. Liked what he found, but still suspected they were a Grumpinati impersonator when first meeting them.

Floofty: Remembers their name, but refuses to use it out of spite.

Gramble: Forgot their name, and either asked them when they met, or asked Wiggle.

Triffany: Terrible with names, apologised and asked them for it when they met.

Cromdo: Told himself he'd remember their name in case they did show up and he had the chance to sell them something, then totally forgot. Asked them what it was when they met, and immediately did the "[diminutive], can I call you [diminutive]?" thing. The Journalist said "Sure," because they didn't really care.

Eggabell: Didn't pay much attention to what Lizbert said about them, since she didn't think they'd take the invitation. Despite having quite a bit of interaction with them and worrying about their health, didn't realise she didn't know what to call them until halfway through her "I just need Filbo and... Filbo's... buddy." line.

Shelda: Tried to remember their name so she could address them by it before they introduced themself, and impress them with her mystical knowledge, but got distracted by everything else that was happening and forgot. Got away with it for a while because of her tendency to refer to people with descriptions when overacting, but exposed herself when she said "Floofty, did you ask the journalist to throw acid at you?" The Journalist made fun of her for keeping up the charade for so long, so she reminded them that Floofty had asked them to throw acid at them, and they'd done it.

Wambus: Took a little while to realise that he couldn't get away with just calling them Stranger forever, and then was too stubborn to admit defeat and ask. The Journalist specifically suggested he use their name after his "I been calling you stranger, but you been around a while" chat, but he still refused to ask what it was, or admit that he didn't already know. Eventually heard Triffany refer to them by name, but she had to do it a few times before he decided that he knew it now.

Filbo: Forget immediately after being told, and also forgot to ask when they met. Didn't realise they probably had a name until after they'd interviewed him, and didn't want to ask out of awkwardness. Hoped they or one of the others would mention it, but coincidentally, nobody ever did, at least in an unambiguous way. Eventually asked them while they were heading back to the mainland, but continues to call them Buddy anyway.

Jamfoot: Clumby told him their name when she let him know that they were also going to Snaktooth Island, and he forgot their entire existence immediately. Was confused when Clumby mentioned them by name after they returned alive, even after she clarified that they were her ex-employee who went to Snaktooth Island.

So I would make fankids for all my favorite ships and happily imagine them in the sweetest domestic scenarios and pregnancy scenarios.

And this was all fine and dandy. Easy enough to make a Toriel and Sans fankid, a Jesse and Lukas fankid. Or hell even a Filbo Fiddlepie and Beffica Wigglesnoot fankid. And I'd roleplay cute little plots and write fun little fics.

It's not even a scouting job; they're intending to found a settlement. Lizbert just gathered this random group of losers and took them to start a new life on the super dangerous food bug island nobody ever returns from. I'm not sure where they would've got their buildings from if they hadn't happened to bring Chandlo, who seems to have built all the huts singlehandledly.

I think what's actually the funniest thing about Bugsnax is that at least as far as I know it's not implied the grumpus world is at all weird whatsoever aside from its residents being weird fluffy monster muppets. You spend the whole time on the island so I think that makes the world overall feel more different and alien but the living edible bug monsters and sauce plants are entirely isolated to there. Two days after getting back the journalist has to go to tesco or something because they ran out of paper towels. Property taxes canonically exist. Like half the expedition team is literally Just Some Guy who happened to come along despite their lack of a real use on a scouting job. Why is Beffica even here she writes for gossip magazines. Has she submitted her timecard she's gonna cause issues for the HR department when they have to process payroll

Diary entry #1 (from Snaktooth Island)

I finally got here, not without any losses. My ship is broken which means that I have no way out. Not like I wanted to go. And still I feel uneasy. I found the expedition team or, at least, part of it. For now I only met three (all of the info is under 'Grumpuses' bookmark). From what I can count there's supposed to be four more. And yet I think that my assumptions are incorect. There're more houses... I wish I had more info on the residents of Snaxburg (clever name). I might ask Filbo about it. I looked around the Lizbert's house. It seems that she shared (shares?) it with someone else. From what I've gathered it's here partner Eggabel. I had no idea.

I met two more reasidents on the Simmering Springs. I've returned back only one... Two more Crumbs are in the Scorched Gorge. I'm working on it... I've grown more interested in bugsnax than I'm ready to admit. And even though I'm curious I can't make myself eat them. I don't know what really stops me. It's more psychological than physical. Perhaps they somehow activate my reaction to cuteness. In easy words: they're cute. I can't eat cute things. I've caught all sorts of things this far. I keep all of the info under the 'Bugsnax' bookmark. Gladly Filbo and others are willing to be my taste testers. Even though Gramble isn't willing to. I can't make him. I can't eat them too. I wonder what's up the mountain...

It's been a few days since I wrote. I can't help it but... I grow fond of theese Grumps. I'm almost the therapist around here. Yet even I can't deal with everything. There's more land up the mountain. Chandlo and Snorpy (not a full name possibly?) moved there after the insident. And still I have no idea what happened. Something just doesn't add up. I've returned them both back to Snaxburg. I kind of want to ask what's between them on their interviews... Would that be rude? I don't know. Might ask Filbo. I've noticed that I always mention Filbo but never write about him. We've been growing closer with him. He seems too cute to leave behind. I would never tell that to his face but... He's stupid but in a good way. Childish way maybe? Cute way. But he's not understanding. He sees what most Grumps don't see. Beffica keeps telling me that I have a crush. I don't think that's the case... is it?

thinking about post snaktooth again……everyone scoots around the trauma they would have gotten, only really briefly touching on it for angst or mentioned in fics, but. does anyone really think about it? what they’ll have to go through back on the mainland? because it won’t be smooth sailing, not for a good while.

do you think the media would eat them alive? that there would be a lot of conspiracy theories about what really went down? was lizbert megafig crazy? do you think wiggle would be doing an interview and someone implies that she killed lizbert or egg.

do you think they’d get to return to their normal lives? do you think gramble would be overwhelmed out of his mind? that beffica would find it kind of ironic, since she’d do the same thing? do you think snorpy’s paranoia and anxiety would get worse? what about floofty, or cromdo, and beffica, would their pasts get dug up, all the shady things they’ve done? would triffany and wambus get to return to their quiet lives? or would they have people banging on their door 24/7?

would people go after their familes? threaten them? find them? how do you think they feel? do you think would have to tell lizbert and eggabell’s families they’re presumed dead?

what about food? would they have food problems, not be able to eat certain things? wiggle sees sushi and thinks of her desperation to be back at the the top. gramble sees a strawberry and feels an unease. beffica can’t enjoy some her favorite foods anymore.

do you think they would hear and see them. out of the corner of their eyes, a big eyed fruit, hearing their cries in the back of your head, only for there to be nothing and they let out a shaky breath with even shakier paws for no reason?

but. what about their first night or weeks back. do you think they got any sleep, at all? that they had the events play back in their mind on loop? wonder what they could have done different. what they should have done?

do you think someone broke down? or did they all break eventually?

Okay, um... I would consider a favourite character to be one that makes me go "He/she/they! The most [description] ever!" whenever I see them, but Bugsnax has at least six of those. Chandlo, Clumby, Filbo, Floofty, the Journalist and Snorpy are all definites, and maybe Jamfoot as well. I can't test my reaction to him as easily because his only visual appearance is in his employee of the month photos.

I don't even know why Chandlo is in there, because he's not my normal type for favourite character. Sheer force of Chandlo, I guess. Triffany is my type, and is also great, so I don't know why she's not on the list. There's also characters I think a lot about like Beffica and Eggabell that also don't give that strong emotional reaction.

All three of those characters are female. My emotional responses have problematics.

In conclusion, nearly half of the characters with dialogue are my favourite, and I like the rest a lot too. Uh... the most relatable character in everything but their terrible view of others is Floofty, so let's say them. Blunted affect squad.

Beffica’s date has reached full completion and has been playtested thoroughly! This makes it date 2/15 to reach completion.

I’ll now be taking time off before getting back to work, and I’ll actually have something to announce at the end of the month. But for now, here’s date information!

y’all want miscellaneous headcanons cause i’m giving you miscellaneous headcanons

the less active grumpuses and active hobbies i think they’d have

now by active i do mean out in nature, athletic, exercise, or at least movement, so like. sports and stuff. the grumps i count as less active include Snorpy, Floofty, Gramble, Eggabell, Beffica, and Cromdo.

now starting off with Snorpy we know that he has physical limitations, as he mentions that he can’t run because he’ll go weak in the knees. i also see him as having asthma so he’d want to do something to keep healthy that isn’t too physically strenuous, or at least doesn’t need him hitting an inhaler every few minutes (i have exercise induced asthma it’s annoying)

here’s the thing. Snorpy doing ballet. and i am AWARE that ballet is actually pretty difficult but it’s common to think it’s simple so i don’t doubt Snorpy, the inactive man, wouldn’t know that, and he’d give it a try. now hERES THE REAL KICKER: GRAMBLE’S DOING IT TOO.

i think men with anxiety can take ballet classes together and struggle but they’re having fun because “hey i know you!” “oh hello. guess we’ll be seeing each other here now” and um. Yeah can we see more about snorpy and gramble friendship okay thanksies. i feel like they’d like it

Beffica and swimming. I used to be on a swim team so I know that it can be strenuous, but if you’re doing it casually, it’s REALLY easy to pace yourself adequately. Beffica seems like she’d love swimming but competing would be too much for her, so she’d take classes to learn how to do it and then spend her own time doing laps and chilling. it’s worth mentioning i see her as raccoon-like and have you seen images of wet raccoons.

moving on from Beffica, Floofty. they’d want to have a physical activity that isn’t “sweaty and gross” but still gets the job done. i feel like floofty (autistic) would hate the feeling of being sweaty and sticky. Archery is cool as fuck and, from what I remember because guess what i used to do it all the sweat was sweaty palms sometimes. Floofty doing archery, it’s good for them, and they probably feel cool as fuck while doing it.

last but not least Eggabell would be into weightlifting i love muscle-fat women
