December 31: WIPs and Ideas I'm Taking Into 2023

As the year is ending, I am considering what writing projects I will try to complete next year. Will 2023 be the year I finish my WIPs? Will it at least be the year I let go of WIPs I don't care about? We'll see.

Lummiea 💗

💗 Yay! I am finally posting something that isn't a gif! During my 'gif making break' I went back to watching a childhood cartoon, that the power puff girls, after watching a video that featured a familiar face (that being Fuzzy Lumpkins) and immediately fell in love (especially given the fact that he's voiced by Jim Cummings, the one who voices Peg Leg Pete!). And just with nearly every character I adore, I create a character to be either paired with or just exist and be left in the back burner for all eternity :)

💗 I've been journaling down an PPG AU based on my head canon on Fuzzy Lumpkins. It focuses on the lives of the two pink fluffy creatures, and eventually became a happy married couple blah, blah, blah, happy ever after. The title of the AU is called Raised in Townsville. Basically, this lovely lady floof was raised by a human couple, because she was abandoned in the middle of the woods during a storm, and the couple escaped from ruthless animals. Allegedly. There's a twist with her parents, (mostly her mother) planned to kidnap a baby lumpkin and raise her to despise her own kind while her father genuinely loved Lummiea as his daughter. There's a lot I've written down, but I think you've gotten enough to get the idea with this character. 💖

#6 and #12 for the fanfic writer asks?

Number 12: What headcanon will you keep implementing in your fics, even if canon ends up contradicting it?

I already have a headcanon that will forever be in my fictions, and canon has already contradicted it.  Scott McCall and Lydia Martin have not fully recovered from the extreme trauma that Peter Hale repeatedly inflicted.

In Scott’s case, canon has pretended that every physical, mental, and spiritual violation that Peter performed or helped arrange has had no effect on him.  There is virtually no emotional reaction to Peter’s presence or attitude and even his climactic confrontation scene in Smoke and Mirrors (4x12) was focused -- not on Scott vanquishing his fear/terror/anger/resentment of Peter -- but on Peter’s whiny manbaby grievances and the threat he posed to other people.  In Lydia’s arguably worse case, canon has decided that every physical, mental, and spiritual violation that Peter Hale inflicted should be addressed in such a way as to entertain the audience, as if it were a mean-girl fight over seating arrangements at the Senior Prom instead of psycho-sexual horror.

“You were my Beta first, Scott.  It was my Bite that changed your life, and my Bite that can end it.”

In their decision to make Scott’s heroism dependent on his refusal to seek revenge and continual resiliency in the face of trauma (which are not bad things in and of themselves) the writers decided to take a shortcut by simply having Scott act like what he went through never bothered him.  They wrote that Scott worked with Peter, stood there while Peter mocked him, fought with Peter, helped Peter out, asked Peter for help, and even stated that he had hope for Peter, without a single scene where he got to express the reality of those horrors.  Hell, Steter writers are more likely to acknowledge that Scott should have an emotional reaction to Peter, though because most of them have no empathy for any character who hasn’t murdered an innocent, they pass it off as pettiness and unwarranted in the face of events such as the ones above.

What’s worse, in order to keep Sexy, Sassy Serial-Killer Petey on the show as much as possible, the writers never had anyone else confront him either.  Not a single adult demanded that Peter own up to what he did to Scott in Season 1 or Season 4.  Not Derek, not Chris Argent, not any adult authority.  When the Sheriff held a gun on Peter in Monstrous (4x10), “That's twice, Peter. There's not gonna be a third.” as if what Peter did to Scott and Lydia didn’t count.  Did you notice that in Season 6, Melissa never referred specifically to what Peter did to her own son?  When Melissa talks to Malia in the hospital in Heartless (6x07), she speaks in generic terms “Remember who we're dealing with. Your father is a ruthless con man who always has a devious plan to hurt everyone around him.” because God forbid she make her hostility towards Peter about what he did to her own son.   She does dump him in an elevator, when he makes a lewd comment to her.  Ha-ha-ha! (retching). 

Lydia has it even worse.  She gets to confront the man who terrorized, who assaulted her, who gaslighted her, who possessed her, and it gets played for laughs.  “You. Me. You. Me.” was actually used as a light-hearted moment between scenes of Derek Hale moping over the consequences of his disastrous decisions.  Peter got to manipulate her again in Season 3B, using the threat to Stiles as a means of impelling Lydia to seek out his offered assistance, with plenty of sexual innuendo referring to that scene above.  He was the spark that lit her fire, indeed.  Ha-ha-ha! (more retching).

“There's bound to be some residual effects, but you're a strong girl. Personally I think that you're gonna pull through with a minimal amount of post traumatic stress. And maybe - a few years of profoundly disturbing nightmares.”

And somehow, Allison using the stun baton once is supposed to make up for the callous manipulation and funny disregard Peter has for Lydia’s well-being and personal integrity.  The writers at least let Lydia confront her fears about Eichen House in 6B in one of my favorite scenes.  On the other hand, the writers, eager to give Peter something-that-looks-like-a-redemption-arc-but-absolutely-is-not-by-any-stretch-of-the-imagination, had Lydia tell Malia that she had to find emotion for Peter.  (I’ve been reduced to dry heaves.) Their final scene together is an Abbot-and-Costello skit, snide and filled with false equivalence that they’re ‘snarky’ together, totally erasing the history of his abuse. “We're not getting very far with this conversation.”  No.  No, they’re not.

It turns out that the only person who get to express real emotional reaction to Peter’s action is ... Stiles.  (Because, of course it is.)  Stiles gets to attack Peter, gets to openly wish for his death, gets to hate him, gets to have an emotional reaction to his misdeeds.  Stiles gets to have what Peter did affect him.   And not a single member of the audience thought that it was wrong, except for Steter shippers who think that Stiles would want to get all up on that because nothing turns a teenage boy on like a man whose hands are covered in his friends’ blood.

That’s why I can’t abandon this headcanon.  I will always have Peter haunt Scott and Lydia at their darkest moments.  I will always have them shudder when he’s around.  He will always be a threat, sneering and prancing and lying, because there was never any true reckoning for his actions against them.  It’s why I can’t write Scott and Malia together in anything but the past tense, because my mind simply cannot imagine Scott and Malia growing together while Malia grows closer to Peter.   I often make fun of the concept, wondering how family holidays are going to work as Scott tells his children the funny story about how Grandpa Pete helped strip him of his identity and his freedom while working with the woman who murdered the rest of Mommy’s family.   That relationship is doomed.

Number 6. What is your favorite sense to incorporate in your writing and why?

It has to be touch, most often the surrounding environment.  Heat.  Cold.  Wet.  While smell might be most closely tied to memory and sight might be the one we use the most, I find touching the environment the most visceral expressions.  The feel of a stucco wall.  The worn grip of an old car.  It’s also the hardest to do for me, but I try as much as I can.

Oooh, thank you!! Those are some very good choices because I actually do have quite a few things to say about them. XD

Pete/Trudy:

It’s not quite an OTP, not in the sense that I crave more of it and I’m always ready to talk about it, but I love it and think it’s a very good ship. I know it sounds silly because she was literally made for him... but they’re really made for each other. They’re literal partner in crimes, a well-oiled team and even a battle couple where one’s strengths and peculiarities complement the other’s, and at the same time, they’re just two cute, silly romantics who give each other lovey-dovey nicknames. It might just be my love for villainous couples who genuinely love and care for each other talking here, but I think that’s an adorable dynamic. 

However, I am kind of picky about it. I remember reading some stories, years ago, where their domesticity was emphasized (which I did like) but the rest of their dynamic was... not that great. He thought she was a nag and she thought he was a boor, he didn’t care enough to remember dates and anniversaries and she was too demanding and uppity and had unreasonable expectations, he hated her cooking but couldn’t tell her that because she’d get angry and yell at him, there were jokes about her being fat or unladylike or both... sitcom married life, basically. I didn’t like that. I much prefer an expert thief Trudy who offers Pete some clever advice because they’re partners in work and in life and succeed or go down together, and a Pete who clearly loves her and likes being around her and cares about her opinions. Bonus points if they snark a bit at each other but like, mildly - not because they actually want to offend the other but because they’re generally snarky people. EXTRA bonus points if they use crime as a way to flirt or plot and execute crimes together like other people go on dates. I want them to have fun and make heart eyes at each other while robbing banks and whatnot. <3

My only exceptions are the Pete and Trudy in Wizards of Mickey and the ones in Cronache della Frontiera. Those are SO GOOD but it’s because of how lowkey or highkey fucked-up they are. And also because the Trudys in those universes are HOT. There, I said it. u.u 

I’m not the biggest WoM fan (the first seasons were pretty cool and had some really interesting concepts, but the ones that followed... eh) but seeing Trudy as a rugged, fabulous evil witch pirate, so sure of herself and competent, was super fun... just like her bickering and flirting with arrogant dark wizard Pete! 

When it comes to Cronache della Frontiera, where their relationship is Unhealthiness Central... oh, the shifting power dynamics! Badass established crime boss Trudy taking the inexpert, somewhat uncertain (and possibly younger?) newbie Pete in and being charmed by his cocky and determined attitude despite everything, finding out she does have a heart in the process, only for him to gradually become even darker than her and the driving force in their group! And the jealousy! The possessiveness! The love triangle that actually WORKS (at least for me, lol) because it’s not really a love triangle at all! The literal attempted murder! THAT is the problematic stuff I like to see, not some sexist trope about the old, fat (*eyeroll*) ball and chain!

Incidentally, WoM!Pete/Trudy and Cronache!Pete/Trudy are the reason I circled the “sexual” option. Thinking about Disney characters having sex might be weird, but those two couples? I’m 100% sure they FUCKED.

Italian!Grandpa Beagle/Grandma Duck:

AAAAAAAAAAAAH, I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!! ;_______;

It all started with this story where the Beagle Boys and their Grandpa were arrested after a botched attempted at robbing the Quacktown post office and Grandma Duck took pity on them and offered to let them work off their sentence on her farm in hopes that they’d learn to be good citizens, and the boys slowly started to like honest work and having a kindly old lady around but old Grazia stubbornly clung to their traditional thieving ways despite his life having improved, too, so there was always this simmering tension between them. Or maybe it was the story where Grandma Duck got it in her head that there was actually some good in Grandpa Beagle and he liked her company so he tried not to steal around her, and the Beagles were like “wtf is happening” and Scrooge was outraged and kept trying to warn Elvira off that risky “””friendship””” (seh), and in the end he did steal something and she caught him except maybe it wasn’t really him and maybe she was unsure about their relationship and self-sabotaging by looking for any excuse to call it off and he didn’t like being with someone who didn’t trust him and/or couldn’t accept him as he was so they basically had a messy break up. Or maybe the one where everyone in Duckburg was literally brainwashed by their new phones except for them and Scrooge because ahahah old people hate technology, and they joined up in this badass old people heroic team to save the city, and Grandma and Grandpa had this nice little “oh, you’re pretty good at this!” “well, you’re not bad yourself!” moment while they took down the villains.

... okay, so I don’t really remember which one of these came first, but still, thanks to all of them I am DELIGHTED at the idea of this romance. I mean, they’re both smart, headstrong, driven, generally sensible, sometimes petty, pretty damn badass old people who believe very strongly in their own values? Except those values are pretty much opposite because she’s all about honesty and hard work and doing the right thing even when it’s difficult, but he takes pride in being a thief and wants to get rich by stealing? But then, they both care a lot about family and tradition? Except her family is fundamentally good if quirky and he literally encourages his to be ruthless criminals, and the traditions they care about reflect that? They’re basically foils, and the contrast and the similarities between them are both so strong... and so entertaining! 

And the soft old people romance! The possibilities for old-fashioned courting and quiet moments together just talking about their youth and the old days or about their families, the subtle but genuine compliments and expressions of affection, the rare but easy handholding and the heartfelt “I care about you”s...

I would DEFINITELY read fanfictions about them. But I think they would need to be either AUs (someone let them play a bickering couple in a parody or period story, PLEASE!) or, if set in regular Duckburg, either pre-relationship or mutual pining stuff. I’ve already seen them in a (sort of) romantic relationship in canon and it didn’t end well... and I honestly can’t see things ever ending any different. His nephews might come around and support them, especially if they liked her as a person and kind of came to see her as their grandma, too, like in that one story mentioned above, but I don’t think her family would. At least, not all of them, and especially NOT Scrooge, who’d do anything to keep them apart. Plus, unless he suddenly decided not to be a thief anymore or she decided to become a thief, too, - I can’t even tell WHICH option sounds more unlikely! - their differences would eventually drive them apart anyway. 

And that’s... kind of another thing I like about this ship, weirdly enough? The “it’s not unrequieted but it still can’t happen, and not because of any external pressure but because of who they are as people” angst. And the “I can’t be be with you because of who you are but I wouldn’t love you if you were anyone else” bittersweet angst/fluff combo. As the bingo square says, “it’s complicated.”

Scrooge/Brigitta:

No offense to anyone who does like it... but I just don’t. I usually appreciate unrequieted ships for the angst, but here the obsessive aspect is a major turn-off for me. Especially in those stories where it’s portrayed as a positive thing, like an expression of True Love or a sign that Brigitta is a strong-willed person who just has to hold out a little longer or push a little harder before she finally gets the happy ending she deserves. Or in those stories where other characters suggest Scrooge is just playing hard to get. Or where he’s forced to endure a date with her as punishment for something. Or where he gets scolded for not agreeing to go out with her, rather than for treating her too rudely or taking advantage of her feelings to reach his goals. Just... let people not date people they don’t like that way, maybe?!

That’s not to say I don’t like Brigitta as a character. I do, I think she has potential, and I don’t like it when she gets the short end of the stick, either. Like when Scrooge uses her to get what he wants, or he treats her badly even if for once she’s not being the clingy, smothering person she usually is around him. 

I do like those rare moments where they get along and he’s nice to her because he wants to and not because he’s prompted by either guilt or pressure. But that’s not really enough to make me ship them. Like, I could see them as friends? Or as mentor and pupil or equal business partners, since she’s a businesswoman in her own right? Bur never as romantic partners.

I’d say I wouldn’t read fic about them, but I actually did, once. It was a sad story about Scrooge dying and Brigitta trying to rebuild her life without him when he had been her goal and purpose for so long, and it had hints of Scrooge/Goldie, but technically, it still counts. And I actually wouldn’t mind reading more stuff like that... with Brigitta learning to let go and live her own life for herself.

Why are you so into The Purge as a scenario???

Listen, this took me by surprise too. Explaining it now makes me sound like a crazy person. But I will try.

The Purge is a horror movie franchise, set in a dystopian near-future America where all crime is legal for one day a year, including murder. Pretty dark, edgy, violent stuff! I am not especially interested in the dark and grim sociopolitical realities of this situation, in case my prompts don’t make that clear. I am here for the absurdity, and in the case of most of these fandoms, for the weird and hilarious contrast between my requested fandom and the over the top violence of The Purge. You don’t even need to watch any of The Purge movies, because let’s be real, I don’t care about the world building or logistics here, and I’m not interested in a true crossover so much as I am in borrowing the “all crime is legal for a day” scenario. If any of the Purge prompts speak to you, read some wiki summaries and have at it.

Don’t feel obligated to write those prompts if these aren’t scenarios that appeal to you! And if you do write them, please, don’t make them super dark. Again, the appeal here is the absurdity, not the grim violence of it all.

Derry Girls: Erin Quinn, Clare Devlin, Michelle Mallon, James Maguire

Let me start off by saying you don’t need to include all four in a fic if you don’t want to! I’m perfectly happy with any configuration you end up putting together. If you want to include all the gang, that’s great too! I love everybody nominated so feel free to go wherever your imagination takes you.

I love how the group will spend all day making fun of each other but always come together when it counts. I would definitely enjoy you keeping with the show and doing something with that. Everyone going up on stage to perform with Orla and James realizing that he belongs as a Derry Girl are two of my favorite scenes.

Prompts:

Erin/Clare: I would love a fic where Erin and Clare really do go to prom together instead of the whole thing with Mae and John Paul. Maybe they go for real, or maybe Erin goes as her fake date to support her and then they have to continue the charade after prom. Erin would definitely do a lot of research and throw herself fully into being the best lesbian she could be, which obviously would include practicing kissing Clare a whole lot. I love a good fake dating fic that has the couple accidentally catching feelings. I also love the idea of everyone thinking she’s just making a statement and her dad being the only one to realize her feelings are for real.

I also love the idea of them bonding over a crush on Ms. De Brun, either after the first time or having her roll back into town and Erin going full Dean Pelton “This better not awaken anything in me.”

Michelle/James: I’m very into their combative but loving relationship. Michelle asking him to stay in the finale *__* I’m also very much into introducing a cousinfucking aspect but if you aren’t, don’t worry. I also enjoy how they are in the show, so if you keep their relationship at that level I’ll still be perfectly happy. If you are into it, Michelle totally gives off a “stop making love to me while I’m trying to fuck you” vibe and I would really enjoy seeing how annoyed she would be to realize he was more than just a ride to her.

Michelle gets caught in a time loop and has to figure out how to escape it. Maybe she lets James leave Derry all those other times and the version we see is the one she got right. Or maybe James and Michelle both get caught up in a loop and try increasingly ridiculous schemes to get out of it.

Or maybe Michelle’s mom gave up James’ room when she thought he was leaving with his mom and now James and Michelle have to share a room. They have to deal with all the feelings the finale brought up.

If you are more inspired by one of the other configurations please go for it. I loved James being instantly on Clare’s side when she came out. Finding out how Michelle and/or Erin and/or Clare’s friendship started would be fun. I liked James coming through for Erin when she got stood up. If you are more inspired by James and Erin please keep it platonic. I like them just as friends. I’m definitely open to James, Michelle, and Erin being queer/bi/etc if you’re interested in including that in any of these prompts.

Mad Men: Bob Benson, Pete Campbell

This is probably my forever yuletide fandom! The show’s been over for a while now, but I still have an enormous soft spot for the love story of Bob and Pete, and would read any number of variations on it.

I don’t mind if you ignore certain parts of canon (s7) or go canon divergent, you can also follow canon if want (Bob shows up in Wichita??) GO WILD.

Shipping Bob/Pete began as a joke for me, but I do ship it for real. I like that Bob is all *_________* about Pete and Pete is simultaneously disgusted and intrigued. He might not be gay, but he’s definitely into someone who’s into him.

Also, if you just want to write about Bob I’d be really interested in his past and what the whole “manservant” deal was. We pretty much know nothing about him and I’d be interested in some backstory, but I’m not exactly looking for Bob/OMC PWP. In case it seemed that way!

Fake dating: The CEO of a big company is secretly gay and Pete thinks pretending to be gay will form a bond of solidarity that will give him an edge, but the CEO mistakes this for interest and Pete scrambles to come up with an excuse to get out of doing anything gay and he comes up with, “I have a lover! Groundhog day fic: Pete has to go through the same day again and again, tries to get help from Ken, Peggy, etc, and then comes to the realization that only Bob believes him.

Bob is a conman who starts out trying to seduce Pete as part of a long con, but ends up falling in love.

what if Bob is a spy who mistakes Pete for his contact because Pete compliments his tie? what kind of spy and mistaken identity shenanigans could ensue?

What if Bob and Pete + the Purge??? I feel like Bob would do well. He’s got secrets. Maybe one of those secrets is a facility with weaponry. Also, sodomy wasn’t legal in New York until the 1980s. What if someone in the office awkwardly asks Bob what he’s going to do during the Purge and Pete is appalled, because how uncouth! Everyone knows you don’t ask people what they’re going to do during the Purge! And then Bob makes some veiled comment about how he always spends his Purges banging dudes, and Pete is horribly Intrigued because sex stuff is never a Purge thing he’d thought of.

Queen’s Thief - Megan Whalen Turner: Gen, Attolia

I love these books, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that I love Attolia, Gen, and their relationship best. I didn't see the twist where Gen confessed his love to Attolia coming at all the first time I read it and I frantically read to the end to make sure that everything turned out ok. As soon as I got there, I flipped to the front and started again. Somewhere between that moment and when I reached that scene on the stairs again, they became one of my all time OTPs. To be honest, it was probably when she cut off his hand.

I just love them so much, with how ruthless Attolia is and how clever Gen is, and all I want is a fic that focuses on them and their sort of messed up dynamic and that will be enough. I also love Kamet/Costis and would be happy to see something about them in addition to some Gen/Attolia content. I'm open to canon divergent AUs, but, please, no AUs where Attolia doesn't cut off his hand.

Prompts:

Part of what I love so much about this pairing is how terrifyingly competent they are together, and what a good team they make. So I’d love a fic about something like, what if some of their barons are stupid enough to think that Gen and Attolia can be turned on each other? Obviously Gen and Attolia have to go crush them together.

They have to go on some kind of diplomatic visit to Eddis or Sounis or maybe something further afield and absolutely nothing goes as planned. Again, show me how terrifyingly competent they are! Or just go for the lolz: how hilariously wrong can things go, and how do Gen and Attolia deal with it? You can also go the action/adventure route: do they have to get themselves out of a sticky situation by fighting or sneaking around?

Speaking of sneaking around: I’m also into the many possibilities of the scenario where Gen teaches Attolia how to sneak into his bedroom for once. Sexy, funny, emotional, all of the above, I’m into any of it!

Part of the messed up dynamic that I love with these two is how fear and love and guilt are all mixed up together for them, after Attolia cuts off her hand. So I’d be really interested in anything about how/if Gen gets over his fear of Attolia in bed or not, but maybe definitely at least in part through sex.

And because I’ve got a soft spot for Costis and Kamet: Gen and Attolia attend Costis and Kamet's wedding, in disguise or not. Maybe it makes them think of their own wedding! Maybe everyone just reflects sappily on True Love! Or maybe someone gets up to shenanigans!  It’s up to you, dear writer!

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: May Parker, Olivia Octavius

"My friends call me Liv," Doc Ock says to Miles. And then when she walks into Aunt May's house, May says, "Oh great, it's Liv." I would really love to read a lot more about what's going on with that. Sex is not a must, but I do ship them and anything about a romantic relationship would be great. If you're not into that, then I'd love to read more exploring their dynamic in general -- May is so fondly exasperated and not remotely surprised, but they both immediately go to the mat.

Prompts:

Pre-movie college backstory. Were they rivals-turned-lovers in college? Friendly but disinterested roommates who spent all their time playing science cloak-and-dagger games before realizing over spring break that their nemesis was their roommate? 

Pre-movie Spidey parallels backstory. May was clearly supporting Peter as he developed into your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, and Octavia has been... what? We know she's CEO of Alchemax during the movie -- was she promoted? Is she the founder? I'd love something exploring their parallel paths, May as a behind-the-scenes string-puller and Liv as a mad scientist, with Peter in the middle working to counter Liv more explicitly. 

Post-movie, MIles goes to visit Aunt May and finds Liv there. They have a really awkward tea. 

Post-movie, Liv tries to make a comeback. May rolls her eyes and gets to work.

Purge!AU: What happens to the two of them on Purge night? Does May reluctantly go out to try to stop whatever Liv is up to this time? Do they end up working together for some reason? Do they declare it amateur night and just order a pizza?

Also, I would be interested in a fun fic where May and Liv both end up sort of awkwardly mentoring Miles because Miles and Liv end up in a classic supervillian-superhero team-up against some other big villain or disaster.

Fleabag: Fleabag, Priest

So I watched all of Fleabag in a weekend fueled by pizza and beer and loved all of it. But, not gonna lie, what really got me to sit down and finally watch the show was all this talk of a hot priest romance going on in season 2. Others may never believe Moriarty from BBC Sherlock could bring it like that, but I saw the light.

I’m absolutely fine with shippy fic for this fandom. If you want to go down the hardcore priest fucking road then go wild, but I did love everything about the show. Fleabag herself and all of her issues, Claire (and her haircut) and everyone else. Whatever you can write for me that captures how heartbreaking and funny the show is would be great, I'm sure.

With all this talk of the cool Pope maybe considering letting priests marry let’s pretend that the Vatican really does that and now priests everywhere can get married. How would Fleabag feel when she sees the news on the telly? How would the Priest? Imagine them bumping into each other after the news come out.

I think one of the most interesting things about season 2 was the Priest knowing when Fleabag was breaking the fourth wall. What if the fox is his personal fourth wall that no one sees but Fleabag that he can’t leave behind until he deals with his shit? 

Purge prompt: Brexit finally happens and the new PM decides to try this Purge thing the Americans have been doing every year. How would Fleabag fare in the purge? Would she stay locked inside with her family having to fight off Stepmother, who’s down to do some purging herself and is scarily good at killing people? Would she go off to hunt Martin? Maybe fucking a Priest doesn’t count if it’s during purge night.

The Eagle | Eagle of the Ninth: Marcus Flavius Aquila, Esca Mac Cunoval

I love this stupid movie so much.I love Marcus, Esca, and Marcus/Esca and would prefer them shipped. UST/pre-slash is okay, too, if you'd rather not write a romance, but please at least leave me the hope that it's going to happen!

What I really love about Marcus/Esca is how even when Marcus is the one who holds official power over Esca as his owner, Esca is always the one with the power in their relationship because Marcus is so desperately into him. I love Marcus pining for Esca but being too honourable to do anything about it, while Esca is too angry at himself for pining for Marcus to do anything about it. I also enjoy Marcus having Roman issues about wanting Esca to fuck him and I don't care if they're not entirely historically accurate. I would just be very into Marcus having very rigid ideas about sex between men and struggling with wanting Esca to fuck him and Esca helping him overcome that.

Some general things about them that I love, both in the movie and in potential fic: cultural miscommunications, or just them worrying enough about miscommunication that they don't even try. Marcus having such utter blind trust in Esca. Esca having to relearn how to let somebody care about him.

That said, my first request is PWP. /o\ I would really, really love a Seal People Made Them Do It fic. Maybe the Seal Prince wants Esca to prove Marcus is his slave, or maybe there's a general boning festival going on and it'd be weird/suspicious for Esca not to participate, I don't know (and not too concerned with historical accuracy on this one). But I'm very into the danger element of they have to fake it for their safety/survival and the intimacy element of them understanding each other with few or no words. Like from Esca's POV, he gets that Marcus understands and consents, or from Marcus', understanding that if he doesn't want to go along with it, they can try to kill their way out. And, okay, if Marcus is a little ashamed of being into it, I am very, very there for that. :9

I would also love a roadtrip fic! The movie clearly ends with Marcus setting Esca up to choose their next adventure, so what does he choose? I don't have a lot of specific plot ideas for that, but I would definitely love to see them on another journey together, maybe hitting all the fun roadtrip tropes, like huddling for warmth in the woods and there being only one bed in their room at the hospitia. 

Or, if you're feeling up to something fun and weird, a Purge AU. Honestly, Ancient Rome is a setting that seems oddly suited to hosting the Purge and I would love to see it either played relatively straight to dark and dramatic effect, or humorously deconstructed, with Esca exasperated by more let's-kill-people Roman nonsense.

I would also really be into fic from Esca's POV, holding Marcus during the surgery and contemplating letting twitch and die, and then ~looking into his eyes~ and feeling sick with himself for having such a thought about the man who saved his life, even if he is a Roman asshole. Perhaps followed by all the times Esca could have had him killed or let him die and deciding not to because HONOR until he realizes no, actually, I just really, really want to bone this dude. And then he follows up on that realization, in whatever romantic form that takes.

Hey Pella! Can you tell me about your Family Reunion WIP?

I sure can! Family Reunion was my first Doctor Who fic. I didn't start small - it's a reunion fic where Rose was the one who was pregnant on Bad Wolf Bay. Mickey uses the dimension cannon instead, and finds the Doctor immediately after Midnight. The Doctor uses the canon to jump back into Pete's World and encounters his (previously unknown) seven year old son.

I've posted a few parts previously (check out my #connor tyler tag, I think?) but here's a snippet I don't think I've posted anywhere yet.

“When I was late at first, I just thought, well, Void travel, could have been some interference. I made it through another whole month before I took my first test. Even then I still thought it was a bit of a lark but it was best to be safe… and maybe I wanted to believe that I could have something to keep you close to me.” She still couldn’t express the deeply conflicting emotions she’d felt before getting the results of her first test, but from the way the Doctor hummed low and sympathetically in his chest, he understood.She focussed on the way his hands gently caressed her in soothing patterns, encouraging her words to keep coming.

“I think I must have taken every brand of test there was, from every store,” she said. “I thought, maybe the tests in Pete’s World are defective, maybe they won’t work on someone from a different universe; I dunno, anything. But eventually I accepted the truth: I missed my third month and every single test came up positive.”

The Doctor pressed a shaky kiss to the top of her head, and she fancied she could feel his regret at not having been there: for her, to see it for himself. Rose understood. It should have been a happy time for them, waiting anxiously, together, for the test results and celebrating in each other’s arms when they found they’d created a miracle.

Instead it had ended with Rose lying on the cold tile of the bathroom, curled around the toilet, pressing her face into the linoleum as she wondered what the hell she was going to do now.

And then, of course, she’d received the telepathic summons to Norway.

“Oh, Rose.” The Doctor’s voice was so quiet she didn’t notice he’d spoken at first. She clutched his arms tighter around her and the Doctor obliged, curling protectively around her to place a kiss on her temple. “Did you think you were going home?” The words came out of him so easily; too easily, and she wondered how long he’d been waiting to ask that.

Rose shook her head but the Doctor held her tighter and she knew he’d sensed her hesitation. She truly hadn’t known what to think, careening wildly between ecstatic hope and ruthless pragmatism. And she still hadn’t told anyone about the baby.

“You were the first one I told,” she said at last, her voice gone all squeaky but there was no help for that now. “In a way.” The Doctor let out a shuddering sigh. Rose squirmed, and he loosened his grip just slightly, enough for her to maneouver herself in his lap until she was facing him. They met each other’s eyes for an instant before she threw her arms around his neck and buried her face in his chest.

That bloody beach had been haunting her dreams for the better part of a decade. Now he was here, she could touch him, she was touching him. She was never going to stop touching him.

“When did you tell your family? Your mother?” The questions were quiet, optional. Leaving everything up to her but also giving her direction if she wanted it. Rose sniffed, turning her head to the side as a small grin broke out on her face.

“In the end it was decided for me, I suppose,” she said. She’d managed to hold herself together until they’d gotten home from Norway. “One day we were sitting together, just watching telly. I had a complete breakdown over a nappy commercial. Mum put the pieces together pretty quick, after that.”

He huffed a laugh at that, because it was funny, even though it wasn’t. Rose pulled back slightly to look into his face.

“This… this isn’t a dream, right?” Her voice trembled slightly. “I dreamed it so many times, you were here and I was holding you, then I woke up alone…”

The Doctor pulled her impossibly closer, Rose wishing she could disappear into his body so they would never have to be separated again. “I had the same dreams,” he admitted. “And I swear to you, Rose, this is not a dream. I’m not going anywhere. Not without you. Not without my family.”
