transmasc readings of coda are so prominent and it baffles me
#like more than just the games whole spiel on entitlement and projection as a type of parasitism its just a strange interpretation to me#lets dispel for a second that the act of prescribing any assumption (like that of gender) onto coda is counter to the game's emotional core#and just go with the flow here. like yeah we'll ascribe a gender headcanon onto coda sure#it doesn't make sense that the narrator would then go on to correctly gender coda as a man#(even if it is out of an assumption that coda is a cis man and not trans)#because it doesn't make sense for the narrator to correctly gender coda in any instance really#correctly gendering coda entails this presumption of respect for coda's personhood that the narrator fundamentally does not have LOL#and the inverse here- coda being a woman- is much more coherent & in line with how the narrator continually refuses to engage with anything#that he can't personally relate or project onto#the narrator misgendering coda throughout the entirety of the game especially reads as more powerful#considering how coda's voice is repeatedly diminished + altered + flat out erased#at the insistence that the narrator knows coda best
