The stop-start freeze-frame kaleidoscopic density of many lives packed into one I have to think of time in different ways lest it consumes me but also the line between the past and the present I have altogether abandoned keeping score of it's Godlike the poetic practice of shrinking twenty years into a series of days
Monday: I was born Tuesday: I stepped off BART and into the San Francisco air the first time Wednesday: the day I asked you to marry me and you refused Thursday: the day you never woke up—I called and called Friday: I became immortal because I wanted to remember forever

On an unseasonably warm afternoon in late November of 1966, hundreds of San Francisco State University students jammed shoulder-to-shoulder on the campus commons, enraptured by a handful of English department professors who took turns reading passages from an 825-word book of erotic poetry.
Just a few weeks prior, Lenore Kandel’s “The Love Book” had barely sold any copies. Then it was discovered by San Francisco’s obscenity squad, a police officer duo who raided local shops and entertainment venues to prevent the public from watching or reading about subjects they deemed to be scandalous. Their punitive response, which eventually led to a weekslong obscenity hearing, ultimately caused Kandel’s book to skyrocket in popularity.
...
The last poem in the collection descends into a post-coital haze. “We are transmuting / we are as soft and warm and trembling as a new gold butterfly / the energy indescribable / almost unendurable / at night sometimes I see our bodies glow.”
Kandel sticking the “F-word” in close proximity to mentions of angels and deities was a step too far, a sacrilegious decision, in the eyes of officers Peter Maloney and Sol Weiner, who confiscated copies of the book from the Psychedelic Shop on Haight Street (where Slice House is now) and City Lights bookstore. They subsequently arrested the booksellers on charges of peddling obscene content.

To Seek or To Settle? She could not decide. Growing jaded of hiding her light inside. She was not the star they wanted her to be, but merely a reflection of their inner being. And so, she vowed to continue her journey only appearing when the weary were worthy. From dawn to dusk, in the absence of worry;

Celeste Conner + Tooth & Nail - Into The 90's
from the Your Silence Will Not Protect You compilation tape, originally uploaded to archive.org as part of the NOISE_ARCH tape collection
Tumblr media
I don't think this song is great or anything, but it 100% captures a very specific aesthetic that existed in the late 80s/early 90s. So here it is for posterity.

Gone Fishing
Right before
I woke this morning
my mind was full
of an image of me
standing at the starry shore
of a dream
with a fishing rod in my hands,
fishing for wakefulness.
I caught the first breath of morning
on my hook
and pulled,
reeling it in, in, into me.
Then, with a deep gasp,
I opened my eyes.

Leila Mottley was regularly writing and performing poetry even before she published her novel Nightcrawling at only nineteen, in 2022; today we get an advance peek into her forthcoming first collection, woke up no light. Divided into hoods—sections on Girlhood, Neighborhood, Falsehood, and Womanhood—the poems instruct us, as here, in the art of noticing, speaking boldly, and feeling deeply.
what to do when you see a Black woman cry
stop. hum a little / just for some sound / just for a way to fill us up it is streetlamp time / all moon-cheeked black girls are mourning / a wailing kind of undoing don’t mistake this as a tragedy / it is sacred don’t mistake this as a glorious pain / we hurt.
don’t tell me it will be alright. make me a gourmet meal and don’t expect me to do the dishes after don’t try to hug me without asking first if i slept last night / if i need some jasmine tea / and a bath in a tub deep enough to fit my grief
and if i say i want a hug don’t touch my hair while you do it / don’t twist my braids around your fingers or tell me my fro is matted in the back from banging my head on the wall of so many askings
you think we are sobbing for the men, but we are praying for the men / their favorite sweat-soaked t-shirts we are screeching for our thighs for our throats / and our teeth-chipping / for the terror and the ceremony / and the unending always of this sky
so if i let you see a tear drip / if i let you see my teeth chatter know you are witnessing a miracle know you are not entitled to my face crack / head shake / sob but i do not cry in front of just anyone so stop. hum a little / just for some sound / just to fill me up

April 12, Xi'an, China, Qinglong Temple/青龙寺 (Part 3 - History):
A model of Qinglong Temple in Tang dynasty (618 - 907 AD):
Tumblr media
There must have been something like thirty engravings of famous poems about the temple lining the walls of the corridors. Below are three examples of these engravings, from these poems one can get a feel for how Qinglong Temple used to look like. A note on the translations: they are rather unpolished as I just wanted to get the meaning across.
Tumblr media
《題青龍寺詩》 [唐] 朱慶餘 寺好因崗勢,登臨值夕陽。 青山當佛閣,紅葉滿僧廊。 竹色連平地,蟲聲在上方。 最憐東面靜,為近楚城墻。
Translation (by me):
"In Commemoration of Qinglong Temple" By Zhu Qingyu (Tang dynasty) The beauty of this temple comes from the mountains, By the time I summited it was already dusk. Verdant peaks behind temple buildings, Scarlet leaves filling the corridors. Bamboo groves connecting flat areas, Chirping of insects above it all. Only the east side remains still, Since it's close to the city walls.
Tumblr media
《清明日青龍寺上方賦得多字》 [唐] 皇甫冉 上方偏可適,季月況堪過。 遠近水聲至,東西山色多。 夕陽留徑草,新葉變庭柯。 已度清明節,春秋如客何。
Translation (by me):
"Qingming Festival Above Qinglong Temple" By Huangfu Ran (Tang dynasty) It's comfortable up in the mountains, Watching the season pass by. Sounds of flowing water from near and far, Views of mountains from east and west. Setting sun upon the grassy path, Growing leaves cover the courtyard trees. Qingming Festival has come and gone, Just like the seasons and the temple visitors.
Tumblr media
Translation (by me):
"Early Summer at Qinglong Temple" By Bai Juyi (Tang dynasty) Light shower settled the dust, Temple grounds blending with the hills. Setting sun outside temple gates, The scene filled with an air of serenity. An old monk stands in idleness, There are no worldly passersby in the stillness. Remaining birds having sung their melodies, New leaves providing ample amounts of shade. End of spring was just days ago, Summer clouds are already towering above. Every day we feel the passing of seasons, Our hair graying in the meantime. Why obsess over bustling cities, When we can return to the lush countryside? These verdant mountains are but a corner of the world, Here I stand and reflect upon the state of my heart.
Huiguo and Kukai
In the first part I mentioned that Qinglong Temple was where Kukai/空海 studied Vajrayana Buddhism (the Chinese Esoteric tradition was also called "Tangmi"/唐密, since it was very popular in Tang dynasty) under Huiguo/惠果. Huiguo was a student of the famous Vajrayana Buddhist master and translator Amoghavajra (Chinese name Bukong/不空). Huiguo eventually became a master himself in the Chinese Esoteric tradition, and was an Acharya (Sanskrit term meaning teacher; translated phonetically as asheli/阿阇黎 in Chinese) who had many students from different places, including from surrounding countries. Kukai was one of his last notable students before he passed away. Kukai returned to Japan in 806 AD and founded the Shingon school of Buddhism/真言宗 (also sometimes called Eastern Esotericism/東密).
Kukai was also a calligrapher and a poet, below are two examples of his works (first is an ink rubbing of his calligraphy work titled "Buddha", second is his calligraphy work named Huushincho/風信帖; both were written in Chinese):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Closeup of Huushincho (from Wikipedia). The original is at Touji Temple in Kyoto, Japan.
Tumblr media
Shōryō shu/Xinglingji/性靈集, a collection of kanshi by Kukai. Kanshi/漢詩 is a Japanese word for Chinese poetry. These books here are a gift from Japan.
Tumblr media
Bunkyō hifu ron/Wenjingmifulun/文鏡秘府論 by Kukai which discusses Chinese poetry. These books are a gift from Japan.
Tumblr media
There are also other gifts from Japan. Left is the top of a khakkhara staff (In Chinese and Japanese: xizhang/锡杖/錫杖, shakujō/錫杖). Right is a Vajra (in Chinese and Japanese: jingangchu/金刚杵/金剛杵, kongosho/金剛杵), this is a Vajrayana ritual object. This particular Vajra is commemorative and bears the names of Huiguo and Kukai:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's all for Qinglong Temple. Next up is another famous temple in Xi'an, Daci'en Temple/大慈恩寺.

hi vylet! i come from an area that's. somewhat near the hudson bay, or at least near enough that like. i'm very aware of it. i was wondering, if you're comfortable with answering. what's the significance of the hudson bay clip used across I Was The Loner of Paradise Valley?
i wrote this in the paradise valley digital booklet but i may as well talk about it here!
a lot of the mixtape is dedicated to and mindful of my middle school classmate pedro. i won't go into great detail about him, but he was probably my best and only real irl friend ever until i reunited with sylver.
pedro and i, after becoming friends a year prior, were put into a final project together for our history class. the class groups were instructed to write a song that incorporated the key vocabulary and events of the american revolutionary war into the lyrics.
what was expected of everyone was just like song lyrics and nothing more. but i was rlly deep into music production at that point and pedro was also keen to do a bunch of actual tunes for the project. so along with two other classmates who were also assigned to our group, we made an actually, 'fully produced' ep of music for the class. everybody else in the class had done like covers of other songs or just wrote poetry essentially.
i'm going to brag about this forever, even though the ep was actually terrible, but we impressed the teacher so much with it that — while everyone only had one song they were allowed to present — we were allowed to, and requested to, play the entire ep for the class. of those, was "In the Hudson Bay" which was played SEVERAL times because the class liked that song so much apparently.
the hook of "in the hudson bay, you know how we do it" is a bar that pedro came up with himself. the flow, the attitude, the delivery, and even the phrase itself is extremely hype still lmao. that is pedro himself though. he had a natural talent for rapping. i would have loved to see him keep going ahahah. i don't think he'd really be interested in that, 10 years later.

Maxley Mafia AU (yes there will be art for this too dw)
Max
Lives just below the poverty line - with his dad getting fired and being forced to go back to college, they're struggling for money big time
Max gets a job at a large company (bradley's fathers company to be precise) and starts embezzling funds to help support his father
Its not a lot, only a few hundred here and there - enough to get them by but not too much to be caught
Little does he know that the company he works for is the literal fucking MAFIA
Bradley
Is employed at his fathers business
His father runs the most successful business in the country, and naturally with a man as powerful as his father they have *lots* of ties to *a lot* of important people (he basically runs an underground mafia to keep other competitors at bay/out of his way)
When they hire Max and Bradley finds out he's annoyed that he has to deal with him both at college and at his fathers work
He absolutely makes it his mission to annoy Max as much as possible
The company itself def know abt Max's embezzlement but its not a large amount so its not a huge concern
Regardless they set Bradley up to "take care of him" (unalive lol), seeing as they're classmates and Bradley already knows him
So with max now on his hitlist he has to get close enough to Max to take him out (on a date? with a sniper? who knows)
Bradley ends up falling in love with him instead
The plot to eliminate Max is essentially getting Bradley to lure him away and dispose of him, but he keeps fucking up - max catches him off guard by being, well- max
Slipping a drug into Max's drink while taking him out to coffee, only for him to "spill" Max's drink last second, as Max tells him about his struggles for money, how everything he does is for his father.
Hiding a knife up his sleeve as he and Max walk through a secluded area of town, preparing to plunge the blade into his back, only for Max to turn around and grin at him, so happy and content to just be there with him, with Bradley, that he fumbles. That kindness, being directed at him of all people- it’s not something he's ever had before.
Bradley feels bad for trying to kill him but tells himself it wont happen again (it does. a lot.)
Eventually the evil plots become less evil and turn into genuine requests to hang out and spend time with Max. Max is clueless to the entire thing, and just thinks Bradley's being nice, albeit a little insistent, by inviting him out so often.
They find themselves star gazing in a field, and Bradley cant help but reach out for Max's hand- he's so close, Max's body mere inches away from his own. Max glances over, his eyes reflecting the stars above and gods he may as well be the galaxy because Bradley can't stop staring.
They don't talk about what happened that night, but they both know that something changed
After that, Max starts to notice things about Bradley - the faint freckles on his face, the way his hair falls in front of his eyes when he reads, the way he tenses up at the mention of his family, how passionate he is when talking about literature and poetry, how he likes rainy weather and hates the boiling hot summers- he notices everything.
And then he notices something he shouldn't.
A paper- multiple papers in fact -fallen out of Bradley's books after they were tossed haphazardly onto a desk. papers detailing his embezzlement and notes about-
his murder.
Bradley was trying to kill him?

But a neo-pagan sets aside 26 December – 22 January as a month devoted to Hestia.

Prayers•
Historical-
Holy Queen of Sanctity, we hymn you, Hestia, whose abiding realm is Olympus and the middle point of earth and the Delphic laurel tree! You dance around Apollo’s towering temple rejoicing both in the tripod’s mantic voices and when Apollo sounds the seven strings of his golden phorminx and, with you, sings the praises of the feasting gods. We salute you, daughter of Kronos and Rhea, who alone brings firelight to the sacred altars of the gods; Hestia, reward our prayer, grant wealth obtained in honesty; then we shall always, dance around your glistening throne.
For the lost -
Blessed Hestia, the first and the last, and the always flame. May your light burn bright and strong, May your prayers be those of respect and love, May you guide the lost, And give to those who have nothing. I give thanks to you, Hestia, for all that you have done And continue to do.
For people with intrusive thoughts -
I ask Hestia, the kind goddess, to help those who feel down. May they find comfort and peace inside of their homes and inside their own minds. Protect them for their destructive thoughts, and be the safe place they need so much
A prayer for homeles—
In Hestia’s name, may you always have a home and a roof over your head. May you always be comfortable and warm with a full belly. May you always be in good spirits and good company, never knowing the pervading loneliness that envelopes the soul.
Morning
Blessed Hestia, Fill this home with your light and bounty, As the day fills it with golden sunshine.
Evening
Glorious Hestia, Let your hearth fire warm this house, As night draws her shadowed cloak over it now.
Blessings of the kitchen-
Hestia bless my little kitchen, I love it’s every nook And bless me as I do my work, Wash pots and pans and cook. May the meals that I prepare, Be seasoned from above, With thy blessings and thy grace, But most of all thy love

I use resources, I do not own the info, and most deep dives have UPG (that I use in my work.) And I only take some information from sources. I am 14, this is my hobby, I am learning but I spent many hours and days on this, and I am always open to criticism. I have been doing worship for 5 years. Please know you can use the info, I do not sue, but I will take action if this work is used without permission and not put as a resource if used in any work. without permisson and not put as a resource if used in any work, for the public.

Algy flew over to the rocky headland at the northern end of the bay and settled down on the long grass beside an intriguing bog pool, hoping to catch a glimpse of his good friend Plog the frog.
Still somewhat breathless from the exertion of dancing in the sea spray, he decided to observe fluffy bird best practice and concentrate on his breathing: take a deep breath in, hold it, breath out, hold it… But there seemed to be a wee complication, for it had a rather more extensive effect than he had been anticipating…
Of course one never knows quite what to expect in these remote areas of the wild West Highlands of Scotland. Strange things tend to happen in the Celtic lands, but the folk who live here get used to them after a while and pay them little heed. So Algy was not particularly nonplussed; he simply carried on with his breathing exercises while he watched what was going on around him with an attentive fascination. He recalled the exhortation of a poem he had read not long ago: "look closely: you will see and understand"…🙃
Happy October everyone! Algy hopes that his friends in the northern hemisphere will have a truly glorious golden month, while those in the south enjoy a beautiful spring 🧡
look closely and you'll find them everywhere in fields of patterned grasses drafted by the hare embroidered by the bluebells through a wood in scattered trails of blossom stamped into the mud scorched by heather-fire across the moors in looping snail-trails scrawled on forest floors scored across the sky by screaming swifts in rolling, twisting peaks of drifting mountain mist scribbled by an ocean on the sand look closely: you will see and understand.
[Algy is quoting the poem Messages by the contemporary English poet Matt Goodfellow. This poem was written specially for National Poetry Day in October 2016. This year's National Poetry Day falls in a couple of days' time, on 3rd October.]
[Plog the frog is a character from Algy's illustrated children's chapter books and features particularly in The Tree with a Golden Heart.]
