AU of Gotham! Tim Drake! Danny where he doesn’t know the universe he was reincarnated into.

“Robin!” Batman barked. Tim sighed, loudly. Batman twitched.

“What is it, B?”

“Drills. Again.”

Tim rolled his eyes but moved to obey. Speaking to B these days was like speaking to a rather boorish caveman. Simple grunts and single word sentences. It didn't use to be like this but B was loosing his grip on his humanity and it’s Tim’s job to bring it back.

It’s hilarious because he’s the least human of them all. It was odd, juggling his duties as Danny Gotham, his responsibilities as Tim, and his workload as Bruce’s shiny new Robin. Somehow he made it work.

Yeah, sometimes B’s hands are heavy when they’re training. Sometimes he forgets Danny’s name (or at least his human name) and calls for Jason instead. Sometimes, he smells more like booze and less like Bruce.

Danny could handle it. Even if his core quivers with grief. He wished he didn’t have to, but he could and will handle whatever he needs to for his Knight to regain himself. But fuck, that doesn’t mean taking his self destructive habits lying down. He might be Tim right now, but as far as Batman knew, Tim was here on the orders of

“B.”

“Hm.”

Oh, a neutral grunt! I see we’ve upgraded to grunts instead of arm flapping! Holy detective, Batman! Aren’t I glad I learned to speak cave man? Wow! Tim mocked, in his head.

“You’re heading to bed when I’m done with this set,” Tim said.

“This case isn’t done,” Batman growled. Ancients, it was like speaking to a large chihuahua-toddler hybrid. All the barking, all the growling, and all the petulance of a child makes the entirety of how his Knight acted on a good day these days.

“That wasn’t a suggestion,” Tim shot back, sore arms and legs and everything working through the set. Thank the ancients for his healing, or else Tim might actually be dying.

“You don’t give me orders, Robin.”

“No, but Gotham does.” He would know, considering Tim was Gotham.

The head full of greasy- ew, take a shower, B!- hair swiveled towards him.

“You have a direct line to Gotham?”

Tim settled into the final forms of the night. “Gotham sent me. I thought we went over this.”

A beat of silence.

Batman returned to clacking away at the computer. Tim finished his set in relative peace. He moved to the cool down stretches while Batman sulked in front of his computer like a five year old.

“I’m done.” He said, crossing his arms.

“Hm.”

“That means you’re done, too.”

“I’m not tired.”

Tim rolled his eyes so hard, he thinks he saw the light. Oh, wait, that’s just Bruce’s last brain cell dying.

“You’re heading to bed. Good luck finding actual crime tomorrow, if you stay up.”

Batman stilled, because he knows Gotham would back Tim up on the threat. Considering the time sensitivity of some of these cases, Gotham’s anger is not something he could risk.

Tim patted himself on the back for effectively playing the good cop and the bad cop on his own. Except ACAB for life because they’re vigilantes and the GCPD as a whole (with exceptions) sucks ass.

He watched as Batman- as Bruce- reluctantly powered down the Bat-Computer. As he stood up, Tim wrinkled his nose.

“Never mind. You take a shower first. I’ll text Alfred.”

“Not necessary.”

“Okay, then you can explain to Gotham why you’re traipsing through his city looking a starved rat and smelling like you took a joy ride in Killer Croc’s excrement. Oh, wait.” Tim snapped, just about done being patient today. Tim whipped out his phone, texting Alfred with one hand and pointing towards the staircase with the other.

“Shower above ground, you weird little mole rat. No cave water for you.”

Bruce makes a weird offended grunt.

“I literally don’t care if you have to walk up to your room to shower in your boxers, B. Most of Gotham’s people don’t have access to a shower, let alone a million dollar bathroom. Fucking use your actual bathroom instead of hosing off.”

And with that, Batman and Bruce Wayne moved to the tune of a pre-teen, who was also, unknowingly to him, the spirit of his City.

Tim smiled sweetly. Bruce paled. The scary, Gotham loved child patted Bruce’s hand as he sat beside Bruce’s bed.

“Sleep, before I make you.”

Bruce slammed his eyelids shut, anything to not look at Tim’s malicious looking eyes, and allowed himself- nay, forced himself- to rest for the first time in weeks since Jason died.

As Bruce’s dumb self drifted off to dreamland, Tim muttered, “Wuss.”

He settled himself into the chair, napping lightly to make sure Bruce doesn’t sneak out to work when he’s gone.

Pacifica's always been a perfectionist in everything she does. Whatever she does, she HAS to be the best and has to do it perfectly. As a young kid just learning to play mini-golf, her parents had drilled that in to her head "You are a Northwest. You MUST be perfect. Anything less is an embarrassment to you and, more importantly, our family name!". It's no surprise then that Pacifica has set unreasonably high standards for herself in everything...even Baseball.

Pacifica knows that her parents would never approve of her playing a "filthy commoner sport" but ever since she's joined Dipper, Mabel, and Wendy, she's had the time of her life. However, Pacifica's frustrations get to her when she particularly struggles to perfect her skills. Just like every beginner, Pacifica struggles to perfect pitching, catching, and base-running. Her one Achilles Heel, however, is Batting. Hitting a baseball is NOTHING like teeing off at Mini-golf which sends a shock in her system. She struggles with it trying with all her will and determination to get it perfect but she simply can't. Pacifica tells herself that she is an absolute mess and thinks she is the worst without realizing she's actually a decent, if not, a good hitter. She loves baseball but can't help but feel her frustration at herself piling up over her (perceived) inability to hit a baseball properly.

Wendy, being the team's coach, sees Pacifica's frustration. No matter how good Pacifica tries to hide it, Wendy knows it. She's more than Pacifica's coach. In a special way, the two have become like sisters: Pacifica looking up to Wendy and leaning on her has her solid support and Wendy genuinely caring for Pacifica and feeling a sense of responsibility and affection for her knowing she's become Pacifica's rock in a way the Northwests have never been for her.

At one game, with Pacifica still feeling the weight of her struggle batting and her at-bat looming, Wendy comes over and encourages her. Pacifica couldn't help but spill her guts when Wendy about her frustrations. Wendy reminds her that baseball isn't about being the best, its about having the guts to step up to the plate and to face your fears head on and, more importantly, having fun with the people who love you the most. Though Pacifica smiles, Wendy still feels her apprehension. With abit of mischief she leans in and tell her that she just knows Pacifica's got this in the bag, no matter what.

Pacifica steps up to bat, feeling a rush of confidence and determination from Wendy's pep-talk. As the pitch comes in, she wheels in to it, powered by the sounds of her team's cheers, most especially Wendy's loud cheers from the dugout. With an loud clang, Pacifica sends the ball flying, not a home run as she'd hoped, but an incredible line drive that earns her a triple and lands her safely on 3rd base. Soon enough, Pacifica is hit in from 3rd and crosses home plate and sure enough, the first to meet her in the dugout is none other than Wendy, her big sis who never once doubted her.

Wendy meets Pacifica as she runs in and, before Pacifica could even say anything, Wendy playfully yanks down her helmet smugly telling Pacifica "Way to go, princess!" as Pacifica playfully acts annoyed trying to get Wendy to stop. Wendy doesn't buy it and continues to playfully mess with Pacifica, ruffling her sweaty hair under her batting helmet. Pacifica did it! She faced her fears with headstrong determination, but more importantly, she learned the power of letting others' faith in you power her through her struggle. More importantly, Pacifica learns that Baseball isn't about being the best, but simply, its about having fun and stepping up to the plate. She's still got a long way to go but these were the moments she lived for and she knew, no matter what, she'd have Wendy by her side to push her and support her. Wendy couldn't be prouder of her little sister and she knew, whatever challenges they may face, whether in Baseball or in life, they'd have each other to lean on no matter what

Day in the Life as a Student Athlete

This is another (realistic) day in the life as a student athlete. I try to get outside and do softball drills off of a tee everyday but today wasn’t the best day for hitting outside. With the weather being so harshly cold, I was concerned about the wellbeing of my bat since they crack easily in cold temperatures and I currently don’t have another $500 to spend on a brand new bat. Today, I just stayed home and worked on my schoolwork and went to work at 12:00 PM. I left work at 6:00PM and it’s about to be 7:00 PM. My only plans for the rest of the night are to do any missing school assignments for the day and to finally get the chance to get some sleep. I’m hoping that tomorrow will be a better day to be outside so I can continue to get better at the game of softball. Who knows? Maybe the weather will finally cooperate tomorrow.

Was it possible for a momotarou and an oni to love each other? To overcome the deep hatred countless battles and the everlasting war had caused, to break the chains of that same hatred that had started with their ancestors and had taken root ever since then?

A typical and most rational answer to these questions would be no.

No, momotarou’s and oni’s could never love each other. With the way the two races were going at each other’s throats all the time, one could even bet that they could not even learn to love each other, even if they wanted to.

How could love grow in the first place, when two individuals were on the different side of a coin?

Whether you were an oni or a momotarou, similar beliefs would be drilled into the younglings: don’t hesitate to attack your enemy, don’t show mercy to your opponent if you don’t want to be fresh meat, kill the enemy that was in front of you, or you will be the one to get butchered instead.

In a world where it was kill or be killed, how could love prevail between two different races?

That typical ideology was what Naito had learned in the earlier days as well: show no mercy to your enemies, for your enemies weren’t going to have an ounce of mercy for you either. This principle was the norm in both momotarou and oni training, and since his early practice in the academy and his early recruitment, Naito followed it to a tee.

So, he did what he had to do to survive, to prevent the extinction of the oni: he killed.

He had become a devil for his enemies, but a beacon of hope for his people.

That was Naito to his people: reliable, diligent, efficient; vicious, cruel, a menace he could be to his enemies. And he was fine with it. If it meant he could contribute in any way, he would gladly become a devil that needed to be feared.

Ever since his early missions in the combat unit, Naito had been someone who was considered undefeatable. Just the mention of his name brought shivers down his opponent, caused fear to manifest in the unfortunate momotarou that had the misfortune of facing him.

Victory should have been his; it was within his hands. What could mere creatures infested with bacteria do to him?

Maybe, he had been overestimating himself. Maybe, it had been time for someone of his caliber to drag his ass down from the cloud it had been perched on, for as much as Naito had been powerful enough to deal with even hundreds of momotarou, he couldn’t beat that young momotarou who had arrived as backup, waltzing into the scene as if she was walking into a fashion show.

Naito had been unmatched for a long time…

…until he finally met his fated match.

He hadn’t anticipated someone like her in the field, as the momotarou hadn’t been anticipating someone like him in the field, either.

Having newbies in the field wasn’t anything that should have been surprising, though. After all, he had been there, too. But it still had surprised him, seeing a newbie climbing the imaginary ladder, already having been promoted to be a deputy commander. How impressive, indeed.

That should have been the first telltale sign for him to not underestimate her. He could only shake his head now whenever he thought back on it. He had been overestimating himself and severely underestimating her, which had been an amateur mistake, one he had reflected on severely.

He had been one step away from finishing his victim off without batting an eye, when the momotarou had been snatched from underneath his feet by a thin trace of black string that was made of bacteria, practically flinging the person far away from Naito.

“So, you are the one that had the higher ups acting up,” were her first words, flouncing towards him as if they weren’t in a battlefield but in an exhibition, and she was a piece of art that had to be admired. She might as well have been a piece of carefully and thoroughly made craft, the typical suit and pants for the momotarou was stunning on her; she would had been mistaken as a model… if it had been a fashion show.

“…and I don’t know who you are, unfortunately, but that doesn’t matter to me, for your demise is near.”

Younger Naito had been so full of himself, now that he thought about it. He had smiled jauntily at the way her pink lips had curled up, finding slight amusement at the clear aggression and cockiness she was showing. Aggression, an emotion that could make oni, momotarou or human temper flare, making them act more irrational than they were used to; Cockiness, a behavior that could led to someone’s downfall relatively quick. He would play her like a doll that she was.

Naito might had severely underestimated her during that fight, but looking back at it, he could console himself at not being the only one who had done that grave mistake.

“As if you could kill me that easily, don’t confuse me with the usual momotarou! If you don’t want to die, I advise you to take this fight seriously,” she had said, her voice silky smooth, as if they weren’t about to fight each other. “Now, shall we dance?”

And dance they did, a dance of life and death, that is. He had gone all out with his attacks, aggravation leaked into his movements; the usual calculated and calm strikes replaced by impatient, nonstop onslaught. Though, no matter how fast he struck, with that damn ability of hers, he was reduced to nothing but a gawping speculator, unable to do anything but watch as she dodged and moved in pure elegance, as if she really was ballroom dancer, performing tango with her partner.

Naito would never admit it to anyone else, but she had managed to impress him with that one encounter.

Not only had she been able to keep up with him, dodge his attack in wonderfully strange ways, she fought back as well, manipulating her summoned weapons and using her underlings in the most effective way with the help of her strings. With a mischievous glint in her eye and a never faltering smirk on her lips, she had pressed on, eventually resulting in their dance to end in a tie.

Often times, he thought back to the lady that had been fighting him that day and wondered, will I see her ever again? Not because he wanted to see her, but because she could become a rather bothersome pest for the oni’s. His job as a combat unit member was to eliminate the momotarou that stood in the way of the oni’s goals, therefore it was his duty to remove every obstacle that tampered with their goals.

What an exciting night it had been for the young adult. Someone could actually keep up with him. It had stirred something within him, she had managed to move something deep within him. A flicker of fire she was, a motivational factor that fired Naito on; the conclusion of their fight had been a clear sign that pointed out the fact that he needed to be better; he had to practice more, become stronger, for if she could keep up with him, that meant that she would improve in her techniques as well, to follow through with the momotarou’s plans.

How tragic. The more he thought about it, the surer he was that they could have gotten along particularly well, if only they had been on the same team.

Too bad she wasn’t an oni.

How sad it was: they were each other’s obstacles that needed to be finished off.

A/N: This is purely self service. Idk if anyone will even care to read this. BUT my period had been brutalizing me for days and I just wanted to write a quick little fluffy bit to make myself feel better. Maybe you need it too! 

It’s funny how easy it is to forget the little things over the years. Like how you loved the cherry blossoms in Brooklyn. Or how costume storage often smelled like mothballs and vodka. Or how much being on your period absolutely sucked. 

When you had your first full medical exam in Wakanda and they asked when your last cycle had been you honestly couldn’t say. It wasn’t something you spared much thought to. Until then you hadn’t even thought much about birth control or any other form of contraception. For a moment you’d felt a little surge of panic. 

Turned out you were worried over nothing, at least as far as getting knocked up went. 

You almost laughed when they found that Hydra had sterilized you. For years you’d fought to get your tubes tied or any other kind of permanent birth control - the last thing you needed or wanted was to bring a kid into the world - only to be constantly denied due to your age. For once, Hydra had done something you’d actually appreciated. 

Your lack of a menstrual cycle could be pretty easily chalked up to them likely controlling it with hormones when they had you and the time after to constant stress. No big deal. 

Except, being in Wakanda had taken away a massive load of that stress. No longer were you afraid to be found daily, living a false life, always ready for the next fight. Now, you were rebuilding your life, both of you were. It was almost a dream. 

Until your uterus made you dream of being stressed enough to shut her up again. 

Your first period had been pretty light, nothing to really complain about. This one though… Maybe Hydra had actually replaced your uterus with a tiny angry monster that was going to claw its way from your body Alien style. 

Around 3 a.m. you wake, your entire lower body screaming literal bloody murder. 

Slithering from the bed you’ve only one thought on your mind - hot, steaming, scalding water. Quickly you rid yourself of your wrecked underwear and turn on the shower. Leaning your head against the tile wall you let the water pound against your throbbing back, silently praying your body will stop this mutiny so you can get some sleep. 

 Tomorrow was a full day with classes and drills with the Dora Milaje, none of which you wanted to miss. There wasn’t time for this bullshit. 

Sighing you open your eyes, turning to face the water and catch a figure outside the steam covered shower glass. Logically, you know it’s Bucky but your tired foggy brain still sends a startled gasp tumbling out of your mouth. Some warrior you were. 

“Holy shit, Buck!” You exclaim, opening the door enough to see him. 

“Sorry!” He holds his hand up, face looking a little pale. “There was blood and - I just, I didn’t think.” 

Guilt and just the slightest bit of embarrassment flood you. In the grip of the pain, you hadn’t even thought to check the bed. Of course, his mind would go to the darkest option first upon seeing blood. 

“No, it’s ok.” You move to turn off the water, “I’ll deal with it. Sorry.” His hand stops yours. When you look back that kind smile is on his lips, it always sucked your breath right from your chest. 

“There’s nothing for you to deal with. Take your time.” He must read the defiance in your expression. “If you’re not in this shower for at least 10 more minutes I’m dragging you back into it myself.” 

“That sounds like a challenge,” you quip before a stab of pain makes you groan. He kisses your knuckles and leaves you to the steamy room. 

When you finally turn off the water, a little pruney but feeling a bit better you find one of Bucky’s shirts and a fresh pair of underwear on the counter. This man. Toweling your hair you step out to thank him only to see him remaking the bed with fresh sheets. 

“Babe,” you protest, “you didn’t have to-”

“Hush.” He gestures to a steaming mug on your bedside table. “It’s the tea Okoye gave me, the relaxing one.” Before you can say anything he reads your mind, “I know you hate tea but drink it anyway.”

“Just hot leaf juice,” you grumble with a smile on your face as you lift the mug to your nose to smell the contents. Earthy and slightly floral. 

“Coffee is technically hot bean juice,” he says, putting a pillow back in its case. 

“Blasphemy! I demand a divorce.”

He rolls his eyes, “Maybe when the sun’s out. Get in bed.”

“But my hot leaf juice,” you say in a false whine. He settles his back against the padded headboard, arm held out. 

“You can bring your leaf juice, just come here.” 

With a sigh, you crawl into bed. Bucky holds you tight, your back to his chest. You sip your tea, begrudgingly admitting that it wasn’t the worst and seemed to be coaxing your tense muscles into submission. 

“Thank you for changing the sheets,” you say, voice groggy. 

“Of course, doll. Anything else I can do?” You shake your head, tucked under his chin. “Here,” he plucks the half-empty mug from your hands, setting it on his nightstand. 

He scootches you both down into the warm fresh bed. Your head rests on his chest and unerringly your right-hand finds it’s way over to the steady beat of his heart, the feeling of its rhythm under your palm always soothing. 

Before you drift off you hear him whisper, “Sleep well, sweetheart.”
