I know this is horrible, but the Barbie Nutcracker is actually really good and most of the music is still intact. I love that ballet and I get board during the second act. The Home Alone movies have a soft spot in my family too. It's got to be a generational thing. :D Now, back to Santa questions. What is your favorite book? Any authors you adore? Any scents that take you back to your favorite times/places? Any places you'd love to go? I know, it seems random now. Trust me. I have a plan. :) -S
I am so curious now Santa with all these questions! My favorite book is Villette by Charlotte Bronte. Charlotte Bronte is also one of the authors I adore. True story, I cried almost the whole time I was at an exhibit of about her at The Morgan Library in NYC. I turned the corner to enter the gallery and front and center was one of her dresses. I started crying instantly. And then on the other side of that wall was the famous Bronte family portrait and again I started crying. It was just so overwhelming to be surrounded by all the personal items and writings of your favorite author. I also love Louisa May Alcott, Thomas Harris (I know he comes out of left field).
Scents that take me back to my favorite times/places is diffiuclt. I have two scents Calgon’s Morning Glory body spray and Bath and Body Work’s Juniper Breeze Body Spray that on whiff and I’m instantly taken back to 8th grade: 1997-98. It’s not exactly a favorite time or place memory but that was an intense year of my life. I actually have a bottle of both around, I picked up when I found them because I used the smells for when I was writing my novel I’m currently editing (there’s chucks of it that I used my middle school memories for as inspiration). Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle Perfume reminds me of college because it was the only perfume my best friend wore at the time. So whenever I smell it, I associate it with her being around so when I smell it I’m like “Where’s Adella?” I associate Miss Dior with just feeling content and home. It took me forever to find a signature scent for myself and it’s Miss Dior. I own several other perfumes but whenever I smell Miss Dior or put it on, it’s a homecoming. If things aren’t feeling right, if I fee like I’m having an off day, I can put Miss Dior on and I feel like myself again.
You asked about places I’d like to before and I discussed countries generically. So I guess I’ll tell you about my next trip I’m planning. Because I’m always planning my next trip. I’m planning my 3rd trip to NYC mostly because I obviously need to see POTO on Broadway. But there’s all the other stuff I want to do: visit the Merchant House Museum, The Tenement Museum, Greenwood Cemetery, always go to the MET again.
I hope these rambling answers help you Santa! I can’t wait now!

Makeup and Beauty Blog Monday Poll, Vol. 461
So…what is the Monday Poll?
Well, it isn’t exactly a poll. It’s more of a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past NINE (!) years. (It’s like a kickstart for your brain.) I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
1. Have you ever been drunk at work?
Yeah. But, um…it’s been over 20 years. And it only happened twice.
Well, one of those times I actually went into work hung over.
Oh, and I had cold, spicy Chinese food for breakfast that day. Bad idea.
2. Have you ever been to a Renaissance fair?
I went with a few kids from my history class when I was 14, and here’s what I remember: I remember Cindy buying a black crystal necklace, which was very Cindy at the time because she was going through a Stevie Nicks/witch phase.
I also remember — oh, gawd! — my teeth really hurting because I’d just gotten my braces tightened, but I desperately wanted to eat one of those huge Renaissance fair turkey legs, so I got one anyway, and it took me like five hours to eat it because my teeth were hurting so much.
3. If you were to write a note to a stranger on a bathroom mirror with lipstick, what would you write?
“F*ck yeah, girl, just do it!”
4. Are you quick on your feet? Like, do you think you could catch a chicken with your hands like in Rocky?
Yes! There are many things I can’t do, like I can’t lift super heavy weights, and I’m terrible at catching projectiles that are flying quickly through the air, but I’ve got quick feet and good balance.
So watch out, chickens!
5. Have you ever sprayed perfume on your feet?
Not perfume, but I have sprayed Bath & Body Works Body Spray on my feet… I believe it was Juniper Breeze.
Happy Monday
How’s it going, friend? I hope your Monday got off to a good start.
I ended up prepping a whole bunch of grilled veggies for the week last night instead of going all out with a Super Bowl spread, but that’s good, because now I have snacks for the week.
I’ve kinda got a lot on my mind today… El Hub started his new job, so he’ll be busy for a while, which just means that I might not see him very much while he gets acclimated.
Not a big deal… Just a transition.
How are things in your neck of the woods? If any challenges come your way, I’m sure you’ll handle them gracefully.
Have a wonderful day. Talk to you soon.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Here are the questions to copy and paste…
1. Have you ever been drunk at work? 2. Have you ever been to a Renaissance Fair? 3. If you were to write a note to a stranger on a bathroom mirror with lipstick, what would you write? 4. Are you quick on your feet? Like, do you think you could catch a chicken like in Rocky? 5. Have you ever sprayed perfume on your feet?

Aura Cleanse
“There are many aura cleansing techniques. Moving energy is really more about intention than about any particular method. However, here are some suggestions. Some of them are so simple and healthy, there's just no reason not to do them!
Light--imagined or real--is a classic aura cleanser. Lie or sit comfortably. Relax and breathe deeply and comfortably for a few minutes, allowing your body to relax and unwind.
Make your own aura cleansing spray out of spring water and a cleansing essential oil such as lime, lemon, or juniper. In a spray bottle, mix a few drops of essential oil in a cup or so of spring water. Shake it up and spray it toward yourself from arms length (avoiding your eyes, of course).
Crystals are great aura purifiers. Crystals traditionally used for this are smoky quartz, obsidian, selenite, or black tourmaline, but any crystal that you feel drawn to will do.
Here's an easy one. Drink a glass of water--filtered or spring water, if possible. Make sure you drink approximately 9-12 cups of pure water a day.
Another super-easy one. Take a warm bath in which one cup or more of salt--preferably sea salt--has been dissolved.
Spend five minutes breathing deeply into the lower third of your lungs, so that your belly rises with each inhale and falls with each exhale. As you inhale, feel the clean air restoring and refreshing and renewing your body and energy field. As you exhale, feel your body and field being cleared of unwanted and negative energy, and anything that doesn't serve you anymore. Out with the old, in with the new!
Wear a favorite color--one that makes you feel great. It may relate to a color that you need more of in your aura, or an aura color that needs to be clarified. (Read more about aura color meanings here.)
Get out into nature. Sunlight is a natural energy purifier. A walk in a forest or desert is naturally calming and cleansing to your energy field. The beach, with its salt breezes, is especially good--but standing in any wind, or bathing in any natural body of water, has a cleansing effect.
Smudge yourself with a sage stick. To do this, it's easiest just to purchase a smudge stick at a natural health foods or "new age" store--although if you have a large sage plant, you can make your own by gathering and drying sage leaves, them bundling them together and tying them tightly with a natural-fiber cord.
Imagine your body completely filled with white light. Visualize the white light purifying and restoring your body, and displacing any negative or foreign energy. Give yourself time to enjoy this feeling.
Expand the light beyond your body, as many times as necessary until it extends a foot or two beyond your body--or where-ever feels intuitively right. Visualize or feel it purifying and restoring your field, and displacing any negative or foreign energy, pushing it out into the universe, where it will be neutralized and reabsorbed into the cosmic field. Give yourself time to enjoy this feeling.
You can just carry one with you or wear it around your neck, or keep one at an altar or at the head of your bed.
If you're feeling the need for something more powerful, lie down and place the crystal on your brow, between your eyebrows and a little above. Relax, breathing deeply and comfortably, and imagine a white, purifying light emerging from the crystal and surrounding your body in white light.
Or, sweep the crystal repeatedly through your energy field, head to toe, with the intention that it will absorb any negative or foreign energies.
Always clean your crystals afterward by soaking them in salt water (preferably sea salt).
If you can't get out of the city, find a place that allows you access to sun and fresh air, such as a park or a roof-top. Breathe nature in, feel it moving through your field, and let it calm and refresh you.
In a fire-safe place, light the end of it and blow out any flame so that there are just a few embers burning and creating a small amount of smoke. Wave the smudge stick around your body from head to toe, allowing the sage smoke to purify your field.
It's common for burning bits of sage to fall to the ground, so be sure you do this in a safe place.
Sage is traditional, but other aromatic plants can work as well. I have lots of rosemary in my yard and feel a particular affinity to it, so I usually use that.
How do you know if your efforts have worked? You'll feel better--more relaxed, peaceful, clearer-headed, hopeful.
However, if your own efforts don't seem to be working for you, then you may want to contact an experienced, reputable energy healer or aura healing practitioner. Sometimes we all need a little outside help”
