[ THE DAMSEL’S HAREM ]
Ivo the Tempest | Captain of the Wailing Damsel | 31 | Roman Reigns
His grey stormy eyes and lightning quickness has earned him the name that people would come to know along with the reputation of that the Wailing Damsel earned through the high seas. But for Zahir, being one of his first friends; one who he grew up in the streets in and eventually through being the measly grunt crew of the ships that managed to hire them and until the blooming talent that they both possess as seafarers, he is probably the one that Zahir trusts the most. He’s notably stoic and sarcastic, and he’s fiercely loyal to Zahir that he’s willing to take a fall for him. It was a stroke of cruel luck, really; it was that very reason that it spared him from being marooned along with Zahir as he let himself be captured in Zahir’s stead—which in turn, turned to be the reason why finding him and saving him was Zahir’s first mission the moment he got off the island.
And with Zahir being the current Lord Avarre and Lord High Admiral, he became the de facto captain of their pirate vessel. The Court of Avarre knows him as Zahir’s bodyguard. He possesses a pair of karambits.
Gambern ‘Old Gamble’ Palebryne | First Mate of the Wailing Damsel | 50 | Max Martini
Drunkard. Criminal. Brawler. Actual Gambler. But how time as weathered him down and roughed him up, Old Gamble isn’t down for the count—in fact, Zahir owes to him most of what he knew. He comes and goes—and that’s when he’s sober. But where the men of Qaz’rmara taught Zahir the fine arts of the duel, Old Gamble taught him how to fight like a vagrant and brawl like a beast. And ultimately, he was the one who taught him the ropes of the ship and then piracy itself. In a weird way, despite them falling out before Zahir was marooned, he is actually the closest thing he knew for a father—he was even the one who argued against Zahir’s crew to let him keep Zarandhal.
Ivo actually respects him too—and if it was up to them, Old Gamble could’ve been an easy choice for a captain. But he was the one who refused… though his position as a grey eminence in their lives had turned him into the de facto first mate of the Wailing Damsel. In Avarre, he oversees one of Zahir’s bigger establishments—by drinking himself full and beating up delinquent guests.
He seems to tend to make fun of Eremaz Lamasca when he gets the chance... but also for some reason he tends to avoid alcohol when around him. And he suspiciously knows too much about fantastical beasts.
Yain Owlfoot | Member of the Wailing Damsel | 22 | Choi Siwon
For five years he had been the eyes of the Wailing Damsel as the man that holds the crow’s nest. But for Zahir and the crew, he’s been like their youngest brother. And while port wenches know him for his easy smile, he lends his talents in his keen eyes and his sprint. In the simplest sense, in land, he is basically Zahir’s messenger—so much that he is one of the few who knows how to whistle and communicate with Zarandhal. And for now, he is currently employed in the court of Avarre as aide to the Lord Lamasca. But as it seems, Zahir is his aide when it comes to studying how to strum and pluck a lyre.
Eremaz ‘Erring Gale’ Lamasca | First Mate of the Sirenetta | 50 | Kenan Imirzalioglu
Amongst the nobles of Avarre, and probably Casther itself, Talwaz Lamasca’s cousin is probably the one that knows of Zahir’s past after his exile. Maybe because aside from the fact that he was Zahir’s first tutors, the both of them found common ground on being the runt of the litter as Eremaz himself was cast out of the House and found a living as a whaler in the far reaches of Bergian seas—in a way, Eremaz Lamasca was Zelihm Lamasca before Zahir followed the same path albeit without crimes… or at least not the more obvious ones. He returned home during the war to bolster the power of the Lamascan Navy but he had other motivations as well; most of all to solidify the Lyre. And it was in Zahir’s tenacity that he found someone else to trust it with. Needless to say, Eremaz is one of the Lord Avarre’s most stalwart supporters.
Amongst Zahir’s inner circle, he is the one who is more present in court given the fact that he is a Lamascan lord; both being the first mate of the flagship Sirenetta and a bannerman of the vassalhood of Morrow’s End. Eremaz is also an expert swordsman and bowman like Zahir. He wields a crossbow called The Gale, hence his moniker. He also has a black cat named Badluck which kills rodents in the ship.
Lately, Zahir finds it interesting that his Uncle Eremaz is spending a bit more time with Old Gamble than the usual.
