Could I request headcanons for Astarion reacting to his gn s/o telling him how they're both conflicted when he admitted he used them that they're genuinely hurt but they're saddened for how much he had suffered to be the way he is but they still love him please?

When they tell him that they are hurt, Astarion understands.

At this point in his long life, he hasn’t put much thought into how much it must hurt the people he’s tricked into falling for him to be swindled in such a way.

To have your trust and your heart, such as it is, broken. But he does know betrayal.

Astarion has been betrayed everyday of his life. So he knows what they are feeling but never took the time to think about this pain from another perspective.

With them, he does feel this pain. Guilty, even. Which is a new feeling for him. As well as the desire to be honest, which was why he told them in the first place. Doesn’t he get partial credit for that?

What he doesn’t expect is for them to forgive him.

Forgiveness is also something Astarion hasn’t experienced in his life. Cazador never forgave any of them for a slight. You can’t get forgiveness from the dead.

He isn’t sure how he feels about it but does feel a little…cheated to be let off the hook so easy.

They should be angry with him. Angrier even. Yet they are just forgiving him.

More than that, they feel sorry for him. Not sorry as in pity, which is his greatest fear in what they will feel for him, but genuine remorse.

It’s a lot for Astarion to process but what he is sure of is that he was right in choosing them, in the end. Even if his motives were nefarious at first. He’s put his trust in the right person for a change, and he feels confident in that.
