So when I first read The Ellimist Chronicles as a kid, my big takeaway was that it was a) really weird and b) undermined the whole idea of Q-style vaguely benevolent moderately omnipotent dickhead with obnoxiously inscrutable motives. It wasn't for a while that I realized just how much b) was not only on purpose but was deeply connected to the themes of the series.

Because from the start, the whole premise is that these kids aren't supposed to be the ones dealing with this. They have no fucking idea what they're doing, they're just some random teenagers who got caught up in it by bad luck because they pratfalled into the wrong place at the wrong time and wound up with the knowledge of the situation and the power to do something about it dumped on them, so now it's up to them even if they aren't up to it. They can't get help from the grown-ups and the warrior-prince space alien who would know what to do and would have had the answers is dead, they just have to make it up as they go and do the best they can.

And then a year and a half after the first book, we get The Andalite Chronicles, which is the perspective of the warrior-prince space alien who was supposed to be handling this and, it turns out, he has no fucking idea what he's doing. He'd just been a random cadet with big dreams until he got pratfalled into some all-powerful ancient artifact nonsense and this vaguely benevolent moderately omnipotent and dickhead whose obnoxiously inscrutably motivated schemes made this random cadet a hero and leader of his people, so now it's up to him even if he's not up to it, until he would go on to spend his last moments dumping the knowledge of the situation and the power to do something about it on some random kids he ran into, because what could he do, except make it up as he went and do the best he can.

And then we finally get the curtain peeled back on the obnoxiously inscrutable motives of the vaguely benevolent moderately omnipotent dickhead who's been subtly meddling with our protagonists since the series began, and it turns out the grand revelation is: he has no fucking idea what he's doing. He's Some Fucking Gamer whose bizarre series of near-death experiences and one-sided grudges lead to him pratfalling into the nearly infinite knowledge and power to try and achieve the best of all possible ends for all people who ever will be, so now it's up to him even if he's not up to it. Every time he uses some of his infinite power is an exercise in maximum effect with minimal involvement, and every loss, and even every win, comes with an almost incalculable human* cost, except that he can calculate it exactly, but the only alternative is to take no plays at all.** All he can do is make it up as he goes and do the best he can.

There are no grown-ups. Nobody has all the answers. The only thing to do is try to figure it out and do the best you can.

*you know what I mean **An important change in framing that Andalite Chronicles is delivered in Elfangor's last moments as a final statement, while Ellimist is delivered in the last moments of a character we've followed the whole series, although we haven't learned who it is yet. They want the closest thing they know of to a god to tell them if they mattered, while the Ellimist is asking one of his acceptable losses if they can forgive him.

For as much as I love Animorphs, I’ve never actually read it in order all the way through. It was always scattered entries, whatever I could find at the library or buy at garage sales. There’s even a small handful I haven’t read at all. That’s why, for my New Year’s resolution, I plan to reread the series in its entirety. However, I know how my brain works, and I’m afraid I might lose motivation and quit too soon. That’s why, after each book, I will add to this post with, in my opinion, the most fucked-up part of the book, as well as the silliest part (because anyone who’s read these books knows that those are the two main tenets of the series). That way, I’ll have a publicly available record to hold myself accountable to if I start slacking, plus a nice thread of propaganda to hopefully suck more people in. I plan to read one mainline book a week, starting with:

I just realized it's been nearly a month and I haven't reported back to the western Soul Eater community the live experience of the Soul Eater Exhibit so here's what I got for you!

First of all, these are taking place at Animate stores and if somehow you think you can make travel plans within the next month or two, there is a third showing in Kyoto happening in January. When entering you are given a random shikishi board and if you paid extra you also get a sweatband (but I did not). I went with a friend who happened to live nearby who helped a lot with getting tickets but they were at the door available as well.

The entrance was a small area that featured the main promotional image and the Excalibur floral display replicating the one in the manga.

Beyond the entrance there was no video allowed and at certain points no photos allowed. Mostly at the end where there were a bunch of Shikishi boards with signatures from staff and voice actors.

What I didn't realize from pictures is that the manga pages shared are the original pages showing all the techniques and mistakes on page. I wish I could share them all but Tumblr is not the place for that. The one I did want to share is a page where presumably Ohkubo and an assistant played tiktaktoe and made and aiaikasa for Renton and Eureka from Eureka7 which was also being released in Shonen GanGan at the same time.

Not all pages of the series were shared and it was more favored to the first half of the series with different section to highlignt characters and story beats. The first main area was after the first curtain (photo above) had Maka's scythe and a copy of each volume hung up on a side wall. You then go through a set of curtains with souls on it into a large space that had the main pairs and additional charactera from the volume art blown up with the corresponding introduction chapters. This is the space with the replica of Shinigami-sama's room. This led into a hall featuring Crona and had a decal of Crona and Maka's shadows holding hands on the ground. Then there was the Excalibur Wall. My memory after that is a little fuzzy because I was distracted/self conscious(Was very amused by another pair as the clear fan explained the series to her friend); if I remember right there was a second hall showing the brew arc then Black Star's final Mifune fight and then a corner space representing the Arcane fight with a blown up decal of Maka in her black blood dress. The space didn't feel like people should walk in it, there was a thin foam on the floor and words from the panel dangling down so you couldn't really see much of the art. Early spartoi passes by really fast in favor of a wider hall with the killing of Medusa; pages on the right with corresponding blown up art on the left. At the end was a giant wall featuring the moon. Then it the pages of the final fight and the display ends with curtains showing Maka and Soul diving into Asura's black blood to find Crona.

The major bit at the end is there is a fully voice acted section of the final chapters of Soul Eater with the manga pages manipulated to it. The motion graphics weren't crazy amazing, about what you'd expect out of a storybook style pv. You were not allowed to take photos or video of this section. So a whole voice recording of what the finale of the manga could sound like could become lost media unless it's released somehow. There's a small final room showing the pages of the final chapters art. A large acrylic display of the meisters in their final character evolution that's backlit. A final space shows off the colored art, the originals if the were done traditionally. There's a small selection of new art, really long piece. Ones that has the og cast and the not girls which probably was during the not era but I don't remember ever seeing it. And then a spread of Spartoi plus Not. Liz and Tsugumi have the best fits in it but I feel a lot of people will like Crona's shirt best. Ohkubo signed a print with a sketch of Maka at the end alongside the two pieces that he love drew on the opening days. In the same space is where the signature shikishi boards were. I was extremely sad that I couldn't take a pic because one had some sort of Maka that was gorgeous but we speculated that it was to avoid signature fraud.

After that you took the stairs down to an extremely tight store. I realized too late that there were no photo signs however it feels like I'm missing some pictures I had taken from my gallery.

This is where I'm gonna be hella real, I do not fucks with Ohkubo's Soul Eater art in recent years. I saw a guy on Tiktok standing by it was his Twitter sketch style but that doesn't work for me with official products. From the perfect edition cover art, to the exhibition special art, to the two??? new pieces for the encore art book; it all feels extremely sloppy in terms of linework, posing, and proportions. If someone were to tell me it's a result of burnout, I would respect that easily but none the less I did not buy anything with the exhibit art on it (sans the pamphlet) more grab the art book. The art book is probably not worth it either unless you weren't able to grab the previous ones. I probably will eventually get it when the English one comes out next year and I probably would've saved money if I bought it while I was there but the weight wasn't worth it and I had in fact spent ¥42,000.

For all the things I did buy, I do regret not picking up some items; an art board from the other artbooks, the sticker set A, the mini towel, and one additional set of the cookies and coffee but as seen above I grabbed a lot and felt pretty aware I had a full basket compared to everyone else. You could also only make one purchase per a ticket and sadly only one commemorative bag per a purchase (I still ended up with two due to my friend). The final thing that you may want to know is the quality of said good; the plushies are worth it simply for existing but could've been higher quality, the ¥7000 (roughly $50) hoodie I bought was extremely thin and has shed so much from the inside that I have yet to wash it in fear it would disintegrate (I'm being slightly dramatic but I truly fear what will happen when I do), and while I did not buy them I did see the in person versions of the made to order items; the skate deck was a proper translation but didn't look particularly nice considering the simplicity of the design and the Soul Jacket was worse than cosplay quality made out of a really thin poly that didn't hold it's shape. ¥18700 yen is about $120 USD right now which is already way too much for the quality but keep in mind the buying power is equivalent to roughly $190. If you want Soul's OG jacket then I would best recommend customizing a real varsity jacket, followed by finding a used one of the original great eastern release, followed by what ever streetwear brand version of your choosing because while they might have inaccuracies, they will at least have ribbed trimming. I know I'm ragging on this pretty hard but I want to emphasize that it is an item you are not missing out on in case you feel the need to proxy order one. The most worthwhile items will be the plushies and food goods, and from there O would call the general Osaka added goods nice. Initially I was not impressed with the acrylic blocks but in person they had nice dimension. Any printed good outside of that is your own discretion albeit I don't think they're particularly going to be high value items in the future.

The final final part is I found out the day before there was a wrapped train for the show. Honestly a higher honor than I expected for the series. However the night before was spent at an Onsen a good distance away and the day of was a downpour so I sadly did not witness it as it would of likely been an effort to find.

I think that's all I can give towards the experience in writing but I will include particular sights in subsequent reblogs.

WARNING: nothing too aggressive, just misunderstandings

The scorching heat of the Qatari desert could be felt even in the shadow of the luxurious paddock structures. Y/n Stroll, daughter of magnate Lawrence Stroll, walked with firm steps but was clearly upset, drawing the attention of onlookers. She was impossible to ignore: perfectly styled hair, carefully chosen designer clothes, and an air of someone who knew the world was at her feet. Doriane Pin, observing the scene from a distance, rolled her eyes.

"Look who’s throwing a tantrum again," Doriane murmured to a teammate, who chuckled in response.

Ever since Y/n had started accompanying her father on some Formula 1 trips, Doriane had always seen her as the walking stereotype of a “daddy’s girl.” Spoiled, constantly surrounded by privileges, and with the unique ability to turn every minor obstacle into a drama. It was irritating. For Doriane, who had fought hard to carve out her place in motorsport, it was almost an insult.

But that morning, a misunderstanding during a team meeting had left Y/n even angrier. It wasn’t clear whether it was a translation or communication issue, but Y/n interpreted it as questioning her ability to be there and stormed out of the paddock.

"Such a spoiled kid," Doriane muttered again, adjusting her jacket as she prepared for the city tour organized for team members.

The group gathered at the hotel entrance, ready to explore the local market and, of course, ride camels—an almost obligatory experience for tourists. To Doriane’s surprise, Y/n showed up to join the group, though her expression remained closed off.

“Oh, you’re here,” Doriane remarked, unable to hide the irony in her voice. “I thought the desert wouldn’t be worthy of you.”

Y/n shot her an icy glare. “And I thought I’d heard every cliché comment about being Lawrence Stroll’s daughter, but it seems you still have a few left.”

The quick retort caught Doriane off guard. She opened her mouth to respond but closed it again, deciding to focus on the walk to the market.

As the minutes passed, the group began to relax. The market was a vibrant maze of colors, sounds, and smells. Incense burned at every corner, and local vendors competed for attention with embroidered rugs, spices, and jewelry.

Doriane watched as Y/n crouched in front of a craft stall, examining handmade bracelets. For the first time, she seemed... genuine. The usual air of superiority was gone; she was just a curious young woman, enchanted by something simple.

“These are pretty,” Doriane commented, approaching without thinking.

Y/n looked up at her, surprised by the friendly tone, but gave a small smile. “They are, right? I think my mom would like them.”

Doriane tilted her head, intrigued. “You’re more thoughtful than I expected.”

Y/n chuckled softly, still browsing the bracelets. “And you’re quicker to judge than I expected.”

The tour continued, and Doriane found herself surprisingly comfortable in Y/n’s company. There was something about the girl’s sharp comments that made her laugh. At one point, when Y/n almost fell while climbing onto a camel, they both laughed so hard that tears streamed down their faces.

“Okay, okay, maybe you’re not as perfect as you seem,” Doriane joked, still recovering from the laughter.

“And maybe you’re less grumpy than you seem,” Y/n shot back with a sly smile.

The afternoon went on with lighthearted conversations, and Doriane began to realize that there was more to Y/n than met the eye. There was a vulnerability hidden beneath the façade of a spoiled girl. Perhaps Y/n wasn’t so different from her; perhaps she, too, carried the weight of others’ expectations.

Back at the hotel, as the sun set over the dunes, the two walked side by side. There were no more sarcastic remarks or provocations, just a comfortable silence.

“I always thought you hated me,” Y/n confessed suddenly, looking out at the horizon.

Doriane stopped, facing her. “I didn’t hate you. I just… thought you didn’t understand how much effort it takes to be here. That everything was easy for you.”

Y/n sighed, crossing her arms. “It might look that way, but… living in my dad’s shadow isn’t as easy as you think. Everyone always expects something from me. No matter what I do, it’s never enough.”

Doriane nodded slowly, understanding for the first time what Y/n meant.

The next morning, the paddock was as busy as ever. It was race day, and the tension hung in the air. Y/n and Doriane barely had time to exchange words as the teams prepared.

But moments before the start, while Doriane was making her final adjustments, Y/n appeared out of nowhere.

“Are you nervous?” Y/n asked, looking her in the eyes.

“No more than usual,” Doriane replied, trying to sound confident.

S/n hesitated, biting her lip. Then, without warning, she leaned in and kissed her. It was quick but full of meaning, as if she wanted to say everything words couldn’t.

Doriane froze for a second, but before she could say anything, Y/n gave a shy smile. “Good luck,” she said, turning and disappearing into the crowd.

Doriane raised a hand to her lips, still feeling the warmth of the kiss, and smiled. Maybe Y/n Stroll wasn’t anything like she had imagined. And, perhaps, that was exactly what fascinated her.

About Zayne's nightmares...

The most unrealistic thing about Zayne is that he's a functional working adult that seemingly has put his life together at 27 not because he's young or a prodigy but because he's said to have nightmares since he was 12?? Like... I feel like this theme might be a bit overlooked but just think about it deeply, having constant nightmares fucks your mind like really REALLY bad, I can genuinely say this by experience and also as someone who has had trouble to have a healthy sleeping schedule since I was at highschool (like, for example, right now, I should be sleeping instead of writing this...).

There was a time I would have nightmares almost everytime I went to sleep during a really hard time in my life. Of course, the topic about those nightmares was almost always the same, not like the nightmares repeated themselves but they always revolved about the same things that I was actually working in therapy at the moment. Back then I was jobless and medicated most part of the time, I was pretty dysfunctional.

I suppose that's why when I listened to "Fragmented Dreams" for the first time it was the time I said "Yeah, this is my man". I love how he's always nagging MC about sleeping early because I know by experience that not sleeping properly can mess up with your mind pretty bad, and probably he knows it too. It truly is a showcase of love how he worries about her sleep like that and it also showcases how strong minded he is for enduring too much stress and remind kind constantly.

I love how healthy he is. I like to think that he's overcome all the stressful stuff he's gone thru bc of his discipline and healthy life style, but realistically it would take him some more to deal with all of that.

Yes, all of the guys have been through some very rough stuff and they all need therapy, but my point with Zayne comes with the fact that not having a good sleeping schedule and on top of that having constant nightmares can mess up with your perception of reality and induce you a bad depression or other mental health issues. Everytime I remember Zayne's main story branch when they're trapped in Zayne's dream and MC leaves him alone and he starts listening to Willian, Georgie and his Mom so he has to remind himself "It's not real, it's not real" I deeply feel that and I just want to hug him so bad :(

I think I'd like to see a card where they explore the consecuences of their past in their psyche more deeply. I can't help remembering this post which was one of the first posts you unlock with Zayne:

It was there when I just knew that even if he looked quiet, he had a lot to say but didn't know how to express.

Another thing I'd like to highlight about this is that actually I love the emotional maturity that Zayne displays about dealing with such issues like nightmares, traumatic experiences and literally being exposed to see people dying 24/7 while being someone that feels a lot yet says little. He's dealt with this the best way he can, no wonder why he came to be quite serious and inexpressive or sarcastic. Not allowing himself to express other emotions than seriousness or sarcasm was like keeping himself in check so he wouldn't spill everything he feels and considering how stressing is his job already, it just makes sense, but that didn't mean Zayne didn't feel because he feels too much and too deeply and worries sick about ppl and especially about MC.

Of course, bottling up his emotions wasn't the best way to deal with them but he never used any unhealthy coping mechanism neither, like alcohol, for example (My teetotaler King ❤️) etc. Yeah, his workaholism isn't exactly healthy but not something toxic to his mind and relationships, and I've always had a feeling that he's a big foodie and addicted to sweets to give himself that boost of serotonine he needs so bad.

That's why he compares MC with sweets, being her his favorite dessert, bc she's brought all that serotonine to his life naturally and has helped him let go little by little. When he opened to her about losing Dulcie, I had a feeling that Zayne always wanted someone to listen to him but he didn't know how to ask for it and ppl around him was too afraid to even dare to suggest it. I think even in one of his anecdotes, it is said that sometimes Dr Noah wanted to tell him something but at the end ended up saying nothing.

The fact that Zayne bottled up his emotions didn't mean that he wouldn't willingly share them, he wanted to but wasn't used to it. With MC, he's slowy started to let it go and enjoy life more, allowing himself to be sad in front of her, to express his fears (about losing her) or to express his childish tantrums and indulge in his softest side. That's why also she's not only his favorite dessert but also his best painkiller ❤️

this winter, I sort of want to try actually making a temporary merch store; I'm not really good at this kind of thing (business management), I have been kind of dancing around it and avoiding thinking about it, but I do want to give it a try to see how I feel about it, at least for a bit. like order a small stock of some items, hopefully sell them until they're gone.
