Bruce wrapped his arms around River and moved to kiss her. It was a gentle bit of a shy gesture but he hoped it hadn’t been to forward. He smiled. “Thank you for coming.” Before he gestured to the table he had set up for them. “I um- Did you get the position if not you know I can pull the strings?” He reminded her as he moved to pull out the chair for her,

It wasn’t every day but she got to go out - in fact, River was always being told that she spent too much time in front of a computer screen and not enough time with a real, normal human being. And Bruce was normal. Or so she thought.

“Thanks for inviting me out,” she smiled in return, her hands going to smooth out her dress as she took a seat. River had taken the time to doll herself up - careful make up and a new dress that she’d bought from work. It was nice to take time out for girly things; things with absolutely nothing to do with computer codes, secure databases or cloud breaches. “Ah, I didn’t,” she responded, though chose to omit the crucial detail about not having attended the interview to begin with, “But that’s okay. I wasn’t too sure about the job anyway.”

It had only been  a few days. A few days since Alfred’s world went sideways. He had seen Bruce pulling away and had failed each time he tried to reach him. The last fight had ended up with him hurting Bruce. He hadn’t meant to and would have rathered someone beat him. It was to late and when Bruce came home he was still mad. So mad that he fired him, hearing those words crushed Alfred. He thought of Bruce as family but they weren’t he was  just the hired help. That was the last coherent thought he really had the next few days. He found a place and just spend the time drowning out his sorrows. This had been his life the last decade he wasn’t sure what he was supposed to do now. 

Today however he had gotten a call from Bruce. Knowing he couldn’t see him like this Alfred ordered a regular tea and just waited for the boy to show.

Mistaken

Wil stopped with a start. Just over across the way, along those warn down streets of Gotham, was what looked like his brother, Rene. A tangle of warred feelings swept through him; one being so utterly ecstatic to see him up and out of bed, two; fear that he had come looking for him, and wanted to take him back to the manor, which he couldn’t do - not yet.

The fear still wasn’t enough to stop the compulsion to go over there. Everything inside him just ... felt like it was inflating - a lost feeling.

Quickly, he crossed the way, getting closer to see, when his brother seemed to slip further away. “Larc?” he called out, using his brother’s nickname. Was it really him?
