The reader is mostly nonverbal - only speaking using short words/sentences - unless they're talking to someone they've grown to really trust, to animals (such as their crow companions), or about animals - which they have learned lots of trivia about. They may also stim - usually by rocking side to side when bored or flapping/clapping their hands when excited. They're happy to receive physical contact but can be overwhelmed by constant loud noise (such as shouting or music.)

😺 When Tanjiro first met you, he was slightly confused as to why you rarely spoke longer sentences. But, in his fashion, he put that behind and stayed positive around you

😺 Whenever he notices your stims getting worse or more erratic, he holds your hand and allows you to mess with his. He also likes seeing how you would help Nezuko with her hair, using the physical action as another way to use a stim

😺 He is amazing with animals himself, getting along with pretty much every creature he finds. So, when you walked around the Butterfly Mansion with small birds and one of your pets, a Japanese dwarf flying squirrel that you named Kiyoshi, he got along with the cute rodent quick and easily

😺 Whenever you are set to be on a mission with him and the others (Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko), he tries to keep them quieter so you don't get overwhelmed

😺 Sometimes, he enjoys staying awake at night and ask you about some animals that he has either seen around or was wondering about. Such as a Japanese Macaque or a Sika Deer

⚡ He had a hard time understanding you at first. But that was mainly because you rarely spoke and were extremely loving to almost every animal that you guys came across

⚡ I mean, you literally would attract any other Slayer's crow, which made Zenitsu roll his eyes stubbornly. How come you were such an animal magnet while his own crow (or rather sparrow) pecked at him whenever he tried holding him!

⚡ Anyways, he does like seeing how you handle demons, putting your own issues behind just to help out anybody in danger, whether they were children or adults or in between

⚡ Zenitsu may not show it fully, but he does like watching you play with your pet Koi fish when they were swimming around in your/Mitsuri's estate's back pond

⚡ No doubt simps even harder whenever you mess with his hands or wear his haori. He literally stands there with a goofy grin on his face as he giggles at your actions

🐗 Inosuke is a very rambunctious person by nature. And he is surprisingly good around animals, due to growing up alongside them all his childhood

🐗 So, when you came around and seemingly calmed down a boar in front of him, he yelled your name and asked how you knew what they were thinking, in which you laughed and tried explaining to the best of your ability

🐗 He also had great hearing and understanding of body language. So if you were to speak with a lower tone or not be able to finish a sentence, he understands what you want to say without asking you to repeat like others

🐗 Smiling at him also makes him feel good, so whenever you do so if you can't gain the urge to speak to him, his chest puffs out as he goes on a rant of 'of course you smile at the King of the Mountain' and whatnot

🐗 By far the second best with an Autistic reader when it comes to this trio, the way he grew up helps him understand you better than the others easily

Literally all the kids in demon slayer are neurodivergent, some of them are definitely autistic and have sensory issues connected to their weirdly enhanced senses, most notably zenitsu and inosuke, zenitsu usually getting pissed off when people are too loud and inosuke showing multiple times he's uncomfortable in crowds, among many other things I could point out ...

And tanjiro is the absolute king of masking (which is not a good thing) but clearly still has some Tendencies he just usually doesn't let himself experience the "negative" parts of it. He's like no I will not be doing that thank you :) (he will break someday I assure you.)

And I know nezuko's behavior is explained as being part of being turned into a demon, that for some reason she has a more childlike mental state than she did before, but that can also be and often is just a form of trauma response in anyone... Like demon or no, I think maybe seeing what she saw and going through all that could absolutely have just caused some age regression in general from PTSD, which as far as I remember is also a form of neurodivergency? I'm not sure if she was neurodivergent before that trauma tho, but tbh I think she shared a lot of similarities with tanjiro in that maybe she was just a real queen at masking her issues because she Had A Job To Do being basically the mini-mom to all her siblings especially since their dad died, just like tanjiro had to become the "man of the house" at only like 11 and was responsible for keeping his family like... Alive as a mini-dad. These poor fucking kids

Kanao and genya are too like ik kanao's behavior is explained in canon as being from her extremely abusive childhood but like, having trauma does not exclude you from also being autistic/ otherwise neurodivergent too, similarly to how I see nezuko too like ... She has PTSD which is it's own thing but I don't think she couldn't also be other things too

Genya I have less "evidence" for he just has the vibes idk. He has autism in his eyes

Kny human au pt. 1, the Kamaboko Squad.

•Nezuko: high support needs autistic, very clever, people underestimate her intuition, strenghtg, and capability. wears a (specifically green) mask for sensory reasons. She has lots of emitions, but can’t express them well. Gets angry, sad, exited, and overwhelmed easily.

•Tanjiro: Nezuko’s caretaker after their family fell ill to a rare deseise known as “the demon desiese” and couldn’t pay for hospital expences. He is working with several doctors to find a cure after Nezuko was diagnosed with the diseise. He is training to get into Koanain daigaku (the Core Nine University, a top-rate medical school).

•Inosuke: while he was unable to get a proper education due to the toxicity of foster care, he decided to team up with Tanjiro cause he was cool, and showed him human decency. (His mother was killed during precedure after falling ill while being illegally treated, though he was too young to remember)

•Zenitsu: he lived with his grandpa, a doctor, who taught him and another student. He was ridiculed for being stupid, whiney, jumpy and uncapable. People ofted told him he was too scatered to become a doctor. He joined Tanjiro because he wanted to help his late grandfather to rest in peace, for his own closure, and because Nezuko was just too cute to say no to.

•Kanao: She grew up in the slums, and was trafficked/fostered until Kanae and Shinobu fostered-and later adopted-her. Kanae, a surgeon (more on her later), had her-Kanao- watch her work and study. She was intrigued by the life of a sergeon. After meeting Inosuke, and after her sister/mother figure, Kanae, died, she swore to be a fair, just sergeon and to help Tanjiro on his journey to cure the “demon desiese”. She had studied by watching her sisters (mostly Kanae’s) work, and essays.

•Genya: Simmilar to Tanjiro, his family was taken by desiese. Sanemi had set out to become a doctor, not wanting his brother to be exposed to the highly contagious virus. Genta, ignoring his brother, studied to become a nurse; as he was unable to be a surgeon/fully titled doctor due to his essential tremor dissorder. He was exposed to daemonium nibh (scientific name, not a real virus), “the demon desiese“, and became immune, making him a highly valued asset. He helps Tanjiro due to his own ambitions, and the overwhelming senserity, and common want to rid the world of daemonium nibh.

Aoi: a nurse working as an intern at Koanain Daigaku. She was set to be a doctor, but gave up due to mental health, and self image issues. She wants to help Tanjiro as much as she can because she finds him warm and sunny, She doesn’t want him to give up. Despite him being older than her, she thinks of him as young and cute, but very responsible.

Average Demon Slayer fan when they see an autistic-coded character with anxiety reacting realistically to being in constant life-threatening danger.

The real reason Zenitsu gets hate is because he's autstic-coded, and not in a way palatable for allistics. So they go "well better dress my hatred up as 'reasonable' so I don't look ableist". (Spoiler alert: It's still transparently ableist).

Also to act as if Zenitsu hasn't developed at all before the final arc is ridiculous and willfully ignorant.
