Almost done with my yearly listening of TAZ Amnesty so here’s the mains w/ their special friends and weapons!!!
[Image description: digital art of the cast of TAZ Amnesty. The first image shows Duck, holding Beacon nervously. Minerva is in the background, smiling confidently. Duck is a fat, light-skinned man in a park ranger uniform. Minerva is a slender, dark-skinned woman, with a shaved and tattooed head.
Second is Ned, smiling and gesturing with the Narf Blaster slung over his shoulder. Boyd is in the background, grinning ominously. Ned is chubby with light skin and a gray beard, wearing a scarf and jacket. Boyd has light skin and short black hair, wearing a bandanna around his neck.
Last is Aubrey, smiling confidently and conjuring a small flame. Dr. Bonkers sits on her shoulder, and Dani is in the background, smiling gently. Aubrey has brown skin, a slender build, and red locks, wearing a denim vest with a rainbow pin. Dani has light skin, and blond hair in a braid. End ID.]

reading updates: september 2023
AHOY EVERYBODY!!! the end of the month has really crept up on me and lo, I have no finished as many books as I thought I would by this point! but so it goes.
also I'm fighting for my life trying to get through all of the library books I have checked out, which is a bummer because there are a bunch of creepy books I want to start reading for Spooky Month! but time is an illusion and I've already made my peace with Spooky Month extending into November, so whatever happens happens, babey! but that's the future, right now we need to talk about what I've been reading for the past month.
A View from the Bottom: Asian American Masculinity and Sexual Representation (Nguyen Tan Hoang, 2014) - Nguyen's dissertation is a really fascinating piece of queer scholarship, which gets deep (pun somewhat intended) into forms of media often overlooked by academia - gay porn, softcore art films, gay indie documentaries - in search of a new understanding of Asian masculinity and bottomhood. I really like Nguyen's thoughtful study of bottoming, effeminacy, and sexual abjection, all of which he's pretty in favor of, balanced with analyses of the factors of race, class, nationality, and citizenship that complicate how gay Asian men are perceived. it's wide-ranging, it's meticulous, it's kind of hot? I love you, queers in academia.
"You Just Need to Lose Weight" and 19 Other Myths About Fat People (Aubrey Gordon, 2023) - god, okay, listen: this book was a little dry TO ME but ONLY BECAUSE I have already spent years listening to Aubrey Gordon discuss all 19 of these myths and a bunch of other shit on her excellent podcast, Maintenance Phase. if you don't listen to Maintenance Phase either start doing that or read this book! which is extremely well-researched and great for debunking pretty much every "justification" a person might off to try and make their fatphobia sound reasonable. frankly if I could load up copies of YJNTLW into, like, a t-shirt gun to just have on standby to fire at people, I would do that.
Sorry, Bro (Taleen Voskuni, 2023) - yeah you all already know about this book, which is the one in which a 27 year old brings the narrative to a screeching halt to assure the readers that it's okay for her to hook up with a 31 year old woman because despite the so-called age gap both of their brains are fully-cooked. that's not actually the worst part of this book; the worst part is that the prose is unpolished in the extreme and the main character is kind of a dumb asshole. cannot say I recommend it, no matter how desperate you may be for bisexual Armenian representation.
Brown and Gay in LA: The Lives of Immigrant Sons (Anthony Christian Ocampo, 2022) - I really like the way Ocampo writes his nonfiction, which is very chatty and extremely accessible (if a little prone to editorializing). I love seeing sociologists writing from the community the community they live in, and these interviews come from second generation queer Latino and Filipino men frequenting the same LA clubs and coffee shops as the gay second gen Filipino author. it kills the presumed spectator that a lot of writing on marginalized communities can fall victim to; here, it's not that brown gay men need to be explained, but rather outsiders who need to make the effort to keep up with their lives. I especially appreciated Ocampo's highlighting the disparity between Latino and Filipino men's experiences in education, where very different sets of racial stereotypes impact their ability to succeed in white-dominated school systems; if you're curious about why Latino and Filipino men are categorized together at all in this study I strongly recommend Ocampo's other book, the Latinos of Asia.
The Vanishing Half (Brit Bennett, 2020) - it's always kind of astonishing when something that was extremely hyped-up and buzzy turns out to actually be as good as all that, and the Vanishing Half really was that good. the premise of two light-skinned Black twins separating so that one can "pass over" and live her life as a white woman is compelling all on its own, but Bennett is so committed to every possible angle of this premise: what does it mean to live more than one life? what other ways are people more than one person? it shows up everywhere through this novel: in losing your twin, in transing your gender, in drag performances, in actors, in people moving to new towns where no one knows them and becoming someone else. the moment it really hit me that Bennet Got It was a completely innocuous sentence that identified a Korean restaurant owner in California as a man who had attended medical school in Korea - even this background character, who we'll hardly hear from again, has been a different person in a different life! everyone has these layers and layers and different sides of themselves and it's just beautifully executed. mwah. chef's kiss.

MWW Artwork of the Day (11/17/24) Aubrey Beardsley (British, 1872-1898) Incipit Vita Nova: Here begins a new life (c. 1892-93) Pencil, pen & black ink & bodycolor on brown paper, 20.3 x 19.7 cm. Private Collection
The stylised depiction of the female figure in the present work is an overt reference to the Pre-Raphaelites and the particular notion of ideal beauty that was associated with this movement. However, Beardsley accentuates the facial characteristics of the woman to such an extent that whilst they still allude to this ideal they also border on the grotesque. This sentiment is continued in the scowling foetus figure, the embodiment of a new beginning, who points to the words 'Incipit Vita Nova'. The complex interplay of ideas associated with life, death and art are delivered emphatically by Beardsley's strong composition and restrained palette.

OMORI oneshot for Aubrey's birthday: Seeking A Balance
A oneshot for Aubrey's birthday, set a few months after the good ending. This also features @donuqx-art's OC Vix with her permission. I apologize if I get Vix wrong. I really tried....
Erika pulled her motorcycle up to the park, getting off and taking out a bag from the sidecar, before heading into the park and finding the Hooligans.
Artist and the Baker twins' respective little brothers Angel and Mikhael were kind enough to call and let Erika know of Aubrey's birthday, thinking that she'd be interested in knowing.
The woman told Artist, Bowen, and Daphne that she'd try and go over, thinking that it'd be beneficial to her and Aubrey if she visited.
Much to her surprise, it wasn't Angel or Mikhael that greeted her first, but rather, Kim...and another teenager that she didn't recognize.
The teenager was about Aubrey's height, had brown hair with pink highlights which was braided, with brown cargo pants, white crop top, and pink contacts.
"Mikhael and Angel invited me." Erika told Kim, who nodded. The other brunette said, "Angel said you might be coming over. Though I'm...kinda surprised you actually did."
The blue clad girl then looked off to the side, "Especially how she reacted towards your brother...."
Erika chose not to comment about that, merely sighing with a nod.
Kim then looked at the girl next to her, "Vix, this is Erika. Sunny and Mari's older sister. Erika, this is Vix."
The woman nodded, offering her hand out, "Nice to meet you.", before noticing the brunette's hesitation. She just chuckled, "Yes, I know. I'm very tall for my age."
"Um.... Yeah." Vix said, slowly taking Erika's hand as she shook off her stunned reaction to the woman's towering stature. "Nice to meet you too."
Kim went to get Aubrey, leaving Vix and Erika to talk alone.
"So...what do you do, exactly?" The brunette asked. "Aubrey and the others...don't talk about you much."
Erika nodded, assuming that her response to Aubrey's...less than respectful reaction towards the truth about Mari scared the pinkette.
"I'm a biker for BACA." The albino woman explained, peaking Vix's interest. "I also workout at the local gym and personally train a few customers."
"Ah.... That explains you looking like you could bench-press cars." The brunette commented, receiving a chuckle from Erika, who just nodded.
"So, you're a biker for Bikers Against Child Abuse...?" Vix asked, receiving a nod from the woman. The teenager lowered her head, before saying, "I...might have a situation regarding my parents...."
Erika nodded, "I'll chat about it with my group." She then sighed, "Swear to God, this town is fucking cursed. Bad parenting, child abuse, death, and abandonment...."
"Word...." Vix nodded with a groan. "From what it sounds like, you and your siblings have gone through that a lot...."
The woman nodded, rubbing her eyes, "Hate my parents. Probably the reason why things ended up the way they are."
"So glad I got Sunny away from that shit." She added, receiving a nod from the brunette. The teenager gave a sad expression, "I'm sorry you three had to go through all that...."
Erika shook her head, "Don't be.... We all go through our struggles. It's just a matter of making our voices clear to get the help we need."
Vix lowered her head, nodding.
Erika could only assume that she understood that on a personal level.
....
....
Eventually, Kim managed to drag Aubrey over before she left with Vix, leaving Aubrey and Erika to their own devices.
"So...you actually arrived." The pinkette said sheepishly, receiving a nod from Erika. The woman responded, "Figured it was in my best interest."
She then looked towards Angel and Mikhael in the near-distance, "After all, either of those two's siblings would likely convince me to go anyway."
"That or Sunny asking to go in his stead." Erika added.
Aubrey looked shocked, "E-Even after how I reacted, he wou-?" "Of course, Sunny would want to come. You know how loving he is." Erika said, cutting the teenager off mid-question.
She then narrowed her eyes, looming over Aubrey dangerously, "And believe me, I do NOT intend forgiving you for how you behaved around my little brother."
"That said, it is in my best interest to try and be civil, so please do the same. Get it?" She asked, receiving a small nod from the girl.
"...Got it. I...understand." The pinkette answered quietly. Erika nodded, "Good. Then we are in agreement.", before handing over a box.
"From Sunny, Mari, and I." The woman hummed, stepping back as Aubrey took the present and began opening it, revealing a large pink rabbit plush with a small eggplant plush inside.
"Sunny told me that you liked rabbits and eggplants. Something about Mr. Eggplant and Bun-Bun." The woman explained. "We didn't know which one to get you, so I just...purchased both."
Aubrey nodded warmly, "I appreciate it. Thank you. Both of you."
"I would appreciate it if you thanked Sunny in person." Erika said firmly. "And preferably before or around his birthday."
The pinkette gave another nod, not giving any sign of resistance or objection.
After how she reacted towards after he revealed the truth surrounding Mari's death.... After how she treated him in general....
The least she could do was meet the boy again in person and try to start fresh with him.
"You wanna stay for a bit? Angel's sister is here." She suggested.
Erika gave a small smile, "Just for a little bit. I gotta be back for dinner.", before following Aubrey to join the pinkette's friends.

🙌15 Questions For Friends 🙌
Tagged by my people: @michiganstray , @blackwolfstabs , and @osnapitzmel1
⬆️Gif and Photo made by FantasyLandBitch ⬆️
Are you named after someone?
No, my mom had the name Elizabeth picked out I think before or after I was born. However, if you are referring to my tumblr name then I made the name"FantasyLandBitch" up way after high school because I wasn't sure what to really call myself and for the life of me I don't remember the original name of my tumblr.
When was the last time you cried?
I cried last night while my sister and her wife were driving me and my little brother back to our parents house and I had cried while in the house.
Do you have kids?
Haha in this economy? No.
What sports do you play/have played?
Well growing up I didn't participate in team sports like wanting to go pro kind of sports because I had a lot of anxiety, was super shy, and insecure. However, I did like participating in flag football, volleyball, badminton, baseball, and sometimes floor hockey.
Do you use sarcasm?
I had to ask my brother "Hey Jon, have I ever used sarcasm?" and he said "no" so no. I think it's because I sort of wouldn't know how to do that but if I picked up that someone else was using sarcasm in a particular tone that lets me know that they're using sarcasm that's fine or like they're kidding is fine.
But if someone is using sarcasm in a rude way then I might be inclined to punch them really hard in the throat.
What is the first thing you notice about people?
I would say their vibes or their personality because I might be intimidated if I don't know the stranger or I might feel uncomfortable by their vibes. But if someone's vibes and personality seem friendly then it's safe for me to talk to them.
What is your eye color?
I think my eyes are dark brown.
Scary movies or happy endings?
DAMN okay so for this one it really depends because if it's a scary movie with a happy ending where a character lives after suffering the entire movie then I'm all for it right. The narrative needs to be well thought out and not half assed. But if it's like a scary movie where the narrative and characters makes sense, then be my guest kill everyone on the screen, however, if it's a movie like "The Descent" and there are no happy endings then I might get fucking angry.
Any talents?
Okay so for some reason this one was kind of hard for me to understand so I had to look up what you meant. But I would say writing, maybe storytelling, having a creative mind or possibly being creatively gifted.
{I would have to get help for this one and write a list.}
Where were you born?
In the USA but if you're talking about where I came out of the womb then that is confidential.
What are your hobbies?
Writing, Drawing in different mediums, sewing when I have to sew, playing video games, listening to music, sometimes singing, sometimes reading,
Do you have any pets?
I did...we had to put my 12 year old dog Aubrey down on March 2 due to liver cancer so it's been kind of hard for me since then. But I suppose I have unofficially adopted my friends pets, my sisters dog Starbuck, and am kind of happy just seeing animals in general.
💚 I still miss my best friend every day though. 💚
How tall are you?
I'm 5'3 and ready to beat someone's ass like a morally gray character.
Favorite subject in school?
Oooooooooooooooooh that's kind of a hard one, it's between History and Art.
Dream job?
When I figure it out then I'll come back to you.
I shall tag: @screechcat , @thisonewhocanbreathe , @schrodingerspsycho , @wandagcre
Feel free to try this out, tag your friends or close followers but also no pressure to make one!😊💚😘

Sunflower sure is neat, take some headcanons
They both absolutely love cats and talked about how they were gonna adopt one when they were kids. They did, he’s a brown gabby named Tofu.
Sunny is obliviously affectionate with touch and flustered by words and Basil is the opposite.
Basil is terrified of bugs despite being a gardener, he likes bees and butterflies but that’s it. He HATES ants with a passion.
Sunny doesn’t like working outside usually, but enjoys planting seeds and watering the flowers with Basil.
Sunny gets sunburns very easily while Basil gets freckles and a very light tan
Their favorite flowers to grow are sunflowers.
Their home is practically drowning with plants. The curtains are never closed during the day so that they can get all the sunlight they need.
They like to go on walks together when it’s cool out. Basil stops to pet every dog he sees.
Sunny really doesn’t like dogs but Basil just adores all animals.
Sunny loves art of every kind. He paints a lot, usually flowers and other still life. He writes poetry and is somehow always shy about showing his work to Basil. He’s obviously overwhelmingly supportive and showers all of it with praise.
They both hate pda with a passion and holding hands is the only exception. Mari teases them for being sappy as if she’s not shamelessly flirting with Hero half the time.
Basil is taller and stronger than Sunny, which he finds offensive.
Kel and Aubrey are both sports nerds and are always trying to get Basil and Sunny to play baseball/basketball. They will on occasion, and both absolutely suck.
Sunny is naturally thin but isn’t frail or weak. He’s still a twig compared to all his friends though since all his hobbies are calm and indoors.
Neither Sunny nor Basil like to go out on actual dates. They prefer to simply relax with each other, stay at home with their cats, and do whatever they want.
Basil is constantly taking pictures and has filled his photo album completely. He displays the rest of them on his wall with little fairy lights. He plans on getting a second album though since he worries that they’ll be damaged.
When Mari and Aubrey dyed their hair, Basil wanted to do it to. He was too nervous to go through with at the time but later on he dyed the tips of his hair light green.
Sunny loves that Basil wears a flower in his hair and is the one who picks them. Basil always wear Sunny’s flowers until they wilt.
Sunny loves horror movies and Basil can handle them but they aren’t his favorite. He doesn’t like them mostly because they’re unrealistic and too similar. On movie nights with the gang he just uses them as an excuse to cling to Sunny and fall asleep.
Sunny is an artist and is fascinated my hands. He likes to play with Basils hands and use them for reference. He finds it interesting how different their hands are and also compares his hands to the rest of his friends.

𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐏𝐇𝐘
the parris family is a lineage who built there wealth for generations via the construction and investment of real estate in the caribbean. his birth was absolutely not planned seeing as he was conceived during a marital rough patch between his mother and assumed father. it was actually the sea god olokun shapeshifted into her husband after he had become captivated by her beauty. so arion was born as the fifth and youngest child in the parris family. his parents didn't put as tight expectations and restrictions of him as they had his four older siblings, which honestly allowed him to slide with stuff none of them could. except the incident at eleven years old where he'd brought a live octopus that he caught into a dinner banquet that his mother was hosting. he was never allowed to forget. it begged to question why he even did so in the first place. he always had a fascination and pull towards the ocean. when arion wasn't attending obligated events, entertaining on behalf of his mother's request to share that lovely voice of his with guests and in the church choir. he was almost always at the beach or in the sea. it all sort of made sense when his status as a demi-god of the sea was revealed. also awkward since he was raised in a christian household who outright refused the notion of other pantheons. while he loved his family for who they were to him all the years he grew up with him, their mild disdain in how they treated him after the reveal of his sexuality when he was caught making out with the son of his mother's business partner. then when the wars among the pantheons started to increase in tension, olokun arrived to collect arion. the parris family learning of their youngest's true nature was heartbreaking so to say. they viewed him as if he was some sort of demon because their deeply rooted christian beliefs that left little room for anything spiritual that didn't involve the trinity of the father, son & holy ghost. so with a broken heart, he was whisked away to embrace his demigod heritage. in his new home amongst others similar to him where he could finally belong. with the rejection from his old family, he started to form a new one.
